Dear readers,
It is with great pleasure that I share the experiences I had during my three-month stay in the incredible Northeast of Brazil. The adventure began at Praia do Preá, in Ceará, where I embarked on an exciting downwind to Atins, in Maranhão. This journey took me through stunning scenery, such as the Parnaíba Delta, Barra Grande, Praia do Arpoador and, finally, Atins, where I was lucky enough to be welcomed by my friend Leo -”Zé Bigó”, a true kite-surfing enthusiast.
Throughout these pages, I share the emotions of the Kite Tour Experience that I had. In the next editions, we will explore the unique experiences lived by the magazine's staff in inns and hotels, adding value to the Kite Tour Experience concept.
The Parnaíba Delta was an oasis of tranquility, where navigation along the rivers revealed hidden streams and breathtaking landscapes. I saw monkeys and vibrant maned birds flying to their nocturnal islands, under the majestic Full Moon and an un-forgettable sunset.
At Praia do Arpoador, alongside Argentinean Nicolas, owner of Pousada Amor do Arpoador, we enjoyed intense Kite Wave ses-sions at 6:30 in the morning, with strong winds and the size of the beach with just the two of us. The presence of Marcílio and Renato from São Paulo, together with the presence of friends Luiz Hass and Pedro Lage, contributed to a day with many epic Kite Wave moments.
I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who crossed my path during these three months in the Northeast. The challenges faced, the overcomes experienced and the moments of flow re-sulted in this edition, full of learning and emotion. Gratitude for being part of this unique journey.

Involvement with the local community reaches its peak at Guest House Amor do Arpoador, where the attention of Nico, the Argentinian owner of the Pousada, mixes with the fascination of Praia do Arpoador. This stopping point became an inspiring setting for the Kite Tour Experience Project.
Alex Mello, editor of this publication, stayed there for 4 days at Pousada Amor do Arpoador and Nico, presented some of the Experiences you can have, like surfing at 6:30am with winds aligned to the right, with three feet waves, in these 2 days he went surfing and I photographed the Kite Wave.
In the afternoon, there were 30 Kites in the very large lagoon that shows up in front of the Hotel in addition to parts of flats (smooth sea) in front of Islands / San-dbanks up to 2 km from the coast...a unique place!
Watching the sunset, from the dunes that are also called Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses, is another incredible moment when you are there.
The winds blow day and night, the place has a large size a long beach and lagoon area that makes us feel the freedom of being there!

Nico: – I loved it, I discovered Paradise at Praia da Pipa, in Rio Grande do Norte, but I only surfed, and that was when I discovered Kitesurf and saw Kitesurf alive, on a beach called Praia do Amor, too because I always surfed there, where bestwaves in Pipa are I fell in love with it! Look at this sport, catching waves with a Kite. Incredible! And then I had the opportunity to travel to Ceará, and open my first restaurant, on Guajiru Island and I spent 3 seasons working there, on Guajiru Island. After that I moved to Peru, in Pacasmayo a wave spot good to envolvein Kitesurfinginwaves,KiteWave, ItrainedinPacasmayofor2years, untilIreturnedtoBrazil,in2019ayearlater,I methereArpoadorandArpoadoristhecoolest peakintheNortheastofBrazil! WhenIgothere, aftervisitingalltheotherspots,Iunderstood thatthiswastheplaceIwaslookingfortobuild myhouseandtostartabusinessthatwouldbe my living. My Kite school, my restaurant and, now, I also have chalets for rent.
So we are welcoming families, friends, the Kite community and we are trying to put Praia do Arpoador at the place it deserves, world's Top Kitesurfing Spots!
Alex: – Show! Cool! And how many rooms do you have here, how does your Inn work?
Nico: - My Pousada is Amor do Arpoador, which is located here in Praia do Amor, do Arpoador, in the city of Tutóia, in Maranhão. There is a giant lagoon in front of us, with a perfect wind, that starts at 6:00 in the morning, strong...
Alex: - At 6:00 in the morning there's the surfing part, right!
Nico: "Yes, the Surfing section is for those who enjoy riding the waves more, and in the morning, the wind is already strong enough to engage in any type of watersport!HereatthePousada, we offer 6 Chalets for rent, 6 bungalows, some with swimming pools and whirlpools... the concept revolves around rusticity and comfort. We cater to Kitesurfing enthusiasts and adventurers interested in Ecotourism, exploring the Parnaíba Delta and the rivers, going on expeditions... There are plenty of options for hikers, ATV enthusiasts, horseback riding, and other water sports besides Kitesurfing.
Alex: "That's fantastic, congratulations. What are your plans for the next season? Are you considering expanding the chalets or focusing on promoting Arpoadorglobally?"
Nico: "Firstly, I want to increase the promotion of Arpoador, to attract more Pro Riders and the Kite Community, organizing Kite Tripssotheycantrulyexperience the place and its potential - the natural beauty and ideal sailing conditions. This is undoubtedly the most remarkable aspect of Praia do Arpoador... We have winds nearly 24 hours a day, and a vast water area for beginners, intermediate, and advanced riders alike, whether they're interested in Freestyle or Big Air. So, we offer an excellent environmentforprogression."
Alex: "You also do Kite Fest, the Kite Festival. What time of year do you do this event and what is this Festival like, is it already in its 3rd or 4th edition?
Nico: "The Arpoador Kite Fest we held the 2nd edition this past November and it is a Festival and Championship that we do in 2 days, with a Kite Wave Championship on Saturday and a Regatta, the Tutóia Race, from the city to the Arpoador, it's a 12 km Regatta at full speed and on Sunday we do the Big Air Championship, more focusedonthenatives."
We are training and giving opportunities to many of the natives to learn how to sail and now we have around 20 to 25 boys who are already sailing, doing maneuvers and are already doing well. We want to encourage them through a championship, through a Festival and that's it, get the Kite guys together, motivate them and put Arpoador Kite Fest on the Kitesurfing Events Calendar in the Northeast! Three athletes arrived from Barra Grande, Piauí: Pantera Negra, Adriano and PH. The boys, the crowd showed up and it was more of a family event, a community event here in Arpoador and I really enjoyed it, I really enjoyed the second edition of this championship.
The ultimate destination for Kitesurf lovers!
Enjoy the unique combination of ideal winds, incredible waves and charming accommodations. At Praia do Arpoador, Kitesurfing reaches new heights. In the early evening, I disembarked in Atins, a jewel at the beginning of Lençóis Maranhenses, still unsure about my stay. Without a defined destination, I headed to the Inn where the Downwind riders, who I was following, would stay. It was there that an insight occurred to me: Zé Bigó, a rider I had photographed in Floripa, was, in fact, Leonardo, a resident of Atins. I quickly got in touch and, in a matter of minutes, I was settled in his home, immersing myself in the local charms for incredible 10 days. The atmosphere in a local rider's home proved to be the definitive way to explore the region through the eyes of those who call Atins home. Vila Guará, our base, houses the Inn, a Restaurant and Kite Riders, the Kite School led by the charismatic Tiago Muniz, who kindly agreed to share his story in this edition.
The days in Vila Guará were full of extraordinary moments, capturing photos and videos of sailors dominating Freestyle and Big Air. The stunning scenery was just the backdrop. An experience that reached its peak when following the Downwind with Luana from Yeshua, also interviewed in this edition, reaching Lençóis Maranhenses, in Lagoa da Lua. Being there, in the "Mar de Dunas", at sunset, with friends, emanated a powerful and intense energy
As for gastronomy, I was honored with the hospitality of restaurants such as Casa De Juja, Vila Guará and Sr. Antônio, whose restaurant offers a unique experience, rooted in local tradition. Each encounter was more than a meal; it was a dive into local culture and a sincere exchange of stories.
My departure from Atins was marked by the impeccable service of the Levada team. From Zé Bigó's house to Porto de Atins, I boarded the Voadora to Caburé, where I was received by Mr. Antonio and Dayana. A journey that took me from the tranquility of the dunes of Maranhão to Pousada Amor do Apoador, in Tutóia and then to the lively Praia do Preá, in Ceará. In short, Atins is a profound experience. An immersion in natural beauty, local culture and the camaraderie of kite lovers.
With every breeze that blows through the dunes, Atins whispers a unique story, ready to be discovered by all adventurers in search of something extraordinary. Whether sailing in Lençóis or enjoying the local cuisine, Atins reveals itself as one of those destinations that leave an impression on the soul and remain in memory. This is the Northeast of Brazil; This is life with Kitesurfing in Atins.
In an exclusive conversation with Alex Mello, Editor and Photographer of the online magazine FLORIPAKITE LIFESTYLE, André Penna, pioneer of Downwind Kitesurfing in Brazil, shared the details of hisincrediblejourneysince2010.
André was inspired by Louis Tapper, from New Zealand, who set the world record by crossing Kitesurfing Downwind from Salvador, State of Bahia to São Luís, State of Maranhão.
Driven by this inspiration, André began his own adventures in 2011, traveling the route from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara, State of Ceará. His meeting with Louis Tapper in Jericoacoara opened the doors to explore the Parnaíba Delta, State of Piauí to SãoLuís, State of Maranhão
André's passion for kitesurfing led him to become a guide for Surfin Sem Fim, participating in expeditions in Africa and the Philippines for OFF Channel His nomadic life in 2017-2018 turned into a residence in Atins from 2020 onwards,whereheassu-medthe role of Captain of Surfin Sem Fim.
André highlights the intensityofhiswork, fromtravelorganization to interaction with customers and logistics management. It emphasizes the transformation of kitesurfing into a more comprehensive activity, including the production of events, in addition to the physical and mental aspects of the sport.
In the last part of the interview, André explores special places for kitesurfing, such as the Parnaíba Delta and the region between Parnaíba and Atins. He highlights the potential of foil kiting over long distances and shares experiences along the northeastern coast, including Rio Grande do Norte and Travosa. For him, Lençóis Maranhenses represents the "Last Frontier" for kitesurfers.
André describes a remote and difficult to access location, where explorers need to carry sleeping equipment. Opting for a hammock, especially made of straw, instead of tents due to the heat, he highlights the practicality of this choice.
He shares a remarkable experience during a kitesurfing session, where a large wave caught him by surprise, tearing his equipment in half and leaving him adrift. Using the kite as a buoy, he braved the darkness and current for hours before returning to the beach. The importance of self-control in challenging situations is highlighted, linking this skill to his experience in extreme sports such as rock climbing.
What should you carry in a waterproof backpack to go Downwind with calculated “Risk Management”?
André made a video talking about the items he takes on a crossing.
Thinking about safety is essential to avoid or mitigate situations that may occur!
It’s always good to know what more experienced professionals carry in their backpacks!
André reveals his background in mountain expeditions and canoeing, influences that led him to kitesurfing, especially when discovering the potential of long distances in northeastern Brazil. His self-control skills and experience in extreme sports emerge as key factors in his kitesurfing activities.
The interview offers a fascinating insight into the life and achievements of André Penna, a true explorer of the seas and winds of Brazil.
This is just the beginning of a story that continues to unfold across the vast ocean and beyond.

I was born into a very sporting family, my parents were windsurfing champions and my father was one of the first to start kitesurfing in Spain, when I was 2 years old in 1997!
Leaving my Comfort Zone and believing in my dreams and my passion… it was difficult the whole way and I had to enjoy every moment…
…This part of Brazil, in Ceará, is the best place in the world… I came for the first time, 10 years ago… I loved my first time… I went “crazy about Ceará and the winds here”… and every year , I'm coming back...and I've thought many times: - Is there another place in the world that has these conditions and such...but there isn't...many kilometers of beaches, the wind only increases, when you go further north the conditions they get stronger, the wind gets stronger and there are the lagoons… the sea with high tide and dry tide… conditions and a lot of variety to train Free Style Kitesurf, in which I compete…

Almost 12 years ago, Luana began her incredible journey in kitesurfing, transitioning from skydiving to Kite while living in Fortaleza.
The learning began in 2013, in the stunning Lagoa do Cauípe, and since then, kitesurfing has not only been a passion for Luana, but has also become her profession.
Living in Atins for seven years, she is especially dedicated to downwind.
ForLuana, kitesurfingtranscends the definition of sport, truly being a lifestyle that provides a deep connection with nature and a spiritual approach.
Specializing in downwind, Luana welcomes enthusiasts from all over the world in Atins, providing exciting expe-riences in the lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses.
Regarding downwinds, Luana offers several options, with the 23 km route being the most traditional. After the adventure, the equipment is transported back to Atins by car. She also organizes tours during the full moon, combining kitesurfing at sunset with a get-together at Restaurante Sr. Antônio, involving a bonfire, DJ, delicious food and drinks, and the vibrant energy of the participating community.
Luana not only makes the search for accommodation in Atins easier for kitesurfers, but also highlights the stunning local beauty, inviting everyone to explore the paradise that is Atins.
With a predominantly foreign audience, 70% of which are European clients, Luana recently founded her own company, Yeshua Downwind, specializing in downwinds in Lençóis Maranhenses. Expressing her gratitude to God for her kitesurfing journey, Luana emphasizes the importance of respect for nature, a fundamental value that the sport teaches. The interview concludes with Luana's warm invitation for everyone to explore the paradise in Atins, an irresistible invitation for kitesurfing and nature lovers.

Anyone who has had the opportunity to follow a Downwind, whether as an athlete or enthusiast, understands the grandeur and challenges that this unique experience provides. In the Brazilian Northeast, where the stunning beaches serve as a stage for Kitesurf lovers, Transfers play a crucial role in ensuring the success of these journeys.
When following the Downwinds, I was able to see the evolution of the athletes facing the “challenges of the day” with the waves, winds and distances, and also the dedication and expertise of the Transfer drivers. These professionals, often not recognized to the same extent, play a vital role in bringing and bringing kitesurfers and providing support on land at the different beaches where the Downwinds pass!
Transfer is not just a means of transport; It is strategic support that travels side by side with the Downwind team, whether on the beach, trails or roads. With a 4X4 pick-up carrying, in addition to the athletes, their luggage, extra kites, coolers with drinks and fruit essential for quick stops, these vehicles become true mobile outposts.
The presence of a photographer and filmmaker on board elevates the experience, capturing incredible moments as riders glide through the sea. Whether through the stunning landscapes or the unforeseen challenges, each image tells a part of the unique story of each Downwind.
When crossing the Parnaíba Delta, a place of singular beauty, a region, punctuated by rivers and breathtaking landscapes that requires the versatility and reliability of Transfers when dealing with the unique challenges in these areas, whether on rivers, trails and roads.
In addition to transportation, Transfers offer security and support throughout the journey. Driven by experienced drivers who know the intricate coastal routes, these professionals become essential in situations such as the need to remove a tired athlete or deal with unforeseen events, such as a deflating kite.

In my own experiences, I highlight the collaboration with exemplary professionals such as Junior, Cristiano, and the Levada Turismo team.
From Preá to Atins, these partners not only made my journey easier, but also provided a privileged view of the distances covered by water by the fearless kitesurfers.
In short, Transfers are not just vehicles; they are accomplices in the adventure, facilitating not only the logistics, but also the creation of lasting memories. And so, the saga continues, where the sea meets the land and Transfers become the indispensable link in this exciting Kitesurfing spectacle in the Brazilian Northeast.

Discover what lies beyond the horizon with Levada Turismo.
What led you to choose Atins as the location to establish Atins Kite Delas and its Kite School?
It wasn't me who chose the place, the place chose me. When I arrived in Atins, I still didn't know about Kitesurfing, the place was a gateway for me to access the sport, and I ended up falling in love, Kite Delas couldn't be anywhere else but in Atins!
I had an important inspiration, Maria do Boi, who encouraged me to be an instructor, if it weren't for her my arrival would have been a little more difficult, as it was she who looked at me and said: “you need to be an instructor”. Some time later, I met Ruanna - who is now my partner - and helped found Kite Delas, kickstarting what was, until then, an idea.
Can you tell us a little about the social movement you lead to promote kitesurfing among women, Atins Kite Delas?
Kite Delas came about in a very natural way, out of a need not only mine but also that of all women who would like to occupy a space in the sport that, in Atins, was predominantly male. When I started kitesurfing it was impossible to ignore the absence of women in the water, as I was the only instructor of my generation, I embraced the idea of bringing the feminine, and showing that we are capable! I used my voice a lot to expose this reality. When I started as an instructor I gave classes exclusively to women and this made the desire to follow this path grow even more, this became my purpose in Kitesurfing, it was inevitable to be a reference, to occupy this leadership role which, at first, was not intentional.
What are the main challenges women face when entering the world of kitesurfing, and how does Kite Delas address these challenges?
Well, the challenge is structural. The world we live in naturally poses obstacles for women and this ends up being seen in sport. I don't believe that women have limitations when it comes to learning, when it comes to developing skills and becoming enthusiasts, but unfortunately this belief is ingrained in society and affects us in general. The challenge is to really occupy our place and be seen as authorities, references, athletes, competitors at a level. Not surprisingly, I have been through situations, as an instructor, that confirmed the segregation that women suffer, but it didn't affect me and I dealt with it in the best way possible. That's why I want to continue contributing to a safe and welco ming space so that other women don't have to go through this and increasingly break limiting sexist beliefs.
How can kitesurfing positively impact women's lives, both physically and emotionally, in your opinion?
Kitesurfing is a sport that helps both our mind and our physique, our self-esteem increases, and especially our freedom! Bringing it to the feminine side, I would say it is empowering. The feeling of being in that position - as an athletedoing something different and challenging moves us. With human beings in general, but for women the word is “empowerment”.
Can you share an inspiring story of an Atins Kite Delas student who stood out or overcame challenges in learning to kitesurf?
I find all the stories inspiring, each one has a story, a different trajectory, all with their own difficulties and motivations... But one student who inspired me was Helena (Lele). She is a “very young” woman of 7 years old and had a dream; a great desire to learn. We connected a lot and built a friendship. She developed her skills very well and, after Kite Delas, she continued classes and I believe she will take Kitesurfing for life. We keep in touch and she continues to update me about her passion for the sport. Inevitably there is a belief that age is a barrier, so the stories of young or old students inspire me a lot, although it doesn't surprise me since I see all the people who come to me, with the desire to learn, as kitesurfers potential and we always seek to develop skills.
How have you noticed the increase in the number of women practicing kitesurfing over the years and how important is this growth for you?
I am very happy that women are occupying this space, the number of women in the water and teaching nowadays is visibly greater, that is why I give priority to them, whether as students, instructors on the team, children that I voluntarily teach and future instructors I train. The goal is to see these numbers grow even further.
In addition to teaching kitesurfing, what other activities or programs does Kite Delas offer to promote community and women's participation?
So far, Kite Delas is entirely focused on kitesurfing. We first want to consolidate ourselves and then expand into other areas
What is your vision for the future of Atins Kite Delas and how do you hope to continue to positively impact women's participation in kitesurfing?
We want to expand to other states with Kitetrips, different experiences such as Kitefests that promote experiences aimed at women, workshops and, of course, we want to take the kitedelas brand to other parts of Brazil. Social projects are also our focus. Teaching Kitesurfing to girls, helping to create new athletes, awakening young people's passion for the sport... it is certainly something that is in the plans and will be the natural consequence of everything we do; We really want to leave this mark on the world.
Create affectionate memories with the best of Maranhão’s gastronomy.

In the heart of Atins, a promising name emerges in the world of kitesurfing: Luizinho Inácio, a talented rider aged just 13. In an exclusive interview with FLORIPAKITE LIFESTYLE Magazine, the young man shared his inspiring kitesurfing journey, revealing a passion that blossomed amidst the stunning landscapes of his hometown.
Luizinho began his kitesurfing journey approximately a year ago, driven by the enthusiasm of his brother, Izaílson. The latter, who already worked at the old Kite Riders school, opened Nossa Vibe, a school that would become the starting point for Luizinho's rise in the sport. Despite living in Barreirinhas, Luizinho returned to Atins to learn the secrets of kitesurfing under the guidance of his brother.
Born in Atins, Luizinho quickly found himself involved in the magic of kitesurfing. In his narrative, he enthusiastically describes the ease with which he threw himself into daily practice, evolving and mastering various maneuvers over time.

However, he does not hide the challenges he faces on his journey, as Atins does not offer wind every day. Each new dawn brings with it new challenges, from variations in the wind to the nuances of the tide and waves.
Currently in the eighth year of elementary school, Luizinho reveals his dream of traveling to Ceará, where he hopes to not only meet professional athletes, but also experience the unique kitesurfing conditions of that region. His eyes shine with the hope of one day becoming a world champion, an ambitious goal for someone so young, but one that reflects the determination and passion that drives his journey.
At the end of the interview, Luizinho sends a warm message, inviting everyone to discover the wonders of Atins. He highlights the exceptional conditions for kitesurfing, especially between August and September, a period in which the magic of the sport and exuberant nature meet in Lençóis Maranhenses. He ends the conversation by encouraging others to embrace the kitesurfing lifestyle and pursue their own dreams of becoming champions.
Luizinho Inácio, with his vibrant youth and unwavering determination, is undoubtedly paving the way to become a rising star in the kitesurfing universe. His inspiring story resonates not only with sports lovers, but with all those who believe in the power of dreams and the tireless pursuit of excellence. Atins, with its new jewel, stands out as an epicenter of kitesurfing, promising an exciting saga on the horizon.

In the incredible setting of Atins, I spoke with Tiago Muniz, a passionate kitesurfing instructor from Kite Riders Vila Guará Kite School. Muniz, local to Maranhão, shared his story from childhood until moving to Atins, where he settled three years ago.
Starting his journey in 2014, Tiago Muniz learned kitesurfing in Jericoacoara, later obtaining his certification in Cumbuco.
Over the years, he has traveled to various destinations, including Colombia, Cartagena, San Andrés, Arubinha, Rio de Janeiro and Floripa, expanding his knowledge and skills.
Asked about his preferences in kitesurfing, Muniz revealed that he likes everything, from waves to strong winds, exploring disciplines such as kite wave and wing foil. In addition to classes, the school offers custodial services and has a complete structure with a restaurant in a seaside inn.
Highlighting Atins as a privileged place for sailing, Muniz mentioned the proximity to Lençóis Maranhenses, a true jewel in the region. He emphasized the diversity of students, attracting people from all over the world, especially Europeans during the August holidays.
As for future plans, Tiago Muniz expressed the desire to consolidate the school as a reference and continue exploring new destinations. He invited readers to discover Atins, a magical place with constant winds, calm waters and the incredible landscape of Lençóis Maranhenses.

In the last edition we brought here a little about the concept of the flow state and how this phenomenon is characterized. We continue with the invitation in this reading to reflect, based on academic evidence, on how the flow state develops.
The flow state is an intrinsically engaging state, with harmony between the challenges of the task, the athlete's ability to perform it and the satisfaction of performing it (Csikszentmihályi & Nakamura, 2001). A Rider has the ability to sail, accepting the Challenges of the moment such as: Wind Speed, Sea Current, Waves, Equipment Used and can enter the State of Flow, due to his intrinsic motivation and satisfaction in sailing. It is a fusion between mind, body, nature and technique. You have tried?
Well, but how can we achieve more experiences of this flow state?
Interestingly, this state is increasingly being investigated. In a study carried out by researchers at Yale University (USA) (Melnikoff, Carlson, & Stillman, 2022) using artificial intelligence, it suggests that human beings know they benefit from being immersed in an activity. In itself, this is intrinsic motivation. However, techniques and personal interest are necessary. According to the authors, to facilitate reaching the flow state, it is important to clearly understand the environment and the steps with the greatest amount of information to achieve more flow during execution. In other words, it is important to clearly know the
task processes, the technique, and then keep in mind how to proceed. In this case, it can be suggested to understand the technique step by step, watch other people's videos and your own video or photos, have qualified technical guidance and orient yourself in the action. It's technical and mental work.
According to Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Csikszentmihalyi, 1978), to increase the experience of flow, challenges must be observed as opportunities for action in a situation that requires skill. So, I invite you to talk to yourself: in this training today, what is my opportunity? Focus on opportunities. When challenges and skills are low, you will likely experience apathy, and when skills are greater than necessary for the challenge you may experience boredom/relaxation or disinterest. When the challenge is greater than the skills, you may experience anxiety. It's a very fine line to find harmony between skills and challenges and feel flow. The basis of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's model is that the state of flow is accessed when skills and challenges are elevated and in harmony to result in a quality experience. This can happen in moments, in a specific maneuver, or even throughout the sailing. But flow also does not occur in any training or in any physical activity. It requires the perfect combination of skills, abilities and challenge. That's why it's essential to focus on technique, mentalization of
action, and talk to yourself about the opportunities you have in each challenge, to generate intrinsic motivation for the task.
In physiological terms, the flow state involves a unique brain state. As flow requires challenge, this phenomenon involves a certain level of acute, short-term stress (good), which presupposes physiological protection and alertness to deal with the situation. A certain level of psychophysiological activation is important for quick decision making. However, it is not a type of chronic and prolonged stress capable of generating anxiety and mental blocks that reverberate in the technique.
In the brain, there is a reduction in activity in the prefrontal cortex in relation to tasks that do not require mental effort and become implicit (automatic). The flow state occurs in the transition of cognitive control from an explicit process (requiring more controlled attentional resources, more attentional effort) to an implicit process (more automatic, with more predictability and less attentional effort). Therefore, it is as if flow were a state of “greater efficiency” compared to “automatic habit”. It's not simply doing your maneuver in an automatic habit to experience flow, but rather, it's doing your maneuver automatically with awareness and fusion, challenge and motivation.
For the rider who wants to be efficient in maneuvers, reflecting on the development of the flow state is essential.
During flow there are also peaks of activity in areas associated with reward and the discharge of neurotransmitters that are related to pleasure, such as dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine and endorphins. Therefore, flow positively impacts the feeling of well-being and happiness. The benefits of flow in sport can impact the chronic pain system, reducing pain processes, improving positive mood, increasing the feeling of fusion with the whole, and increasing the feeling of pleasure. Do you want more than that? Kiting, without a doubt, is a sport that can facilitate this flow experience. It can provide moments of happiness and connection with yourself, nature and other people.
According to another study (Huskey et al., 2021), the state of flow brings benefits to psychological and brain health, with increased resilience, decreased depressive symptoms, prevention of burnout and decreased stress and anxiety. According to this study, in the brain, the flow state does not occur in just one region, but results from network interactions between multiple regions of the brain. When multiple regions of the brain are connected to each other but sparsely connected to other regions, this is called a “modular” network configuration. During complex tasks, this modular configuration often reconfigures itself by connecting different regions of the brain into a new modular organization. This reconfiguration is called “flexibility” and can influence people to respond adaptively to complex tasks. This may explain why flow is perceived as high control and effortless, even when the difficulty of the task is high, it is literally a fluid task.

For the rider who wants to be effi cient in maneuvers, reflecting on the development of the flow state is essen tial. And for all sailors, from beginners to advanced, it is possible to try to have the experience of flow, whether this expe rience is only for a few moments or for a prolonged period. Especially because the state of flow can make you feel happy, which is what matters: sailing and a smile on your face. Bóra to the wind and be happy!
The BRASILKITE PROJECT was created to go beyond Floripa with our publications, and we launched this Project producing the edition FLORIPAKITE CEARÁ and now the NORDESTE with the states Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão, and then we will publish the edition from Floripa to Rio Grande do Sul where we concluded the first year of our editions and we are happy with the re sults we achieved.
