Olivia’s Surprise Cat

Once upon a time there was a girl named Olivia. She was begging her mom to get her a cat when purring started coming from the front door. Olivia ran to the door and found the dream cat she always wanted. But her smile faded as sadly her mom said she could only keep her until the owner came to say that they lost their cat. Her mom said they needed to wait 3 days to see if the owner would come. When 3 days had passed, Olivia got to keep the cat. Her mom really didn’t want a cat in the house. She complained that they didn’t even have a litter box yet! So she simply said to her daughter, “I don’t know if we can really keep her.” She sighed knowing that a cat was always her daughter's dream, and she knew this was the dream cat that Olivia always wanted so she didn’t say anything more. She watched as Olivia took the cat into her loving arms. Then Olivia and her mom went to find a litter box. Olivia felt so happy and so excited to finally have her little cat. It was her dream come true.

What is it?
By Kaitlyn RheeSanrio is a Japanese company that makes characters and sells products with the characters on them. Sanrio was created on August 10, 1960 and was founded by Shintaro Tsujithen. It was also known as the Yamanashi Silk Company.
Sanrio has many characters. For example, some are Hello Kitty, My Melody, Gudetama, Pompompurin, Keroppi, Hangyodon, Cinnamoroll, Tuxedo Sam, Kuromi, the Little Twin Stars, Pochoco, Chococat, Pekkle, and Badtz Maru. Hello Kitty is probably the main character everyone has heard of. She is actually a little British girl, not a cat. She also has a twin sister named Mimi.
More about the characters:
Pompompurin is a golden retriever that always has his favorite hat, his beret. He loves collecting shoes, eating, and sleeping. Cinnamoroll is actually a boy, and he is a dog. His name was supposed to be Baby Cinnamon but they had trouble with copyright issues. Kuromi loves causing trouble. She is a friendly rival with My Melody.
Sanrio is an adorable, amazing, and creative company. Don’t you agree?
The Summer I Will Never Forget…
By Lila PeynadoOne thing I did this past summer that I will never forget is… The time when I went to Scape Park in DR (Dominican Republic). It was really fun! I was with my friend Mika who lives in DR. First, I took a 30 minute long drive to get there. It was long but it was worth it! There was a place called the Monkey House that was near the entrance. The monkeys were so cute! There were also turtles which swam in the water and iguanas which had their own section. We went to a cave that had bright colored lights in the water to make it look cool. It was really cold! I also went on a zip- line, but not the high scary ones. This zipline made you fall in a pit of water. It was fun! Close to the zipline was a pool with a big waterfall. It was weird swimming under it. It felt like tiny pebbles falling on my back. We went to a Dominican house which had a small room with a tiny bathroom and bed. I think my house is better though. But it was still different and humble to sleep here. Inside was a lady selling bracelets and serving coffee. We also went to this place where you would jump off a steep cliff into water! It was also very cold! My brother and I jumped in but not together because the rule was one at a time. We had to wear life jackets and helmets to jump in. When it was about to close, my brother and my dad ran into the farm. We got to have a quick look at the donkeys and then we had to leave. I was sad to leave and said as you say in Spanish, “Adios, DR!”
Summer’s Cats
By Ellyn ChunOnce upon a time, there was a girl named Summer and she wanted a cat. Then one day when she came back from school, she found a box waiting for her. She slowly opened it and couldn’t believe her eyes! There was a momma cat and one, two, three, four, five kittens! She was so happy that she hugged them! Then her parents said ,“Surprise!!” Then she asked, “Mom and Dad, when did you get these cats?” They said,“We got them last week.” “Thank you so much, mom and dad!” Summer said. Then she said, “I’m going to name you Rainbow!” pointing at the momma cat. “And let’s see. You will be Sunny, Luna, Saturn, Jupiter and Star.” she said as she named her kittens. Then one day,when Summer came back from school, everything was scratched up! She gasped and shouted, “WHAT IN
THE WORLD HAPPENED HERE?!”
She saw Jupiter and Saturn licking their fur. “Jupiter! Saturn!” she said and sighed. She picked them up and put them back in their box. Then she tried to patch the holes Jupiter and Saturn made in the furniture. When Summer’s parents came in, they said ,“What happened to the furniture, Summer?”
“Jupiter and Saturn did it .” Summer replied slumping on the couch. A few weeks later, all the kittens were gone! There was only Rainbow! “Where are the kittens, mom and dad?” Summer asked while petting Rainbow.”Well, we donated them to the shelter and we were tired of our furniture getting wrecked!” mom said. But Summer was happy because she was tired of taking care of all those kittens. Then she hugged her parents and said, “Thank you for leaving me Rainbow!”

STUDENT VS.
I think waterparks are better than amusement parks because you get to go in the pool and get to go on slides. You still get to ride loopty loops and zigzags and all the fun stuff you do in the amusement park but you get to be wet and go in the pool. When you are in an amusement park and you are waiting in line, it is so tiring and you get so hot. The good thing about a waterpark is you can cool down. Some rides in an amusement park are too scary!!

I like amusement parks better than water parks for several reasons. The most important reason why I like amusement parks better is I don’t have to change into a bathing suit and get all wet. Another reason why I think amusement parks are better is there are more rides to choose from. I can go on a scary rollercoaster ride, a haunted house ride, or a fun spinny ride. The last reason why I like amusement parks better is I can get a Fastpass and skip the long lines. It is so much fun walking past all the people waiting in line. Ha Ha Ha! The Mysterious Toad
By Matthew HanOnce upon a time there was a very poor peasant named Peter in a very big village. Peter wanted to have more money because his parents had very little money. One day, he secretly decided to go to the store by himself. He bought a map with all of his money showing the whole village. He looked at the map, once, twice, and saw there was going to be a dangerous obstacle on his way.
As soon as he was on his way, he heard a lot of commotion going on down the path in front of him.
GRRR…RRR..GRRR! So he headed toward the noise. Soon he figured out what was causing the commotion
…TROLLS! There is a big difference between a troll bridge and a toll bridge. A toll bridge is when you pay money on the bridge, This is way different than a troll bridge. When Peter found out he was standing in the middle of a troll bridge, he knew there were two choices: to fall off the bridge into thorny pines and monsters OR become jelly while the trolls squash you. But Peter was smart. He said to the trolls, “We had a very powerful invisible wizard that still follows us every day. Now who's going to be blown off their feet by the greatest magic in the world?” Both of them pointed to the other. “HOW DARE YOU SACRIFICE ME!” BOTH OF
THEM CLUB EACH OTHER’S HEADS.
So Peter got to walk off the bridge. As soon as Peter got off the bridge, he saw the shop gleaming in front of him. Just as he entered the shop, he noticed he had no money! Peter put his head down, but just as he walked out of the shop, he saw a $100 dollar bill on the floor! He giggled with joy and ran back into the shop and bought himself a toad. For some reason, Peter had forgotten his way home, and he lost his map. But the toad he had just bought knew the way home. He ran with his toad all the way back home, and the toad spit out several golden coins from when the customers had dropped their money in the shop. Peter could not believe his eyes. He had bought a very special toad! After that they lived happily ever after.

The Most Precious Day
By Koharu KawabataI have one little sister and one baby brother and he’s only two. And my one of the precious day in my life is when he was born. He was born two years ago in Japan. I couldn’t wait to come back home from my school. My mom was at the hospital for few weeks, and she was coming back with her newborn baby! So I didn’t participate much in my class. When my school bell rang, I raced. “I’m home,” I shouted as I walked into bedroom where I knew mom would be. “Welcome home, Koharu!” yelled mom and smiled. Then, I saw the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. “Aota!” I screamed my brother’s name. “Isn’t he cute?” I said to my mom. “Of course he is,” answered mom. “Can I try to hold him?” I asked. “Sure, but be careful,” mom smiled. I held him softly. He was so light. Since I always carry my little sister who was not a baby anymore, I thought that my brother was as light as a feather. I rubbed my brother’s soft hair and touched his tiny hands and feet. “He holds my hands,” I whispered.
“I’m home!” shouted a familiar voice. “It’s Hiyori!” I shouted. Hiyori is my little sister, and that time, she was only in kindergarten so she couldn’t walk home by herself. So my dad picked her up. “Aota!” shouted Hiyori. And she said mostly everything I said, like is how adorable our brother is.
Now, our brother is already two, but he is still cute and adorable especially when he smiles and giggles. Sometimes he becomes a monster and can be noisy. Anyway, I love my brother, and I wish he will speak soon so that we can communicate and have fun together!

Quokkas live in southwestern Australia.
Quokkas are known as the happiest animals in the world because they are always smiling. They are also the kings and queens of selfies!

What is happening to quokkas?
Sadly, quokkas are vulnerable. There are only 7,500-15,000 quokkas left in the world. Many foxes and other animals are eating them and they’re losing their habitats. People are the cause of this. But don’t worry, many companies and communities are working to protect quokkas.

What you can do is to tell friends and family about quokkas so they can help quokkas too!

By Lana Mitkovski and Koharu KawabataWould you want more recess? We have questioned two students about this and here are their responses.
Lana - I think we should have a second recess because it would be so much fun.
Koharu - I don’t think we should have a second recess. I feel like the recess is really boring. My friends and I can’t think of anything for us to play!
Lana - But if we had a second recess we might think of something to do until our second recess. We could question classmates to see what they may think of.
Koharu - I’ve been looking at our classmates during recess but I didn’t get any ideas. Plus, it’s cold outside. Sometimes, I wish that there’s no more recess.
Lana - It is cold outside now, but imagine in the spring and summer when us kids would like to get outside to cool down or to shed off those germs as Ms. Auger would say.
Koharu - Well, you don’t know how sweaty I am! It’s too hot in Summer and Spring for me.
Lana - Well are you wearing shorts or a t- shirt? If you can’t, then tell your parents that you sweat in school.
Koharu - Of course I wear those cool stuff! But still, I’m sweating like I took a bath! But forget about me sweating. During recess time, I’m always hungry! So I want to have lunch then recess. I think we should get rid of recess, and eat our lunch! I think that will heal my belly.
Lana - Well we could eat during recess. If we can’t finish it while we have lunch, we could finish eating during the 2nd recess.
Koharu - I don’t think teachers will allow us to eat lunch during recess.
Lana - Why wouldn’t they? I think the teachers will encourage us to eat lunch during recess because they obviously don’t want children slugging around the halls and not being focused.
Koharu - Maybe. But what about the lesson we usually have after lunch? Teachers might have to shorten each lesson time and I don’t think they will like that. Don’t you think so too?
Lana - We could shorten Special. I don’t think teachers will mind that. Or we could make the school day longer. That wouldn't do that much damage to the school day.
Koharu - I DON'T WANT
A LONGER SCHOOL DAY!!!
Lana - But the school day goes by so fast it wouldn’t hurt to extend it for 15 more minutes. 2nd recess could also be at the end of the day.
Koharu - No thank you. No more school day. Can we please not have 2nd recess?

Student vs. Teacher Debate
Which character from Kate DiCamillo’s Mercy Watson series is the best? Who do you agree with?
My favorite character is Mercy Watson. I like her because she is the main character of the book. Mercy is cute and sweet and likes to play with friends. I think she is cute because she likes toast with a great deal of butter on it. I also like to eat toast with butter. In one book, she chases Eugenia Lincoln’s cat. It was funny and it reminded me about my friends. Also Mercy is my favorite color pink. I love Mercy Watson and these are the reasons why I like Mercy Watson the best.

My favorite character is Eugenia Lincoln. She is MercyWatson’s neighbor. I like her because she is a strong character. Unlike Mercy, she is not sweet and she is not cute! She is angry and yells A LOT! She believes pigs belong on farms and should not be pets! She even calls the cops on Mercy. She oftens yells, “That PIG!” and shakes her fist at Mercy. Mercy has a way of innocently annoying Eugenia. Mercy even ate Eugenia’s newly planted pansies in spring! Yet, no matter what Eugenia does, she ends up joining the Watson family for hot buttered toast at the end of the story. I especially love reading her parts with an exaggerated angry voice. It makes reading Eugenia’s parts, so much fun! I really enjoy the character of Eugenia Lincoln!

My Ninth Birthday Party

Beep! Beep! I woke up with a huge smile on my face. It was the day of my birthday party! I changed into a cute green shirt and black pants. I ran down stairs as fast as an eagle and quickly ate my breakfast. Ding! Dong! I opened the door. It was my grampa! I gave him a big hug. “Let’s go!” I said as I ran in the car. “Let the fun begin!”
We parked our car and walked inside Urban Air carrying cupcakes, goodie bags and other supplies needed for the party. We went inside the party room and decorated the walls with streamers and stickers. My mom said to play but I was waiting for people to arrive. My cousins arrived first. I gave them each a hug. More guests arrived. I made sure to give everyone a hug. When a lot of my friends came, we started to play. We jumped on the trampoline and slid down slides. We even played dodgeball! Once I put everyone on teams, we started playing. Some kids had really strong throws. I wondered if they played baseball. After dodgeball I went in the foam pit and everyone followed. It had long pieces you could use to fight with. My friend and I laughed as we tried pushing each other in. We went back on the trampoline and played tag. We were having so much fun! My mom called because it was time for pizza and cake!
We walked back to the party room and sat down. A man was serving pizza. I talked to my friends while we ate. After pizza my mom brought out a cupcake and stuck a candle inside. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to me. It felt great to blow out the candle. My mom handed out cupcakes and goodie bags. It was sad to see people leave but I had so much fun! This was the best birthday ever!
One Day a Guy Took a Walk on 6th
Street…
BY William KimSo… it was Saturday. This guy named Otto took a walk on 6th St. in New Jersey. First he got hit by Jon Cena riding a bike. He broke John Cena's foot. So he couldn’t wrestle. John Cena had to go to the hospital and he stayed there for 9 days!!
Otto got mad because John Cena yelled at a car and said, “Sly, the car. ”Uh oh!” Otto said. He listened to John Cena scream. He yelled, “BRUHHH!” John Cena stopped screaming. Then he yelled, “STOP THIS INSTANT!!!!” “Ok!” Otto said. He went to the dentist and said, “Hello! I would like an appointment at 9:24 for John Cena. He then told him, “John Cena, you will be having a dentist appointment at 9:00.”
John Cena whispered, “Who made the appointment for nine o'clock?” Otto replied, “Me!” John Cena said, “Oh…” At night Otto went to bed and said, “Good night, John Cena.” John Cena blurted, “Darn Otto! Darn Otto!” Everybody passed out on their dinner and their parents were trying to wake the kids up. In the morning the kids
were asleep on top of their breakfast. Otto walked on the road again. He tripped on a rock and accidentally ate a car’s head and rear lights. He got up off the hood with a sprained leg and a broken rib. He went to the hospital and his roblox name is tanqR_2. His brother’s name is BruhBloxfriutsisdabest and his other brother’s name is UwU. After that, he was feeling better.

Hailey saw a little girl hiding in the woods. ”Hey little girl. What’s your name?” “My name is Lily.” the little girl replied. The three girls and the animals cleaned up the forest and planted trees. Suddenly, the book appeared and pulled Jubilee and Hailey inside. ”Bye everyone! Thank you!”
Then Jubilee and Hailey woke up. They wondered if it was a dream or real life.

Favorite Playground Equipment
By: Noelle Chung & Elyse KimWe were playing in recess, and wondered what playground equipment everyone likes the most, so we decided to poll the 1st and 2nd graders on their favorite playground equipment. First we started with 2nd grade. The most liked equipment of 2nd grade was the swings and the monkey bars. The second most liked equipment was the rock wall. To our surprise, no one picked the slide. In 1st grade, the most liked equipment was the swings and the 2nd most liked one was the monkey bars. Next are the rock walls. Even though a few people in 1st grade picked the slide, it still wasn’t a popular option. In total, 54 people (42.5%) picked The swings, 46 people (36.2%) picked the monkey bars, 21 people (16.5%) picked the rock walls, and 6 people (4.7%) picked the slide. We were very surprised by the result. How about you?

Plot: Ellray Jakes, The Recess King by Sally Warner is about a main character named Ellray Jakes who is trying to make friends because his little sister is having a preschool show and she wants Ellray and his friend to come to her show. But Ellray’s two best friends named Corey and Kevin can’t come. Corey’s too busy being a champion of swimming and going to the swimming class. And Kevin, he’s hanging out with his other friends from his neighborhood. So Ellray makes few plans to be a friend with some boys and starts trying a few things to make a friend that can come.
My review: I read a few of the Ellray Jakes series books before and I loved all books, but I like Ellray Jakes, The Recess King the most. It was really exciting to see if Ellray was going to make any friends or not. But I also became a little worried if he was going to get in trouble with his parents and or his teachers. I also like Ellray Jakes' character. He gets in trouble a few times, but I think he’s also caring inside because he wouldn’t try to make friends only for his little sister if he was not caring. He thought that he shouldn’t show that he had no friends that he could hang out with. He thought that he had to be a good brother for her. That’s why I love this series, Ellray Jakes, but The Recess King is my favorite.

Man’s Best Friend!
By Lila MastropasquaHave you ever felt a fuzzy, cute animal giving you a warm, wet kiss on the cheek when you need it? If you haven’t, I know you might really want it. Who wouldn’t? Warm, wet kisses can really turn you from sad to happy! It is great to know you have someone or something to rely on when you're sad, need cheering up or to make you feel loved. In my opinion, dogs are the best pet ever!
My first reason why dogs are the best pet is it teaches a kid responsibility. For example, if a child can take care of a dog, a parent will trust the child better for other things. Another example is, it will make the child feel confident and proud of themselves, which will make them feel like they can do anything. My last example is, it lets a kid do something other than school. Which is great for a full fun day. Learning how to be responsible in an easy way can even be so much fun.
My second reason why dogs are the best pets is they are very fun and playful. For example, if you're bored and need someone to play with, you could play with your dog. Another example is, dogs will always want to play with you,
so you don’t need to worry about them not wanting to play with you. My last example is, dogs are a friend for life and will always want to be around you. As you can see dogs are really fun and can really be your best friend.
My last reason why dogs are the best pets is they are very loving and caring. For example, they will always love you and always want to be around you. Another example is, they love cuddles and kisses and will even give you kisses and love back. My last example is, if you're hurt or need help, your dog will feel bad and give you the help you need. Also if you’re sad or need cheering up, your dog will definitely do something to help. Dogs are very loving and caring and will always love you no matter what.
As you can see, dogs are really the best ever! You have just seen (and read) about how dogs can teach a kid responsibility, how dogs are very fun and playful and how they are very loving and caring. I hope in the future you will maybe get a dog, not just to have one, but to help the dogs. There are some very sad dogs in the pound who deserve a loving owner. Trust me, they will be sooo happy once you come to take them home. If you love your dog, he (or she) will love you back.

Poll: What’s Your Favorite Weather?

With the weather being so cold, we thought about how many students actually like the snow. Do they like it better than sunny, windy or rainy days? We asked students in Kindergarten and Grades 1-3 to see what weather was their favorite. We polled almost 325 students!
It is not a surprise that sunny days are the favorite of all the students we polled. This was about 50% of the answers. Snowy weather was a close second with about 44% of votes.Rainy and windy days were not really anyone’s favorite with a combined 4% of votes. What was fun to see was the answers by grade. For example, kindergarten students mostly chose snowy days (54%). In Gr. 2, even though sunny and snowy weather were the favorites, rainy and windy days were more popular than the other grades with 8% of votes.

My head was hurting!” Then out of nowhere a wolf came and said, “Come and have a hot dog with me at a party I am going to.” Zoe said, “Okay.”’ Zoe went to the party but there were no people there. Zoe said, “Hey, where are the people?” The wolf laughed and then said, “Oh the people? I ate them.” Zoe screamed, “Aaahhhhhh!” She ran as fast as she could out the door. After she ran and ran, Zoe said, “Thank God! I lost him.” The wolf came running trying to find her. He did not see her but said out loud, “You can run but you can’t hide.” Zoe waited before running in the other direction. Zoe got away. And she never saw the wolf again.

Japan is an island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. I have my whole family living in Japan, and I also used to live in Japan for 7 years. I think that Japan is the best place for everyone to visit. It’s because the food there is delicious, there are so much fun activities, and that the things that they sell in Japan are not really expensive.
The first reason is that the food we eat there, nothing is bad. For example, there are so much yummy sushi restaurants that I used to go many times.Another example is that Japan has noodles that are in the warm soup, called ramen, which I can’t help myself but devour them everytime.There is also a food there called yakiniku. It’s the meat we grill by ourselves in the restaurant.These are few of my favorite foods!
The second reason to visit Japan is that people never get bored when they travel to amazing Japan.There’s so much fun things to do! For instance, I love going to a bunch of huge arcades that make all kids excited.Another example, there is a big warm bathtub called onsen, which is also called hot spring in English. It makes our body feel relaxed when we go to the hot spring. Every child gets crazy when they go to the amusement park! I get crazy too!These show some of my favorite places to go to in Japan.
The last reason to visit Japan is that mostly everything is cheap, even though they work well. For example, even though we don’t go out to eat at some kind of restaurant everyday here, but in Japan, I used to usually go eat out every time whenever my mom was lazy to cook.The food is not expensive at all.Another example is that most toys aren’t that expensive.The last example is that wherever we travel thbroughout Japan, it won’t cost much either.
All thing considered, I think that Japan is very fun place. I can tell more good things about Japan.There is some bad things in Japan too, but I still hope that the people who don’t know Japan that much will know how amazing it really is.This is where I came from, and I wish everyone who visits will love this exciting place because I love this country so much!!!

The Best Birthday Ever!

It was the day before Lily's birthday. She was so excited she couldn't wait. Her friends would come to her house to celebrate. Lily had pink and blue balloons everywhere around her house; she even had ribbons in her room. The next day Lily woke up and went downstairs and saw pink pancakes on the table. All her friends would come at 1:00. Lily got a new dress with sequins that she never wore before. It was 12:57…almost one o’clock. All her friends would be here very soon. Finally it was one o’clock and all her friends arrived. They played games, ate cotton candy and had cake. After everyone left, Lily started to open the gifts she got. She got a bracelet kit, a lego set, a stuffed animal of a puppy and a paint set. After she opened all the gifts her friends got her, her mom said, “Honey, we have something to give you.” After her mom said that, Lily thought, “Could it be? Could it actually be?’’ Just then, her mom handed her a box. It was big, and it was shaking, Lily closed her eyes and slowly opened the box. Right after she opened the box, a small white dog jumped out of it and started to lick her. “YES!” said LIly as she played and laughed with her new dog. A minute later, Lily just remembered that she needed to name him. “I'm going to call you Biscuit.” Lily said while playing with her new dog. It was the best birthday ever!

Showing Gratitude
By Lila Mastropasqua PeynadoGiving back to others is a great way to show that you are grateful. I have so many kind friends and family who believe in me and many awesome things. But there are still things I can do to become a more giving person in home, school and in my community.
At home, I could help my parents clean, cook, wash clothes and even do laundry to show I am grateful for them because they are so busy with other important things. I could give them hugs, cards and gifts to show I care. I could say thank you too. Also, I could help my siblings with stuff like homework, reading and questions they ask because they love you so much. I could also turn off the water faucet when I’m not using it to save water. If I treat my home nicely, I will have a happy home.
In my school, I could use the front and back of paper because it comes from trees which help the air. I could also show gratitude to the students by giving compliments, listening when they are speaking and asking them to play at recess to brighten their day or to show I care. I could also show gratitude to the teachers by paying attention, listening, doing my best work and giving gifts or a hug to show some love to them because they work so hard to help
me learn. There are so many ways for you to show gratitude at school.
In my community, I could throw away garbage and plastic to help the environment. I could also donate money to charities like TeamTrees or TeamSeas where you donate a dollar, one tree gets planted and one pound of trash gets removed from the ocean. I could help people if they need it and give compliments like “I like your shirt!” or “Nice headband!” to make their day or to show gratitude. Being kind to the environment is so important. We only have one earth and it’ s our job to take care of it!
As you can see, showing gratitude in your home, school and in your community is so important. Together we can help the environment, be kind and show gratitude to make a difference.

“That’s a nice thought, but you know it’s 7:00 pm, right?” said Moriah.

Lucy’s Crazy Christmas
By Lila Mastropasqua PeynadoOnce upon a time in the 2020’s in a small town named Cresskill, a girl named Lucy was sitting on her bed looking out the window, she was wishing and wishing for snow. Her favorite thing was to play in the snow. She had been waiting all year. Lucy was walking to school with her friends, Anna and Emma. Emma noticed that Lucy looked sad. “What's wrong?” Emma asked. “You've been like this all month,” said Anna. “I wish it will snow but the news reporter says it’s extremely unlikely.” said Lucy, looking even sadder. After school, Lucy went home to do her homework when … a giant portal went through her door and sucked her up! “Ahhh!” Lucy screamed. All was quiet.
Her friends Anna and Emma followed Lucy to her home but when they came, Lucy was gone. Just a huge portal closing up slowly. “Come on!” Emma screamed holding Anna’s hand as she jumped in pulling Anna with her. The three friends were stranded on the North Pole, alone. “Lucy!” Anna and Emma screamed. “Hi!” Lucy said. “How did you get here?” “Long story,” said Anna. “But I’m so glad we found you.” “Me too.” said Lucy. “Where are we?” asked Emma. “No idea.” said Lucy “But, it’s so cold.” The girls all huddled together trying to keep warm. Santa was flying by trying to catch a cat that was causing some trouble to the village when he spotted the girls.“You're lucky this time Yule Cat!” he yelled flying to the girls. He picked them up, put them in his sleigh, put a blanket on them and yelled “On
Dasher, on Prancer, on Vixen!” and so on. “What’s going on? Lucy said. “I think we’re in Santa's sleigh.” Anna said. “Oh Anna, you're so funny.” said Lucy. “No look!” Lucy and Emma looked in front, finding Santa steering the sleigh. “I believe you noticed me.” Santa said. “Oh My Gosh!” said Lucy.”Are you…” “Yes Lucy,” said Santa interrupting her. “How do you know my name?” asked Lucy. “I know everybody.” Santa replied. “Where are you taking us?” Emma asked. “Home.” He said. “How did you get here?” “We fell in a portal.” Anna said. “I know who did it.” Santa said. “There’s a crazy and dangerous Yule Cat around here.” “Do you go Ho ho ho?” asked Lucy. “That’s a myth.” He replied. “Look!” Emma screamed. “We’re back in Cresskill!
The girls jumped off the sleigh. “Will we ever see you again?” asked Anna. “Maybe.” Santa said. “Anything can happen on Christmas.” The girls thanked Santa and walked inside Lucy’s house. “Woah! Look, it's snowing!” cried Lucy looking out the window. “Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas Lucy, Anna and Emma!”cried Santa. “Want to go play?!" asked Lucy. “Yes!” said Anna and Emma. The three girls played in the snow until it was time to sing songs and eat, Together.
Zoo VS
Zoos should still exist because zoos protect animals from extinction, and they keep them healthy. Zoo keepers will make sure the animals are safe, and they will shower them, feed them and much more. Also, many zoos entertain kids and adults. Kids can learn about animals, and even adults might learn something too! If there were no zoos in the world, kids would not be as educated with animals, and it would be very tough for people to see different types of animals. I know that not all zoos have the nicest homes for animals, but you should check out the zoo in Austria! The name of this zoo is Tiergarten Schoenbrunn. This zoo keeps their animals in humongous cages, which lets the animals roam around their cage freely. They also surround the cage with things that belong in their habitat, which can help the animal get used to it quickly. Also, animals that live in the cold have a special spot in the zoo. Many zoos have a “holding area” where they keep animals that live in cold places. These reasons are very clear, that zoos should still exist.

No Zoos
Zoos should be completely banned because keeping animals in captivity could be bad for their health. Zoos do nothing more than help some endangered animals and entertain kids. For example, animals that live in the cold should NOT be in a zoo because in the summertime, they may not be able to adapt to hot temperatures. Some zoos have hunters pay to kill the unwanted, old, and weak animals for meat, and doing that to animals is very cruel. Additionally, animals are kept in small cages, that don’t let them roam freely. Even though it keeps children educated and entertained, instead of having children stare at the animals, they can just grab a book or look at a website to learn more about animals.
Animals are also technically being trapped in unnatural habitats. Animals that are taken from the wild might not be able to adapt to the zoo. Some animals die prematurely due to the lack of natural habitat in the zoo. A study found that animals gain anxiety because they feel like they can’t escape the terrible habitat they are being put in and think that they are being threatened. I think it is understandable that zoos should be banned, and they should’ve been banned a while ago.

By Koharu KawabataDid you know cute little penguins are birds. They lay eggs and live in Antarctica. Even though they are birds, they can’t fly, but they are great swimmers. There are also 18 species of penguins! Mommy penguins lay the eggs, but daddy penguins are the ones that have to warm the egg up until it hatches. They use their fluffy warm fur, while mommy penguins are doing the long journey with the other bunch of mommy penguins to the ocean to search for food. While on the long journey, probably the eggs will hatch.. Mommy penguins walk so slow that it takes so much time for them to get to the water. When they do, they swallow a lot of small fish and squids. When they have enough, mommy penguins go back to their home, taking again such a long time. When mommy penguins finally get near the home, they cry very loudly so that daddy penguins and babies can hear them. All daddy penguins know what kind of voice their mommy has so they can find each other quickly. Mommy penguin feeds her hungry newborn baby, and spits out the food she swallowed into her baby’s mouth so that the baby can eat. Now, it’s daddy penguin’s turn to do the long cold journey. Penguin parents repeat this until their baby are old enough.
The Pizza Poll
By Lana Mitovski and Katie RheeWhile we were eating a delicious slice of pizza, we wondered how many people liked certain pizza toppings . We decided to do a poll. We questioned 3rd and 4th graders and found our results not very surprising, but some things were very surprising. Starting with 3rd grade, we found out that NO ONE liked vegetable or meatball pizza. The most votes were on pepperoni pizza, not that surprising. Then with 4th grade, all the categories had at least one person on their side. Overall, pepperoni won for both grades with 65% of votes, not that crazy. Maybe you should look at the score and see if you agree.
Student vs.
The Clippers are a good team but you cannot compare them to the awesome Boston Celtics! Clippers do have James Harden who is good but he is old now. And Jayson Tatum is yung and very good with so much future! As of today 2/11/24 the Celtics are 50 and 14 and the Clippers are 41 and 22 as of 2/11/24. The Clippers have one of the worst defenses in the league because if they lost 22 games that means their defense is not that good! Boston’s defense is good because they only lost 14 games. Thank you Jrue Holiday, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis! BOSTON IS THE BEST!!!

I am not super familiar with how the NBA is doing these days, but I talked to my son, Jacob, who follows it more, and he gave me some good insight. It sounds like the Celtics are a really great team, but the Clippers have a solid chance at the Championship too. He told me they have one of the best defenses in the league, and I think defense is the most important part of any game. He also told me they have players like James Harden, who will likely end up in the Hall of Fame. Their record is currently 27-7, which I think is pretty good too. I also like it when the underdogs win. So even if the Celtics are better in stats and more likely to win, I like when a team comes back to beat a team like that. I think the Clippers could make it happen. I also just love Los Angeles too-- so I like teams from there. It's my happy place to visit.

By: Samantha LeeOnce upon a time, a girl named Tomer owned a pet monkey named Tom Tom, and he was pink. Tom Tom was Tomer’s best friend. One day, Tom Tom went for a walk and got lost and didn’t know where to go. Tomer was at home playing a game when she noticed that Tom Tom was gone. “Tom Tom…where are you>” But nobody responded. Tomer suddenly felt panicked. She was so devastated when she saw the front door open. “Oh no! My Tom Tom!” She started to cry but then had an idea to make missing posters. She immediately got to work make many of them with Tom Tom’s photo on it, and then went around town putting them up. She prayed someone would find her Tom Tom. That evening Tomer couldn’t even eat because she was so sad. Right then, the phone rang and it was a lady who had great news. She said she saw the poster and found Tom Tom in her backyard crying. Tomer was so excited and so happy. She quickly gave the lady her address. Within ten minutes, the lady came over with Tom Tom. When Tom Tom saw Tomer, he hugged her as hard as he could. The two were so happy to be together again. From that day on, she always stayed with Tom Tom, and they lived happily ever after.
