Anthem Community Council Honors Dennis Salisbury with the 2023 Veterans Service Award Photos courtesy of Anthem Community Council DURING THE VETERANS DAY CEREMONY HELD NOVEMBER 11, THE ANTHEM COMMUNITY COUNCIL (ACC) RECOGNIZED DENNIS SALISBURY AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2023 ANTHEM VETERANS SERVICE AWARD. Created by the ACC in 2013 and presented annually, the award recognizes an individual or group
demonstrating “extraordinary service and selfless dedication in support of our nation’s veterans.” His role as a veteran leader in the North Phoenix community began many years ago. Salisbury is one of those veterans who knows only how to say "yes" or "how may I help" and his involvement spans veteran event and activity in Anthem for years, including the Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies, visits to veterans at the federal penitentiary, working with Youth for Troops on many projects, and helping veteran families in need. Sourced from the nomination, Salisbury’s contributions made an impact, "Because of this individual's tireless hours and selfless dedication in support of our veterans, Anthem is a much greater place. The Anthem Veterans Memorial activities are elevated due to his assistance and countless veterans have been positively honored, supported, and saluted by him in ways we may never know.” A plaque with the names of all recipients is on display at the Anthem Civic Building. Hiking for a Cause
Join the Ray of Hope Hike for the Kids to support homeless youth. THE ANTHEM ROTARY CLUB IS INVITING COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO STEP INTO THE NEW YEAR WITH PURPOSE AND COMPASSION DURING THEIR INAUGURAL RAY OF HOPE HIKE FOR THE KIDS. This charity event, scheduled for Monday, Jan. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., aims to raise funds for local high school students experiencing homelessness. Set in the scenic Cave Creek Regional Park, the event offers participants a chance to explore the Overton Loop Trail, a 3.5-mile trek known for its moderate challenge and stunning desert vistas. Hikers will assemble at the ramadas north of the Nature Center, with check-in starting from 9 a.m. The hike, starting at 10 a.m., will be organized in staggered groups to accommodate varying paces, ensuring an inclusive experience for all.
The Ray of Hope Hike is more than just a physical journey; it's a mission to support the Ray Norris Youth at Risk program. This initiative, spearheaded by the Anthem Rotary Foundation, aims to assist teenagers in the Anthem area who are grappling with the challenges of homelessness. By providing these students with essential items like hygiene products, clothing, and meal cards, the program plays a critical role in helping them stay in school and pursue graduation.
Participation in the Ray of Hope Hike carries a dual benefit: while enjoying the natural beauty of Cave Creek Regional Park, hikers also contribute to a noble cause. The funds raised will directly support the Anthem Rotary Foundation's efforts to provide a lifeline to at-risk youth in the area.
