Plans wErE announced this week for the construction of a new multi million pound casino in murcia City to replace the existing one at the hotel rincon de Pepe. orenes group, who will develop the project are hoping the new leisure facility will put murcia on the map as a Casino city, along the lines of monte Carlo and Estoril in Portugal. the site of the new venture is to the north of the city in avenida Juan de Borbon and the 18 million euro project should be ready to open its doors by the end of 2018. the casino will have a total floor space of 11,600 square meters distributed across three floors above ground and two basements. the 1,200 square meters of ground floor will be dedicated to the casino and will include a sports betting space, where events can be followed live in real time; a machine zone; american roulette, blackjack and poker tables. Facilities will also include an outdoor terrace of 200 square metres, plus a bar, restaurant and multi-use function room with a capacity for 400 occupants. the project was unveiled to spanish press by Javier lópez Cerrón and Pedro garcía, general director and legal director of orenes group respectively, accompanied by the architect luis Clave, responsible for design and technical specifications for the newly named gran Casino de murcia. the team behind the transfer of the existing casino to its new larger premises and more accessible location are confident they will be able to attract visitors from the neighbouring provinces alicante, albacete and almeria. they also announced they will be creating around one hundred new jobs once the new venue opens. these will be in addition to the 190 employees currently working at the existing casino.
