Why not LinkedIn Premium? Let me be frank and tell you that over the period of time I have been on LinkedIn, I have used the paid services only in the start. I opted out of it because I found that the money spent on some other tools, gave me better results. I was using some 3 – 4 tools. Out of them, I used just one paid tool and all others were free. This process gave me twice (or in some cases even thrice) the result that I was getting through LinkedIn Premium. If you love LinkedIn Premium then please don’t change your stance because of me. In my experience, however, I was able to get greater results without it. I would also like to showcase the opinion of Power Formula, where their survey states the following numbers: “The results from my latest LinkedIn user survey show that only 18% of us are paying for our LinkedIn experience.”

“This number has been consistently rising since I began my survey ve years ago, but the majority of users are still taking advantage of the world’s largest database of business professionals for free.” Take a look at their detailed survey at Power Formula’s Survey – Portrait of a LinkedIn user.

Will your business bene t from Linkedin or Facebook?

Finding jobs using Google Shortcuts Although this post majorly focuses on using LinkedIn as your base for job search, we wouldn’t want you to miss an opportunity just because of the scope of this post. So right in the start, I am including a couple universal job search tricks that can be used for LinkedIn as well as other Job platforms.

Shortcut for Finding unadvertised jobs The rst step to nding a job is to pick a company. And for those who want to nd it fast, a good t would be the companies which are expanding and looking for the positions of your interest. Google News & Search can be used to look for such companies. Start with Typing in the following query in the search area: “Hiring up to * employees”<< nds news having the following keywords

And instead of employees, you can also write down the niche or related term/keyword you are targeting. (*) Asterisk stands for a ll in the blank in Google search. And can be used to ll up anything.

★ +1 Bonus ShortNote in the PPT ★ Another nifty tip if you wanted a job that could be called either “Academic writer” or Copy writer”, you can type this query into Google – “Academic writer” OR “copy writer” jobs << nds entries for both job pro les Putting a capital ‘OR’ in middle of your search query tells Google to nd results for both. And this can also be further utilized into multiple location nding etc. etc.. Let me show you these by an example. Here are a few snapshots:

If you prefer LinkedIn, look for these companies there. And there you go! Easy right?

Finding the most active recruiting platform of your target company It’s true that not all companies use LinkedIn for recruiting. To nd out which companies are using which platform, Type down the popular Job search sites like Indeed, Glassdoor, Linkedin etc And compose your search the following way: site: linkedin.com CompanyName << nds all entries of Company name in a site.

The number of results, posts etc would let you understand their activity on di erent social channels. Depending on which you would know where to target these companies. How the Internet impacts Alternate Careers in 2017

Linkedin pro le setup tricks With about 10,000 followers on LinkedIn, I can say that this post of Entrepreneur.com’s stats on perfect LinkedIn Pro le Infographic truly does cover all the things I used and much more. Such emphasis on LinkedIn is because of the stats showcased in the Infographic below:

Everything above 33% should demand your attention. And these stats are way beyond that. Don’t get overwhelmed though. Utilizing these stats to yield result is what you are here for. Keeping Job nding in mind, I intend to put forward what I have used to get results and where I think one should focus while on LinkedIn.

Include Recruiter’s search keywords in your Pro le Headline Value + Keyword = Perfect pro le Headline. This is the math for perfect pro le headline that gets your pro le into recruiter’s search results and increases its views. Let’s understand each part of this formula with examples: Value is what you can add to a company if recruited. Eg – Increasing views, Rich contacts, Research or Experience. On the other hand, Keyword is what the recruiter types in the search box to nd someone in your eld. Taking the Writer example forward, if your area of expertise is SEO content writing, be sure to add words like SEO, web, online along with “content writer”. Because these would be the keywords a recruiter would type in to nd you. Here is an example of Heading that attracts: “SEO Content Writer with 20+ articles on Google First page”

Following Companies & the members, you wish to work with Why I consider LinkedIn to be the best place for job search is because it is a social networking site along with being a Business portal for many. And this step takes leverage of this unique feature of LinkedIn. When you visit a Company page, apart from following them, also check out their employees.

The best part is that this isn’t just a group of empty employee pro les as you see on other platforms. These pro les are live and actively used. LinkedIn is also the rst choice of majorly all start-ups. Its exibility, less charge and a wider range of active users make it a go-to platform for many. So the smaller companies that aren’t present on other platforms are much easier to nd here. But

it’s not like big companies are inactive here either. Getting in touch with some key in uencers in these big companies can take up your portfolio much higher than you anticipated. Just keep your pro le up to date for when they discover you.

Posting in groups where the company members reside. As we know, smaller organizations tend to hand over more power to each employee. Each of these employees takes up multiple responsibilities. They might be the ones sharing the next Job requirement. In the case of a bigger organization, you must look for individual pro les involved in HR and Recruitment process. Your next step should be to join the Groups they are a part of. This doesn’t only help you for a short time but also in the long run. The key is to attract them towards your expertise. To nd out where the company employees reside, Open their pro le > Click on “show more” of their Pro le’s Interest area > And Check out the Groups they are a part of from the pop-up.

Whenever these people post an update they require most attention on, they would try sharing them on the Groups as well. So, along with catching their attention, this step would help you know when a post is empty in their company. Groups also help in getting in touch with other similar companies and their recruiters. And hence is a great place to be for networking and job nding.

Using LinkedIn publishing platform for Marketing your pro le Deeper Research proves your authority and knowledge. Your ability in making posts richer sure may consume more time but it’s a necessity for the approach that aims for In uential content. And this is the content that gets you noticed.

We use tools such as Buzzsumo for nding topics that people wish to read about. Such tools help us be regular on social platforms. And nd what content is trending. Here are the pointers for best use of LinkedIn publishing: Write about areas in which you have an expertise. Keep your writing focused. Avoid covering too many topics in the same post. Keep your voice authentic. Keep your long-form posts appropriate for the LinkedIn audience. Don’t post anything obscene, shocking, hateful, intimidating, or otherwise unprofessional. The more long-form posts you publish, the more credibility you will build, and the stronger your professional pro le will become. There are no limits on word count, but the long-form posts that are best received are more than three paragraphs.

Personal Messaging each new connection Something that I and my friends looking for gigs frequently do is the Welcome Message. On LinkedIn, in uential people aren’t always looking for a hire. But that does not mean that you should not instigate them with your skills. A welcome message works wonders in building connections. The picture below is the proof of how new connections can help you build business relations by instigating them.

Picking the right tool for Job Alerts Trust me nobody wants job alerts from Naukri and Indeed. Why? Because they don’t help you by sending emails, they spam you! Turning job nding into frustration. And as shameless as they are, even if you disable their noti cations, they won’t stop. How do I know this? Well, I still get emails from them till this day. And I will use all in my power to stop you from following this ill fated route. Let’s get smart and use IFTTT – If This Then That. There are multiple ways of using IFTTT. You can make Applets and trigger them for any event. With lots of already built Applets and ability to customize them your own way, this tool can help you automate half your workload. What’s great is that this one app can help you devise your own strategy. Here is a strategy that I can recommend for Job hunting: Gets alerts from companies you would want to work at. The process is simple. Pass your email id to IFTTT and follow a company’s LinkedIn page. It will send you a mail each time they post something. Mind you, one should follow just a few pages, however. Because it sends you all the postings by a certain company(relevant or not).
