FROM THE

General Manager

dear prince’s grant members and guests, it’s been an incredible six months of 2025 at prince’s grant, with our golf course achieving a ranking of 30th in south africa and exciting sports and wellness developments on the horizon. our commitment to excellence, community living, and environmental stewardship continues to define the unique character of our estate, and these achievements reflect the dedication of our entire community.

I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities that have shaped the first half of 2025 at Prince’s

from the general manager continued

grant golf estate. our collective commitment to excellence, community living, and environmental stewardship continues to define the unique character of our estate.

Keeping Our Infrastructure in Prime Condition

I’m pleased to report that we’ve made significant strides in maintaining and enhancing our estate infrastructure over the past six months. our road maintenance and stormwater drainage projects are always ongoing, which means we are well-prepared for the rainy seasons. the improvements we’ve made will ensure enhanced durability and reduced maintenance needs going forward, providing better value for our community investment. our landscape management team, in particular, has been busy this year, and their efforts are really starting to show. as an eco-estate focused on indigenous plantings and supporting local wildlife, we’ve reduced our environmental footprint while enhancing our natural beauty. the new erosion control measures along the coastal areas

have proven highly effective, with minimal washout incidents during the heavy rains we experienced in the first four months of the year.

Golf Course Excellence and Clubhouse Enhancements

i’m thrilled to announce that prince’s grant is now ranked 30th in south africa, our highest rating in a long time and an amazing testament to the hard work of our greens team, golf staff, and Golf Committee. This achievement places us firmly on the map as a premier destination for golfers throughout KwaZulu-natal, south africa, and internationally.

our greens have undergone a comprehensive rejuvenation programme featuring targeted aeration, specialised fertilisation, and inter-seeding with bent grass. the results speak for themselves, with improved speed and playability that our members and guests consistently praise. this enhancement also provides better grass coverage during the winter months, ensuring yearround playing conditions. while the heavy rains from January

through april occasionally meant cart restrictions and rare course closures, we kept these disruptions to an absolute minimum, and the long-term benefits are already evident.

Tournament Success Showcases Our Excellence

we recently hosted our annual prince’s grant national amateur invitational tournament (pgnait) and the KZn open stroke play tournament, both executed to our expected high standards with praise received from players and officials alike. These prestigious events generated valuable revenue benefitting our entire community while showcasing prince’s grant to golfers from across the region, potentially leading to new memberships and property interest.

Lodge Operations Enhanced

the lodge and clubhouse have seen exciting improvements that are enhancing the experience for all our members and guests. we’ve completely refreshed our restaurant menu with seasonal offerings, highlighting local ingredients, and catering to diverse

tastes. we have focused on enhanced service delivery, supported by comprehensive staff training programmes. we’re closely monitoring feedback and responding quickly to any concerns, ensuring every visit exceeds expectations.

Strong Financial Foundation Enables Growth

Our financial position remains robust and stable, with improved revenue across most commercial income streams combined with spending efficiencies and improved margins. This strong foundation means no special assessments for residents and continued investment in the amenities you use daily. Our enhanced financial reserves are enabling us to allocate significantly more resources to visible improvements and long-term maintenance projects for the coming year.

We’ve maintained our disciplined approach to financial planning by strengthening our long-term capital reserves. this forward-thinking strategy ensures we can address major

infrastructure needs without imposing special levies on residents, providing the financial predictability all homeowners value.

Vibrant Community Life

one of the many aspects i’m most proud of is our thriving community spirit, which has been evident throughout the year. our resident events calendar has seen good turnout across many activities, from social gatherings to recreational programmes. whether it’s our monthly social evenings, fitness classes, or seasonal celebrations, the participation levels demonstrate the strong bonds within our prince’s grant family.

We’ve made significant improvements to our communication with the prince’s grant community through the soft launch of our prince’s grant app. over 200 members have already signed up, the engagement levels are impressive with daily community interactions and quick updates. We’re in continual communications with our app developer and are excited about the enhanced features coming soon.

our regular newsletters have been well-received, providing timely updates on estate matters, upcoming events, and important announcements.

Exciting Developments Ahead

as we move into the second half of the year, i’m excited to announce that, subject to member approval at our special general meeting on June 29, we’ll be rolling out phase 1 of our wellness Zone. This significant investment in our residents’ health and well-being will add another dimension to the lifestyle offerings that make prince’s grant such a special place to call home. we’ll be sharing more details about this exciting development in the coming weeks.

In Closing

prince’s grant remains a beacon of coastal estate living where heritage, lifestyle, and nature converge in perfect harmony. the achievements of the first half of 2025 have been possible through

the combined efforts of our dedicated staff, committed committee members, and engaged residents. Your ongoing support and participation in estate life make prince’s grant not just a place to live, but a true community.

As we look toward the remainder of 2025, I’m confident that together we will continue to elevate the standards that define our community and enhance the lifestyle that drew us all to this special corner of the KwaZulu-natal coast. i encourage you to download the prince’s grant app if you haven’t already. please don’t hesitate to share your feedback and suggestions as we continue to improve our beautiful estate.

thank you for being part of the prince’s grant family.

Commercial Manager FROM THE

dear residents and friends of prince’s grant

as we reach the midpoint of the year, i’m pleased to share an update on what’s been happening within the commercial portfolio at prince’s grant. it’s been a season of transition, growth, and exciting momentum as we continue striving to enhance your experience in every way possible.

Staffing & Leadership Updates

we recently bid farewell to two of our duty managers, rené and patrick. we thank them sincerely for the value they added during their time with us and wish them the very best in their future endeavours.

from the commercial manager continued

in their place, we have welcomed andrew and sandile to the team. Both bring with them a wealth of restaurant experience and have already begun making a noticeable difference. their leadership has brought fresh energy to our service team, and we’ve seen a marked improvement in the lodge’s operations. supporting them is niel, whose long-standing commitment to prince’s grant makes him the perfect leader for this new trio. on thursday, 22 may, we hosted a full day of training for the duty management team. with their combined expertise and passion, I am confident we’ll be seeing some wonderful progress in this department - watch this space!

Uniform Enhancements

we’ve secured a three-year partnership with coca-cola - a great development for our lodge presentation. as part of this sponsorship, they will be supplying uniform shirts for our entire front-of-house team. We’re currently finalising stock availability, and we expect to have the team dressed in their new uniforms ahead of the club

championship weekend. the design includes a navy-to-white faded golfer for the waiters and bar staff, while our management team will sport a sleek black-to-white version. this new look is both professional and modern, and we’re excited for the refreshed image it will bring to the lodge.

Food & Beverage

there’s been an unfortunate delay in launching our muchanticipated winter menu. initially set to launch on 5 may, the timeline was affected by several factors, including the overlap with pgnait and the KZN Strokeplay tournaments, which pulled significant resources and focus. Additionally, the final design process took longer than expected - getting every dish just right is no small feat! another unexpected hurdle has been the menu printing itself. while we were initially told to expect a two-day turnaround, the protective laminate required for durability has extended the process by a further seven working days. that said, i assure you that we’re

the commercial manager continued

pushing hard to get this over the line. the updated menu is worth the wait, and we’re confident it will be well-received by residents and guests alike.

Commercial Financial Performance

The commercial departments have delivered a strong fiscal year performance overall. t he f ood & Beverage division recorded an 11% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, alongside a 6% improvement in gross profit percentage (GP%), reflecting the success of tighter controls and enhanced operational procedures. w e have observed a recent decline in gp % over the past two months, largely due to rising supplier costs and ongoing market volatility. t his trend is being closely monitored, and we are planning adjustments to our pricing and offerings in 2026 to mitigate further impact.

Community Events & Entertainment

it’s been a vibrant few months on the social calendar. our friday night live (fnl) and friday night groove (fng) events have been a real hit! fnl offers a laid-back evening of live music for friends and families to enjoy, while fng - set up on the practice green patiois all about letting loose and dancing the night away. at the april fng, i witnessed a true community spirit as children from age three to mature children of 80 enjoyed the dance floor together. That’s the magic of prince’s grant! so next time you see an fng event advertised - put on your dancing shoes, slick your hair back or just come as you are.

lodge accommodation turnover grew by just over 25%, underscoring the increasing appeal and competitiveness of our offering. golf performance remained stable, matching last year’s figures despite a number of course closures caused by weather and scheduled autumn treatments in early march.

Quiz Night is also making a return. Our legendary quiz master, Jan nel, has been away, but i - your humble “Quiz dummy”

- will be stepping in to host the next Quiz on 18 June. let’s just say, your scorecards will be safe from judgement until Jan returns! gather your teams and come enjoy a night of laughs and light-hearted competition.

Looking Ahead

we have several events on the horizon that we’re excited to share:

• annual pg Beach cleanup - 8 June

• fathers and Kids mini masters putting competition - 13-15 June

• father’s day plated carvery lunch - 15 June

• prince’s grant club championship weekend - 4-6 July

we hope to see many of you at these upcoming events. as always, we appreciate your ongoing support and involvement in everything we do. together, we continue to build a vibrant, connected, and thriving prince’s grant community.

As a committee, we’ve held six formal meetings since our appointment in late September 2024: on June 9, april 14, march 14, february 10, november 18, and october 14. the next gc meeting is scheduled for July 14. during formal meetings, we invite our golf course superintendent/ greenkeeper, lodge manager, pro shop staff, and estate general manager as needed.

at the september 2024 golf annual general meeting the adoption of an updated prince’s grant golf club constitution was approved by a wide voting margin. this document can be found on the prince’s grant website (https://www.princesgrant.co.za/golf/) and the prince’s grant app (residents > rules & guidelines)

the multi-year contractual partnership between southern turf management (stm) and prince’s grant continues and has resulted in the conditioning of our golf course noticeably improving over the past half year and indeed the past couple of years. led by our greenkeeper igor duval, the 15-or-so-strong stm team daily tackles the multiple challenges presented by our tropical environment and vagaries of weather. introduced over the past three golf course treatment weeks, the putting greens were 100% seeded with “coastal Bent grass” in march 2024. this newly introduced seed strategy has proven to be remarkably golf committee (gc) midterm report continued

successful, prince’s grant’s putting surfaces being acknowledged as “the best they have ever been,” to coin a phrase. (oK, for a very long time). the improvement in our green surfaces more than any other aspect of golf course conditioning improvements has been a source of pride and joy for all who play.

The first eight months of this term again presented personnel challenges and changes in the pro shop. the journey of solidifying pro shop leadership for a sustained period has proven to be a goal we have not achieved. the effort and goal to do so will continue until we succeed.

The Golf Committee’s focus this year has remained consistent with our long-term vision as a committee:

• serving as stewards of the golf course to maintain its highest standards.

• collaborating regularly with southern turf management (stm) and the pg pro shop to achieve these goals.

• s triving with the pro shop team to deliver a five-star golf experience through exceptional service, hospitality, and organising special tournaments and weekly events

• overseeing a thorough and enjoyable december holiday golf programme, spearheading the 24th prince’s grant amateur invitational tournament, supporting KZngu staging for the third consecutive year the 100th KwaZulu-natal open strokeplay; and coming up organising our 31st club championships, supporting the pg ladies prince’s charity “golf day along with in supporting our course hosting more “golf days” and outside tournaments.
