“One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!” ….more like one giant dancing leap! As a grade we walked into the auditorium with relief that even if we had forgotten the dance, Ms Denise would reteach it to us. Nevertheless, with every stomp and turn we sure had a lot of fun. From the boys giving off swag to the girls laughing and turning, some steps were definitely lost in the motion. I know that we, as a grade, can’t wait to show the rest of the school just how much fun we have while dancing!

We go together… - Miche Botha
The 2024 production cast goes together better than avocado on toast or peanut butter and jelly.
Forty-two rehearsals and 9 months later, and our time to shine is getting closer each day.
We have fitted our costumes, we have each of our lines on the tips of our tongues and we have choreographed each movement on stage
We have become a family while having the time of our lives at rehearsals and cannot wait for everything to come together and for everyone to get to know our characters better.
If you have not met them yet, here they are now Your production characters of 2024
The Pink Ladies:

Sandra has a sweet smile and an even sweeter soul.
Karen keeps everyone updated on the latest trends.
Lerato is a pink burst of energy. Barbz is wonderfully whimsical.
Rizzo is bold and unapologetic.
The T-Birds:
Danny is the bad boy with a heart of gold.
Putzie is Grease’s version of Joey Tribbiani from Friends.

And last but not least, we have the most underrated character, Arrie Nel, who is always walking around with his calculator.
Lights, camera, action! Ladies and gentlemen, sit back and enjoy the Grease production of 2024. I promise you, it is going to be worth every cent…

The Pretoria Eisteddfod A chance to perform and show off hard earned skills. An adrenaline inducing competition! A challenge of the mind and fine motor skills, as well as the ability to overcome stage fright. There are many ways to describe the Pretoria Eisteddfod, but none can really do it justice This 101year-old Eisteddfod, held at Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, wasn’t a walk in the park, but Eduplex was wellrepresented. To put things in perspective, the piano category alone had around 900 entries! With Professor Wessel van Wyk as the adjudicator, we had a blast performing our pieces which we poured so much time into, and the effort paid off considering the results! The Eisteddfod was followed by a prize-giving concert at Pierneef Theatre, which I had the privilege of being invited to I left the concert with a feeling of happiness, knowing that people can connect over something as simple as music. I hope to see more musicians there next year, to join in the fun, and to have the joy of making music.

My hande begin so bietjie bewe, ek voel die sweet op my voorkop en my hele lyf raak sommer lam.

Bandkamp, jy was goed vir my en ek gaan jou baie mis!

Art, charity and a minor calamity.
- Annabell Botha
The Sweater Weather event was one to remember The evening began with a beautiful introduction by Mr Lloyd about the charitable cause - to raise money for Wollies Animal Shelter by auctioning some of the gorgeous senior art students’ works as well as a few of his own - before welcoming the night’s entertainment. The high school band shuffled on, ready and excited to run through their eight-song program Midway through the performance, tragedy struck and the drum kit, which was once held together by tape and dreams, took its last hit and something broke (I have no idea what it’s called but it seemed important). I’m no expert or anything, but believe me when I say it's hard to perform with a wonky beat We managed to pull through, and credit to the drummers and the sound production team - they pushed through and found a reliable fix to get us through the evening. Beyond that, the event continued without further complications and was ultimately a huge success Cosied up around the heaters, everyone said their goodbyes when the night was over, pulled on their sweaters and walked past a stack of animal food donations and blankets with some original artwork under their arms. It doesn't get much better than that.
- N. Skyy
Okay everyone, so far this year has been a super eventful one for Eduplex’s own radio, the EHFM! The amount of stress and deadlines has, sadly, caused many acne outbreaks for me (), BUT as always, the EHFM team worked its magic to make all the events something to remember! Firstly, we were tasked with being in charge of the music, provided by the Edu Council, at the first social of the year (talk about starting the year off with a BANG!). As usual, we had our AMAZING weekly shows, which were made possible by the radio’s amazing team. WE EVEN HAD THE CHANCE TO INTERVIEW SOME OF OUR BELOVED EDUCATORS! Okay, I assume as you’re reading this, it may seem that the EHFM hasn’t been doing a lot... BUT consider the amount of work that has been put into ensuring that we put out HIGH QUALITY shows, something that we are known for. It’s been a privilege to work alongside everyone and lead the radio team, and continue to produce amazing shows! Here’s to MANY more (wink-wink)!

n Dag van wins.
- Elke Fourie

- NIGHT - DAY
- Ruan Basson
Excitement with a pinch of “Again? Really?”. Staff and students of the school await the tremendously tiresome turning point of the year. A foretaste:
The term is bustling with excitement. It’s almost over. The grade 9’s are setting up their stalls, hopeful of the best. Busy queues form and the sweets sell out Different countries compete to market their cuisine, while their customers can’t decide. After a short break, the fun was over and it was on to the seemingly endless night. Sometimes you learn something new, and it’s typically not school-related. The beans get spilled, and not just literally like they did in some classes. To close off, a brutal war ensued. One of betrayal, alliances, and coloured powder. Not one was spared, not even our very own principal.
As the night came to a close, we knew it was not done, for there was one more war, one more night to subdue. The exams have set a fire, but we shall conquer, for we know that the sun will rise once more…

The art excursion was an almost unreal experience, seeing such incredible pieces up close and in detail. It was like taking a tour back in time, seeing all these influential artworks by talented artists. We looked around the gallery in awe, exploring the various artworks as well as the themes and influences that inspired the artist We got to see rooms filled with ancient treasures from advanced civilisations - it was amazing to be able to see things like the famed golden rhino from Mapungubwe up close, which was only proof of how advanced these civilisations were for their time. As interesting as looking at these pieces were, one of the best parts of this trip was being able to stop by Royal Danish for some ice cream. We had so much fun and appreciate the opportunity to see what we are learning about up close.

It’s safe to say that on the 24th of April, the day of the grade 11 Life Sciences excursion to Rietvlei’s Game Reserve, people hit the ground faster than anyone could even say “fast”. Regardless of the tumbles, the day was nothing short of amazing. We counted zebras, buffalos, wildebeests and eland. We played games that simulated the effects of the relationship between predator and prey and what would happen to one if there was a decline or increase in the other.
A rhino, affectionately called Rainbow by Sarah and Skyy, blocked our pathway in a calm manner, slowing us down but giving us a chance to properly enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The idyllic nature scenes that we saw were memorable to the point that I don’t even need a camera to recall them.
The rangers who accompanied us were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making the experience even more wholesome Their patience in answering our questions and the fun ways they interacted with us added a special touch to the day. All of this is without even mentioning what we learnt on the day. The interesting ways in which the game rangers count the populations of different animals, from the mice on the ground to the birds in the air and everything in between. We learnt about populations, biomes and the nature surrounding them in a practical manner as we got to interact with the different environments and learn from them. We got to see the scenery, the variety of animals and smell the fresh air in person.
Experiencing the sights, the variety of animals, and the fresh air firsthand is something difficult to put into words but something one must absolutely experience.

tEACHERS VS FIRST TEAM - miche botha

AandieLiga-kampioene,
In my opinion, this year’s hockey season was one of the best in Eduplex history As someone who has been playing hockey for the past 5 years, I can confidently say that this year's first team has been one of the best This season has had its highs and lows that have ranged from a near undefeated season all the way to losses (to some of the best first teams in South Africa I will add). It has truly been a privilege to have played on this team and I will miss everyone on it, but I know that next they will be a sight to behold.

We celebrate Ascension Day because it is the day that Jesus ascended into heaven having risen from the grave. This year the school decided to invite a guest speaker, Ms Claudette Jooste, to deliver a powerful message. Everything that she said resonated deeply within me and what I appreciated even more was that before speaking about Jesus’ ascension, she spoke about his life from birth - how he grew up, who his family was, what he accomplished and how he lived out his purpose. Sometimes I would wonder why Jesus couldn’t just stay on Earth and continue performing miracles and perhaps the world wouldn’t be so bad.

But then I realised something importantJesus had to go. If Jesus didn’t ascend into heaven, our faith would all just be a lie and we would all still be sinners. We would never have the opportunity to connect with God again. Jesus’ ascension is the bridge that reunited humanity with the Creator.

After the powerful message delivered by Ms Claudette, I was again grateful to have the opportunity to call God my Father. It is one of the biggest blessings of my life and my prayer is that it will be one of the biggest blessings in your life too. Always remember that God loves you and cares about you. Stay abundantly blessed.

he brink of exams and what felt like a chilly winter season ahead, the o make the days a little sweeter and warmer by providing hot chocol pes of raising enough money for a charitable cause. We stood at the hopeful for groups of freezing students to turn up and purchase toasty drinks. With the melancholy mood surrounding everyone as exams crept around the corner after a stressful and short term, we definitely all needed a bit of warmth to comfort us.

Slipper Day is widely misunderstood by many as a day where one simply pays to wear slippers, but it’s actually much more than that. It’s a day where we as a country donate to those who might not make it past the age of 18. Those terminally ill patients just need a little bit of happiness or good luck in their lives, so when I heard that our school was also partaking in Slipper Day, I did not hesitate to buy my sticker and even donated a little bit more.
I was surprised but happy to see that most of the people that were writing an exam on the 31st of May were rocking their silliest and comfiest slippers.
It gave Eduplex a literal and figurative splash of colour. If there’s one tradition I think Eduplex should continue having, it's definitely Slipper Day.

- Koket Terefe
With the Student Centre decked out in balloons, colourful lights and soon filled with people dressed in low waisted pants and throwback outfits, Eduplex definitely experienced an exciting final social before a hectic term ahead. As Water, FEIN and Goosebumps blasted through the speakers, you could feel the rush of energy and excitement in the atmosphere. Everyone was having a great time with people doing the macarena, passing smiles all around and I think it is safe to say enjoyed

Picture this: a sunny morning with the Student Centre transformed into a scene straight out of Ancient Greece, minus the togas and plus a lot of tea. Welcome to the Mother’s Day High Tea, where blue and white décor and clothing reigns supreme. The school band and a cappella group showcased their incredible talent and set the perfect mood for Mother’s Day. It was followed by solos so heartfelt that even Zeus might have shed a tear – or at least spilled his coffee. Ms Tiffany’s photo booth captured the day’s memories while the nearby Coffee Run offered rich brews, adding a modern twist to the High Tea. The market area featured stalls with handcrafted jewellery and clothing for the moms, allowing them to take a piece of Greece home with them. Now picture the following: everyone leaving the SC with warm smiles and a souvenir or two, already thinking about Eduplex High School’s next Mother’s Day High Tea to celebrate everything they do for us, but more importantly who

Try to guess this mystery person.
1. What university are you planning to attend?
University of Stellenbosch
2. Do you have a degree or career chosen? Sports Science... I guess

3. Do you have a crush?

I can’t really say her name because she is my ex-best friend's girlfriend
4. What is the most interesting thing that has ever happened to you? I have been in the Huisgenoot

5. What weird skill do you have?
Hacking

Welcome back, lovely readers, to another splendid edition of the Entertainment Section! Much to our surprise, this second part of the year was filled with even more stories and complications than the first. Lucky for you all, we are always here to report right back to you and bring you the tea fresh off the stove!
We all know that these past few months have been absolutely freezing, with temperatures close to 0 and piercing winds that felt like icy shards, but according to what we have heard, our lovely students have found rather creative ways of staying warm – whether it be with a simple cup of tea or movie-like drama, let’s find out how this winter and exam season affected them!
Firstly, the cold has proven to increase bravery levels with the first matric dance proposal taking place! Our Motivational Speaker tested his luck to bag our very own Barbie as his date to the dance. After a beautiful bouquet of flowers, some Lint chocolate and a hopeful smile, she said yes. No one saw it coming but we can’t wait to see this pair all dressed up. Obviously there were haters but we can definitely take some motivation from our Motivational Speaker (ironic, we know) – don’t be afraid and take the risk, you might just end up with the right one next to you!
Next, we have a pair that unfortunately didn’t have that much luck. Upcoming Soccer Boy and Curly Hair Girl had a forbidden dream relationship that everyone envied, or so we thought. It looks like neither of them knew where home was and sadly this dream turned into a nightmare. No one knows what truly happened between them but sometimes it’s better to not know why, especially when you don’t know whether or not your partner was plotting on someone else all along…
The cold also seems to have evoked some fakeness with a short-lived trio that broke down due to a snake in the grass. Turns out Blondie Girl couldn’t be trusted and had no shame talking about her two besties behind their backs. We wish only the best for the duo that remains and hope that Blondie Girl causes no further problems, but you know what they say - no matter how many times a snake sheds its skin, it’s still a snake. As we can see this winter was filled with drama, chances and betrayal. Hopefully warmer temperatures will soon melt down all the complications that took place this season and with spring just around the corner, maybe a new deadly connection will bloom. And if we didn’t spill your tea this time, just know there is always next time.
XOXO
