November 6 & 13, 2011 Christ at the Center

November 6 Mission Sunday Through Mission, our church is blessed to be able to offer support and to share the love and hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people both nearby and throughout the world. During this year’s Mission Celebration Sunday, we are looking forward to sharing with you the joy of friendships and partnerships that have been built through Mission at First Presbyterian. Our theme for the celebration is “Connect to Mission at FPC,” and it is in keeping with this that we want to call attention to those important aspects of Community, Service, Partnership, Fellowship and Love that come together to make Mission a reality at our church. And, we hope that each of you will be inspired to “connect” with the many Mission opportunities available at FPC. So please join us this Sunday, November 6, during the 9 and 11:15 worship services as your hear members of our staff and lay leaders speak about what Mission means to them and to the life of our church. Between worship services, we invite you to join us for a combined youth and adult Sunday School program in Fifield Hall. And we hope you will also come to a complimentary Celebration Luncheon at 12:15 to share fellowship and to hear an inspirational performance by our Youth Musical Ministry. Thank you for your faithful support. We look forward to seeing you.

In HIS name,

2011 Mission Council

November 13 HAPPY 400TH ANNIVERSARY TO THE KJV! Mark Noll, in his article for Christianity Today entitled “Me And Thee And The KJV: Where Would Nov. 13 - George Wirth We Be Without The to preach Most Popular English Bible Ever?” (May 2011 issue) had this to say about the 400th anniversary of the King James Version: “the immense good accomplished in and through the KJV is a marvel. When the KJV became the cultural and literary standard for the entire English-speaking world, the spiritual impact of the Bible was certainly enhanced because the scriptural message was carried far and wide...” That was and still is the case for this remarkable translation of the scriptures which most of us learned and memorized as children in Sunday School. And that will be the focus of our sermon on November 13 as we reflect on the origin of the KJV, the influence it has had on Christianity since it was first published in 1611, and how this age old translation has touched all of our lives. “Thy word is truth” says John 17:17 - so it was, so it is and so it always shall be! So please come join us for worship at 9 and 11:15 in the sanctuary, as we “listen for and hear the word of the Lord!” And I hope that you will invite your family and friends to join you as well.

Faithfully Yours,

George B. Wirth
