Bites of Bread from Bob Forty days ago we began to prepare ourselves for this moment we call “Holy Week.” This week in the life of Christ we will witness Jesus making his final march to the cross. As Christians, we view this scene every year. We attend the special services, read the scriptures, understand the significance of new life. We relive the story annually to the point that it sometimes becomes stale and our emotions lose their ties to the powerful portrayal of the last week in Jesus’ life. The season of Lent is to Holy Week what John the Baptist is to Jesus: to prepare us for something very powerful and life giving. We visualize a man in the Gospels as one with great strength, courage and perseverance; one who didn’t give in to outside influences yet maintained the love and compassion to all people. We view this man as the Son of God and because of his relationship with God, he was able to
focus his attention on his ministry. Jesus’ ministry was powerful because he communicated with God, listened for direction and was obedient. He went where God sent him, even to places he didn’t want to go. From the beginning of Lent we have placed a special emphasis upon prayer. We have tried to raise the level of our communication with God. Some have chosen to do this through our prayer triads, while others have done this on their own. Hopefully, we too have listened for God’s direction and are willing to go where God would send us. May we also come to the point of saying, “Not what I will, but what you will.” A blessed Easter to all! God Bless, Pastor Bob

Baptism Celebrations Our Palm Sunday celebration was highlighted by the baptism of four people. Before and after the baptism, I have never seen anyone more excited about this new step in their faith. Jason Feary, who has been with us for some time was excited to share this day before his family and friends. Allen and Cassandra Lane-Butler also had family present to share in this special day. Jose Murillo has not been with us long but was excited about what baptism meant for his life of faith.

Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie
Ramblings from Riane
Jesus was always serving people. Even as he approached his final days on earth, he continued to bless and serve. Jesus taught by example. He wasn’t untouchable; He didn’t spend his days on a crate barking orders, condemning or preaching at people. Instead, his life was spent among the people, showing them, giving true testimonies of what to do and how to live. He taught us how to serve others by serving his disciples and others first. Sunday, March 29, was our Service Sunday and also Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. What a great opportunity for us to serve others as Jesus taught. Six kids and four adults gathered to make snack bags for our Helping Hands cupboard. We wrote loving messages on each sack, and then packed them with protein, fruit and water. We give these handy snack bags to hungry people who come to our church doors. As I was packing our cupboard with over 35 bags, I was overwhelmed with the amount of love drawn on each bag and the joy I witnessed as each bag was assembled. (And that joy didn’t come from a bunny with eggs.) This current supply of snacks may only last a short time, but the love expressed is never ending. What a way to start Holy Week! Thank you for all those who participated and to those who donated snacks. Hey, and if your child or grandchild was one of the Awesome Foursome that came to sing for the congregation, give them a hug and tell them “Great job!” because that was an awesome way to praise Jesus and share it with the congregation as well! Youth Playing Games in the Park Weakness – a word with a typically negative connotation and a source of insecurity. What if we shared our weaknesses as much as we discussed our strengths? What if we took pride in our weaknesses instead of feeling uncomfortable about them? 2 Corinthians 12:9 says: “Each time he said, My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” Now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. When we stop hiding our weaknesses and invite Christ to work within us, He can perfect our weaknesses and receive glory. Share some of those weaknesses with others and watch the power of Christ work to improve areas of our lives that need Him the most.
