Dear Club Officers of District 3310, I congratulate you on your installation as a club officer for 2021-22.

I hope the upcoming year will be challenging, yet fulfilling. This year, we note all the ways that we Serve to Change Lives. Service is the rent we pay for our time on earth and we will expand Rotary service as we ‘grow more and do more.’ We will grow through ‘Each One, Bring One.’ If every Rotary member could bring just one more person to Rotary, there is no limit to how much we can grow. We will do more by putting a special emphasis on empowering girls, so young women can have improved opportunities worldwide. We will also feature Rotary Days of Service, so that all members share in our good works around the globe and look for new ways to serve beyond their backyards.

In Rotary, we are empowered to confront some of the world‘s most critical and widespread humanitarian issues. When we vaccinate an infant against polio, teach a young adult how to read, or bring water to a village by building a well, we are creating a better world for future generations.

We serve the global community, and we’re just getting started.

Message from District Governor 2021-2022 Dear President Patrick Cheo and Members of the Board of Directors, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pen my thoughts in your club's installation magazine which I am greatly honoured.

Let me congratulate you and your board members for taking up the leadership roles of your club especially during this COVID-19 pandemic when we are faced with so many challenges and uncertainties.

Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta addressed his District Governors as the MOVERS. And may I invite all of you too to be MOVERS and together we adopt his guiding mantra “Do more and grow more”. He said, friends, “Do more” as in bigger and impactful service projects, and “grow more” as increasing our membership and expanding our participation. As one of the active clubs in our District, I am confident that with this guiding mantra you will continue to excel in your community service projects, your generous contributions to The Rotary Foundation and will continue to provide that strong support to the District community services as well as in its many organised activities and functions.

I would like to congratulate Immediate Past President Philip Marcelo and his entire team for a great year of service despite having faced many obstacles in this difficult situation.

The community that they have served are appreciative of them.

As I mentioned in my speech at the Governor’s Banquet, my dream has been shattered by this pandemic, but not my heart, because of the strong Rotary spirit in me. I am sure this goes the same with you too. We are in one big family of Rotary. The flame of our Rotary spirit keeps on burning, motivating us to reach out to our community in needs, despite the challenges facing us.

I look forward to the day when it is safe to travel again, when the borders are opened and when there is no fear to enable me to meet all of you and rekindle our Rotary fellowship and bonding.

Rotary is a beautiful organisation, and I am very proud to be a Rotarian. In this Rotary journey of mine, I find that ....

ROTARY is a place to be for it has changed my life.

ROTARY giving, we changed the lives of others.

ROTARY, I believe is good for the heart and soul.

Message from Immediate Past President Philip Marcelo It has been an exceptionally difficult year in many ways because of the restrictions on social activities and in-person meetings through most of the year. I am proud to report that as a Club, we pulled through, stuck together, and did not let what we could not do stop us from doing whatever we could.

It's been my honour and privilege to serve as President and work with the many leaders in the Board of Directors, all of whom came with a wealth of experience in running the club or organizing projects and activities.

Since the Club’s founding in 1983, we have always met for lunch every Friday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. This we could not do for most of the Rotary Year because of public health guidelines, except for a few occasions when the situation did improve.

Nonetheless, we kept up with our weekly meetings, doing so online. When we had the opportunity to meet up in person and do lunch but only in small groups of 5 or 8, we quickly improvised, and agreed to break out in small groups at least once a month in various locations.

The idea of doing break-out lunches worked out very well, and inspired the Community Service Committee to organize a series of Little Charity Meals in lieu of a fund-raising Gala Dinner. Diners who signed up for the charity meals donated at least S$200 each to join the meal, the costs of which was generously covered by the hosts-cum-sponsors. From this project, the Club managed to raise S$8,200 – just what the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home needed for a year of provisions for the 70 children under their care.

The Club managed to push through with a number of other worthwhile projects, such as the third and final phase of the S$60,000 Global Grant-funded Pneumonia Vaccination Project. The project benefited almost 300 elderly in Teck Ghee community in Ang Mo Kio. In International Service, the Club seeded a project to provide clean drinking water for a diabetic care hospital in Sri Lanka, working in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ibbagamuwa, Sri Lanka. A special lunch was held at the Hyatt on 23 Feb 2021, with the Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Sashikala Premawardhane, in attendance, to officiate the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two Rotary Clubs. The last leg of the project’s execution remains suspended though because of Covid-related disruptions in shipping and customs on the Sri Lanka end.

Under the leadership and guidance of District Governor Rajamohan Munisamy, the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley had the honour and responsibility to organize for the Rotary District the 30th District Conference in May 2021.

It was an exceptional challenge because for the first time, the DISCON had to be held fully online. I am proud the 3-day conference went well, received a lot of positive feedback, and involved a total of 380 attendees from 100 Rotary Clubs and 6 Rotaract Clubs from 16 districts and 12 countries worldwide. Congratulations to the Organizing Committee ably led by then President-Elect Patrick Cheo.

It was a banner year for Giving for the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley. The Club was again an EREY Club, with every member doing their part to contribute to the Rotary Foundation, in support of its many causes around the world. At the 30th District Conference, in May 2021, RCPV was recognized as #1 in District PolioPlus Fundraising, for raising US$35,435 during the year - the biggest amount of any club, in the District’s End Polio Now: Make History Today Campaign.

Past Presidents Elsie Chua and Tan Wah Yuan joined TC Tan and Pang Boon Seng as Major Donors. IPDG Mohan introduced the Club to whole new level of giving during his term as District Governor when he was inducted into the Arch Klumph Society, Trustees Circle, for his generous donations totaling at least US$250,000 during the year.

I am proud to have been the President of Rotary Club of Pandan Valley through another successful year, which is all the more remarkable because of the difficulties we had to overcome. For that, I wish to thank every member of the Board of Directors as well as every member of the club for coming together to keep things going, and make things happen.

I am pleased to hand over a Club that has again proven its strength and toughness in difficulties to incoming President, Patrick Choe, and his Board of Directors.

President Patrick Cheo, I am sure you will have another great year in Rotary. Let’s keep opening doors to opportunities to Serve to Change Lives.

World Understanding & Peace Day (WUPD) 23 February 2021 Excerpts from Opening Speech by District Governor Rajamohan Munisamy It is indeed an honour and a privilege to stand here today as your District Governor for District 3310 this Rotary Year 2020-21, a district consisting of 3 countries, 5 regions, and 71 Rotary Clubs with 2,158 Rotarians, demonstrating the diversity in demographics and strength of Rotary ideals in action.

I am gratified to welcome all of you to this World Understanding and Peace Day or WUPD meeting that is celebrated by Rotarians around the world. I am inspired by how, despite the pandemic, we came together via technology to be connected on this day. My heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Singapore and Rotary Club of Kuching in organising and hosting two separate hybrid and virtual meetings for the benefit all Rotarians in our District.

On 23 February 1905, little did Paul Harris and his three friends realise what they were starting when they met in room 711 of the Unity Building in Chicago. Today is Rotary’s 116th anniversary and we also commemorate it as World Understanding and Peace Day. We have come a long way since then.

February is designated the month of Peace & Conflict Prevention / Resolution. It is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote our Fourth Object of Rotary – our continued goal for goodwill, peace, and understanding among all people of the world.

We are often asked: “How can we get involved in world understanding and peace now?” There are many paths to peace in Rotary. Our youth programs point us in the direction of Positive Peace, as does the work of inter-country committees and the Rotary Action Group for Peace.

Being Rotarians and Rotaractors, we are part of a club, part of a district, part of an international network of about 1.2 million Rotarians in 36,508 clubs, 528 Districts in over 200 Nations. This makes us part of the largest and most impactful service organization in the world.

As Rotarians, we have human power with the added benefit of being woven into the fabric of our community. Rotary as a global organisation connects us with a network of passionate community leaders, focussed on taking action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, in ourselves.

Rotary supports training, education, and practices related to peacebuilding and conflict prevention through initiatives that help transform conflict in our

communities and around the world.

The good news is, Rotary already sets us up for success with the 7 areas of focus. When we build economic opportunity to communities, Rotary builds peace. When we provide education where education is not available, Rotary builds peace. When we provide clean water, better sanitary conditions and hygiene, Rotary builds peace. When we improve on the health of women and children, Rotary builds peace. When we prevent and treat diseases, Rotary builds peace. When we support the environment, Rotary builds peace. When we focus specifically on peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Rotary directly builds peace.

We are Rotarians and Rotaractors, and we build peace.

As people of action, we can start a peace committee in our club, volunteer to be the peace chair in our district.

We can lead in our club to engage in at least one service project annually that promotes non-violence or raises understanding of the root causes of violence. We can start by joining Rotarian action groups for peace.

Rotary’s goal today is to create environments where peace can be built and maintained through sustainable and measurable activities in communities worldwide.

Peacebuilding remains a cornerstone of our mission as a humanitarian service organization.

Clubs in our District makes amazing things happen in a variety of ways. Whether through our service projects or peace fellowships and scholarships, our members are taking action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

We are continuously undertaking many projects in India, Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, Nepal, Nigeria, Indonesia, Brazil etc. covering all of Rotary’s areas of focus.

Thank you for making a difference around the world with your dedication and commitment.

We have lasted 116 years because of our strong ethics, our passion for Service Above Self, and our unique approach to problem-solving. One of our greatest strengths is how we reach across our communities and across national, ethnic, religious, and political divisions to unite people of all backgrounds and to help others.

Let’s celebrate our history and the many ways in which we promote goodwill, and world understanding and peace in all that we do.

Message from President Patrick Cheo Dear Fellow Rotarians and PPs, It has been about 10 years since I joined the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley (RCPV) and during this period, I have had the privilege to witness all the good work that the club has done. Thus, it is indeed my privilege and honour to be the 39th President of RCPV. The past 1 year has not been easy for every country in the world. The words of pandemic, vaccines, lockdown, vaccination, restrictions are words we often hear and dread in the news today and Singapore, being well known for its efficiency and effectiveness was also not spared either. Whilst businesses have pivoted and adapted to the pandemic, RCPV has also done the same.

We continue to almost meet on a weekly basis via zoom and when there are no restrictions, we move back to our regular luncheons at the Grand Hyatt, albeit with social distancing measures. We continue to raise funds to contribute to our community service projects although physical activities has been minimised. I believe that this will be our mode of operation until our vaccination rates reach above 80% and we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

This year’s Rotary Theme is “Serve to Change Lives” and is a great reminder that the reason why we continue to be in Rotary is so that we can continue to serve and help to improve the lives of others. As such, I would like to urge all members to participate in the community service projects which we will be organising in the months to come.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the Board of Directors for their hard work, commitment and dedication to ensure that the good work of RCPV continues despite all the challenges we will be facing.

Giving Club

In the Rotary Year 2020/2021, District Governor Rajamohan Munisamy introduced the Club to a whole new level of giving.

Mohan became a member of the ARCH KLUMPH SOCIETY, and for his generous cumulative contribution of US$250,000 – US$499,000, he was inducted into the Society’s Trustees Circle.

The Arch Klumph Society, named after the 6th President of Rotary International, recognizes the Rotary Foundation’s highest tier of donors – those who have contributed US$250,000 or more during their life-time.

Membership in the society is life-long. Each member has the opportunity to have his or her portrait placed in the Arch Klumph Society Gallery, located on the 17th floor of Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Congratulations Mohan, and thank you for the inspiration.

The Rotary Year 20202/2021 has been another banner year in giving for our Club.

Thanks to the generosity of all members of the Club, RCPV is again a EREY CLUB. The EREY (Every Rotarian, Every Year) Club is a Rotary Foundation program that encourages Rotary Clubs to rally 100% of its members to come together to contribute US$100 each every year to help fund The Rotary Foundation’s many worthy projects around the world.

Many members also contribute to The Rotary Foundation as PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS (PHFs). To date, 21 members are recognized as Multiple PHFs. Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who have contributed US$1,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Multiple PHFs are those who have made the US$1,000 contribution more than once,

Community Service Projects

Annual Lunar New Year Food Distribution @ Redhill Cl Every year, for more than 10 years now, members of the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley would happily gather at 89 Redhill Close, a few weekends before the Lunar New Year, ready to distribute food and festive goodies to a good number of financially-needy senior citizens in the area.

On 30 Jan 2021, we continued with this tradition, working with Covid-19 related public health guidelines and restrictions on mingling in public, and partnering again the Apex Club that was active in the area. Altogether, 16 Rotarians and 11 Rotaractors and Interactors came together to reach out to more than 100 elderly residents in Redhill.

Mid-Autumn Festival Joy for Residents of Apex Harmony Lodge

Major Project of the Year Financial and Educational Support for Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home

In a joint project with Rotary Club of Jurong Town and 5 other Rotary Clubs in Singapore, the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley contributed $250 to a pool of funds used to bring Mid-Autumn Festival joy to residents of Apex Harmony Lodge, a home for individuals suffering from dementia. The money was used to buy mooncakes and lanterns in September 2020.

In our latest engagement with the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home, an institution we have worked with before, we established that the home was in need of financial support to fund one year of daily provisions for the 70 children that it cared for. The daily needs

amount to S$2,000 a quarter or S$8,000 in total for one year.

The Home provides shelter, care and protection for children age 5 to 21 from troubled family backgrounds – financially needy, broken or dysfunctional families.

We managed to raise a good sum of S$8,200.

About 60% of the home’s operating expenses are covered by the government. The rest is usually covered with financial support from donor organizations or companies.

Covid19 Relief Fund

In a parallel fund raising effort, we raised another S$3,750 from the sales of calendars depicting the flower paintings of Mrs Linda Leong, spouse of Rotarian Dr Leong Sai Fan.

PP Lim Cheng Kooi and President Patrick Cheo applied their culinary skills to whip up unforgettable meals at their homes.

PDG Dr Philbert Chin and PP Andrew Koh also hosted dinners at their homes.

PDG Chew Ghim Bok feted donors to a dinner at a famous Teochew restaurant and Rotarian Catherine Chan bought a group of diners a lunch that cost more than the donations collected!

The Pandemic has created so much suffering around the world and Singapore is not spared. Many families are in need of financial helps as many sole breadwinners lost their jobs due to business closures and retrenchments.

Our engagement with the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home will go beyond providing needed funds. When public health conditions permit, we will provide a learning program to boost the children’s self-esteem and equip them with valuable life-skills. This learning program valued at S$10,000 will be sponsored by the program provider, Adam Khoo Learning Centre. The generous sponsorship was kindly arranged by our Club President, Patrick Cheo, who is also CEO of the Adam Khoo Learning Centre.

Community Service Projects Global Grant Project S$60,000 Pneumonia Vaccination Project, concluded

A pneumonia vaccination program, initiated 4 years ago in the Rotary Year 2017-18, was finally wrapped up on 19 June 2021, after delays and disruptions due to various factors.

The S$60,000 project, which was co-funded by a Rotary International Global Grant, was designed to benefit a total of 300 senior citizens in the Ang Mo Kio area. In the first and second phases, in RY2017-2018 and RY2018-2019, 197 elderlies were vaccinated.

Phase 3, originally scheduled to be completed in RY 2019-20, was held up partly by a change of management at the community club hosting the vaccination.

The sudden resignation of a key member of the vaccination team, as well as Covid-19 related restrictions on public gatherings, also disrupted the schedule.

To complete the project no later than September 2021, as is required by the terms and conditions of the global grant, we were engaged in much deliberations and negotiations with the new manage-

ment team at Teck Ghee Community Club as well as the Ministry of Health.

Finally, we were able to set a date, and managed to reach 55 of the 103 names on the original list of would-be beneficia-

ries. With the balance of the vaccines in hand, we offered the opportunity of the vaccination against pneumonia to residents of St Vincent’s Home and referrals of club members.

Vocational Service that helps to liven up our lunch-time meetings.

In a few cases, these talks inspired new possibilities and gave rise to worthwhile service projects.

Cases in point include the 24 July 2021 talk by Mr Lim Chong Tee of Wateroam on his social enterprise’s rapid-deployment water filtration system for disaster-hit areas or poor under-served communities. The talk led to our International Service project, providing a clean water system for a diabetic-care hospital in Sri Lanka.

A TechForGood Forum, organized inpartnership with the Rotaract Club of Singapore University of Technology & Design, was a highlight of this year’s Vocational Service program. The online forum, held on 11 March 2021, was open to undergrads other than members of the Rotaract Club. The guest speakers were Mr Matt Oon, CE0 of Acceset, a platform for mental wellness solutions, and Rotarian Louis Loo, CEO of robotics company Solustar.

Throughout the Rotary Year, we continued for the second year running, a program to get fellow Rotarians to talk about how they serve the community through their vocations. This way, we get to know each other a lot better and appreciate how each of us, in our own ways, are all making a difference in the community through our respective professions.

A talk by representatives from Central Singapore CDC on its ongoing programs to support and care for the elderly led to our pilot Silver Homes project where Rotarians and Rotaractors get together to help clean up the homes of senior citizens who cannot do it for themselves.

Youth Service

Rotaract Club of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) The Rotaract Club of SUTD took their usual initiatives online, and so was able to execute creative new projects with no break in their momentum of service.

Youth Engagement at Heartlands (YEAH) Programme Continuing with its signature initiative, the Club held 14 sessions between 30 Oct 2020 and 9 April 2021. During 5 sessions held in 2020, the Rotaractors mentored under-privileged Primary 4 to Primary 6 students and ran simple science experiments/learning sessions via Zoom. For the remaining sessions in 2021, as restrictions eased, similar simple science experiments/learning sessions were held physically at Tampines West Community Centre. The volunteers gainedvaluable mentoring experience and skills while bringing about positive change to the young mentees.

Project Alive Workshop (28 October 2020) The Club organised the Project Alive Workshop via Zoom, in collaboration with HCA Hospice Care. Participants learnt about aging issues, and were trained on skills to take care of the aged or ill.

The Club collaborated with Vanguard Healthcare to usher in the Chinese New Year with the elderly residents at 4 different Care Homes, engaging the residents with fun games such as food-themed bingo.

TechForGood Forum (11 March 2021) As part of its Professional Development activities, the Club followed on from the success of Technopreneurship Forum 2020 to stage a TechForGood Forum.

Participants got to learn entrepreneurship secrets from established entrepreneurs. The 2 guest speakers were Rotarian Louis Loo, CEO of robotics company Solustar, and Matt Oon, CEO of Acceset, a platform for mental health professionals.

31 Blanja@SUTD Acting in conjunction with the SUTD Community Service Cluster, the Rotaract Club organised an event to appreciate the security guards, operations department staff, janitors and gardeners of SUTD. The event involved a media campaign to raise awareness on the life stories of the staff and make them feel at home in the SUTD community, and a fundraising campaign. A total of S$2,713 was raised over a 15-day campaign period, and used to make welfare packs for the staff.

RotaTeach (July 2021) As part of the Rotaract Club of SUTD's International Service and Youth Expedition projects, the Club reached out to children in Phong Thanh commune, Cau Ke district and Tra Vinh province in Vietnam. The Rotaractors and volunteers provided online lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (“STEM”) as well as English. The programme consisted of 5 lessons for 2 different student classes — 1 English, 2 Math and 2 Science lessons each.

Interact Club of Stamford American International School (SAIS) The Interact Club of SAIS did not let any public health restrictions hold them back.

The Interactors successfully executed two major projects this year – Lunar New Year Contribution to the Marymount Centre and fund raising for the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES) Society.

Lunar New Year Contribution to the Marymount Centre The Interact Club of SAIS brought Lunar New Year cheer to residents at Marymount Centre, a centre for vulnerable women and children who had been victims of abuse or human trafficking. The Interactors created personalised greeting cards and packed them in red packets filled with Milo packets, chocolate coins and sweets for distribution to the children in the centre. A total of 220 packets were distributed.

Raising funds for ACRES through sales of handmade bracelets In an effort to raise funds for the Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES), the Interactors got together to create handmade bracelets in an assortment of colours, to be sold to schoolmates, family and friends. The bracelet sales raised a whopping S$900 for the cause.

Club Service: The Year of Breakout Lunches Given the need to maintain safe social distance, and avoid gathering in big numbers, due to the Covid19 pandemic, the Club was unable to do our weekly lunch meetings at the Grand Hyatt for most of the Rotary Year.

So, we figured out that for so long as we could not meet as usual, in-person over lunch every Friday at our usual lunch venue, we could at least meet in person at least one Friday every month, in small groups of 5 or 8 whenever prevailing public health guidelines permit.

We had our first Breakout Lunch in September, reclaiming the joy of in-person meetings over a meal. We were to repeat these once a month

breakout sessions in October, November, December, March, April and July.

Encouraged by the success of these breakout lunches, the Club organised a series of 6 small group lunches of 8 persons each to raise funds for our major community service project.

In the months of February, March and May, when Covid infections were well under control, the Club managed to hold 3 full, all-as-one, lunch meetings at the Hyatt.

We are glad we did not let what we could not do stop us from doing what we could, responding to opportunities whenever they showed up and maintaining social responsibility at all times.

Club Membership and New Members During this Rotary year, RCPV inducted 3 new members – Caroline Phua, Alice Yim and Shaun Ng. We are delighted to have Caroline and Alice as returning members.

The Rotary Year started with 37 members on 1 July 2020 and ended with 39 members with a net growth of 2 members (5%) as we lost one member Steve Leong. We achieved better than the District Membership goal of 2% net growth despite the restrictions due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Our Club supported the view of RI President Holger Knaack to concentrate on retention and to select new members carefully. “Make sure that they are a good fit with your club and that your club meets their expectations. Engage them and take care of them”.

International Service Clean Drinking Water Project in Sri Lanka The idea for another clean drinking water project grew out of a Social Entrepreneurship Forum organized by our Rotaract Club at the Singapore University of Technology and Design in January 2019. At this event, we learnt about Wateroam, a social enterprise dedicated to providing clean drinking water to disaster-hit areas and under-served communities in the region.

A talk by Lim Chong Tee, Chief Marketing Officer of Wateroam, at our Club’s weekly meeting at the start of the Rotary Year added impetus to the idea,

breathing life into the possibility. It excited one of our Rotarians, Bonnie Williams, to want to personally sponsor a system. The next question was where is there a need for such a portable, easy-to-deploy system.

A survey of possible areas began. With the help of our international network of Rotarian contacts, the exploration led us to the Nikawewa Government Hospital in Sri Lanka, a diabetic care establishment which does not have a reliable supply of clean drinking water

and needed one badly for its patients as well as caregivers.

A needs assessment was carried out with a friendship club, the Rotary Club of Ibbagamuwa, Sri Lanka, District 3220, and a need and an opportunity to help was confirmed.

After much planning, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on 14 January 2021. The memorandum established the role and responsibilities of various partners in this joint project, with the Rotary Club of Pandan Valley

A signing ceremony was carried out at the Grand Hyatt Hotel with our Sri Lankan partners and members of our club in attendance, all connected via Zoom. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore, H.E. Sashikala Premawardhane, attended the special lunch event as Guest of Honour.

Owing to disruptions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, the system which has been procured and paid for by

RCPV, has yet to be installed. The system will be shipped to Sri Lanka once we get word from our partners that they are able to take delivery of the system for immediate installation.

Medical Supplies to support Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 Response Meanwhile, another opportunity to serve popped up. The Sri Lankan High Commissioner subsequently reached out to our club for support for Sri Lanka’s health response to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. RCPV considered the request and readily offered to donate oximeters, isolation gowns, disposable PVC shoe covers, disposable face shields, medical face masks, latex

gloves and Covid-19 Ag Swab test kits – some of the items requested in a list of what is needed. The Sri Lanka High Commission said it will facilitate air freight once the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka give the go-ahead.

The 30th District Conference, the District’s first-ever fully virtual conference

The Rotary Club of Pandan Valley had the honour and responsibility of hosting and organizing District 3310’s 30th District Conference (DISCON), the first ever to be held fully online.

The 3-day conference, convened by then District Governor Rajamohan Munisamy, was held from 21 to 23 May 2021. The then President-elect of RCPV, Patrick Cheo was the Organising Chairman.

The big challenge for the Organising Committee from RCPV was to run the District’s first-ever fully virtual event, with participants zooming in from home, and reproduce a conference experience on par with a physical DISCON. Thanks to the conference being staged on an online platform, we

were able to involve highly-esteemed international guest speakers such as Past Rotary International Director Dr. Bharat Pandya from India, and Past Rotary International Director Robert L. Hall from the United States of America.

A highlight for RCPV was the recognition of our IPDG Rajamohan as a member of the Arch Klump Society, a great honour for our club.

For entertainment, we were serenaded by the soulful sounds of our club’s own Rotarian Daren Tan. He cleverly combined harmonizing videos that made for great entertainment.

The DISCON garnered a total of 525 online registrants, and enjoyed a peak attendance of 380 attendees across a total of 100

Rotary Clubs and 6 Rotaract Clubs from 16 districts and 12 countries worldwide.

From the feedback received following the event, we can safely say the 30th DISCON was truly a successful event for our District.

We did fulfil the challenge of creating a conference experience on par with the usual in-person event. Kudos to President Patrick for his excellent leadership and members of the Organising Committee for their hard work.
