At this Filipiniana night, wewant to remember “Luzviminda”, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the threeregions of thePhilippines hoping to createa moment to allow us to reflect and share our memories of theregion wecamefrom or represent.
Tonight, markstheend ofmy third termasyourPresidentand will beservingmy 4thterm along with the same officers and board members who have served you for these many years. The privilege to serve our community for the last 6 years has been rewarding but sometimes daunting. It seems easy, effortless and no big deal. But to think how to craft what our community wants to make it last for many more fruitful years becomes a challenge. With committed officers surrounding me, and Members like you, I welcomethe challenge and will striveto deliver with conviction.
I would like to takea moment to thank my husband Rich who frequently tells mehe is asaint! Thank you, Rich for loving meand for believing in me.
Most of all, I’m so thankful to our Almighty God, our Lord Jesus for giving me good health, strength, energy and guidancein leading this Association and all the many things I do. In the Epistle to the Philippians, St. Paul, theApostle wrote:“I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me” Verse 4:13. Clinging to this Bible Verse makes me feel like the Energizer Bunny!
May God’s loveand blessings beupon you now and always. Merry Christmas and avery Happy New Year!
Sincerely yours,

Message from the Chairman
Merry Christmas to all the members of the Filipino Association of Toledo (FAT) and to all present here tonight.
On behalf of the Special Commission On Relief and Education (SCORE) I would like to thank each and every one here, as well as those unable to attend, for your continued support of the good works that we try to do through SCORE. This past year, we have been able to support and to sponsor Medical Missions to the Philippines, Guatemala, Honduras, and Puerto Rico. In addition to the Medical Care provided on these trips, we were able to provide unique training experiences for many University of Toledo who are training in various medical professions. This year we were also able to sponsor an Emergency Medical ReliefMission to theBahamas which were devastated in September by Hurricane Dorian. We will be providing College Scholarships to two deserving young members of our FAT community. And, we will continue to provide funding assistance to some of our local Toledo based charities such as the Kitchen for the Poor.
As we celebrate this Christmas Season, we must remember that the birth of Jesus Christ is the center of our celebration. As an adopted Filipino, I have learned that Filipino values reflect the values which Christ brought to the Human Race. His greatest Commandment is to Love. Love our families, Love our neighbors, Love our enemies, and Love ourselves. It is out of Love that we provide care for the sick and infirm, we provide food, clothing, and shelter for the poor and needy, we provide nourishment for the bodies, minds, and souls of others. These are the missions of SCORE and the missions of all Christians. For, the greater Grace is in the giving than in the receiving. I thank you and I pray for God’s Blessings on you and your families as you continue to support SCORE with your wealth, time, and talents.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of SCORE, I want to wish all of you a Joyous Christmas and a Blessed New Year,
7 December, 2019

As a 1st generation son of Dr. Tony and Doring Paat, Dr. Richard Paat serves as the Chairman of the Medical Missions for the Filipino Association of Toledo's Special Commission on Education and Relief. He has led 87 medical missions and disaster relief teams that have treated more than 127,0000 patients around the world. Starting with his first medical mission in 1994, Dr. Paat has brought volunteer medical teams to the Philippines, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti and Tanzania. His missions successfully partner with churches, medical schools, the Rotary and Lions clubs, Catholic Charities, the Peace Corp, governments, the UN and the World Health Organization.
Dr. Paat’s wife, Myra, and their 3 children have joined him on numerous missions. He was awarded a grant from the Gates Foundation to implement a health promoter training program that now educates local villagers in Tanzania, Guatemala, Honduras, and Haiti, allowing basic medical care to exist even after his teams are gone. His mission teams implement clean water filtration programs, and serve as ambassadors of goodwill throughout the world.
Over the last 15 years, Dr. Paat has provided free medical care to the uninsured and homeless of the Toledo area. He founded and runs the Community Care Free Medical Clinic and the Labre Street Clinic every Monday and Thursday evening. In the summers, he organizes a mobile migrant worker clinic, and in the Fall, he runs the medical tent for the homeless. These free clinics assist more than 4,000 patients throughout the Toledo region.
