What to do Kolacky Day - Annual celebration held the last full weekend in July to celebrate Montgomery’s Czechoslovakian heritage and culture. It’s named for the small, roll-like pastry filled with a variety of fruits or poppy seeds. Enjoy colorful Czech dancers, Czech craft village, queen pageant, truck & tractor pull; classic car show; softball, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments; kiddie parade; kolacky eating and baking contests; wine tasting; Bun Run foot race; Tour de Bun bike classic; and plenty of polka music. T orchlight Parade and Fireworks - Lights and music fill the air as the parade, held the Thursday after Thanksgiving, winds its way through downtown. The smell of kettle corn abounds at the end of the route where the fireworks begin. Set to holiday music, the display is a spectacular way to end the evening. Visit montgomerymn.org/torchlight-parade-fireworks. Masopust - Czech Mardi Gras celebrated the weekend before Ash Wednesday. Masopust king reigns over the celebration where we say goodbye to meat. Activities include polka music, costume ball, silent auction, a traditional Masopust skit, and king coronation. Czech food is served. Visit montgomerymn.org/masopust. Ms. Czech Slovak Minnesota Pageant - The 2020 pageant, on April 18, will be the 32nd annual. Contestants of Czech, Slovak and/or Moravian descent compete for over $1,000 in cash and prizes and a chance to compete at the national pageant in Wilber NE in August. Visit missczechslovakmnpageant.org. The 4rd annual Czech May Day “Prvni Maj” - celebration will be held on May 3. The festival welcomes spring with authentic Czech foods, desserts, pivo, horse-drawn wagon rides, and polka music. A traditional raising of the Maypole, a 50- foot pine tree, is the highlight of the day. Join in the traditional ribbon dances where colorful ribbons are intertwined by dancers around the Maypole itself. City Parks - Memorial Park is home to a renovated baseball stadium as well as volleyball courts, horseshoe pits and trailhead for the SnoWizards Snowmobile Club trail. Northside and Westside parks boast updated softball fields, picnic areas and playgrounds. Veterans Memorial Park honors those who served our country and is a place for reflection. Newest park is Heritage Park, located on the corner of Vine and First Street, site of the May Day celebration. Boulevar d of Flags and Veterans memorials - Flags line Boulevard Avenue and First Avenue North. Boulevard Avenue from Hwy. 13 to First Street, is designated as Veterans Memorial Way. Tributes to hundreds of area veterans grace downtown storefronts and are displayed in Veterans Memorial Park. Franke’ s Kolacky Bakery - Montgomery’s oldest family business celebrating 105 years on June 4. Home of delicious baked goods of all kinds and world-famous Czech kolacky Montgomery National Golf Club - Open to the public. Championship course layout was the first design by popular golf architect Joel Goldstrand. Home of the world’s first guitar-shaped Olson guitar bunker, combining our passion for golf and music.
