Dear Friends, After more than three years of preparation the actual work on our sanctuary organ began in May. A crew from the organ builder Schlueter disassembled the parts of the organ that are in the gallery. Some of the pipes were shipped to Klais Organ Builders in Germany who is revoicing them (modifying the sound they make), others are in storage while Schlueter is releathering the wind chests (wooden crates under the pipes, that have small holes that are sealed by small leather patches - these are being replaced). The console in the gallery was hoisted down as well and is currently being rewired with state of the art technology and according to fire code. At the same time, new pipes are being made, safe access to the elevated organ chambers in the gallery has been designed and will be installed during the summer, a platform for a new division in the empty chamber on the right side of the gallery is under construction, and we are working on the layout of the main console. Work on the gallery organ will be finished by the end of September, when we will take a break in the onsite work until January 2017, when the main organ will be taken out. We want to thank the 156 households that have made either a pledge or a contribution to the Organ Renewal Campaign thus far totaling $1,050,000! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The total campaign goal is $1.6 million, which includes a $380,000 reserve fund. This leaves us about $550,000 short of our goal. We want to strongly encourage the over 900 member households that have not yet made a pledge or contribution to participate in this campaign. Checks can be made payable to the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Attention: Organ Renewal Campaign. Please prayerfully consider a gift for this campaign and thank you in advance for your generosity.
Blessings,
Tony Sundermeier Jens Korndoerfer Senior Pastor Director for Worship, the Arts, and Organist
