Pharmaceutical Assistance is strengthened in 2012 n order to strengthen the rational use and quality of access to medication in 2012, the Ministry of Health (MS) released the Programa Nacional de Qualificação Farmacêutica (National Pharmaceutical Qualification Program) (Qualifar-SUS). With the purpose of contributing to the improvement, implementation, and integration of activities of pharmaceutical support in health actions and services, the program aims at increasing the continuous, integral, secure, responsible, and humanized support the population receives. However, for the Qualifar-SUS to be efficient its performance was divided into four axes: care, education, structure, and information. Aside from the axes, actions aiming at improving labor processes and practices adopted by local management in pharmaceutical

assistance shall be included into the program’s basic structure. The MS initiated the program with a R$ 17 million investment in the acquisition of furniture and equipment necessary for structuring and maintenance of services from the Pharmaceutical Supply Centrals and Pharmacies in scope of Basic Support. Resources shall contemplate 453 municipalities with extreme poverty population with up to 100 thousand inhabitants, priority given to Plano Brasil Sem Miséria (Brazil Without Misery Plan). The Secretary of Science, Technology, and Strategic Inputs from the Ministry of Health, Carlos Gadelha, explains that the program inaugurates a new phase in pharmaceutical support in Brazil. “Strengthening pharmaceutical services at the Unified Health System will directly impact the improvement in the quality of the Brazilian population’s health”,

he states. Also according to the secretary, the program strengthens the commitment of qualifying the pharmaceutical sector borne by the Ministry. “The population is going to notice that pharmaceutical services at these municipalities will be better structured, improving access and decreasing risks related to the use of medications by the population”, comments the Secretary. For the Ministry of Health, the expectation is to extend the measure for years to come, reaching thus the totality of municipalities listed at the Plano Brasil Sem Miséria, besides supporting pharmaceutical services in state management. “Strengthening pharmaceutical services at the Unified Health System will directly impact the improvement in the quality of the Brazilian population’s health”
