We are being joined in our hosting duties by Keizer Christian Church. They are providing one full day of hosting. You have the opportunity to share your time and God’s love with these families in a variety of ways. Opportunities include Meal Hosts, Evening Hosts, and Overnight Hosts. Mark Ridings greatly appreciates help setting up for the families and taking down on Sunday morning. Please note: you will need to have taken the “Abuse Risk Reduction Training” and complete a background check to serve as a host. If you are unable to host but would like to help, we are also collecting donations for the food that will be provided for breakfast and the Day Center for the week. Detailed descriptions for the host tasks are available, as well as information on SIHN. May 10 is Mother’s Day and I would love to have something special for the Mothers. If you have a Mother’s Day idea, would like more information, or host descriptions, please contact Michelle Gorman.

Jennifer’s Cello Performance Major Senior Recital is Sunday, April 19, at 8:00 pm. It is being held at University of Oregon Beall Concert Hall in Eugene.
"Our Father which art in heaven...." These words begin the prayer most widely used by Christians around the world. As we near the completion of our worship series on Prayer, the Chancel Choir will present a beautiful cantata entitled "Our Father" (a Journey through the Lord's Prayer), written by Pepper Choplin. The presentation will include a musical and spoken reflection on each sentence in the prayer. Judy Dyer will be directing, with Marilyn Reischke at the piano, Barbara Holler as soloist, Bob Hanna presenting meditations, and Steve Reischke as the narrator. The whole church family is invited to be part of this “prayer refreshing” experience that gives a revitalized focus on the words Christ gave to us in Matthew 6:913.
Jennifer’s church family is cordially invited to attend her performance.
A Warm Welcome On March 22 Anita Richardson came forward during the 9:30 am service to transfer her membership to Salem First Christian Church. Anita has been worshipping with us for quite some time. She sometimes attends both the 8:30 am and the 11:00 am service since her husband, Gary, has been playing the drums with the Praise Service. On April 12 Arthur McNeil came forward during the 8:30 am service to transfer his membership. Arthur had been a member of Eugene First Christian Church and remembers one of our members from when they both worshipped there.

Congratulations Jesse Manzo I am so proud of and blessed by a wonderful son, Jesse. I met him in Portland on April 12 to watch him run in a 10K race. Out of a field of over 3,000 participants, he took 18th place overall! God has blessed him with his strength and love of running and I and his father, Jimmy, for such a wonderful son that though divorced, God gives us the wisdom to put his needs first and co-parent easily! Condolences Lucille Gubser passed away on April 8. Our prayers and sympathies go out to her sister, Bev Dezotell, and to the rest of Lucille’s family. Her memorial service is Saturday, May 2, at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary, with a reception at Lancaster Village.
Thank You I am so blessed by this Church, Friends and Family. To all who sent cards, provided meals and helped me navigate with a new right knee, I want to express my sincere thanks and blessings upon you all. Especially to Allison Pfaff who spent nights with me and to Sandra Gross who was my coach, spent days with me and drove me to all my appointments! Special thanks to my sister, Ferol Weyand, who provided meals and groceries. I continue my physical therapy and am working on the left knee that has given me grief. Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie
Ramblings from Riane
Teacher Appreciation is May 31. For the next few newsletters, I will highlight children’s ministry teachers and helpers. We are lucky to have such wonderful volunteers who take Jesus’ words to heart to nurture our children and to build our future church. (Volunteer opportunities always available!) Volunteer Spotlight: Preschool and Kindergarten Kim Otis loves teaching the kindergarten Sunday school class. Her joy is evident in her infectious smile. Unfortunately, her cancer treatment doesn’t always allow her to do what she loves. Please join the children and the teaching team as we pray for Kim to continue to stay strong and positive so she can beat this and return to her kids soon. We love you, Teacher Kim! Kim Resch has been loving our preschoolers for….. a REALLY long time. Her laughter can be heard down the hall on any given Sunday. Not only does she teach the younger ones the love of Jesus, but she lovingly teaches them to praise him in song and prayer as well. And she’s always ready to step in where needed. Thank you for sharing Jesus with the children, MRS. Kim. During the 11:00 hour, the kindergarten classroom is transformed into a Children’s Church room for ages 3-6 years. Peek into that room at about 11:30, and you will see a small circle of children intently watching Betty Charnholm act out a Bible story with wooden figurines. Betty is highly skilled at engaging the children in the story and encouraging them to participate with insightful answers. Teaching Children’s Church is just one of the many gifts Betty shares with the children. Please share your gratitude with these lovely ladies for the important work they do. This past week I had the opportunity to attend a conference in Kansas City put on by the Agriculture Future of America (AFA). While at this conference, I learned more than just technical knowledge about the animal health industry and professional development; I realized the power and impact our relationships with others truly have.

This idea translates into an important lesson or reminder for those developing their character, discovering their purpose, as well as building and maintaining relationships with friends, family members, and other people who may cross their path. As many of us know from experience, it is hard building relationships with those who have a questionable, untrustworthy character. As a young person is often tempted by peers, it is important to demonstrate to our youth what it means to have integrity and good character. It is easier to find the confidence to stand up for ourselves and our values when we see our mentors do the same. When we as individuals can define what characteristics are important to us that we want others to recognize, our purpose is more clearly defined. The youth and children of our church watch us interact with one another and strive to have personal relationships similar to those positively portrayed to them. It is easy to get caught up in the busy schedules many of us lead on a daily basis. There are friends we aren't as close to, neighbors we rarely see anymore, and co-workers we stopped having lunch with. In 1 Samuel 16:7, it mentions how the Lord examines our heart. Maybe we need to examine our own hearts and ask ourselves if they are truly invested in the relationships of those who are important to us. It's never too late to spend extra time with the family or reconnect with an old friend. Relationships are important. OK to Awesome Event Thank You What a wonderful event! A huge “thank you” to Le and Ann Snelling for coming and presenting such a wonderful program. Over 60 people attended the event. A sincere “thank you” to everyone who came and are looking to become the best of themselves. Of course, we can’t forget to thank Sue Moreland and Michelle Gorman for the great lunch that was prepared. The event was such a joy for everyone; the Chapel was filled with laughter and sincere growth.
