EDITOR'S NOTE

As the Editor and Creative Director of our beloved fashion magazine, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week 2023. This is an event that has become a true embodiment of the spirit of South Florida, showcasing the unique culture and art that has risen to prominence in our community in recent years. For nine years now, Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week has grown and evolved, attracting an ever-increasing community of innovators and movers who are shaking up the industry and pushing it to reflect our own unique perspectives and tastes This is a show that is truly about us, the people of South Florida, and what we want to see in the world of fashion.

At the heart of this event is a deep commitment to the values that define our community. We are a place that celebrates diversity and creativity, and we embrace the bold and the new This is reflected in the incredible designs and styles that will be on display at Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week 2023 Our magazine has always sought to capture the essence of this spirit, to showcase the stories and the people that make South Florida such a special place And there is no better embodiment of that spirit than Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week. This is a show that brings together designers and artists from across the region, and indeed from around the world, to create something truly unique and special. As we approach the 2023 event, I am filled with excitement and anticipation I cannot wait to see what this year's designers will bring to the table, and to witness the incredible creativity and innovation that always comes to the forefront at Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week

But more than that, I am proud to be a part of a community that is helping to shape the future of fashion. We are showing the world that there is more to this industry than just what is dictated by the traditional power players We are proving that real change can happen, and that it can be driven by the people who are most passionate about fashion.

So to all of the designers, artists, and fashion lovers out there: let's come together once again for Fort Lauderdale Fashion Week 2023, and continue to push the boundaries of what this industry can be. Let's show the world what South Florida is all about, and let's continue to celebrate the incredible creativity and culture that define our community

Thank you again to our amazing CORE 4 team, Ariana, Maci, myself and most importantly Florentina for giving us this platform to shine and grind with you leading the way. Let’s have an amazing show and remember,:"Fashion is a reflection of who we are, who we aspire to be, and the world we want to create."

Cheers,

Love&DESIGN

with Ray and Eilyn Jimenez

DIRECTED BY BRITTANY MITZAN MOURA PHOTOGRAPHY BY WELLINGTON GRUZMAN HAIR & MAKEUP BY CELESTE COHEN STYLED BY LUIIE OSTERO BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE BY SANTIAGO PINEDA

Eilyn Jimenez and Ray Jimenez are two interior designers based in Miami who have each achieved great success in their own right. What makes them even more impressive is that they are also a married couple who run their own separate interior design studios.

Eilyn's aesthetic is known for being minimal, classic, and chic, with a focus on clean lines, neutral tones, and carefully curated pieces. She often states that "less is more" and believes in the power of simplicity when it comes to creating a beautiful interior. Her designs are timeless and elegant, with a focus on functionality and practicality.

Ray's aesthetic, on the other hand, is maximal, retro, and vibrant. He believes that "more is more" and is not afraid to mix and match bold colors, patterns, and textures to create a space that is full of personality and energy. His designs are often inspired by the 60s and 70s, with a focus on vintage pieces and bold statement pieces.

Despite their different design styles, Eilyn and Ray have a shared passion for creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. Their collaboration has resulted in their own Netflix show, "Designing Miami," where they showcase their unique design styles and take on various interior design projects in the Miami area.

They showcase the importance of communication and compromise in any successful marriage and running their own identity and brand in the very competitive interior design market. They have proven that it is possible to balance a successful career with a happy marriage, and their partnership serves as an inspiration to many.

Comes True Dream

for Designer Helping Students to Find Their Fit

FLLFW FORT LAUDERDALE FASHION WEEK MAGAZINE

Since she was three years old in the Dominican Republic, Rucht D’OleoSchwartz expressed herself in colors, patterns, and shapes and had an interest in her mother’s sewing machine She learned how to make clothes by watching her mother and started making clothes for her Barbie dolls. As she got older, D’OleoSchwartz realized a piece of clothing, such as a dress, shows the best of someone and leaves a little to the imagination Being both a cocoon and platform for someone’s inner butterfly “As a fashion designer, I then saw the need to teach people how to sew,” said D’Oleo-Schwartz. “Giving people the opportunity and sharing so much with students ”

In 1995, Rucht D’Oleo-Schwartz attended Instituto Tecnologico Mercy Jacquez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. After earning her diploma in fashion design, she found success opening her boutique in the Dominican Republic Her fashion designs were fueled by creativity that led to numerous awards, being featured on fashion shows, and created designs for two candidates in the Miss Dominican Republic Pageant. “My first job in the Dominican Republic was a kindergarten assistant and helping the instructor and I used to teach there,” said D’Oleo-Schwartz

“I wanted to teach and be hands-on with more people.”

She eventually left her homeland and settled in Miami for new opportunities This led to her first collection in 2006 debuting in stores, writing a book, judging fashion shows, and in 2006, being named Best Fashion Designer in Miami With people coming to her for advice, inspiration, and wanting to learn how to sew, she saw the need to be an instructor – opening and founding North Miami’s The Fashion Institute of Florida.

“It’s important for me to highlight the importance of education and opportunity,” said D’Oleo-Schwartz “Starting somewhere with a vision ”

As CEO of The Fashion Institute of Florida, D’Oleo-Schwartz’s mission is to have a vocational fashion school for students interested in launching a career in the fashion industry, without paying the high cost of traditional fashion colleges “We have some students out of state and international,” said D’OleoSchwartz “We have someone from Tennessee, South Carolina, Argentina, and Columbia.”

The Fashion Institute of Florida also has courses,

workshops, virtual classes, and industry experts such as Project Runway’ season 19 winner, Shantall Lacayo “It allows us to make a connection with each student,” said D’Oleo-Schwartz. “To be so intimate ”The Fashion Institute of Florida has professional instructors with years of knowledge and experience working in the fashion industry. All preparing students to work in the fashion industry.

And as the world begins to reopen after the pandemic, expect to see a resurgence of retro-inspired styles, with nods to the 70s and 80s. AAs the saying goes, “fashion is cyclical,” and nowhere is this more evident than in vintage photographs. The 1950s were a time of postwar prosperity, and fashion reflected this newfound optimism and energy. The styles of the era were characterized by a distinct sense of femininity and elegance, with full skirts, cinched waists, and delicate fabrics dominating the runway. Thanks to the Gene Hyde Photograph Collection at History Fort Lauderdale, we are able to catch a glimpse of this iconic era in fashion history.

These vintage photos showcase the clothing and accessories that were popular at the time, and serve as a reminder of just how important fashion has been throughout history. One of the standout trends of the 1950s was the hourglass silhouette, which was achieved by cinching the waist with a wide belt or corset.

This created a dramatic contrast between the narrow waist and the full skirts that were so popular at the time. Women also favored high heels, gloves, and elaborate hats, all of which helped to elevate their look to one of sophistication and glamour. Men’s fashion in the 1950s was equally iconic, with tailored suits and fedoras dominating the style scene. The sleek lines of these suits were often accented by pocket squares or ties, and the overall effect was one of understated elegance and refinement. Perhaps what is most striking about these vintage photos is the sense of timelessness that they evoke. Despite the fact that they were taken over half a century ago, the clothing and accessories on display could easily be worn today.

This is a testament to the enduring appeal of fashion, and to the way in which it has the power to transcend time and place In many ways, fashion is a reflection of the society in which it is created. The styles and trends of a particular era are often a response to the cultural and political climate of the time, and they can serve as a way of expressing individuality and identity.

This is just as true today as it was in the 1950s, and it is why fashion will always be an important part of our collective history. As we look back on these vintage photos from the 1950s, we are reminded of just how powerful fashion can be.

It has the ability to shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us, and it serves as a reflection of our hopes, dreams, and aspirations. So let us continue to celebrate the role that fashion has played throughout history, and let us look forward to the new trends and styles that are yet to come.
