January 22 There never seems to be “enough”, does there? Not enough time, and certainly not enough money. Something in us always seems to think we need more. It is so easy to give into January 22 Craig Goodrich to preach the anxiety of scarcity thinking, isn’t it? We think this way about our own lives and from time to time also about our life together as the Church of Jesus Christ. In Exodus, Moses tells the Israelites that the LORD has commanded them to build the tabernacle, or tent of meeting, and to do so with materials to be offered by the people. And so the people freely give of their gold, silver, colored linens, leather, woods and oils. In fact, their offering was is so overwhelming, that those doing the building tell Moses, “The people are bringing much more than enough for doing the work that the LORD has commanded us to do.” (Exodus 36:5). In 1st Timothy, Paul instructs those with worldly wealth, “to be rich in good works, generous and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.” (1st Timothy 6:18-19). Our focus this Sunday is giving to the work that God has commanded us to do and taking “hold of the life that is really life.” The sermon is entitled “More Than Enough.”
Grace and courage,
Craig
