social scene. We are certainly zooming through the year like a rally car, that’s for sure ! Yes! That’s coming up really soon ... exciting times, with hordes of visitors arriving here on the Coffs Coast to enjoy the excitement of it all. I remember covering the first one for FOCUS; it was staged up at the airport, and I was totally blown away by it all! My husband has been part of it since the word go … and looks forward to being a Head Official every year. Lots of hours and many volunteers go into streamlining this amazing event. Bring on the dust!
T
alking along the lines of racing, we have just had the Coffs Harbour Racing Carnival occur recently. It was kick started with Sawtell RSL Sawtell Cup, followed by the ever popular Carlton Draught Coffs Cup and completed with the brand new Bonville Golf Resort Bonville Cup. Visitors and locals streamed in to enjoy the races and the fortunately fabulous sunny weather we were awarded with. Whether you like to bet, love dressing up or just want to enjoy it with the family, there was something for everyone. The FOCUS Team hung out at the Lawn Party at the Carlton Draught Gold Cup and had an amazing time. My business, Le Dãin Designs at Sawtell, was proud to be the Major Fashions on the Field sponsor for the Sawtell RSL and the Bonville Cup, with Jack Simmons Menswear being the supporting sponsor. Park Beach Plaza was the Major Fashions on the Field sponsor for the Carlton Draught Golf Cup and did an amazing job as usual. We can look forward to the Coffs Harbour Summer Carnival, which starts in November with our Melbourne Cup Race Day. There is always something different to enjoy here on the Coffs Coast. All kinds of festivals are on their way, including the OceanHarvest Festival, which will be held down at the picturesque Jetty at Coffs Harbour. This is a family

friendly event, with no entry cost. It will definitely be a celebration of seafood! There will be food stalls, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, and the event will be fully licensed. If the weather keep up with the way it has been, we are out for another fantastic food festival! FOCUS attended the Bald Archy, which always draws the crowds to the Bunker Cartoon Bunker in Coffs Harbour. The Bald Archy is now in its 25th year! This event showcases so many of Australia’s best known artists. One of the artists we got to meet and greet was Steve Panozzo, who gave us some information on how the Bald Archy Competition started. One of Steve Panozzo’s pieces of art is called Kitty Litter, which is a fine example of the cheeky artwork that was showcased ... Just another fantastic event staged at the Cartoon Bunker Gallery. FOCUS are one of the major sponsors for the Business Women’s Network, and we attended one of their networking luncheons just recently. The event was held at the Coffs Harbour Surf Club. The view from this venue is out of this world! You could be anywhere when you gaze out over the ocean. The food is always amazing here, so we knew what to expect ... Yum! The guest speaker for the BWN luncheon was Anna McAfee, and she discussed personal
branding. Anna’s goal is to help individuals and businesses to build better and more authentic connections in our fast digital world. This lady was recently recognised as the Sunny Business Awards Outstanding Business Leader, having founded the #linkedinlocal movement in Coffs Harbour, and a concept that has been copied in 90 countries around the globe, helping people to build genuine relationships and communities offline. Guests enjoyed a delicious two-course lunch with great company and an uplifting talk. It has been a busy month for FOCUS. We held our Men in Business event at the Plantation Hotel. The major players featured on our last front cover were there, along with many more business owners and their employees. Front cover guys were Ryan Moran from Rod Moran Automotive, Michael Lockman from the Big Banana, Tony Jones from the Plantation Hotel, Brent Culkin from the Coast Hotel and Reed Clayton from JZ Concrete. The hotel served the guests with an array of delicious dishes and the event was buzzing, as it always is. Being a Friday night, it always has people in a great mood ready for the weekend! Great times! Here is to living the dream on the Coffs Coast! Carole Beros, Le Dãin Designs.
