t was King Ge o r g e t h e 6th of England who proclaimed to the British Empire as the dawn came up on 1939 – “I said to the man at the gate of the New Year: Give me a light that I may tread in the darkness,” but he replied to me “Go forth into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. And that shall be to you better than a light and safer than any known way.” As we open the gate to the New Year 2013, I hope and pray, together with all of you in our “Family of Faith,” that the Lord will continue to lead us toward “the Light that shines in the darkness” (John 1) and shows us His will and His way. We celebrate Epiphany Communion on Sunday, January 6 and the meditation is entitled “Follow the Star.” With the text from Matthew 2: 1-12 about the wise men coming to worship the Christ Child. P

Then on Founders’ Sunday, January 13, we will focus on the history of First Presbyterian Church and I will preach the sermon “Never Have so Many Owed So Much to So Few.” So please come join us for worship, Christian Education, fellowship and service to others at the corner of 16th and Peachtree – and I encourage you to invite your family members and friends to join us!

Happy New Year!

Faithfully yours,

George B. Wirth
