L’arch. Giorgio Giudici, è sindaco di Lugano dal 1984. Meglio di lui fece solo l’avv. Luvini Perseghini, amico di Carlo Cattaneo, sindaco per 32 anni, ma si era nella prima metà dell’Ottocento e il record vacilla... A Lugano si dice che “non si muove foglia che Giudici non voglia”, consapevoli che ha trasformato una tranquilla cittadina sul Ceresio in una città moderna con scuole e istituzioni di altissimo livello, dall’Università della Svizzera Italiana al Centro svizzero di calcolo scientifico con il terzo computer più potente d’Europa. Nel frattempo Lugano è diventata la terza più importante piazza finanziaria svizzera; non solo città delle Banche, ben 86, ma motore economico del Canton Ticino, città svizzera fiera della sua “italicità”, lingua, cultura e rapporti sempre più stretti con la Lombardia. Anche qui protagonista è il sindaco Giudici, visto che è responsabile del Gruppo di lavoro per Expo 2015. In questo ruolo morde il freno, vorrebbe più concretezza, più collaborazioni. “Lugano è pronta a fare la sua parte”.
Giorgio Giudici has been Mayor of Lugano since 1984. He is second only to Mr. Luvini Perseghini – a friend of Carlo Cattaneo –, who had been Mayor for 32 years; but his record dates back to the first half of 19th century and now it is wavering…People of Lugano say that “Not a leaf stirs but Giudici wills it” because they know that thanks to him a peaceful town on the Lake Ceresio has turned into a modern city with high-level schools and institutions, such as the Università della Svizzera Italiana and the Centro Svizzero di Calcolo Scientifico, which disposes of the third most powerful computer of Europe. In these years Lugano has become the third most important financial center of Switzerland, with its 86 banks, and a driving force for the economy of the Canton Ticino. This Swiss city is proud of its “Italian spirit”, its language, its culture and its increasingly closer relations with Lombardy. Mayor Giudici plays a leading role once again as the responsible of Expo 2015’s working group; he demands concrete ideas and more cooperation. “Lugano is ready to do its part” states Mr. Giudici.
