MISSMV AT PEXELS
What is home for you? A place where you have all your belongings and keep your most dear memories to go back to every night after work or a person (or even people or an animal)? I think it's a bit of both for me.
I like to have my bed, pillow and travel souvenirs waiting for me, but I guess I would find joy wherever my loved ones are. Living happily is a combination of a comfortable environment with our personal touches, as well as a lifestyle where well-being is prized. This month, we bring some of the latest trends showcased at Salone del Mobile.Milano to help you create stylish rooms for a nest filled with love and positive vibes.
Our fashion pages offer a glimpse into what to wear on the hottest days, and we're still talking about watches – we can't get enough of luxurious timekeepers.
The beauty spread is a combination of top-notch products, hair care and pampering time. I went for a body scrub and full-body massage at The Spa at Address, Address Beach Resort Bahrain, for a day of relaxation. After the spa, I enjoyed some sea view, which is always an uplift to my mood.
In my opinion, chasing well-being has everything to do with travelling. We had a memorable stay at Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace in Budapest, Hungary. If you're looking for spots to go on a solo adventure or enjoy quality time with your family, we've uncovered the best places to visit.
We experienced the unique cuisine offered at Sumosan, featuring Japanese staples with a twist – dishes that will linger on our palates for some time.
Our motoring discovery this month was the MINI Aceman SE. A stylish car that perfectly matches our OHLALA lifestyle.
On a side note, don't forget that happiness is a choice. Happy reading!

GO BIG OR GO HOME
We must confess that we have a thing or two for maximalism, and chunky accessories are our favourite way of adding extra flair to an outfit. Are you a fan of outthere details like us?

Etro’s bohemian (almost hippie) style is full of accessories composed of charms. This chain necklace could add an eye-catching detail to a simple white tee and jeans combo. Rings can also embrace the extravagant trend. This La DoubleJ piece will give your fingers a sunny vibe – the perfect complement to summer dresses.

If you want an edgy twist, a daring cuff will do the job. Saint Laurent has a collection of audacious bracelets in enamel, resin and metal for an artsy touch.

If you must choose one XL accessory for the season, go for earrings. These Chloé shell pendants are made in vintage gold brass and are embellished with dangling chains and synthetic pearls for a play with textures. Bikini season and jawdropping summer-inspired accessories, here we go!

Earrings that steal the scene. Designer Alessandro Michele took his maxi aesthetics into Valentino – the results are over-the-top outfits and accessories.

GIRLS WHO BRUNCH
There is nothing better than meeting up with your besties for fun and vibrant brunches around town. Colourful summer dresses, white trousers and wedges give the right attitude for stylish weekends of good food and energetic ambience.

CHLOÉ

RUFFLES GALORE
Embrace a romantic style for warm summer nights under the stars. Frills can be spotted in flowy dresses, the necklines of floaty blouses and tiered skirts. They give a boho touch for relaxing yet dressy looks.

CAROLINA HERRERA TOM

HOT WEATHER PREP
Summer tailoring gets a twist with suit jackets paired with long bermudas or flowy skirts. But the spin is not only on styling. Breathable fabrics and a touch of colour give the tone of an office-by-the-shore kind of vibe.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
Animal print is not going anywhere. Wild animals' coats still inspire the hot season wardrobe, from leopard spots and zebra stripes to snakeskin – let us hear you roar!

From arts & crafts to cooking classes, mini sports, spa-inspired fun, exclusive Abra boat hunts, and magical cinema days, this is summer is a one to never forget.
While the little ones explore, parents can unwind with a beach side lunch, indulge in spa treatments, or relax with the pools and day pass.

OUTDOORSY VIBES
Windbreaker jackets might be the lightweight cover you were looking for to fight the freezing air conditioning that most places blast during the hot weather. They are usually made of thin materials and add an edgy twist to your looks.

HOT PINK + CHOCOLATE
Vibrant shades of pink find their perfect match in dark hues of brown. The colour combo is an uncommon pairing that results in sophisticated outfits. While brown embraces the excitement of pink, the rose tone gets an upgraded boost from the earthy pigment – a marriage made in heaven.

For this month’s news roundup, we bring you nostalgic comebacks, colourful designs and unexpected collaborations from across the fashion world.

Inspired by Flowers
Spring at Highgrove has made its way onto fabric in Burberry’s new capsule collection, created in collaboration with British artist Helen Bullock. Inspired by the Kitchen Garden at the private residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the pieces feature colourful illustrations of wildflowers, poppies and buzzing bees, all drawn from Helen’s time spent exploring the garden’s arbours and fountains. The 28-piece collection includes menswear, womenswear and accessories crafted using certified wool, organic cotton and silk. It supports The King’s Foundation (the charity founded by His Majesty), which preserves Highgrove Gardens and promotes traditional craft skills. The campaign stars actors Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael and ọpệ Dìrísù. The capsule is a reflection of Burberry’s ongoing celebration of British heritage and its connection to nature and the Royal Warrant. This also marks the brand’s fourth collaboration with Highgrove.

The Cherry on Top
Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami are back for one last time, marking 20 years since their first collaboration. Chapter Three of their re-edition collection arrives just in time for summer, bringing with it the return of Murakami’s much-loved smiling cherry motif, the cheeky, candy-coloured character with a green stalk that played a big part in early 2000s fashion. This final drop, tied to Louis Vuitton’s 2025 Resort collection, includes over 70 pieces like bags, shoes, charms, scarves and even a cherry-adorned bicycle. Ranging from cherry-shaped heels on raffia mules to new Monogram pieces in a crisp white, showing off the cherries in glossy, 3D-printed glory. Embroidered denim, hand fans, deck chairs and several fun items complete the collection. Zendaya fronts the campaign once again, this time set against a backdrop of giant cherries on the Mediterranean coast, a fitting send-off for an iconic partnership.

Sunsets and Silhouettes
& Other Stories has announced an exciting collaboration with celebrated Londonbased designer Roksanda Ilinčić, who is known for her choice of bright colour palettes, sculptural designs and focus on feminine strength. Roksanda brings her signature style to a summery collection of clothing, shoes, accessories and beauty. Taking inspiration from the stunning shades of summer sunsets, the ensemble features flowy yet structured silhouettes, architectural lines and expressive colour blocking. It includes a red ruffled dress, an abstract brushstroke mulberry silk dress and a striking white suiting set. Her personal touches continue in accessories, such as oversized sun hats, pearl-accented jewellery, as well as lipstick and nail polish, which are curated to pair well with the garments. Footwear comes in two options: detailed and sculptured burgundy mules and high but pointy boots with angled heels in lilac or bronze patent leather.

FROM THE ARCHIVES
Tiffany & Co. revisits Jean Schlumberger’s 1957 Apollo design with new additions.

Tiffany & Co. has introduced new pieces from the Apollo by Tiffany collection, a continuation of Jean Schlumberger’s original designs first introduced in 1957. The collection takes its name from the Greek god Apollo and draws on the eternal power of the sun. The designer’s interpretation of this theme remains central to the new pieces, which build on his legacy of inventiveness and distinctive artistic vision.

Each piece in the collection is crafted in a combination of 18-carat yellow gold and platinum. The design is defined by sculptural rays that curve outward from a central point, evoking the look of solar flares. Pavé diamonds are artfully set into each design, with a mise-à-jour setting on the back that allows light to filter through, enhancing the stones’ brilliance and giving each piece its shimmer.
The new additions are available in both large and medium formats. The big pendant is made from yellow gold and platinum with pavé diamonds, while the medium pendant includes nearly five carats of diamonds and comes on an almost 45cm chain. The ring is offered in two sizes, where the large version carries the same visual design and the medium ring is set with more than four carats of pavé diamonds. In brooches, the large one is set with over six carats of diamonds, while the medium version contains more than four. The collection also includes medium ear clips, designed in yellow gold and platinum and featuring the diamonds used throughout the collection, totalling nearly six carats. These designs emphasise form as much as material, with a focus on the interplay between gold, platinum and light. Though updated, the pieces remain closely tied to the original Apollo clip from 1957, both in aesthetic and intent.

WHEN TIME TURNS
Decades on from its sporting debut, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso returns with new stories to tell.
For over nine decades, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso has embodied the harmony of design and engineering. Originally created in 1931 to endure the knocks of polo matches, its clever swivelling case became an instant classic. What began as a practical solution has since become a blank canvas for extraordinary creativity, and the 2025 lineup proves just how far that spirit can go. Among the latest releases this year, these four standout pieces capture the very best of craftsmanship and artistry that the Reverso collection has to offer.
REVERSO ONE ‘PRECIOUS COLOURS’
A playful interpretation of the Art Deco spirit, the Reverso One ‘Precious Colours’ is a visual delight with only 10 limited pieces available. The reverse side of the 18-carat white gold case is hand-painted with a mosaic-like pattern in soft tones of mauve, grey, pink and yellow, where each colour is fired layer by layer in enamel, a delicate process that takes 60 hours. Surrounding the case are 277 diamonds, bringing sparkle to every angle. On the front, a white mother-of-pearl dial is framed with diamonds. The watch is completed with a white alligator strap and interchangeable double folding buckle.
REVERSO
ONE ‘PRECIOUS FLOWERS’ – PURPLE ARUMS
Inspired by nature, the Purple Arums model brings flowers to life in enamel, diamonds and a manual wound calibre 846. Shades of purple, pink and green bloom across the back of the 18-carat pink gold case, created using a technique where each part of the design is filled with enamel and carefully fired in a kiln. Once complete, the entire floral design is brought to life with over 600 diamonds, set individually to create a shimmering surface that sparkles like dew on petals. With over 120 hours of focussed artistry, the piece is completed with a glossy purple alligator strap and the mother-of-pearl on the dial side.
REVERSO HYBRIS ARTISTICA CALIBRE 179
For those fascinated by mechanics and beauty in equal measure, the Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 is captivating. This rare creation features a spinning tourbillon (a small, rotating mechanism designed to improve timekeeping precision) that appears to float in mid-air. The front and back of the case are decorated in deep blue lacquer with geometric patterns inspired by Reverso’s original Art Deco style. The watch displays two time zones, one on each face, making it both highly functional and incredibly refined. With its blue alligator strap and complex inner workings, this is a piece for true connoisseurs.
REVERSO TRIBUTE MONOFACE SMALL SECONDS
For something more understated, the Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds offers a clean, vintage-inspired look. Made from 18-carat warm pink gold, it features a golden textured dial and a Milanese-style woven bracelet crafted from gold thread that is soft, flexible and beautifully intricate. The design harks back to the original Reverso of the 1930s, with a small seconds display and slim case that sits perfectly on the wrist. Made with a hand-wound Calibre 822, it’s a classic timepiece that comprises over 100 components and a 42 hour reserve.

Press PAUSE
Hermès revisits its Le temps suspendu with new interpretations across four timepieces.

Hermès continues to explore the idea of time as something flexible rather than fixed. Through its Le temps suspendu complication, first introduced in 2011, the maison invites wearers to step away from traditional timekeeping. This year, the function reappears in a refreshed Arceau model, which is introduced into the Hermès Cut line and is accompanied by two new designs under the Maillon Libre collection.
ARCEAU LE TEMPS SUSPENDU
A new take on the 2011 original, this updated Arceau model features a 42mm case in either white or rose gold and an openworked dial that reveals the Time Suspended module beneath. Designed by Henri d’Origny, the watch keeps the collection’s signature asymmetrical lugs and now comes in three dial colours: sunburst blue, brun désert and rouge sellier. Inside, it runs on the Manufacture Hermès H1837 self-winding movement, which is visible through a transparent caseback. The Time Suspended module adds a layer of complexity, using retrograde hour, minute and date hands that can be reset by a pusher, allowing the display to momentarily ‘step out’ of chronological time. Strap options include alligator leather in rouge sellier, matt étoupe and bleu abysse, as well as calfskin alternatives in Barénia black or Swift navy.
HERMÈS CUT LE TEMPS SUSPENDU
This is the first-ever Time Suspended function to appear in the Hermès Cut collection. Housed in a 39mm rose gold case with bold, sharp lines, the watch is powered by the H1912 self-winding movement. The dial, available in sunburst red-tinted or opaline silver-toned finishes, along with a diamond-studded edition, features Arabic numerals coated in Super-LumiNova, with a finely sandblasted centre and a distinctive 24-second counterclockwise running indicator. This complication is controlled by a pusher that lets the wearer suspend the display of time. The interchangeable bracelet system includes satin-brushed rose gold or a chalk-coloured rubber strap.
MAILLON LIBRE WRISTWATCH
The Maillon Libre wristwatch reimagines Hermès’ iconic anchor chain as a piece of high jewellery. Its structure is fluid and sculptural, available in either white or rose gold, and features a discreetly integrated time display. The dial is set in polished gold or matt onyx, with terracotta tourmaline or diamond centre stones. Baton-type hands are made of polished gilded or rhodium-plated brass. The quartz movement is set using a correction tool and, depending on the model and bracelet size, the piece is adorned with between 230 and 336 brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds, enhancing its visual complexity.
MAILLON LIBRE BROOCH WATCH
This piece draws inspiration from one of the oldest masculine accessories, the brooch watch. Hermès offers a version that can be worn on its own or transformed into a pendant using a leather cordlet. The anchor chainshaped case measures 35mm by 23mm and comes in polished rose or white gold, set with 21 brilliant- and baguette-cut diamonds. The rose gold version features cushion-shaped terracotta tourmaline, while the white gold has indicolite tourmaline. Like the wristwatch, this brooch model uses a quartz movement and only tells the hours and minutes.

Refresh ON THE GO
CHANEL extends its red camellia story with a new addition to the N°1 line, a revitalising serum in mist designed for instant skincare.
CHANEL continues its exploration of red camellia’s potent properties with the launch of its N°1 DE CHANEL Serum in Mist, a lightweight bi-phase formula designed to refresh and revitalise skin throughout the day. Compact and sleek, this serum in mist is formulated with the red camellia, a flower known for its remarkable longevity, capable of living up to 200 years. Its extract, rich in protocatechuic acid, has been shown to boost skin vitality mechanisms and enhance its ability to defend itself against oxidative stress. Camellia leaf buds are also included in the formulation for their soothing properties.
Housed in a vibrant red, travel-friendly bottle, the Serum in Mist was created with on-the-go lifestyles in mind. Whether you are outdoors, in transit or between meetings, it delivers a boost of comfort in seconds. A simple shake blends the two phases, and four spritzes (two horizontal and two vertical) create a fine veil that settles on the skin without disturbing make-up but enhancing its freshness.
What sets this mist apart is its versatility. It can be used as the final step of your skincare routine or as a midday reset when your skin feels tight or tired. It is also ideal for refreshing your complexion in dry environments, such as air-conditioned spaces or long-haul flights. The finish is invisible, but the feeling is supposed to be instantly soothing.

IMMUNE TO AGEING
With 30 years of research, Shiseido’s new Ultimune Power Infusing Serum helps awaken your skin’s own defences for a more resilient and luminous complexion.
Imagine if skincare wasn’t about turning back time but about helping your skin remember its best self. That’s the idea behind Shiseido’s fourth-generation Ultimune Power Infusing Serum. More than 30 years of research into skin immunity have led to this moment, where science meets a deeper understanding of how skin behaves over time.
The focus is on something called Memory T cells, a type of immune cell found in the skin’s deeper layers that play a crucial role in maintaining its health. As we age, something called senescent cells start to pile up. These are tired, ineffective microorganisms that cause inflammation and slow down skin renewal. Memory T cells help to identify and remove them, allowing newer, healthier cells to thrive. By supporting this natural process, the serum intends to help your complexion stay

smoother, stronger and more radiant, even as the years go by.
The real hero ingredient in the formula is Shiseido’s patented Power Fermented Camellia+, made using camellias from Gotoh Island in Japan. Through an advanced fermentation process, the whole plant (petals, leaves and seeds) is transformed into a potent extract that boosts the skin’s barrier, hydration and overall resilience.
Designed for all skin types and ages, Ultimune Power Infusing Serum slips effortlessly into your daily routine. Two pumps in the morning and evening, and you’re good to go. Plus, with its sleek, refillable packaging and use of plant-based materials, it reflects a more mindful approach to beauty, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of mottainai (a concept emphasising respect for resources and avoiding waste). After all, caring for your skin and caring for the planet go hand in hand.

HAIR CARE
Between split ends, dry scalp and frizzy flyaways, finding the right hair treatment can feel like decoding a beauty riddle. Bushra Hakim breaks it all down.

Let’s face it, modern haircare is no longer just shampoo and conditioner. With words like bond repair, peptide and metal detox thrown around, it’s easy to get lost. Between wondering what number Olaplex is used for what or reading your salon’s treatment menu like it’s in Latin, it can get overwhelming. So, how do you know what your hair actually needs? We break it down by concern so that you can choose whether to DIY it at home or have the professionals take care of it.
DAMAGE CONTROL: BOND-BUILDING TREATMENTS
If your hair has been bleached, coloured, straightened or just regularly abused by heat, it’s time to repair the inner structure, the stuff you can’t see but definitely feel.
Olaplex is a pioneer in bond-building tech. The company’s salon duo (No. 1 and No. 2) is typically used during and after colouring to reduce breakage, while the at-home No. 3 continues the rehab. It doesn’t give an instant soft and shiny feel but, over time, it’s like therapy for your strands.
K18 is the newer, fuss-free rival to Olaplex, working in just four minutes to reconnect broken keratin chains. You can opt for it as a pre-colour treatment at salons or use the at-home, leave-in version post-wash. The best part is that no rinsing is required.
Redken’s Acidic Bonding Concentrate is great if you’re after a proteinpacked formula that strengthens without leaving hair stiff. Use the shampoo and treatment together for the full effect.

For in-salon care, L’Oréal Professionnel’s Metal Detox is ideal before or after colour. It removes metal particles (common in hard water, a problem in the Middle East) that can react with hair dye and lead to breakage. It’s perfect for those who colour regularly and want to avoid long-term damage.
QUENCH THE THIRST: HYDRATING TREATMENTS
Dry, brittle or textured hair thrives on hydration. If you’re heat-styling too often or exposed to harsh weather changes, moisture can make or break your hair’s shine and bounce.
Moroccanoil’s Intense Hydrating Mask is a rich, argan oil-based treatment that adds shine and manageability, perfect for coarse or thick hair types. A once-a-week ritual is enough to make a noticeable difference.
Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! is a clean beauty favourite, formulated with algae extract and vitamin Bs. It hydrates without heaviness, so it’s a solid pick for finer hair, too.
For expert-level nourishment, Kerastase’s Fusio-Dose is custom-blended in salons based on what your hair lacks – moisture, density, strength or shine. The treatment is quick but tailored, and the difference in feel is immediate. At home, L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair offers a salon-quality option without the hefty price tag. The mask is lightweight but leaves hair feeling smoother, especially when paired with its matching shampoo.

SCALP CARE: BECAUSE GOOD HAIR STARTS FROM WITHIN
We often forget that the scalp is skin, too, and when it’s not happy, there will be signs. Whether it’s flakes, itchiness or hair thinning, the right treatment can make all the difference.
Olaplex No. 4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo is a great addition if your roots are feeling heavy or lifeless. It tackles product build-up, hard water residue, excess oil and pollution, all of which can poorly affect scalp health and dull your locks. Think of it as a reset button for your hair, leaving it fresh, clean and ready to absorb all the goodness from your treatments.
Aveda’s Pramāsana Scalp Treatment feels like a facial for your scalp – it’s balancing, exfoliating and refreshing. It works well with the brand’s scalp cleanser for those who suffer from build-up.
For in-salon care, many stylists now offer scalp detox rituals which combine exfoliation with massage and targeted serums. Ask about them if your scalp feels congested or your hair’s been falling out more than usual.
SMOOTH OPERATORS: TAMING FRIZZ AND FLYAWAYS
If frizz is your constant nemesis, especially in the hot or humid months, it’s worth investing in smoothing treatments that do more than just flatten flyaways.
Living Proof’s No Frizz range is science-backed and humidity-resistant. The leave-in treatment forms a weightless shield around each strand, ideal for fine to medium hair.
Virtue’s Smooth Conditioner, powered by Alpha Keratin, helps tame the halo without compromising bounce; it is an option if you want smoothness without causing your tresses to become limp.
Professionally, you could also consider a hair botox treatment. But don’t worry, this one has no needles involved. This semi-permanent treatment uses keratin and amino acids to smooth and revive hair without the harshness of traditional straightening and formaldehyde formulas.

ME, MYSELF AND I
Looking for a moment of relaxation, Fernanda Langhammer headed to The Spa at Address for a full-body treatment.

When was the last time you pampered yourself on a spa day? I have to say that after moving to the Middle East, I learned (education is key) that me-time is not a luxury but an essential habit to have in our day-to-day lives. I used to have this idea that I should go for a massage only if I felt some stiffness or pain – I am glad my ideas around wellness have changed massively. I know it’s part of my job to explore the spas around the island (the perks of being the editor of OHLALA), but even when I am off duty, I try to book a treatment here and there or purchase packages prizing my well-being.
This month, I headed to The Spa at Address, Address Beach Resort Bahrain, to embrace a body scrub and a Balinese massage. A break in my busy schedule to enjoy the benefits of taking some time for myself. No computer, no phone, a liberation from the sense of always being connected – for 90 minutes, no one could reach me. How often do we really disconnect? I believe this is another perk of embracing a pampering session: a positive effect on our mental health.
The spa has six treatment rooms, with one dedicated to couples. The reception gives you a boutique spa vibe, a cosy and private space to embrace serene moments. I was welcomed with a ginger and lemon drink and a cold towel to give me a refreshing start.
Masna, my therapist, led me to the changing area. Tones of beige and brown with golden accents paint the space. The area is also home to the steam room, experience shower and ice station, which is covered in small tiles in earthy tones and a pearly finish for a touch of sophistication.

After leaving my belongings in the locker and slipping into the fluffy robe, Masna asked me to sit in the steam room for at least five minutes before the scrub. The heat and humidity help open pores, soften the skin and improve circulation, making it easier to remove dead cells. The steam also relaxes muscles and soothes nerve endings, enhancing the spa experience.
After stepping out of the steam, I went to the ice fountain that produces ice flakes to cool down the skin on my face – it gave me a great refreshing feeling. I don’t usually like steam and sauna, but this was quite pleasant, with the right amount of vapour being blown into the enclosed area.
Masna was waiting to conduct me to the treatment room. The space was dimly lit and minimally decorated with a frangipani flower placed on top of green leaves, a nice way of adding a touch of nature. One thing that people usually don’t notice is the music, but I do. Some sounds bother me, but at The Spa at Address, the music was pleasant and at the right volume, it put me at ease.
The first step of the treatment was the foot ritual, where I placed my feet in a copper bowl and Masna used a ginger and salt scrub to clean them. After that, I chose the oil that was used in the massage. The options were Longevity (sweet orange, bergamot and patchouli), Performance (ginger, black pepper and frankincense) and Recovery (rose, lavender and ylang-ylang). I opted for Performance as a recommendation from Masna, as I wanted something to focus on my muscles.

We began the session with the Aroma Salt Scrub, a 30-minute therapy that aims to exfoliate the skin to detoxify and replenish. A salt scrub from the Team Dr Joseph brand (a sustainable, high-tech natural skincare option made in Italy), composed of gentle crystals and soft texture, was combined with Masna’s soft pressure for a nice feeling. On top of promoting glowing skin, the therapy also improves circulation. After the scrub, she asked me to take a shower with water only to remove the product while she prepared the room for the massage. My skin felt smooth and refreshed – I loved the feeling.
The Balinese Dreams is a full-body aroma oil massage focussed on relaxation, combining gentle stretching, acupressure and soft strokes to create a feeling of deep restfulness. It can also alleviate muscle tension and pain. In my case, these issues are linked to stress, so the rhythmic movement and peaceful atmosphere were spot on! Masna started the therapy from my legs upwards. She asked if the pressure was to my liking and carried on with a firm yet soothing touch. I could feel her working on my muscles without making me feel sore. It was an enjoyable treatment that left me feeling rested.
After the session, she took me to the relaxation room, where I enjoyed a peppermint tea, which, as per my request, was served with some dates and almonds. The post-treatment reflection is always one of the best moments – when you have a feeling of pure bliss and the affirmation that me-time is essential towards a more balanced lifestyle.

ENERGY and POISE
Tory Burch’s spring and summer collection toys with the sports universe, showcasing playful and stylish silhouettes.
Tory Burch welcomes the hot season with styles that highlight elements of sport that are twisted and reinterpreted to emanate a sense of freedom and escape, with a touch of glamour. Swimsuits are embroidered with sequins; belts and ties boast influences from martial arts jackets; and colour-blocking, an athleisure trademark, can be spotted on sweaters. Hints of sensuality can be observed in draping and cascading chiffon skirts and cotton V-neck tops.
The collection displays an interesting mix of materials that alternate between comfy, sumptuous and quirky. Quilted cotton, waffle knits, stretch wool gauze paired with handtwisted sequins, crystal beading and featherweight suede compose the sporty cuts. An abstract jacquard evokes swimmers and waves, while a classic-looking toile de Jouy (a type of calico motif with floral, figure or landscape designs placed on a light background) reveals aliens hidden in flora and fauna patterns.
The accessories bring bags and shoes with new concepts. The Pierced collection evolves with an oval handbag in soft unlined leather with a single oversized ring. The Balloon shoulder bag comes with a distorted T Monogram and glossy textures. For the evening, the Eleanor box bag is covered in metal or comes as a velvet pouch embellished with a floor-sweeping silk fringe. The ballet slipper inspires the shoes’ base, including the Twisted pump and Reva ballet. The Reva was launched in 2006, and this season’s updates include cut-outs, a bevelled coin and a new mule silhouette.
Still on the add-ons side of the collection, metal chandelier earrings are formed in the shape of a cartoony alien or octopus for a touch of humour. Sunglasses wrap around the face and many looks are styled with slim belts and leather amulets.
“The synchronicity of movement and form. This collection began with the essence of sport: power and grace, precision and freedom.” – Tory Burch

Beyond a MARKETEER
This month, OHLALA had the opportunity to interview Cristalyn Pastrana, Complex Director of Marketing at Marriott International – The Westin and Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain, about her career and new achievements. We also learned that she does more than fun marketing tasks – she is involved in operations and has a deep understanding of the entire hospitality mechanism. Get ready for some inspirational words.
CRISTALYN PASTRANA
OHLALA – How long have you been working in hospitality, and what made you choose this career path?
Cristalyn Pastrana – I started my hospitality career 19 years ago, back in 2006, in Jordan. From the very beginning, I was fascinated by the nature of the hospitality industry’s focus on people/guests’ experiences. Over the years, this profession has offered me endless opportunities for personal growth and cultural exchange, fuelling my passion for continuous learning and discovering different customs.
OHLALA – When working in this field, you must have good communication skills and understand people’s needs. What are your tips to succeed in this environment?
Cristalyn – Active listening and empathy are the cornerstones of success in hospitality. Building genuine connections with guests helps us understand their unique needs and preferences. I always strive to listen attentively without interrupting, asking thoughtful questions and observing non-verbal cues. Empathy allows me to put myself in the guests’ shoes, ensuring I respond appropriately and personalise their experience. Additionally, maintaining a positive attitude, being adaptable under pressure and continuously honing my interpersonal skills are essential. These qualities foster trust and loyalty, which are vital in this industry.
OHLALA – Marketing is a vast area. What are your favourite tasks within your sector?
Cristalyn – I particularly enjoy developing creative marketing campaigns that drive engagement and generate revenue for our hotels. Crafting compelling stories around our unique offerings and local culture helps attract diverse audiences. I also enjoy analysing market trends and customer insights to tailor our messaging effectively. Social media engagement, content creation and event promotions allow me to connect creatively with our target audience. Seeing our campaigns translate into increased bookings and positive brand recognition gives me a real sense of achievement.
OHLALA– You are currently working with The Westin and Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain. What are the best characteristics of each property for you?
Cristalyn – The Westin offers a wellness-focussed experience, emphasising health, relaxation and rejuvenation. Its serene atmosphere, state-of-the-art spa and healthy dining options create a holistic environment that caters to guests seeking wellness escapes. On the other hand, Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain is renowned for its vibrant, artistic ambience, blending modern design with local cultural influences. Its lively atmosphere, creative décor and central location make it ideal for guests who appreciate discovery and local experiences. Both of our properties excel in creating memorable, authentic experiences that reflect their distinct identities and focus on exploring a new culture.
OHLALA– What makes you feel accomplished and proud of yourself and your team? Is there any specific situation that you could share with us?
Cristalyn – I feel most accomplished seeing my team grow professionally and deliver exceptional results. Witnessing my team members' such as Hussain’s and Eunice’s, dedication and abilities to lead successful events and brand activations has made me incredibly proud. It reaffirmed the importance of empowering my team, fostering a positive environment and leading by example. Seeing them develop confidence and take ownership of their roles motivates me to continue nurturing talent within the organisation.
“Empathy allows me to put myself in the guests’ shoes, ensuring I respond appropriately and personalise their experience.”
– Cristalyn
Pastrana, Complex Director of Marketing at Marriott International – The Westin and Le Méridien City Centre Bahrain
OHLALA– You recently completed the Marriott Hotel Manager track programme offered by Marriott International. Can you please tell us more about it and where this achievement will take you?
Cristalyn – The Marriott Hotel Manager track programme was a comprehensive, one-year leadership development initiative designed for high-performing leaders. It provided me with in-depth training in operational excellence, strategic planning, financial management and leadership skills. It combined classroom learning, practical assignments and mentorship, enabling me to refine my management capabilities and broaden my perspective. With my strong commercial background, this programme has enhanced my ability to lead teams more effectively and align operational goals with business strategies. It prepares me for future leadership roles, such as General Manager or Hotel Manager, and positions me to contribute more significantly to Marriott’s success and growth.
OHLALA – How important is it to work in a company that provides internal growth? Has it been crucial in your success?
Cristalyn – Having opportunities for internal growth is extremely important to me. It keeps me motivated to develop my skills, take on new challenges and strive for excellence. Being part of a company that values internal promotion fosters loyalty, engagement and a sense of belonging. It also allows me to build a comprehensive understanding of the organisation, which is vital for long-term success. Internal growth has been a key factor in my career progression, encouraging continuous learning and helping me reach leadership positions within the industry. This year, I am celebrating 15 years with Marriott International.
OHLALA – If you could highlight one aspect of your career journey, what would be it?
Cristalyn – The most significant aspect of my career journey has been the continuous learning and adaptability I’ve embraced along the way. Learning operational roles within the hotel and leading marketing and strategic initiatives, each experience has taught me valuable skills and insights. My diverse background, combined with hands-on operational deliverables, has given me confidence and versatility as a commercial leader. I believe that this commitment to growth and adaptability will continue to open new opportunities and enable me to contribute meaningfully to the success of my team and organisation.

Living in a space that you feel connected to improves a sense of belonging. We bring a few ideas that help you create a welcoming nest that reflects your personality.
Every year, Salone del Mobile.Milano, a trade fair event in Milan, Italy, is the scenario for new trends in the home market. From cutting-edge materials to building stylish homes to furniture and accessories, the fair welcomes brands and visitors from all over the world to showcase and witness, respectively, the latest in this ever-evolving field. Not only are creative designs exhibited, but mainly pioneering solutions to enhance comfort and present environmentally friendly products to improve our relationship with the world we live in.
We highlight a few significant aspects that cover different areas, such as colour, materials and design, that have been unveiled at Salone del Mobile.Milano. We hope you get inspired to revamp your rooms or add stylish accents to your interior design. Include a bit of character to transform your house into a home you are happy to return to.
PLAY WITH TEXTURE
The use of different materials can add a sense of uniqueness to your ambience. From luxurious marbles to natural mediums – options such as cotton, hemp, jute and linen – are often more aesthetically pleasing. Metal and clay create an interesting contrast and give a feeling of earth elements and a modern and sophisticated vibe. Texturised fabrics covering chairs and sofas can also add depth to furniture for a sense of warmth.

CURVED AND CIRCULAR FORMS

For a while now, soft curves have been taking over many aspects of interior design, from bent separators to furniture devoted to round edges. The trend moves away from strict angles and straight lines – it’s all about softening spaces and creating a sense of flow. This kind of design adds warmth and a welcoming vibe. Curved sofas and chairs give a relaxed feel to the seating arrangement, while circular tables promote an intimate and conversational dining experience.

SEE-THROUGH EFFECT

Transparency appeared quite big in this year’s trends. Not only separating spaces and cupboard doors, it has also been applied to pieces of furniture, with acrylic playing a major role. Transparency helps to create an illusion of space and can make rooms look larger than they are – a good solution for small areas. Frosted acrylic introduces a light-diffusing texture to create a distinct, contemporary appearance to everyday objects. Some brands added a touch of colour to make it a standout piece in your décor.

SIMPLE LINES

A completely minimalistic interior design has lost its appeal over the years, and full-on Scandinavian design is not something many people embrace these days. However, elements with clean lines, mainly big furniture pieces, are still very much in vogue. The idea of functionality and uncluttered spaces for a harmonious atmosphere is popular, creating a sense of calm and mindful living. This style embraces smart and sleek designs painted in calm and muted colours.

VIBRANT AND LOUD
Using colour on walls is a common technique architects and interior designers employ, mainly when they want to generate an illusion effect in the ambience – make the room seem bigger, for example. However, colouring your furniture is an easier way to create a cohesive and visually appealing space and introduce a sense of uniqueness. When choosing a palette, it’s essential to consider the room’s purpose and the mood you want to express. The 60-30-10 rule is always a good reference, where 60% is dominated by a main shade, 30% by a secondary hue and 10% by accent tones. We kind of love the idea of having one main piece in an energetic shade like this purple sofa from antonioluppi, clearly stealing the show.
LIVING
Responsibly
With our focus on homes in this issue, we took a closer look at what the Kadi Group has been developing in terms of green construction on the island.
The whole world has become more conscious regarding environmental solutions in all aspects of our lives, from everyday products to areas such as building a home. When contemplating construction, it can be challenging to comprehend how to go about it considering the amount of waste that is usually generated. However, we were pleased to discover that this sector has given considerable thought to the matter, and the Kadi Group is embracing aspects of sustainability and bringing them to the construction scene in Bahrain.
“Sustainability is no longer optional – it’s essential. Today’s world demands that we take responsibility for our environmental impact. Building homes with this at their core ensures we reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources and create healthier living environments. It’s not just about preserving the planet; it’s about improving the quality of life for generations to come,” says Saleh Ibrahim Nasser Alfudhala, Kadi Group Founder.
ESSENTIAL PRINCIPLES
Just as in every field, certain steps and guidelines help move towards the concept of green building. Key elements include energy efficiency, the use of eco-friendly materials, smart water management, waste reduction and the incorporation of renewable energy sources. “Additionally, site selection, orientation for natural lighting and ventilation and integration with green spaces are vital. Every detail, from insulation to lighting systems, matters when creating a truly green home,” adds Saleh. The above aspects are part of the three interconnected pillars that represent a holistic approach to sustainable construction: environmental, social and economic. This means that when putting together a green project, it not only has to contain environmental solutions but also be socially beneficial, economically viable and durable.
CONSCIOUS HOME
One of the group’s projects that demonstrates ethical construction is the Kadi Eco Tower, a landmark building that reflects the company’s commitment to clean, sustainable development. The tower integrates energy-efficient systems, water conservation strategies and eco-friendly construction materials. Beyond the technical aspects, it also prioritises human well-being – providing residents with comfortable, sustainable spaces that promote a healthier lifestyle in harmony with nature.

“What truly sets Kadi Eco Tower apart is its holistic approach. It’s not just about green certifications or innovative technologies –it’s about redefining what it means to live sustainably. The tower combines luxury with responsibility, offering highend finishes, intelligent systems and sustainable features without compromising on comfort or aesthetics. It’s a statement that sustainability and elegance can coexist,” adds Saleh.

GREEN LIFESTLYLE
The movement towards an eco-friendly life involves making conscious choices to minimise individual carbon footprint in all aspects; it is essentially about living in a way that reduces harm to the planet and promotes well-being. It is interesting to see that new house buyers are well aware of this matter and want to purchase green homes. “Modern buyers, especially younger generations, are much more environmentally conscious. We’ve seen a noticeable shift in preferences toward homes that are both energy-efficient and sustainably built. Buyers are asking the right questions and they’re willing to invest in properties that align with their values. It’s a trend that’s gaining momentum,” says Saleh.
This lifestyle concept aligns with Bahrain Vision 2030 (a roadmap for sustainable economic and social development), supporting national goals for a greener and more balanced urban landscape. “Awareness in this region is growing significantly. Governments are introducing regulations and incentives and developers are recognising the value of sustainability – not just as a responsibility but as a competitive edge. At Kadi Group, we’re proud to be among the pioneers driving this change, and we believe that the future of real estate in the region lies in sustainable development,” concludes Saleh.

A Historical STAY
With impressive architecture, rich history and delightful cuisine, OHLALA explored Budapest while staying at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace.

Budapest is one of those mystical cities whose very name conjures a sense of rich history and great adventure. Travellers worldwide make their way to this enchanting location where East meets West to experience this one-of-a-kind destination.
OHLALA was recently invited to spend an unforgettable two days and nights at perhaps the grandest venue in the city, Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest. We indulged in this opulent property and all it has to offer.
BREATHTAKING SIGHTS
As we drove through the historical city’s charming streets laden with romantic architecture, we already knew we would have to return to this part of the world to explore Budapest and its wonders.
We were surprised by the amount of greenery we witnessed en route and combined with the waterways and beautifully crafted buildings, we felt instantly drawn to this captivating place.
THE GRAND PALACE
Once we arrived at Four Seasons, we knew we were taking in more than just a luxury hotel.
Constructed in 1906, the Gresham Palace has long intrigued residents and visitors alike with its sheer magnificence. Recognised as one of the world’s finest Art Nouveau/Secessionist structures and known for its historical mix of high finance and bohemia, its evolution into the only Forbes fivestar hotel in Hungary is fascinating.
Built by the most talented Hungarian artists and craftspeople of the era for the Gresham Life Assurance Company, the building became Budapest’s most prestigious address as well as a place to shop and be seen in the exclusive boutiques in the ground floor arcade. It was also the meeting place of Hungary’s most influential artists.

The siege of Budapest during the Second World War threatened to destroy this iconic venue. The German Army’s retreat in 1944 led to the blowing up of the Chain Bridge. The peacock gates were wrenched off their hinges and the façade was scarred by the explosion. Nominal repairs were carried out soon after but, due to a lack of money and materials, the building underwent a serious downgrade. In 1948, British and American diplomats were to be the next inhabitants of the famous palace. Eventually named a protected landmark in the 1970s, the mansion gradually fell into a state of disrepair.
Many years later, as Gresham had done, Four Seasons hired the best talent in Hungary to restore the building. Wrought-iron specialists, silversmiths, stained-glass makers, ceramists, mosaicists and other craftspeople assembled to preserve whatever artwork remained and to reconstruct the palace based on research into how it was first built.
It took thousands of hours for a unique team of highly trained masters to bring the building back to its former glory. By 2004, the palace’s Art Nouveau beauty had been exquisitely restored, combined with the works of many noted Hungarian artists and sculptors who left their mark on the historical building. Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, Budapest was born there.
THE IMPRESSIVE HOTEL
Entering the iconic wrought iron peacock gates, we felt we were stepping into the history of Budapest. We were captivated by the enchanting lobby adorned with more than two million mosaic tiles, illuminated by a striking chandelier.
Our first staff encounters as we entered the brilliant building were the impressive bellmen, who welcomed us in the most helpful, polite and friendly manner.
The check in process was a swift one and we were soon on our way to our room. En route, we were gifted the story of the property, its history and its evolution into the exceptional venue we were now making our way through.
This glamourous five-story hotel contains 160 guest rooms and 19 suites. These include Danube River View Rooms with fairytale sights of the city’s iconic sites, Art-Deco style Superior Rooms combining residential comfort with intuitive workspace, River-View Park Suites ideal for families, two Presidential Suites, offering all the beauty and perks of an upmarket Budapest apartment, and the Royal Suite, that delivers nothing less than the very best of everything.
Hotel amenities also include venues for weddings, meetings and events. Although our room was situated on the first floor, we couldn’t have been any happier with the view. Kitted with everything we needed for the most comfortable of stays, we spent two nights in absolute bliss. On entry, we were even pampered with a delicious plate of dark chocolate.
DELECTABLE CUISINE
During our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed lavish meals at the in-hotel restaurants, including the famous Múzsa Bar, named Best European Bar at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in 2021.
At Four Seasons, we had the option to indulge in dishes ranging from contemporary French cuisine to Hungarian specialities and Asian flavours. We particularly appreciated the buffet and á la carte breakfasts where, I must say, I sampled the best French toast I have ever tasted, perfectly caramelised with a very milky and tender interior. Simply delicious!
The hotel also offers scrumptious in-room dining, refined cakes to go, a threecourse Sunday brunch, bespoke private grape tasting and Herend Afternoon Tea, served in the speciality porcelain manufacturer’s hand-painted sets, on weekends complete with Hungarian cakes and savoury delights.

A PAMPERING SPOT
One of my favourite experiences at the property was visiting the wellequipped spa.
Housing an indoor pool with a fabulous view, tasteful décor, a curated selection of treatments, a diversity of spa products and skilled therapists, this sanctuary combines advanced wellness techniques with traditional Hungarian rituals that restore visitors’ natural vitality through personalised experiences. Amongst these offerings are massages, signature experiences, facial and body treatments, nail care and beauty therapies.
SIGHTSEEING TOUR
As the hotel is located in the very centre of Budapest, the city is very accessible to all guests.
This magical metropolis was made all the easier for us to experience thanks to a motorised city tour that was booked for us through the hotel. Led by an excellent guide, we made our way around Buda and Pest, taking in the Danube River, the amazing architecture, the fascinating streets and the general hustle and bustle of this historical location. We couldn’t have had a more colourful and enjoyable encounter with the city.
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
It felt like we blinked and it was already time to leave Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest, along with our new favourite city. Despite having only spent a couple of days and nights at this unforgettable location, we felt we had formed a connection with this historic place. We promised to revisit this special place and once again stay in the palace amongst hotels.

A GETAWAY for
Everyone!
Looking for a place that matches your mood?
These destinations cater to solos, duos and families alike.
There’s something satisfying about finding a destination that just gets you. Solo travellers often look for places that feel intuitive and easy to navigate, where you can follow your interests without much planning. Couples want scenery and space to reconnect, somewhere that feels like a break from the routine. And families? They need destinations packed with things to do, where everyone from toddlers to teens to adults can find their fun. We’ve handpicked two spots for each type of traveller that tick all the right boxes.

SOLO EXPLORERS

MALAYSIA
Malaysia is a beautiful blend of cultures and is excellent to explore on your own. Start in George Town, Penang, a place where old meets new in the best way possible. Colonial buildings sit beside quirky cafés, Chinese temples and colourful street art. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site that does not feel abandoned. You can spend a day just walking the streets, popping into little museums and trying out local dishes like Penang laksa or nasi kandar. Kuala Lumpur, on the other hand, is a bit more fast-paced. Head to the Petronas Towers, visit Thean Hou Temple or take a short trip to the Batu Caves, which are far from the centre. The city’s efficient public transport makes it easy to navigate and there are countless group tours and hidden speakeasies if you’re looking to meet fellow travellers. For a slower, more nature-focussed escape, head to Langkawi. Cable car rides, islandhopping and easy beach days give you the perfect downtime.

IRELAND
Solo travel is at its best when the place you’re in feels like a companion of its own, and Ireland, with its welcoming countryside and cities, does just that. Galway is a great first stop: compact, artsy and lively without being overwhelming. There’s traditional music pouring out of pubs, craft shops along the Latin Quarter and the famous Spanish Arch if you fancy a quiet sit with views of the River Corrib. If you’re a nature lover, take a bus or rent a car to Connemara National Park, where hiking trails, boglands and coastal views don’t require any mountaineering experience. Dublin, of course, is an essential stop, but not just for its nightlife. Discover the Chester Beatty Library, catch a play at the Abbey Theatre or roam through St Stephen’s Green. There’s enough to keep you entertained without feeling lonely or lost amongst the tourists.

ANNA CHURCH AT UNSPLASH

UNWIND. INDULGE. BELONG.
AT THE DIPLOMAT RADISSON BLU HOTEL, RESIDENCE & SPA, SUMMER UNFOLDS AS A REFINED ESCAPE
where relaxation, recreation, and family-friendly moments come together in effortless harmony.

FOR THE PERFECT TWO
SRI LANKA
Sri Lanka is romantic without trying too hard. It’s scenic, soulful and varied enough to keep things interesting. Ella is magical. It has lush hills, misty mornings and that famous train ride from Kandy with views you’ll both remember long after. Spend your days hiking up to Little Adam’s Peak or taking in the panoramic views from Ella Rock and your evenings enjoying food and drinks in a mountain-view café. Further south, Galle has an old-world charm, perfect for slow-paced couple time. Wander the Dutch-era fort walls, stop for artisanal ice cream and pick up souvenirs in carefully curated boutique shops. If you want a proper beach break, Unawatuna and Tangalle have quiet stretches of coast where one can swim to their heart’s content. And try not to leave without getting an Ayurvedic massage, especially for two.

PHILIPPINES
If your idea of romance leans more towards adventure and seclusion, the Philippines delivers in abundance. Palawan is a dream, especially El Nido and Coron, where you can hire a boat and disappear for a few hours into hidden lagoons and snorkelling spots that aren’t overcrowded. You’ll find beaches with barely another soul on them and natural pools that seem designed for just two. But it’s not all about lying in the sun. Bohol is a mixed bag of activity and downtime, from seeing the Chocolate Hills and meeting tarsiers to river cruises and quiet beach resorts in Panglao. And then there’s Siargao, a surfer’s haven with a cool, laid-back energy. Even if you’re not into surfing, the island’s palm-lined roads, coastal cafés and secret rock pools make it an easy favourite. Rent a motorbike, stop when something catches your eye and let the day unfold without a plan.
FUN WITH THE FAM

LIECHTENSTEIN
This tiny country might not be the first name that comes to mind for family holidays, but it’s a hidden gem that promises an entirely different kind of fun. Think fresh air, open space and wholesome activities that don’t involve queues or entry wristbands. Vaduz, the capital, is small enough to explore on foot, but it has castles, art and museums with just enough interaction to keep the young ones curious. Malbun is where things really come to life, especially in the warmer months. The landscape is perfect for easy family hikes. It has gentle trails, alpine wildflowers and even a ‘discover trail’ with educational stops and play areas along the way. In winter, Malbun transforms into a relaxed ski resort ideal for beginners, with ski schools and gentle slopes made for first-timers. There’s the Galina Falconry Centre, where kids can see eagles and owls up close, and plenty of mountain restaurants serving hearty, family-friendly meals.

Few places are as geared towards family fun as Abu Dhabi. Everything’s close by, organised and has something for every age group. Yas Island is a great base, there’s Ferrari World for thrill-seekers, Warner Bros. World for cartoon fans and Yas Waterworld when the heat calls for serious splashing. The fun doesn’t stop at theme parks, either. Take the kids kayaking through mangroves at sunset or visit Qasr Al Watan for a palace tour that’s surprisingly child-friendly, with grand halls, colourful domes and interactive exhibits. Heritage Village and the souks give you a taste of local culture without needing a guidebook, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s grandeur is sure to leave everyone in awe. For art and architecture lovers, visiting the Louvre is an absolute must.

VERONICA BERTOLLO AT PEXELS

ELEVATED Flavours in a Hip ATMOSPHERE
Offering contemporary Japanese cuisine, Sumosan brings its trademark dishes to the Bahrain food scene, and Fernanda Langhammer went there to check them out.

One of the most exciting cuisines for me is, without a doubt, Japanese. You can always count on delicate flavours, emphasis on freshness and stunning presentation. So, when the opportunity to explore the culinary offerings at Sumosan arose, I was more than happy to head to Address Beach Resort Bahrain, where the island’s branch of this famous Londoner restaurant is located, to embrace a memorable culinary journey.
Just by stepping inside, you notice it is quite a unique place. The décor is impeccable. There is a pre-area with a long plush sofa and a separate bar for those who would like to enjoy some drinks before dinner. The herringbone flooring gives a sophisticated feel and chandeliers that look like a contemporary interpretation of iconic Japanese umbrellas create an ambience that is welcoming yet edgy. My favourite detail was the many vases with plants throughout the space. They add a vibrant and natural vibe that makes it more inviting and alive.
We sat near the open kitchen, which at Sumosan is entirely open, not like other places that say open kitchen, but you only have a part view of it. Here, you can watch the chefs and the whole kitchen team’s every step, preparing each and every component of the menu with clinical attention. Everything looked spotless.
We started our dining experience with the Seabass Carpaccio, delicate thin slices of seabass bathed in basil oil and yuzu ponzu sauce (a citrus seasoned soy sauce), that added an acidic touch and slightly ‘cooked’ the fish, and dots of guacamole. It was beautifully composed with the fish melting in the mouth in an explosion of intense yet well-balanced and refreshing flavours. The Avocado Salad followed, a tower of green leaves with avocado slices creating the base. The addition of pear, seaweed, caramelised pecans and toasted buckwheat gave depth and texture in each bite and the cashew miso sauce enveloped all the elements – a dish that we kept going back to for more. We also had the Seared Wagyu Beef Tataki, which was an ode to the high-quality meat, thin slices adorned with one piece of crispy garlic for a nutty touch, highlighting the beautiful natural flavour of the Wagyu.

Completing the starters spread was a clever twist, the Salmon Crispy Rice Pizza, yes, you read it right, pizza! But the resemblance to this Italian staple was in the concept of layers. The rice base, a round, fried, super crispy and delicious ‘dough’ was covered in spicy cream cheese, then a layer of cucumber slices topped with raw salmon. The accompanying chilli tomato salsa enhanced the spiciness. A dish that was fun to eat, concocted with different textures for a satisfying bite, we all loved it. After an impressive beginning, we moved on to the mains. I am a shrimp lover and the Wasabi Prawns came with a sweet surprise, the fried pieces were placed on a bed of mango and passion fruit salsa. The prawns were enveloped in tempura batter, the savoury hint of the fried delicacy mixed perfectly with the sweet and tangy fruit base – a mix of ingredients that created an interesting play on our palates. And as expected in any Japanese restaurant, we had a Sushi and Sashimi Platter – what a treat! We had three types of nigiri and sashimi: salmon, hamachi (yellowtail fish) and otoro (the fatty part of the tuna belly). Hamachi was my favourite for its firm but buttery texture and mild flavour, which was absolutely amazing. From the maki rolls selection, the Spicy Yellowtail was the winner for me, simply elaborated with cucumber, spicy mayo and spring onion, it had the softness of the fish contrasting with the crunchiness of the cucumber with a hint of heat in the most perfect size for a pleasant bite, yum. We also had the signature Albemarle (named for Sumosan’s first location in London), which is the classic salmon and avocado with sprinkles of crispy rice and spicy tuna with mango salsa. The last main was the Wagyu Sando, made with a thick piece of pink Wagyu beef wrapped in Japanese home-baked milk bread with a golden and crispy toasted exterior. The sando is composed with two sauces: ponzu (a Japanese concoction usually made with soy sauce, citrus juice, mirin, rice vinegar and dashi) and Dijon mustard. The dish is not easy to accomplish, but the chefs at Sumosan were spot on! The meat was tender and full of flavour, respecting the characteristics of this premium cut.

If the mains were flawless, the side dishes shone through. The Glazed Aubergine was everyone’s favourite. The miso sesame sauce gave a caramelised coating that added sweetness and elevated the flavours of this ordinary vegetable. The Grilled Corn Ribs, coated in spicy yuzu kosho butter, were a satisfying yet very simple dish that we dug into with our hands, licking the juices off our fingertips – comfort food with an Asian hint.
The meal was enjoyed with special drinks – we tried Shironi, Café Smokyoto and Supai Ringo. The first two were quite robust, and the last one, made with green apple and popcorn, was light and refreshing. They can all be transformed into mocktails if requested.
And as every memorable dining experience should end, we had two spectacular desserts. The Sumosan Chocolate Fondant is made with a thin dark chocolate cake with a molten white chocolate centre, matchacovered and served with vanilla ice cream, a fantastic combination of warm, rich fondant contrasting with the light ice cream. However, the Warm Chocolate Cookie with salted caramel drizzle, also paired with ice cream, stole our hearts; the chewy interior and crispy corners hit the sweet spot with mastery.
The restaurant is open every day (except Mondays) from 5.30pm onwards, and according to Goncalo Santiago, Sumosan’s General Manager, the Friday brunches are unmissable! We must return for that to embrace a party atmosphere without compromising on what matters the most: tasteful food.

MORE MOTORING MAGIC
OHLALA REKINDLED ITS LOVE AFFAIR WITH MINI, THIS TIME BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE ALL-NEW, ALL-ELECTRIC ACEMAN SE.
When Euro Motors kindly handed us the keys to take the all-new, all-electric MINI Aceman SE for a drive, we jumped right in. This latest model delivers everything we admire about MINI – striking style, electric appeal and that iconic character infused with modern, forward-thinking technology.
DISTINCTIVE EXTERIOR DESIGN
The new MINI Aceman positions itself neatly between the compact Cooper and the larger Countryman, measuring 4.07 metres long, 1.75 metres wide and 1.50 metres high. These proportions give it a balanced presence on the road, blending agility with a confident stance. Approaching the Aceman, its bold and dynamic exterior immediately grabbed our attention. The front end is defined by a sleek, modern aesthetic, showcasing crisp bonnet lines, striking LED headlights and a unique Vibrant Silver grille. This grille seamlessly integrates with the solid front apron's underride protection, reinforcing its rugged appeal. We found the side profile equally eye-catching. Smooth, flowing surfaces accentuate the vehicle's athletic form, while pronounced contours give it a sculpted, refined look. Standard roof rails and optional 19-inch wheels enhance the Aceman's adventurous spirit, supported by matte black sills and distinctive wheel arches that create a grounded, ready-for-anything impression. At the rear, horizontal elements emphasise width and stability. A recessed rear window, designed with aerodynamic precision, adds visual depth and strengthens the car's shoulder line. This is complemented by an extended roof spoiler, reinforcing the sporty and assertive nature of the vehicle.
Altogether, the Aceman's exterior blends elegance with functionality, delivering a design that feels both playful and purposeful – a confident statement in the crossover segment.
REFINED INTERIOR EXPERIENCE
On settling into the cabin, our immediate impression was one of elegance and thoughtful design. The seats offer both comfort and support, perfectly complementing the minimalist yet sophisticated layout. The cabin's ambience is elevated by the generous panoramic sunroof, flooding the space with natural light and highlighting the interplay of diverse and sustainable, high-quality materials throughout.
Notable design details include distinctive free-standing door handles and speaker covers finished in striking Vibrant Silver. These are arranged diagonally, offering a visual contrast to the otherwise horizontal lines of the cockpit, lending the space a unique dynamic. The interior's soft, flowing aesthetic is echoed in the gently curved dashboard, which is wrapped in a double-layered knitted fabric. This material allows the lower tone to subtly show through, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
In the rear, the spacious second-row seating comfortably accommodates three passengers. Flexibility is also a highlight, with a 60:40 split-folding rear bench expanding the boot capacity from 300 to a generous 1,005 litres when needed.
Later in the day, we marvelled at the ambient lighting integrated into the roof frame, casting a soothing glow, allowing for customisable interior moods and further enhancing the refined, homely environment within the vehicle.
"Smooth, flowing surfaces accentuate the vehicle's athletic form, while pronounced contours give it a sculpted, refined look."

IMMERSIVE TECH & INFOTAINMENT
The MINI Aceman's signature circular OLED display instantly drew our attention, reinforcing the brand's identity while delivering cutting-edge functionality. Measuring 240mm in diameter, the ultra-flat, high-quality glass touchscreen serves as the digital centrepiece, powered by the intuitive MINI Operating System 9. This system let us control all major driving functions via touch or voice, offering a seamless and modern interface. Vehicle data is presented in a sleek, minimal layout with speed and battery status clearly shown at the top. We loved how tapping the speed reveals a full-screen speedometer, offering a more immersive driving experience. Below, widgets for Navigation, Media, Phone and Climate are neatly arranged, ensuring quick access without visual clutter.
A standout feature was the inclusion of eight customisable MINI Experience Modes: Personal, Go-Kart, Vivid, Core, Green, Timeless, Balance and Trail. Each mode adjusts ambient lighting and display visuals, while two dashboard projectors cast themed graphics, transforming the cabin's mood. These visual cues are synchronised with immersive MINI Driving Sounds, enhancing the all-electric driving experience with unique audio-visual feedback.
Adding to the high-tech appeal is a central toggle bar that deepens the emotional bond between driver and machine. The wireless charging tray adds convenience, while the debut of MINI's intelligent voice assistant –activated with ‘Hey MINI!’ – marks a new chapter in in-car interaction. These elements created an engaging, futuristic environment that blends entertainment, functionality and emotional connection.

DELIGHTFUL DRIVE QUALITY
Slipping behind the wheel of the new all-electric MINI Aceman SE feels similar to strapping into a grown-up go-kart – in the very best of ways. On winding roads, it clung to corners with the kind of eager precision MINI fans will instantly recognise. Thanks to its firm damping system and cleverly tuned stabilisers, the steering feels sharp and confident, making every bend a pleasure rather than a challenge. However, it's not just about playfulness, as there is serious power underfoot. The 218hp electric motor delivers instant torque of 330Nm, launching us from 0-100km/h in a brisk 7.1 seconds. The acceleration is seamless, and even at top speeds of 170km/h, the drive remains composed. Paired with responsive braking and an array of driver aids, the Aceman SE strikes an ideal balance between fun, power and reassurance.
SPEEDY CHARGING & EXTENDED RANGE
Charging is refreshingly fast and flexible. With 95kW DC charging, we topped up from 10% to 80% in around half an hour. MINI has ensured AC home charging is just as convenient, with 11kW support. The MINI App supplies the owner with real-time updates on battery status and charging costs and allows for pre-conditioning of the cabin – ideal for those really hot days. Best of all, the range is superb. With a WLTP-certified 406km, range, anxiety is taken out of the equation.
OUR VERDICT
The new Aceman SE is a delightful surprise at every turn – stylish inside and out, packed with smart tech and safety and a joy to drive. MINI's latest creation truly delivers a standout experience.

Fashion GONE FERAL
Miss Ohlala rounds up what’s hot, hyped and happily ridiculous in trends.

Labubu mania is in full swing. Imagined by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and produced by Pop Mart, the scruffy, grinning little creature with oversized ears has become a global phenomenon. From bag charms to collabs, Labubu is everywhere. With collectors lining up for mystery boxes and trading rare versions like Pokémon cards, their sale is projected to be a billion dollars.

Talking of charms, shoes are officially the new playground. Forget bag trinkets; trainer charms are having their moment. Coach’s recent drop includes oversized icons like cassette tapes, taxis, rolling dice and much more, turning basic kicks into personalitypacked statements. Quirky, fun and just a little crazy, they’re the perfect way to wear your personality on your feet.

In the world of frivolity, adidas has dropped a full-blown pet collection. The brand has launched a full-on petwear capsule in China, featuring leather pet carriers with mesh windows, bougie collars in genuine cowhide and gold rivets and Cali-style tees emblazoned with Trefoil logos. Sadly, they are only available in China, so fans will have to scour through resale platforms. Worth it? Absolutely.

And in possibly the best news for fashion purists, Pierpaolo Piccioli is officially heading to Balenciaga After its controversial run (hello, trash bag totes), fashion lovers are hoping for a renaissance. Pierpaolo’s refined, romantic aesthetic might just be what the house needs to steer away from meme-fashion and back to Cristóbal’s legacy. The internet is already celebrating. Balenciaga might finally be getting its groove back.
