Costa de Almeria • No. 2113 • 1 - 7 January 2026

FOR years and years Almeria residents and visitors have wished for a white Christmas. This year that wish finally came true, as the mountains of Almeria were blanketed in a fresh snowfall. Snowflakes fell from the sky at just the right time, decorating the landscape during the final days of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the blissful days that followed. The snow brought with it a magical atmosphere, as a sense of peace settled over the snowy landscapes. Nearby villages were treated to the sight of snow-topped mountains. Many families made the most of the Christmas snow, driving up to the mountains and transforming it into their playground. They built armies of snowmen, battled bravely in snowball fights and left their mark with snow angels.

112 emergency services worked diligently.

ALMERIA’S emergency services worked around the clock recently as a brutal storm struck the province. According to 112 Emergency Services, the storm caused over 50 incidents with numerous reports of flooding, sewer system problems, damage to roads and drivers trapped in vehicles. One of the most notable rescues was that of a driver in Pulpi. Caught off guard by the flash flood, the driver found themselves trapped as water entered the vehicle. The Levante Fire Department diligently intervened, evacuating the man without incident and ensu-

ring he made it home with only a crazy story to tell. The storm’s impact varied. Weather stations across Almeria recorded different measurements of rainfall, 62.1 litres per square metre in Antas, 47 litres in Alba, 46 litres in Turre. The further inland, the lower the volume of rainfall, with Arboleas reporting totals between 36.6 and 38.3 litres. Rainfall remained below 35 litres in most

other areas, in what was a very uneven meteorological event. As the weather conditions improved across the Levante region and the yellow warning lifted, emergency and road services remained vigilant. With the storm having caused so much damage, their work was not yet complete as they prepared to respond to remaining incidents caused by the downfall.
