Uber Many of you might be thinking, “Uber? Well duh!” However, you’d be surprised at how many people who have never used it! And now it covers all the three countries that we do – Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE – we thought we’d cover it. You can order taxis anywhere, any time, using a Google Mapsstyle app. You can drop a pin to be collected from your location, and the taxis use the map to find you. You can even watch the taxis approach you on the map, so you know how far away they are, or if that have taken a wrong turn. If they do, the driver’s mobile number is there so you can call him. And finally, you register your credit card details so no cash changes hands. Uber is great – if you don’t have it, get it!
Google Keep Are you one of those people that seem to have endless Post-Its stuck on every surface of your workspace/ fridge/bathroom mirror? Google Keep (unfortunately just for Android) is just what you need. You can make Post-It-style notes (the colours are even the same) on your smartphone, and you can make notes in text, images, checklists, and even audio files. You can also link the notes to reminders on your calendar, which can sync with Google Calendar as well. Everything is backed up online too. It’s the ideal quick and easy organiser for a chaotic lifestyle.
WiFi File Transfer If you’re like us, and you often want to swap files from your smartphone to your laptop or vice versa, it can be a hassle digging out that USB cable every time. WiFi File Transfer is a very easy-to-use app that works by creating an interface with an IP address for your phone, which you can then access via the web browser on your PC or laptop. A real bonus is that you can then also view the images without having to download them, so you know exactly what you’re sharing. Speed depends on your WiFi strength, but in general we’ve found it to be very good.
