Called as Partners in Christ’s Service BEECHER

Chris Holmes

+Prayer of Confession (In Unison) Merciful God, you have called us to be partners in the Gospel, to labor together for the harvest of your kingdom. Yet we confess that too often we work alone, guarding our own interests instead of seeking the good of others. We have doubted the gifts of our neighbors, and we have neglected to share the peace of Christ. Forgive us, Lord. Renew our hearts with your grace, that we may abound in love, discern what is good, and live as faithful witnesses to Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

(Time of Silent Confession)

+Assurance of Pardon

One: The one who began a good work in you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel! All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven and redeemed! Alleluia! Amen!

Lauren Ghighi I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. Announcements

Meet our Guest Pastor

We are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Edward Buri to our pulpit today. Dr. Buri is a distinguished pastor, theologian, writer, and commentator whose ministry bridges the church, academic, and public life.

He currently serves as Parish Minister of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Embakasi Parish, located in Eastern Nairobi, and as Moderator of the New Nairobi East Presbytery. His pastoral ministry is complemented by a deep commitment to theological education and public engagement. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Presbyterian University of East Africa, where he helps train the next generation of ministers and leaders, and he frequently lends his voice as a media commentator on questions of faith, ethics, and politics.

Dr. Buri is also a respected columnist with The East African Standard, one of Kenya’s leading newspapers, where he addresses issues at the intersection of Christian faith and contemporary society. His passion for ethics and youth empowerment led him to found the Institute of Ethics and Youth Affairs, an initiative dedicated to nurturing moral leadership and equipping young people for constructive engagement in civic life.

He is the author of Love the Christian Signature, a published collection of sermons that promote peace, reconciliation, and the witness of Christ’s love in a divided world. Academically, Dr. Buri holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi, Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a PhD in Practical Theology from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. His scholarship and writing reflect his desire to integrate deep theological reflection with practical questions of ministry, public life, and discipleship.

Dr. Buri is married to Mary, and together they are raising two sons, Thayu (12) and Wega (10). Their family life is a joyful witness to the love and grace of God, which also animates his preaching and teaching ministry.
