DECEMBER 2025 32 YEARS SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY SINCE 1993

From time to time we all suffer from tired, dry eyes that just need a little TLC. Too much time in front of the computer, late nights, certain medications, allergies, dry eye syndrome and blepharitis are just some of the causes, but thankfully most can be managed by using drops, creams, lid washes or a combination of all three.

At Opticas InterVision Expert we have a new brand of treatments to help manage and alleviate uncomfortable symptoms from dry eye, blepharitis, irritation, hay fever, conjunctiva and eyelid inflammation, and to help reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles in tired eyes. Symptoms can be mild, moderate or severe, and involve the eye itself and/or the eyelids. Commonly patients will complain of blurred vision, red or watery eyes, lid swelling, gritty or burning sensation or the feeling that there's something in the eye. There are other causes that can give similar symptoms; therefore, it is recommended that you have a check with one of our Optometrists to determine the cause, they can then devise a suitable treatment plan and recommend the most suitable drops or creams.
Conditions such as dry eye and blepharitis are chronic, therefore management is continuous, and as all drops consist of different components, it is important to continue with the same ones if you find they are helping.
A sample of some of the drops we have at InterVision Expert: -
• AquaPro which suits all kinds of dry eye deficiencies and is preservative free;
• Aquaclar 50+ is specifically for dry eye over the age of 50 years and as well as hydration, it prevents cataract formation and has anti-aging properties;
• Aqualerg hydrates and reduces inflammation and hay fever irritation;
• Orcex cream uses Manuka honey as a natural antimicrobial to help with lid styes and blepharitis;
• Blefacalm which helps reduce bags and dark circles under the eyes;
• plus many more treatments from this new generation of treatments.
For an eye health check, which includes a full eye examination, please book an appointment by calling one of our stores or visiting our webpage www.intervisionexpert.es.

I have just returned from a lovely couple of days in Madrid. It was a fairly last minute trip accompanying my kids to see James Arthur in concert as there was a spare ticket going. I must say it did not disappoint – although I have never really been a follower of his music that has now changed and fortunately I did know quite a few songs so was able to sing and dance along with the crowd.
Most importantly was the lovely time we all had together and we have vowed to do it more often and not let life pass us by.
Obviously you cannot go to Madrid and not take in the vast amounts of shopping areas although we did refrain from doing any actual shopping.
The massive Christmas trees throughout the city and decorations made us all start to feel in the spirit of Christmas and reminded us of how close it actually is...I best start to get prepared!
We managed to purchase a couple of tickets in Madrid for the El Gordo...let's hope it brings us some luck.
I finish on the same note as every year..thanking you all for your loyal support throughout the year and to wish everyone a fantastic Christmas and New Year.
Until next time ….

The Roscón de Reyes is a traditional Spanish sweet bread enjoyed especially during the Christmas season, most famously on January 6th, the Day of the Three Kings. Shaped like a large ring, the roscón is made from a soft, slightly sweet dough flavoured with orange blossom water. Its top is usually decorated with candied fruits, which symbolise the jewels of the crowns worn by the Three Kings. Many versions are filled with whipped cream, pastry cream, or chocolate, though the classic version is unfilled.
One of the most iconic features of the roscón is the hidden surprise baked inside. Traditionally, there are two small items: a tiny figurine and a dry bean. Whoever finds the figurine is celebrated as the “king” or “queen” of the day, while the person who gets the bean is expected to pay for the roscón the following year. This playful custom adds a sense of fun and anticipation to the celebration.

Winter in Spain may be mild compared to Northern Europe, but cooler evenings can still make your home feel less comfortable — and rising energy costs don’t help. The good news is that with a few simple adjustments, you can keep your space cosy while keeping your bills under control.
Simple habits that make a difference:
• Let the sunshine in. Open curtains and blinds during the day to make the most of natural warmth, then close them once it gets dark to trap the heat inside.
• Block cold air. Fit seals on windows and doors, or use draught stoppers to keep warm air where it belongs.
• Heat smarter. Set timers and thermostats so your home

warms up just before you wake or return from work, instead of running the system all day.

• Look after your equipment. Clean filters, check your boiler and service your air conditioning regularly - well-maintained systems use less energy and last longer.
• Add comfort layers. Soft rugs, heavier curtains, blankets and slippers make a noticeable difference on chilly nights.
• Switch off properly. Electronics left on standby still consume power, so unplug what’s not in use.
A few mindful changes can go a long way towards creating a more comfortable, welcoming home - without seeing a spike in your utility costs.
Regular maintenance isn’t just about comfort; it’s also about safety and prevention. A well-kept heating or electrical system is less likely to fail and more likely to save you money in the long run.

When it comes to owning property, whether it be a home, a commercial building, or a piece of land, many individuals might overlook the importance of having their property surveyed by a proper qualified architect, especially if there are no apparent structural defects. However, a property survey conducted by a qualified architect offers numerous benefits that go beyond identifying mayor structural defects. From ensuring legal compliance to maximising potential, here's why you should consider having your property surveyed by an architect.
1. Unearthing Hidden Problems: Even if your property appears to be in good condition, there may be underlying issues that an untrained eye might miss. Architect-conducted surveys can identify potential problems before they escalate into costly repairs.

2. Ensuring Compliance with Regulations: Building rules, zoning regulations, and property laws are constantly evolving. An architect's survey will ensure that your property complies with all the relevant regulations. This is especially vital if you plan to make any renovations or expansions in the future. Failing to comply with these regulations could result in fines or legal troubles, making an architect's survey a proactive measure to avoid such issues.
3. Accurate Property Documentation: An architect's survey provides you with precise and detailed documentation of your property. This documentation can be invaluable for insurance purposes, property valuations, or legal disputes. It establishes a baseline for your property's condition and boundaries, protecting your interests as a property owner.
4. Maximising Property Potential: A property survey conducted by an architect can also offer insights into how you can best utilise your property. Whether you are considering a landscape redesign, adding an extension, or developing the land for a specific purpose, an architect's expertise can help you optimise your property's potential and increase its value.
5. Reducing Uncertainty in Real Estate Transactions: If you are buying or selling property, having an architect-conducted survey can instil confidence in both parties. Buyers will feel assured about the property's condition, and sellers can demonstrate transparency, making the negotiation process smoother and potentially leading to faster deals. If you are purchasing a property having a on-site survey with a qualified architect (approximately 120€) is essential.
6. Long-term Financial Savings: While property surveys by architects may incur an initial cost, they can save you substantial amounts of money in the long run. By detecting and addressing issues early on, you can prevent more extensive damages that could be far more expensive to repair. Moreover, a well-maintained and compliant property is likely to have a higher resale value.
7. Peace of Mind: Knowing that your property has been thoroughly examined by a professional architect provides peace of mind. It gives you confidence that you are making informed decisions about your property, ensuring the safety, legality, and potential for your investment.
In conclusion, property surveys by architects offer far-reaching advantages beyond just identifying structural defects. From uncovering hidden problems to ensuring compliance with regulations, maximising potential, and providing peace of mind, an architect's survey is an essential investment for any property owner. Whether you plan to make changes to your property or simply want to be well-informed about its condition, consulting an architect for a thorough survey is a step that will pay off in numerous ways in the future. Remember, prevention is always better than cure, and having your property surveyed by an architect is a proactive measure that can save you from potential headaches and financial burdens down the road.

Last month I mentioned that an ordinary pair of binoculars and a garden chair are all you need to begin looking at the heavens. My main reason for saying this is the number of telescopes that go unused in homes across the world, whereas a pair of binoculars is always useful for anyone in the home.
Why do most telescopes go unused? There are several reasons for this, firstly most of the telescopes (not all) in the beginners price range are poor things giving poor results. Secondly, a decent telescope is difficult to understand for a beginner, the stand and how it’s attached to the telescope tube are all important. The stand itself, usually a tripod has to be bulky and strong to keep vibration to a minimum, this means a good one is heavy. Secondly the head, the proper name for the gubbins that fastens the ‘scope to the tripod, a simple one works fine, but it isn’t easy to understand for a beginner. I’ve lost count of how often I’ve explained why all the angles of the two main axis on an equatorial mount are critical to guiding a ‘scope properly, often to blank faces.
If any of that doesn’t make sense to you, that’s because a telescope isn’t a simple thing to use, you have to learn about what things are and how to use them and no-one else can do that for you, most people don’t.
Of course in today’s world we have clever electronics to do most of this for us, most often on compact designs of telescope. These work very well, but they cost more than many people are willing to pay when starting off. Size really does matter when beginners look at telescopes, a big one must be better...... right?
No, often that isn’t the case, a big object lens, the main lens is a very good thing but a bulky telescope on a wobbly stand is a horrible thing to use and these are precisely what most under 200€ telescopes are.
All this is why I recommend binoculars to most beginners, they are easy to understand and use yet open up a vast amount of the sky for real observation.

The last point worth a mention is expectation, what does a user expect to see through a telescope? Are you hoping to see a planet or galaxy like in the many pictures on the web? You never will, a photograph is actually many, many pictures layered together, taken with very clever astro cameras taken over many, many hours of viewing and stitched together on a computer, no human eye can do this.
Nearly done now, so you’ve used binoculars for a while, learnt the main bits of the night sky, and fancy moving on to a ‘scope, the problem is that the ones you fancy start at a thousand euros and you just don’t know if it’s worth it. Join a club, this is because clubs often get approached with second hand telescopes, occasionally free of charge and sometimes these are decent ones that are well worth having. Naturally there are some of the nasty ones I described earlier but most clubs filter these out and don’t pass them on.

Aries: As the Moon squares Jupiter in Cancer, beware of a minor conflict, and yes, you have the right to be angry too. This is a time of overthinking and may be overindulgence on your behalf.
Taurus: With the Moon in your first house, in the sign of Taurus, right at the start of the month it’s what you say or do this month that makes the difference. Tell it just like it is: be cruel to be kind!
Gemini: The Full Moon transits lunar energy especially for Geminis at the start of a busy time for you! When it all gets too much for you, you need the answers you have been waiting for, for too long.
Cancer: A time to get your priorities together, while you can. Jupiter enters into Gemini bringing expansion, trust and faith in a new venture. You were so worried and what happens next is magic.
Leo: The New Moon in Capricorn bids that you take some of the pressure off so you can face up to changes that now have to be made, for the good of all concerned. There’s no going back now.
Virgo: Your opposing sign of Pisces hosts the Neptune Direct mid month. Dreams now need to seek a new reality as your wishes re-align and all illusion fades. You were right all along, after all.

Libra: Mercury in Scorpio trines Jupiter in Cancer. This is a perfect time to set new goals. Whatever happened it wasn’t your fault. So focus now on the changes you need to make, and don’t look back!
Scorpio: The last Quarter Moon is in Aries and you are certain to use new levels of power to get what you’ve been waiting for. Somebody around you has been economical with the truth. Why?
Sagittarius: Midmonth the Sun hits up the ninth house bringing illumination that will speed up a project in process. Keep on as you are doing, you may have started, but you haven’t finished just yet.
Capricorn: Mars transits into your home planet bringing both strength and determination to seal the deal. Now trust has gone you are never going to settle for second best, but get the best deal!
Aquarius: Resident Pluto is finally asking questions about your current situation. Money comes and goes, but it is a good idea to make some money stick around for a rainy day. Expect the odd shower!
Pisces: With Neptune Direct and Venus in Capricorn your loyalty is about to be rewarded for a job well done. This is a time of stability for you, and someone is shortly coming back into your life again.

If you have never been to the La Zenia Beach Christmas Day party then you are missing out. It is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the winter season, drawing thousands of people to Cala Bosque beach in Orihuela Costa. What started more than a decade ago as a small gathering of expatriates longing for a festive celebration in the Mediterranean has grown into the largest Christmas beach party in Europe. Those first intimate meetups quickly gained popularity through word-of-mouth, evolving into a cherished local tradition that blends holiday spirit with the relaxed coastal lifestyle.
After a pause during the pandemic, the celebration returned in December 2022, attracting more crowds than ever. Today, the event brings together residents and visitors from more than 100 nationalities, many travelling from colder parts of Europe and beyond to enjoy a unique Christmas by the sea. The gathering remains completely spontaneous, with no official organiser or sponsor, though local police help ensure safety and manage the flow of traffic. Most arrive early, in festive clothing (layer it up as it can start off cooler but get very warm if the weather is anything like previous years), carrying picnic tables, chairs, parasols, and cool boxes. Families and friends share homemade dishes from around the world, creating a multicultural feast. The result is a joyful celebration that unites people through food, fun, and the magic of Christmas on the beach.

This Christmas market is a charming, traditional Christmas event in the Valencian Community, held on the 4th to the 8th December in the historic centre of Jijona, the famous birthplace of turrón. For several days, the town transforms into a festive marketplace filled with lights, music, and the irresistible aroma of almonds and honey - the essential ingredients of its world-renowned nougat. Visitors stroll through streets lined with artisan stalls offering handcrafted gifts, local products, and, of course, countless varieties of Jijona’s celebrated turrón.
The atmosphere is warm and lively, with families, children, and tourists enjoying the festive decorations and seasonal entertainment. Live music, traditional dances, and performances create a joyful backdrop, while costumed figures and children’s activities add a playful touch. Many stalls offer tastings, allowing guests to sample everything from classic soft turrón to innovative modern flavours.

Local artisans proudly showcase their craftsmanship, from handmade sweets to ceramics, textiles, and Christmas decorations. The fair is not just a market; it is a celebration of culture, gastronomy, and community spirit. For many, the Feria de Navidad de Jijona marks the true beginning of the holiday season. It brings together tradition, flavour, and festive cheer, making it an unforgettable Christmas experience.
