_________ We all know how this goes‌ From Donald Trump stating all negative polling is fake news, to social media’s fake news epidemic, we the people know that political parties don’t leave any stone unturned to spread their propaganda. Finally, reaching the climax during the election time.

Fake news Here is a fake poll trying to in uence the voters in Punjab in the recent 2017 elections.

A similar e ect could be seen by the same news channel supporting the same party in previous Delhi elections. Well, we know how that “no contest turned out to be.

The beauty of television is that the owner and their stakes in these news channels can be known through the public forums and hence avoided by the people who nd it shy. Although a new solution seems underway for the new hotspots of fake news. Facebook and Google have been battling this beast for a while now. Anonymity of users makes cross-checking even harder on the social platforms.

Steps being taken by Google and Facebook A while back, Google had announced a new initiative called CrossCheck, at the News Impact Summit in Paris. The company claims to work with the French media on a collaborative journalism project, due to start on February 27 (according to a joint statement). Perhaps the biggest responsibilities of CrossCheck would be working with Facebook-owned CrowdTangle, which acts like something of a ranking tool to track and curate the most popular posts across the social network.

“With combined expertise from across media and technology, CrossCheck aims to ensure hoaxes, rumors and false claims are swiftly debunked, and misleading or confusing stories are accurately reported,” Google said in a blog post. With the French presidential election approaching, Facebook said that by Monday it will extend the fact-checking tools it has already launched in the U.S. and Germany to France in the coming weeks, with local media in charge of spotting and agging shy content. The initiative also includes making it easier for the platform’s users to signal potential fake news, with the goal of limiting nancial gains for authors of such content. Anything agged will appear on Facebook as “disputed by third party factcheckers”. Google and Facebook have both been under increasing scrutiny over the spread of hoaxes, conspiracy theories and propaganda – sometimes referred to by the catch-all term “fake news”.

Our duty and opportunity This gets me to the point where we contribute, content marketing. The way content marketing services work is by picking the trending topics and writing on the same. It ensures your article touches many lives and current topic allows it to form a connection with new readers. Although we all follow this practice, but I think we can de nitely curb down the negative impact of these propaganda blogs and posts by providing our opinions on the shared news. I intend to provide a better alternative to straight away resharing such content. When we know that researched, long and original content is the best way of staying on the rst page of Google, then why not implement these values to make better content? Collect a few sources and bust the myths and fake news being shown under a political party’s propaganda or ambitious viral content makers.

Following this, growth and visits to your websites would dramatically increase and you would be better ful lling your duty towards the platforms you use to market your products and content.
