here are people who don’t like to celebrate holidays according to the calendar, but then there are those who organize receptions and celebrations in advance, considering them to be an opportunity to strengthen their position on the career ladder. There are some people who enjoy being the center of attention, and for the others the party is simply for the company of no one except the dog, a book or a cottage along the waterfront. Whatever scenario you prefer, the most important thing during the holidays is to do something for yourself.

The end of the year is an opportunity to reflect on the events of the past year and ask ourself in what direction we are moving and if we are doing what we want. If you are impulsive, let yourself take a spontaneous vacation or indulge in a shopping spree. If you are consistent, manage everything as desired in advance.

What creates the holiday feeling within me is the time spent with loved ones, and travelling.

The first can please you every day, but the second one is less common. For me the farther the journey the better. Among new people and in new surroundings you can look at things from a different perspective. In such situations you can find the answers to questions and come back with ideas for new projects, how to begin them and quickly complete them to move forwards to something new. In summary, travelling, emotions and experiences.

What are the best happenings of 2013 year for you?

My most outstanding events of the year were connected with travelling and meeting creative people. This year, I was happy to discover South America, particularly Peru and luckly met Charlotte Rampling , Jean-Paul Gaultier and Pierce Brosnan.

What are your plans for next year?

My plans for the future remain partly the same - exciting trips, as well I would like to finish my next book.

Lior Susana was born September 12th, 1982. At an early age Lior was drawn to the arts. Since then he has traveled to over 40 different countries.

Lior received a scholarship from the high fashion institute, Istituto Marangoni.

He is now based in Milan collaborating with Fashion&Beauty and working as a freelance fashion and advertising photographer.

Your best New Year’s eve of ever?

I dont really remember those, I think all of them were amazing, such a shame that I can’t recall any details ...

What are your hopes for 2014?

9 things that ispire me in November

November brings us to the middle of the chilly season, far away from the warmth of summer and close to the frosty winter. After months of heat it’s nice to just wrap yourself up in layers and knits. This Fall/Winter is characterized by well-def ined trends; such as colors, white, blue and pink and rich fabrics like velvet, tweed and pied du poule. From femmes fatales to mid-century ladies, from punk to grunge queens, designers represented every version of today’s woman. I feel that there are more wardrobe options during the cooler months so I really adore when this season is around the corner.

MARKET December 7 th | MM Cairoli | M ilan An old tradition for Milan that takes place every year is the celebration of the city’s patron saint, St. Ambrose (December 7), which is held in this picturesque marketplace, attracting thousands of people from around the world. You can buy a little bit of everything, from toys, to sweets and antiques.

Why such a strange name for the market? It dates back to an event in 1510 when an emissary of Pope Paul IV was visiting the city and began distributing sweets to the children who received him shouting “Oh Bej! Oh Bej!”, meaning “Oh beautiful! Oh beautiful!”. Now the fair is near the Castello Sforzesco.

Daniele Gatti has also shown his own enviable Verdi acumen throughout the world in terms of his strength and lyricism. Impressions that you would like to share?

Many leading journals have promoted the fashion week in Milan and speak about a revival of the creativity of the Italian designers.

Rather than raise the awareness of the creativity of designers, I would speak more generally of the very real recovery of Milan as the capital of high pret-a-porter. It was a very positive Fashion Week brought together by a spirit of cooperation within the institutions. For example, the Convention of the Chamber of Fashion with the Municipality of Milan, which allowed three young creative people to pull their own collections together and be presented in such a place as the unique and prestigious Hall of the Caryatids of the Royal Palace.

There was a good, positive energy and cohesion of the entire fashion industry, sharing a united vision, which bodes well for the future.

the weaknesses I feel I should speak of the size of many of our companies, which in a globalized market are unfavorable. What we can try to do is continue to promote ‘Made in Italy’ in the BRIC markets, in particular Russia and China. Especially making targeted actions dedicated to the smaller companies that are struggling more for position and market share because of their size than the larger Maisons.

industry professionals who come to Italy to work, is our way of life. The artistic / cultural heritage that we can boast is unique in the world. We live in an open-air museum. Milan from this point of view has so much to offer: monuments, museums, restaurants, shops, etc..

How much market share do countries such as Russia have in the system of contemporary fashion?

If I were to recommend how to spend one day in Milan to a tourist I would suggest that they start by visiting one of the museums, so-called “minor”, in Milan that are real jewels, only less well known. They are the Poldi Pezzoli Museum and the Museum Bagatti Valsecchi Palazzo Morando which always offers very interesting exhibits. Then I would continue with a breakfast in one of the historic restaurants of Milan, like the Boeucc or the Trattoria della Brisa, to taste the typical dishes in the culinary traditions of Milan.

Russia is an absolutely strategic country for the ‘Made in Italy’ label, both for our exports and for purchases that are made in our shopping centers and streets by Russian consumers. It’s no coincidence that Russia is the first place among the BRIC countries, followed closely by China, which may in time overcome it.

How do you feel about Milan and why?

I like Milan very much. I find that Milan is a wedding favor of excellence, it is refined and elegant. In general I think it is a city that is very much appreciated by the international audience. However, it is certain that it cannot be compared dimensionally to London and Paris, which are capital, or even with New York which is more than a capital city.

What is most appreciated by tourists and

What are your three tips for experiences to have in the city for those visiting for a short period of time?

Finally, I would conclude the day in the park. Strolling in one of the beautiful parks of Milan like Sempione Park to enjoy the spectacle of the Sforzesco Castle at sunset, or the lovely gardens of Palestro in the evening is the perfect way to finish a day trip.

What needs to be done to help the ‘Made in Italy’ image?

THE NAVIGLI CANALS The Navigli was a very ancient system of navigable and interconnected canals around Milan. The system consisted of five canals (Naviglio Grande, Naviglio Pavese, Naviglio Martesana etc.) used for irrigation and now for tourism. The Navigli district, to the south of the city, is famous for their night life and vintage shops.

This is one of the best places to explore Milan’s nightlife. Clubs, bars, and cafès, there is something for everyone.

or the new film Scarlett Johansson, who was recently applauded at the Rome Film Festival (08/17/11), drove for several weeks around Glasgow trying to have sex with random locals without anyone reporting her. The Scottish men who Johansson picked up on the street, following the instructions of her director Jonathan Glazer, were real people who had no idea they were being filmed or playing by the side of the famous actress.

How did it work?

I guess no one expected that I would show up in Glasgow driving a van and asking for directions. It might have been my outfit – dark wing, a fur coat – which kept me unknown. The scenes were filmed with the hidden cameras. Once when I fell down on the street and people picked me up, no one even knew that they were being

filmed. However, a couple of guys suspected by asking if I am in movies. But the most demanding was the fact that we were not able to control the situation by filming in this way.

What was the most challenging for you?

The nude scenes. I am not a nudist and I felt like all the time I was judging myself. But no one was interested in this side of me on set or looked for a physical flaw; all they needed was my performance. That is why I had to let it go and concentrate myself on acting.

Weren’t you bothered by the fact of playing an alien?

At f irst I indeed had diff iculties to def ine my character. But every day I discovered a new side of it and slowly the small pieces were coming together. At the end I worked on that role in the same way I usually work on every other.

THE ONLY PRESSURE I AM UNDER IS TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING, TO ON TIME FOR WORK, AND TO KNOW MY NEXT LINES How much pressure do you feel when you are performing for famous directors?

Indeed it adds adrenaline! When I stood in front of the camera for Woody Allen I was afraid to fail and I think I even spluttered when we shot the first scenes of “Match Point”. I remember Allen shouted at me “What the hell are you doing here! Pull yourself together!”

And I started to cope anxiously.

You work on several films during a year.

Doesn’t that exhaust you?

Yes. Working on movies is connected with the lot of pressure, often not only emotional but also physical. Sometimes I work more than 14 hours a day, sometimes I need special training.

For example for the movie “The Island” I started with athletics and one day jogged 30 km. However work helps against idleness and narcissism (she smiles). It costs a lot of energy

but at the same time it feels like a drug which you cannot give up. The happiest moments in my life are those when I hear directors saying “Stop. Cut. Great, Scarlett!”

You are often being defined as a sex symbol. How flattering is that?

I think there is nothing wrong being sexy. I do sometimes look in the mirror to check if my hair or dress is right and I do like my own reflection in it. Probably one affects the other. But I do not define myself as Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo or Marlen Dietrich which I am being compared with.

Before I got the role in Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation” I had to survive with small roles and no one bothered to call me Marilyn. Only after my table started to be overcrowded with the scripts and proposals everyone suddenly paid attention.

Maybe it’s time to think about a bodyguard?

It’s never a good time for that. I want to shop and walk the streets in peace. Moreover, I want to swallow my sandwich without some frightening guy in leather and glasses watching me.

About sandwiches … You’re not really a fan of strong diets, are you?

I like to eat and I think the nice curves make up the woman. However, I became careful with the fast food after I watched the movie of Morgan Spurlock “Super Size me”.

What can put you under pressure?

The only pressure I am under is to wake up in the morning, to be on time for work, and to know my next lines. I am an actress, not a symbol or an icon.

Another genuinely Russian fur – caracul – is extremely popular this season. Only a couple of years ago it was purely associated with a grandmother’s caracul hat from the Soviet Union, but today this velvet fur is the trendiest material. And if earlier it was black only, today caracul is sparkling with all possible colors in designers’ hands.

It is used to sew cloaks and scarves, hats and Cossack hats, suits, jackets, coats, skirts and so on.

For example, designers of the French brand Vionnet chose not to be limited to traditional fur clothes, but to try

on caracultcha dresses. Caracul is dominating the shows of Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren. Fall-winter 20132014 collections are seeing different kinds of caracul. One of them, that looks like a crumbly cloth, became the symbol of the new retro, like in Carolina Herrera’s collection. Jean-Paul Gaultier used the elite silver shade to create theatrical-futuristic looks.

The presence of fur clothes this season lets your imagination run away with you. It doesn’t matter if you choose a fur coat, a dress, a bag or a neckpiece following the fashion. Most importantly is that not only should your body feel the warmth, but your soul as well.

THE WORLD OF KRIZIA Mariuccia Mandelli is the soul of the Krizia project. Since 1950, in Milan, she lead the design and manufacturing of women’s handbags, clothing, footwear and perfumes INTERVIEW: Valerio VENTURI

There are few women who were able to make a name in fashion. How did it start, and especially when did you realized that things were going so well?

I started following the high fashion.

I realized that it was necessary to simplify and clean up the image of women.

rizia is a Bergamo-based Italian fashion and lifestyle brand that has been around since 1950. The company was founded by designer Mariuccia Mandelli and her husband Aldo Pinto who is heading the Operations department and manages the commercial structure of the company. The brand specializes in ladies-wear and menswear, knitwear, handbags, accessories, glasses, ties, and since the 1980s, perfumes.

My colleague and friend, Flora Dolci, and I began with simple skirts that I wore myself and that I carried around all over Italy, choosing those shops that seemed “right” and those that I liked for the image and for what they represented in the various cities.

Slowly we tried clothes and shirts, always following a minimalist idea, until I found myself back in ‘54 with a premiere and a small group of workers.

From there it all started; the SAMIA in Turin, the meeting with Walter Albini in Paris, until the recognition in ‘64, in Florence, during the Pitti, where they gave me the prize “Criticism of Fashion.” I still remember the uproar that was aroused, an outsider like me had managed to win a coveted prize, so much so that the following year the award was eliminated. I never gave weight to the success and I continued to work following my instincts. I think this is the key.

Where do you get the inspiration for the Krizia collection?

Always something comes to my mind - it seems provocative but so it is.

This gives rise to a concept of beauty that can be found in art, in music, in everyday life or in one trip. Always be curious, as I am, and do not think too much about finding the inspiration. It’s when you try that it never comes.

Who is the Krizia woman?

It would be false to say that I create fashion that does not represent me, but really I think mostly a typical woman, a free woman who is able to have fun with what she wears.

I’ve never had female models or icons in my way. I do not have to create an ideal of a woman locked in aesthetic parameters, in quotation marks for this standard.

And, in fact, I have no problem saying

that I was the f irst to think of a line for women rounder, a line that still has success at a distance of many years.

Unfortunately, today there is too much approval, you try to be trendy as well, but really I think that when you try this you are likely to be out of fashion.

What do you think about ‘Made in Italy’? What is the relation with Russia and others “BRIC” countries?

‘Made in Italy’ is always a guarantee of quality and reliability. I think the world situation is complicated at the moment, even if there are historical phases that are sometimes diff icult to read.

Russia is a country that I love deeply. I still remember the reception meted out to me the f irst time I was invited.

I was fascinated.

A country rich in history and artistic beauty to which I was inspired to create many of

my collections. I love the innovative ideas that come from new emerging countries, and I love the high regard they have for our fashion. I hope to consolidate their presence.

What is your relationship with Milan?

How has the city changed over time?

Milan is a city I love. It has welcomed me and given me great possibilities. I think it’s a beautiful city to discover the inner courtyards, private gardens and beautiful old buildings.

It has changed a lot in recent years and there have been times when I did not recognize it anymore.

Lately, I’ve seen great improvements, even though you still need to keep working.

I think it’s clear that my principle has always been to work hard to achieve and continue to improve. Many young people think to succeed by special paths but in the end only commitment and dedication lead to lasting results.

We loved Marni, who amazed us with the slender silhouettes and volumes of ruffles that created three-dimensional flowers. Dolce & Gabbana entertained us, maintaining its own allure with preferences to Sicily and the fifties, but with a touch of ancient Greece. Antique gold coins and branches of almond trees in bloom adorned the clothes.

The f irst catwalk for Fausto Puglisi was inspired by a rock look with prints and embroidered gold. Gucci combined Art Decò prints on sportswear with metallic glints from fabrics or paillettes, with bra in view.

After years away, the women’s collection

by Costume National come back to Milan with optical graphics and irregular cuts.

The Trussardi woman is a dynamic traveler; while Max Mara differs for its pure and essential lines, with soft fabrics being very versatile.

Meissen has three centuries of history behind the brand. Can you tell us about your important past?

Indeed, Meissen was established in 1710, over 300 years ago, by King Augustus the Strong.

Since then it has evolved from Europe’s first porcelain manufacturer into an international luxury group. During these centuries, the company has survived 11 wars and coped with 7 different political systems. The biggest change was initiated 5 years ago, when the new management started to foster the transformation of the company into an Italo-German house of fine arts and handcrafted luxury - the Maison Meissen Couture.

Which keywords characterize your brand?

Royal, heritage, elegance, legendary quality, passion and - not to forget - f ine art with unsurpassed value appreciated by global collectors.

Your “Italian story” started recently at Salone del Mobile. What were your reasons for opening a showroom in Milan, Italy?

In fact our “Italian history” began 300 years ago, when Meissen founder King Augustus the Strong discovered his passion for art

in Italy. It continued in the 19th century, when an Italian general manager, Marcolini, had the direction of the company. While the manufacturing in Germany remained the center of production for high-quality porcelain it was clear from the very start for the new management that they needed to go back to the beginnings of the

What reception have you receive from Russia?

For centuries Russia and Meissen have been in very close interactions.

Our porcelain manufacturer in Germany has already created many objects for Katharina, for example.

Our experience is that our Russian friends know perfectly that Meissen is much more than design - it is a world of culture.

Apart from unique selected items, there are lines signed

by Meissen. What is new and connotative?

We have over 300 years of experience but we try to surprise our customers with many new creations a year. Such as our new collection of silk accessories which were inspired by original designs from our 4 century-old archive.

People love our new porcelain tableware collection, named Cosmopolitan, which is covered by 24 ct. gold and platinum.

Your place is artistically important. What is it’s story?

What do you propose for your clients in Montenapoleone boutique?

We decided to locate our European flagship house - we call it the Meissen Couture Villa - in the heart of Milan. We were lucky to find a perfect place which was originally built in the 16th century and redesigned it in a way so that our guests can experience the whole luxury lifestyle of Meissen ranging from our fine jewelry collections, over to the couture and accessory collections all the way to the Meissen Couture

Indeed, our villa shows traits of Roman times, beautiful artistic ceilings that were hand-painted

by Raphael’s best student and even classically-modern design such as the entrance that was designed by the famous architect Giò Ponti. That is why it appealed to us as the perfect place to locate a brand whose heart is centered on fine arts.

King Augustus was passionate for luxury and art and truly had a cosmopolitan perspective. He was dreaming of impressing the royal courts in France, England and abroad by creating uniquely beautiful objects. Today we are working on this mission. The next stage of our evolution will become visible next year, when we will release a true fireworks of innovations at Baselworld, Maison et Object and of course for the Fashion Week. One thing is for sure, we have a very long tradition, but we will never be a boring brand that is only looking back. We are ready to conquer the future.

Your store is also a meeting place?

In fact it intentionally presents itself more like a private house than like an ordinary boutique.

Our brand is not targeting the masses, we are relevant to individual customers that are looking for the unique and different. It is experiential luxury that matters for us and not volumes.

My style. I consider it a bit “rock chic” but with a vintage shade. It is always in evolution, because everyday I like to f ind something curious and new to add.

Chloé has always been one of my fav brands: my f irst item of its collections, belonged to my grandmother, a faboulous tunic which I inherited! Talking about Italian brands, I love Brunello Cucinelli, it’s so chic, and talking about US brand, I like Rag and Bone.

My approach to vintage clothes and accessories. I must def ine myself a “vintage girl”: f lea markets, auctions and second hand shops are in my D N A. Vintage clothes and accessories (oohh those beautiful glamorous bags!!!) have a soul by itself, a spirit, a personality so unique that

Inspiration for my outf its comes from everywhere, just on the street while walking the dog or jogging in the park, travelling around the world or following the mood I wake up with.

In 1632, Count Carlo III of the influential House of Borromeo began the construction of the monumental Baroque palace and the majestic and scenic gardens, which have made the island famous and which to this day bear witness to the splendours of an era. Until 1632 the island was a rocky crag occupied by a tiny fishing village: but that year, Carlo III began the construction of a Palazzo dedicated to his wife, Isabella D’Adda, from whom the island takes its name. The Borromeo family home offers visitors an elegant and sumptuous setting, and it contains priceless works of art such as tapestries, furniture, statues, paintings, and stuccoes. It also has an unusual mosaic grotto, a cool and delightful place. Once you have visited the palace, there is access to the garden afor a pleasant walk. Isola Bella has always belonged to the Borromeos, the ancient Italian family still makes the headlines today. The fashion shoot of these pages, as you will read, was produced in Isola Bella, an island that is located on Lake Maggiore in Stresa Borromeo Gulf, the Borromean archipelago. Everything here was built by the Borromeo family: castles, palaces, gardens ...

The Borromeos are one of the families that have made history in Italy since 1200, when they had just arrived from Rome and were referred to as “Good Romei “, good Romans. The Borromeos have also been a part of the history of the Catholic Church. The family boasts many cardinals and bishops among their ancestors, with two saints among them: Santa Giustina of Padua, who was martyred under the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and St. Charles Borromeo, archbishop of Milan, who his contemporaries gave him the nickname of “chaste”.

Unlike many noble families who have lapsed in prominence, the Borromeos are still rich and powerful. Their possessions remain practically identical to those they held in 1600, when the palace of Isola Bella was built.

This is where the daughters of the Borromeo family marry. It’s a family tradition. The latest generation is made of four sisters.

The halls of the palace Isola Bella have witnessed the weddings of three of the sisters. The palace is awaiting the nuptials of the sister Beatrice, daughter of Paola Marzotto and Carlo Borromeo. Beatrice is a journalist for the newspaper “The Daily” and the girlfriend of Pierre Casiraghi, son of Princess Caroline of Monaco.

Lavinia Borromeo married the President of Fiat, John Elkann, with a wonderful celebration that is still being talked about.

Isabella is the wife of Ugo Maria Brachetti Peretti, owner of API, Italian oil and energy companies. Matilda married Prince Antonius von Fürstenberg.

An ancestor of the famous young Cardinal Federico Borromeo, archbishop of Milan from 1595, was one of the protagonists of “ The Betrothed “ by Alessandro Manzoni, the famous nineteenth-century writer.

The history of the Borromeo’s is long and important. The family coat of arms is engraved with the word “ Humilitas”, which in Latin means humility. A motto for living, trying to make things better with the grace of modesty.

One of the most important habits for our well-being is, of course, a daily physical activity that is well-balanced with our needs. Always keep moving, even while traveling, it helps to maintain a healthy and slim body, reduces stress and weight gain, improves circulation, and the release of endorphins. For this we can take with us some comfortable elastic bands that have differing resistances depending on the color.

FOR HOTEL ROOM

SIMPLE EXERCISES YOU CAN FOLLOW IN YOUR SUITE. Using elastic bands strung beneath your feet, standing up, we can train the biceps and triceps of the arms. Putting ourselves in the position of pushups , simply maintaining this position for 20 seconds, this is a very powerful stance.

Train your core using the lap belt, you need to maintain your posture. By lying belly up to the ceiling with your legs bent you can strengthen your abs. You can, using a simple chair, perform the squat. This is excellent to help maintain toned buttocks and legs.

With your hands at your waist, from a standing position, sit down on the chair and as soon as you touch the chair with your glutes press your feet and heels down into the floor and stand back upright. We can perform these simple squats with or without a chair.

All exercises should be performed with precision and slow motion for maximum benefit. Perform each one of these exercises for at least 15-20 repetitions in sets of, at least, 3-4 rounds.

This fall both the classic ideal contoured lips and a demure look are in trend. You can use different shades of lipstick, from girlish pink to dramatic grape. A classic red is certainly unrivaled.

Let’s consider evening makeup with an emphasis on the lips.

For any kind of makeup you should start with thorough preparation of your skin, it should look perfect.

Our model has wonderful skin so I just used BB-cream by the Korean brand Missha. I gave the cheeks a slight blush using silky Coralista Ultra Blush by Benefit. To make the skin look natural I used a powder highlighter by M.A.C.

I put the same Honey Rose highlighter by M.A.C. under the eyebrow and in the corners of the eyes. After applying mascara I turned to the lips. You can use a pencil when applying lip makeup, it gives a clearly defined contour. If your lipstick has long-lasting and saturated pigment you can do without a pencil. First of all you apply foundation to the lips. In this case it’s BB cream.

I used a Sephora liquid lipstick. It has a matte finish and stays on the lips perfectly. The main secret of makeup is the neatness and thoroughness in every detail.

When doing such an intense lip makeup neutral eyes are desirable. Nevertheless, use eyeliner to work color into top lash lines. I made a thin eye-lash-line with a short tail brush as close to lashes as it was possible with a beveled brush and a brown cream eyeliner by Tony Moly. At the end I applied a bit of mascara. Voila! The makeup is ready.

I made an emphasis on the lips and decided to make them not only bright, but also more voluptuous. To get this result I outlined the upper lip with M.A.C pearl lip liner. I just outlined the rim, it makes the lips look a bit brighter and gives them some volume.

The result is bright, catchy and elegant all at the same time. This is the best look for an evening out. The chosen shade of lipstick emphasizes the beautiful eyes and hair color of the model.

Where do you take inspiration for the image of women you create?

y becoming a make up artist in Tel Aviv, Einat Dan, chose to follow her dream. Today after 19 years of travelling all over the world and experiencing the fashion capitals; such as New York, Milan and Berlin, Einat is a leading makeup artist in the industry of fashion, beauty and body painting. Notably, she is also the founder of a cosmetics brand MIA, and has won numerous makeup artists awards.

Which personal and professional qualities have helped you to achieve success?

I’m a makeup artist for 19 years in general, but as a fashion makeup artist I started 10 years ago. Makeup is my passion. Every job for me feels like excitement. I’m full of ambition and I have wishes and dreams all the time. I think my passion, motivation and my professional way of leading my career created my success. I’m also a hard worker, and I believe that when you really work hard you get what you deserve and dreams can come true.

What would you suggest to women to enhance their individuality with makeup?

Each woman has a unique look. The important thing is for women to use the correct makeup products and techniques.

They shouldn’t exagerate it. The makeup has to bring out your beauty, so don’t use too much product or too many colors.

Remember that less is more. It’s def initely not the quantity but the quality.

I’m an artist. I can be inspired by everything: films, posters, painting, weather, cloth, fabrics, designers, etc..

My mind is always working and always creating. I produce my ideas and my art, it just comes from my inside out and onto the face of my models. I get inspired very much by the model. I see her and I know what I would like to create. That’s why I always choose my models!

What do you like about Milan?

Milan is a nice city. I love the fashion and the style, especially how the men dress in Milan. But it’s fun for me to see all the designer’s shops. The fashion is everywhere. I also like the weather. The winter months are not so cold and it’s great just to walk around at this time of the year.

To feel good on the inside and outside try these safe, innovative treatments for the face, body, and those problematic cellulite areas with doctor Marcello Ruspi, one of the best specialists in Europe

Since 2005 I’ve treated thousand of women with cellulite. Thermage works, especially with specific techniques, and smoothes the tense fibers responsible for the dimples, washes out the inflammatory congestion of the micro-vessels, and reshapes the body. Sometimes we suggest to work on the weight, alimentary and pharmacological habits. The second procedure we use is SmoothShape, an FDA approved laserdevice. This is a very good procedure for young women with recent cellulite, it requires 8-12 sessions, 2 each week.

Is it possible in a short time to rejuvenate your face without plastic surgery?

I am a surgeon with extensive experience in this field, however, I prefer to use nonsurgical methods to rejuvenate the face and body with Thermage and Ulthera, which is an ultrasound focalized therapy. I introduced the Thermage procedure in Italy and since then I have gained the largest experience in Europe using this very sophisticated method which is authorized by the Ministry of Health in the USA (FDA).

I make this non-invasive procedure into a single one hour treatment. I was the first to use Thermage on people with fillers and on the body, attaining great success on flab-prone zones like the backs of the arms, abdomen, bottom, and inner thighs. Many of my patients travel to me from all over the world, for example from Russia, South Arabia and also the USA. We can obtain fine, great results, frequently better than using surgery, with no downtime, no surgery, and with the warranty of a safe and reversible authorized procedure.

The third procedure we use is Cellulaze, for women with very heavy cellulite, not targetable using Thermage. This very sophisticated device uses a laser fiber (cannula) inserted through the skin and uses three actions to achieve results: it targets dissolving the pockets of herniated fat, cuts the fibrous septae responsible for the dimples and finally it increases the skin elasticity by stimulating the collagen and reshaping the area. Cellulaze is a surgery, although minimal, and requires great experience, a dedicated surgical room, and blood exams before the procedural session. There is also

a local anesthesia. But the results are simply incredible! As of now I am the only surgeon qualified in Italy to perform the Cellulaze treatment.

What do you propose for women who have vascular problems?

As a vascular surgeon I am specifically trained to solve very problematic and critical arterial and venous diseases. Truly, the micro vessels of the legs (telangiectasia) are only an aesthetic blemish.

I treat these vessels with the classical sclerotherapy using the best instruments. The procedure is very quick, safe and painless. We can’t use this procedure in the summertime or with tanned skin. For the arterial and venous diseases I’m available for clinical issue and, just in case, for surgical therapy.

How often do you recommend a complete check up of the body?

In the Sanpietro Medical Center, in downtown Milan, there are more then 80 medical doctors. I am the Clinical Director of this center. As a Medical Center we specialize in all of the clinical and surgical sectors. Our newest activity is the Telemedicine. This involves giving our patients a very simple device which allows us to monitor their health conditions wherever they are.

Mr. Meregalli, tell us about your home.

We bought this house 19 years ago, the same age as our son Tommaso. We came home with the baby directly from the hospital! It was rebuilt with the contribution of Annabelle Seldorf, an American architect who helped us to redesign this space. We made a conservative restoration. The material, style, floors, wood ... it ‘s all original. I followed all the work and we have transformed this space. I feel we did a great job. We have worked very gradually.

What is your inspiration? Where have you bought the furniture?

We really like the design of northern Europe (Swedish, Danish) and normally we buy from our supplier, which is Selvini. The sofas we bought from the sale of a luxury hotel, as well fashionandbeauty . it

Wood, soft colors. A wonderful place to relax

as some chairs. Some others were made for us. The lights are from Fontana and other art pieces come from sell-offs of great hotels from the ‘20s. Some things were invented, drawing inspiration from things you see. The measures are different fulfilling individual needs. Slowly we have completed everything.

Is there something else remaining to be done?

Something is still missing, Tommaso’s room, for example. After 20 years there is still something to be finished. We’ll change some things, but the base is made. We are always looking for something new, absolutely. But it takes a lot of money to get things done well, and we have to proceed step by step. We’re going to start with Tommaso’s room first.

Could you tell us about some of the beautiful pictures in your home?

The pictures are collected over the years and from our trips.

Some photos, like those of the toad and goose, are from a Florentine photographer who was a friend of ours. Sadly he has passed away. The Steven Meisel picture of Linda Evangelista we bought for charity.

What about the paintings?

The paintings are made by artists that we’ve follow for years. On the floor there are reproductions of the drawings of a primitive people of Mali called the Dogon.

What was the inspiration for your store’s design?

For our shop Isabella had seen Doris Salcedo exhibition. She makes special designs and we have created the décor of the store from there. We brought furniture that we then cut, modified, and combined into the finished result. I installed the lighting and the decor of the shop.

THE DESIGN OF A SPACE IS A CONTINUOUS WORK IN PROGRESS

Did you study interior design?

The experience taught me a lot, but I have not studied interior design. I have good craftsmen, like a carpenter from Cantù, which is the best place in the world for this kind of workmanship. The choice of materials and working with employees who know how to interpret what you ask for is vital. Everything is important. It’s a real job but I’ve always liked it.

Tell us about yours atelier “Isabella Tonchi”.

We started with the shop in 2003. Isabella takes care of the creative part and does consulting for companies like Max Mara, which allows the necessary financial revenue for our brand.

She has always worked for many big brands, starting 18 years ago with Fiorucci, Miu Miu, Versace, Calvin Klein, Gigli. Then we started this adventure. It really brings personal satisfaction to do what one feels is his own. fashionandbeauty . it

750 exhibitors, 180.000 square metres display area, 100.000 of which on water, around 115.000 visitors, 550 meetings for professionals, 14 conferences and more than 1.200 “test drives”: these are the figures which describe the 2013 edition of the show dedicated to lovers and vendors of boats, organized on October 2nd-6th by Fiera di Genova and Ucina.

largest boat yet produced by its brand, Ferretti Yachts: the Ferretti 960. Designed by Giovanni Zuccon, it is a 29,20 metres long boat that meets CE design, so it can be considered a leisure craft with no need for a professional captain.

The Austrian shipyard Frauscher presented an 8,67 metres open motorboat (Frauscher 858), with the creative contributions of Harry Miesbauer and Kiska Design. Other products proposed at the show were the 86, the flagship of Montecarlo Yacht, and Permare Amer Cento, the 30 metres flagship of the San Remo shipyard. Made in Italy are also Portofino Fly 57 by the Lavagna shipyard Portofino Marina, and Capelli Tempest 44, a 13 metres top-performance cruiser.

THE SAI LING WORLD AT THE SALON Many novelties from The Sailing World have been presented at the exhibition. Beneteau introduced a new concept of interior modules with Oceanis 38. It is possible to choose between the open space Daysailer version, the better equipped Weekend version, or the fully equipped Cruiser version for longer cruises. Another new boat from Beneteau is Sense 46, winner of the BMW Asia Boating Award 2013, elected “best production sailing up to 15 meters”.

Bavaria, from Germany, exhibited new models as well, expanding its cruiser range with the 46 (13,6m), the result of a collaboration between the New Zealand studio Farr Design and the British studio Design Unlimited. Another German

group, Hanse, proposed Hanse 505 (15,54m), designed for comfortable cruising, and the smaller Dehler 38, both from Judel Vrolijk studio.

The Boat Show also hosted also the Dufour 410 from the Grand Large range, designed by Umberto Felci.

JUAN LEMA Carrots can be eaten in a variety of ways; they may be chopped and boiled, fried or steamed, and cooked in soups and stews, as well as baby and pet foods. A well-known dish is carrots julienne.

Together with onion and celery, carrots are one of the primary vegetables used in a mirepoix to make various broths. In our Trattoria we use it for the preparation of our Risotto Cake, a special dish created by chef Juan Lema.

For the rice cake: Begin by frying the chopped onion in a bit of olive oil.

Add rice to the sauteed onions and toast the rice for 3 minutes, deglaze with white wine and then add broth.

After 10 minutes add the steamed, diced beets. At the end of cooking, stir in butter and Parmesan cheese.

Salt and pepper to taste.

For the fondue: Fry the carrots that are cut into julienne strips with chopped onion and olive oil. Slowly add the broth and simmer for about 10 minutes. When cooked, turn off the heat and add the cream. Blend all the ingredients and arrange on a serving plate. For the ricotta mousse: Mix ricotta cheese, olive oil, salt and pepper together. Lay the cheese over the rice cake. Serve the rice on top of the cream of carrot and add a scoop of ricotta mousse. Enjoy!

On the heels of the Belle Epoque period, in 1936, two master confectioners who had honed their art in Paris and Milan Offellerie decided to open a bakery within walking distance of the theatre “La Scala”. Its delicate flavor opens in different ways, depending on the dish’s temperature. And if you’re lucky enough to find the truffle yourself, eat it just like that, with just a pinch of salt, a white truffle - raw, and a black one - boiled in plain water.

FILMS ON VENICE’S CANALS The world’s oldest film festival celebrates its 70th anniversary with a great selection TEXT: Tatiana ROSENSTEIN to arrange the program. The festival was opened and closed with 3D f ilms, as well as, two documentaries announced in the main competition. Twenty f ilms – three less than last year – competed for the main festival trophy “The Golden Lion” and the nominations have caused real surprise.

The prize for the best f ilm went to a documentary, “Sacro GRA” of Gianfranco Rosi, about life along the highway that circles Rome.

hen the artistic director Alberto Barbera announced his interest in inviting less stars to Venice this year but instead to focus on the quality of the films, festival-goers started worrying about the destiny of the world’s oldest film festival, which celebrated its 70th edition this year.

“Cinema mirrors reality, so we can’t complain if auteur f ilms today gives us an image of our times that is not consoling”, said Barbera. This time he took more risk

It is the first time that an Italian film has won the top prize in Venice in 15 years, when last Gianni Amelio became a “Lion” for “The Way We Laughed” in 1998. The local press reported with excitement about the Renaissance of the Italian cinema and the come back of the Fellini-era. Indeed, the genre of storytelling by Rosi is a nod to Italo Calvino’s post modern pen and Federico Fellini’s romantic portrayal of the same road in his epic “Roma” (1972), these facts seemed to be especially appreciated by the Jury president Bernardo Bertolucci. The Oscar-winning director initially did not want to head the Jury, confessing this engagement will tire him, but the 73-year-old was “caved in” by Barbera, who wrote him a letter in which he “succeeded to present some responsibilities”. “After the festival I will return to Rome and burn that letter” warned Bertolucci. In fact, Bertolucci – a passionate believer in “cinema which cannot change the world, but can create one” – gladly participated in the anniversary edition.

His signature of the brave choice continued when unknown Greek filmmaker Alexandros Avranas became the “Silver Lion” as the best director for “Miss Violence”. He presented a disturbing look at sexual violence and abuse perpetrated by a grandfather, played

by Themis Panou, who won “Volpi Cup” as best actor. “Best actress” went to Elena Cotta, the only cast of Emma Dante’s “A Street in Palermo”. Cotta, a well-known Italian theater actress who is more used to performing Shakespeare on stage, seemed to choose this project because of Emma Dante who is a theater director and who has just debuted this year into the cinema.

The Grand Jury Prize went to Tsai Mingliang’s “Stray Dogs” who announced the end of his filmmaking career with the recent project about a father and two kids living on the margins of modern-day Taipei. The Asian director became famous in Venice, after he won the “Golden Lion” in 1994 for “Vive L’amour”. The US-newcomer Tye Sheridan (16), who has participated in just three feature films, which included however, working in the company of Terrence Malick, beside Shean Pean, Matthew Mcconaughey

L’Uomo Vogue party in Venice, in conjunction with the start of the film festival, was an unique opportunity that saw the presentation of the exclusive preview trailer of the latest work by Marina Abramovic, the documentary: James Franco, the last unicorn, which sees precisely the actor protagonist of the film. On the 18th of September, during the Milan Fashion Week, Katie Grand and Hogan celebrated their third collaboration with a party at La Società del Giardino in Milan. The Fashion&Beauty launch presentation was hosted

by Biblioteca della Moda, in collaboration with Milano Fashion Media, on the 15th of October.

Many guests attended the event and were welcomed by Valerio Venturi along with Marina Bugranova. The guests also enjoyed a buffet specially created for the occasion that comprised exclusively of delicious Russian delicacies.
