What to do Kolacky Day - Annual celebration held the last full weekend in July to celebrate Montgomery’s Czechoslovakian heritage and culture. It’s named for the small, roll-like pastry filled with a variety of fruits or poppy seeds. Enjoy colorful Czech dancers, Czech craft village, queen pageant, truck & tractor pull; classic car show; softball, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments; kiddie parade; kolacky eating and baking contests; wine tasting; Bun Run foot race; Tour de Bun bike classic; and plenty of polka music. Torchlight Parade and Fireworks - Lights and music fill the air as the parade, held the Thursday after Thanksgiving, winds its way through downtown. The smell of kettle corn abounds at the end of the route where the fireworks begin. Set to holiday music, the display is a spectacular way to end the evening. The 4rd annual Czech May Day “Prvni Maj” - celebration will be held on May 3. The festival welcomes spring with authentic Czech foods, desserts, pivo, horse-drawn wagon rides, and polka music. A traditional raising of the Maypole, a 50foot pine tree, is the highlight of the day. Join in the traditional ribbon dances where colorful ribbons are intertwined by dancers around the Maypole itself. City Parks - Memorial Park is home to a renovated baseball stadium as well as volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and trailhead for the SnoWizards Snowmobile Club trail. Northside and Westside parks boast updated softball fields, picnic areas and playgrounds. Veterans Memorial Park honors those who served our country and is a place for reflection. Newest park is Heritage Park, located on the corner of Vine and First Street, site of the May Day celebration.
