This month, we are sharing insight from Niraj Gupta, MD, Medical Oncologist and Hematologist with Franciscan Physician Network Oncology & Hematology Specialists in Carmel. As a cancer specialist, he guides patients through breast cancer and other cancer diagnoses, helping them understand their condition and choose the right treatment path.
(promotional content)
Q: Over the past several years, how have breast cancer screenings, treatments and outcomes advanced, and what are you most encouraged by?
A: Screening has come a long way. With newer tools like 3D mammograms and artificial intelligence, we’re able to catch cancers earlier—even in women with dense breast tissue. For most women, the recommendation is a yearly mammogram starting at age 40, but we can tailor screening to each woman’s personal risk.
Treatment is also far more individualized now. Instead of a “one-size-fits-all” approach, we look at the cancer’s genetic makeup and choose therapies
designed to target it directly. Immunotherapies are offering hope for more aggressive cancers. Thanks to these advances, the five-year survival rate for early-stage breast cancer is now over 90%. What excites me most is being able to match the right treatment to the right person—helping women live longer and feel better during their journey.
Q: What recommendations do you give women when it comes to prevention and early detection?
A: The most important step is to start annual mammograms at age 40, or earlier if you have a family history. Mammograms can spot cancer years before a lump can be felt. It’s also
important to know what’s normal for your body. If you notice changes in your breasts, don’t ignore them. And make sure to schedule a yearly checkup with your primary doctor or gynecologist.
Q: What are some of the most common misconceptions about breast cancer that you’d like to clear up?
A: A lot of women believe breast cancer is mostly inherited, but only about 5 to 10 percent of cases are caused by genetic mutations. Having a mom or sister with breast cancer doesn’t mean you’ll definitely get it.
We all have BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which normally help
repair DNA. But when those genes are mutated, they increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. If you’re worried about your risk, talk with your provider. At Franciscan, we offer genetic counseling, testing, and even a high-risk clinic to guide women with elevated risk.
Q: How important is community support—both inside the hospital and beyond—for patients and their families?
A: It’s absolutely vital. A cancer diagnosis isn’t just about the body. It affects your mind and spirit, too. At Franciscan, we surround patients with care through support groups, survivorship programs, assistance services and spiritual care. Just as important, family and friends provide comfort in everyday ways, like making meals, giving rides or simply being there to listen. That kind of support makes a tremendous difference.
Q: Looking ahead, what developments in research or treatment give you the most hope?
A: I’m very hopeful about new ways to detect breast cancer earlier. Artificial intelligence is helping radiologists find even the smallest changes on mammograms, and blood tests may one day be able to flag cancer before symptoms appear. Treatments are also becoming more precise, attacking cancer cells while
protecting healthy ones. And perhaps most importantly, there’s a growing focus on making these advances accessible to everyone, no matter where they live or their background.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?
A: Yes—know what’s normal for your body and don’t wait for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to pay attention to your health. Annual mammograms are key, but so is listening to your body. Partner with your healthcare team, stay proactive, and remember— you don’t have to face these concerns alone.
Dr. Gupta’s work is highly collaborative, drawing on a multidisciplinary team of radiologists, breast surgeons, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons and genetic counselors. That same team approach is available to every patient at Franciscan Physician Network Oncology & Hematology
Specialists in Carmel, where comprehensive, personalized cancer care is just a call away.

Interior Designer Heidi Woodman brings an artist’s eye and a storyteller’s sensibility to every project from local homes to international commissions.
By SuSaN Salaz
Interior designer Heidi Woodman blends art, history and craftsmanship with client narratives to create spaces that feel both timeless and deeply personal.
(promotional content)
On a Monday morning, Heidi Woodman might be walking a client through final touches on a local installation. A plaster wall glows as sunlight shifts across its surface, textiles are unfurled and considered, a carefully chosen vintage chair is moved until it feels just right. By midweek, her attention shifts to drawings for a new build in Colorado or sourcing one-of-a-kind pieces for a California project. And in the background, she is fielding updates from Ireland, where approvals for a historic renovation are finally moving forward. It is a schedule that stretches across states and continents, yet for Heidi it is never about volume. Each project is an opportunity to weave history, materiality and the client’s personal story into something deeply meaningful.
“Materiality is usually my bridge,” she explains. “Plaster, wood, textiles… those timeless elements can carry historic resonance while still meeting modern needs for comfort, durability or sustainability. I like to think of each project as a dialogue. A historic reference might come through as a texture, a color palette or a crafted detail, but it’s always in conversation with the client’s personal story.”
That story-first approach is also rooted in Heidi’s background in fine art—she studied painting and sculpture at Herron School of Art, honing a sensitivity to form, color and texture. The discipline of layering pigment on canvas or shaping clay into form still informs her interiors today. “That training
gave me a way of seeing,” she reflects. “I learned how to balance negative space with movement, how to use restraint as much as detail. Those same principles guide me in design.”
While art shapes her conceptual lens, it is her devotion to artisanal craftsmanship and one-of-a-kind pieces that sets her work apart. “I’ve always prioritized artisanal craftsmanship and vintage furnishings because they carry a depth and authenticity that mass-produced pieces just can’t offer,” she says. “For clients, that translates into spaces that feel like no one else’s. They don’t just see a beautiful chair or table—they know it has a history, a provenance, or was crafted with them specifically in mind.”
Her work is richly layered, often mixing vintage finds, commissioned pieces and client treasures into interiors that feel collected rather than curated. The result is a home that carries emotional resonance as well as beauty. Heidi spends countless hours sourcing and curating, from digging through European markets to collaborating directly with makers, ensuring each room carries details that feel quietly luxurious. “It creates a sense of connection,” she notes. “The space doesn’t just feel designed—it feels meaningful.”
Equally important to Heidi is the culture she’s built inside her firm. Her small, carefully chosen team brings together a range of perspectives and skills from art school training to client-side experience. “These choices have created a culture that is both purpose-driven and collaborative,” she says. “My team feels invested and valued which shows up in the creativity
Heidi and her team create richly layered interiors that balance history, art and personal story—spaces that feel timeless, collected and deeply meaningful.
At Heidi Woodman Interiors, each space is built around artisanal craftsmanship, one-of-a-kind pieces and a client’s unique narrative.
and care they bring to each project. On the client side, the transparency and flexibility build trust. Clients feel part of a process that is professional and deeply human.”
That balance between deep creativity, transparency and humanity has also shaped Heidi’s entrepreneurial path. For years, she imagined her firm growing into a larger operation. But in time, she realized that expansion was not aligned with her vision. Instead, she chose a slower, more intentional approach to growth—protecting the creativity that fuels her work and ensuring that each project truly resonates.
As both a leader and a designer, Heidi relies on authenticity, humor and honesty. “Authenticity keeps me grounded,” she says. “Humor allows me to lighten the process and reminds us that even the most serious projects should be approached with a sense of play. And honesty, especially the kind that is compassionate and clear, is my anchor. It’s how I give feedback, communicate with clients and make tough calls in the creative process.” Those values show up in unexpected ways: a moment of laughter that eases the tension of a high-stakes presentation, a candid conversation that builds trust, or the quiet steadiness that keeps her team aligned. Together, they make the process feel as human as it is creative.
Looking ahead, Heidi is preparing for a new chapter. In 2027, she will open a second location on the East Coast close to family in Massachusetts while moving her Indiana studio to Zionsville. She’ll also launch her long-awaited Ireland project—a commission that embodies her philosophy
of weaving together history, art and personal story. Slow growth guided by clarity and values continues to define her future. “Design can be intense, emotional, overwhelming,” she says. “But when we keep story at the center, when we honor both the client and the craft, it becomes something more. It becomes art and it becomes alive.”

For Heidi Woodman, growth has never been about chasing numbers or expansion for its own sake. After years of imagining her firm as a larger operation, she realized that taking on more projects often diluted the creativity that defined her work. “I decided to scale down and only take projects that resonate with my belief and branding,” she explains. Today, her firm accepts roughly ten percent of inquiries and maintains project minimums that protect both quality and integrity. By remaining selective, Heidi ensures each commission receives her full attention and aligns with her values. The result is a practice that balances local roots with national and international reach, offering clients an experience that is thoughtful, crafted and never diluted.

Crissy Wiseman Wise Aesthetics, Owner/Nurse Practitioner
As a board-certified nurse practitioner, Crissy Wiseman brings both clinical expertise and a passion for natural beauty to her role as founder of Wise Aesthetics. For her, aesthetics is about refinement, not reinvention. She has built her practice around a philosophy of subtle transformation—helping patients look refreshed, confident, and entirely themselves. “I believe that aesthetics should enhance someone’s unique features, not alter them,” she explains. That perspective informs every detail of her practice, from patient education to treatment planning, ensuring clients leave feeling empowered and proud of their results.
Wise Aesthetics blends the luxury of a spa-like experience with the precision of advanced medical care. The team’s expertise—shaped by high patient volume and ongoing education— ensures that every treatment is grounded in skill. From injectables and regenerative therapies to next-generation devices like Halo, BBL, and Moxi, patients receive care tailored to their needs, supported by medical-grade skincare and nutraceuticals. It’s modern, elevated, evidence-based, and always designed to look natural.
The aesthetics industry itself has also evolved. Once considered indulgent, treatments like injectables and laser resurfacing are now embraced as part of proactive self-care.
For Wiseman, leadership in this changing landscape means setting a higher standard. “Patients today are more informed and open, but social media trends can push things in the opposite direction. Our responsibility is to create a safe, trusted, evidence-based environment that values integrity and natural outcomes,” she says.
Wise Aesthetics is more than a medspa, Wiseman emphasizes. “We are a partner in long-term confidence and well-being, whether someone is seeking preventative care in their 20s or advanced treatments later in life.”

Kena Hollingsworth Hollingsworth Law Group, Founder & Attorney
Few attorneys bring as much personal understanding to their practice as Kena Hollingsworth. Having experienced both the pain of divorce as a child and the peace of an amicable separation in her adult life, she built Hollingsworth Law Group on the belief that families deserve a process defined by compassion and respect. “Divorce really can be a process of dignity, healing, and even healthier relationships on the other side,” she says. “At Hollingsworth Law Group, our motto, Divorce Done Differently, is not just a slogan— it’s the heart of everything we do. It’s how we practice law.”
Kena’s modern perspective on leadership is evident in the way she reimagines her industry. Where family law once prioritized a “bulldog” approach focused on litigation and “winning,” she has embraced a more holistic model that values emotional intelligence alongside legal expertise. “More and more, people are seeking a peaceful uncoupling. They need to feel seen, heard, and cared for. They want (and deserve) to be treated as individuals experiencing uniquely difficult transitions. No two cases are the same, and each deserves an appropriately unique legal approach,” she notes.
Innovation is central to her work, integrating certified divorce and relationship coaches into the legal team to offer clients support that extends beyond strategy and into the emotional realities of transition. She explains, “By offering coaching alongside legal strategy, we help clients navigate with greater clarity, calm, and confidence.” Kena insists that if you are walking through divorce or family challenges, you don’t have to do so alone— and there is a way forward that doesn’t destroy relationships or drain your spirit.
Hollingsworth Law Group recently moved into a new building at 230 N. Rangeline Road. Brianna Doles Penn & Beech Candle Co., Owner
For Brianna Doles, creating meaningful experiences has always been the driving force of her ambition. Her first career as a dental hygienist may seem far from owning a candle business, but the connection is clear: she loved helping people feel at ease in a space where comfort didn’t come naturally. That same instinct for hospitality guided her when she and her sister-in-law began pouring candles in their basements—a passion that soon grew into their first Penn & Beech brick & mortar shop in downtown Indianapolis.
Today, with five locations, a nationwide ecommerce business and a robust private label program, Penn & Beech is more than a candle shop—it’s a gathering place. Guests are invited to slow down, design their own fragrances and craft something entirely unique. “Scent is deeply personal,” Brianna says. “Why not let people create their own?” What results is not just a candle, but a memory shared with friends and family.
At the heart of Penn & Beech is connection. Brianna’s values of kindness, inclusivity and time well spent with loved ones inform every part of the business, from the Fragrance Bar to the way her team greets each guest. Leading with empathy, she emphasizes flexibility and purpose in the workplace, knowing that a supported, inspired staff naturally creates better experiences for customers.
Being an entrepreneur today, Brianna says, looks very different than when she began. It’s no longer just about the product, but about building community, showing up authentically and listening deeply—both to her team and her customers. For her, the joy is in that evolution: “Customers want transparency and experiences that feel meaningful, not just transactional—and that shift has been exciting for us to grow with.”

Amy Kreutz
THREAD Design Group, Principal & Lead Designer
For Amy Kreutz, CKD, cabinetry is more than millwork—it’s the foundation of how people experience their homes every day. With over 25 years of expertise, she has built a reputation for turning cabinetry into a design focal point, blending artistry and function with a distinctly modern perspective.
Amy began her career in the kitchen and bath sector, where she honed her skills in cabinetry and space planning. Over time, she recognized that cabinetry often sets the tone for an entire space. That insight inspired her to launch THREAD Design Group, where cabinetry remains at the heart of her work while connecting seamlessly with other design elements. Her expertise in CAD technology allows her to bring refinement and clarity to every design, partnering with select vendors who can engineer cabinetry with flawless precision. Her philosophy emphasizes curiosity, collaboration and design that reflects the individuality of each client. Her approach rejects one-size-fits-all solutions. “We want our clients to push beyond their comfort zone, explore every possibility, and then return to the solution that feels uniquely their own,” she explains. Whether sleek and contemporary or rooted in classic detailing, her designs respect the architecture of a home while pushing possibilities forward.
Beyond kitchens and baths, Amy is often commissioned to extend her vision throughout the home. From living areas to mudrooms and media spaces, she approaches each project as a layered composition—balancing practicality with artistry and ensuring every detail contributes to a cohesive, personal environment. “Everyone is affected by design,” she says. “We are all threaded together through design. Ayres & Co., where she learned the importance of listening closely, paying attention to details and crafting whimsical experiences. When the opportunity came to step into ownership at Kits & Kaboodle in 2004, she poured those values into the business, shaping it into a community treasure where play is taken seriously.
Raised in a home where Broadway and basketball coexisted, Teneen inherited a deep appreciation for both creativity and teamwork. “Whether it’s a game that sparks competition or a toy that inspires imagination, I believe play should nurture both sides of a child—the dreamer and the doer,” she says. That philosophy guides every decision, from product selection to customer experience.
In today’s fast-changing retail landscape, she embraces adaptability. Technology, supply chain challenges and shifting trends have all required quick pivots, but her commitment to resilience and creativity has kept the shop thriving. “Today, Kits & Kaboodle has become more than a store,” she explains. “It’s a gathering place for curious kids, thoughtful parents and playful souls of all ages.” Located at Carmel City Center, the store reflects Teneen’s love for community, collaboration and connection. Recently, her role as grandmother has added new joy and perspective to her work, a reminder that toys have the power to light up both a child’s day and a family’s story.

Dr. Amy Marckese, DDS
The Dental Spa, Founder and Dentist
Defy of Indiana, Founder
For more than two decades, Dr. Amy Marckese has redefined what it means to care for yourself—inside and out. At The Dental Spa, now celebrating 21 years and a brandnew home near Keystone at the Crossing, she blends advanced dentistry with spa-like comforts. Patients are greeted with calm lighting, soothing music, and thoughtful touches like complimentary hand massages. “Nobody likes going to the dentist,” she says. “From the beginning, I wanted to create an experience that feels welcoming, relaxing, and even pampering.” Dr. Amy’s artistry extends to cosmetic treatments, Botox, and smile makeovers, where she is known for transforming confidence as much as appearances. “It’s amazing to watch someone’s whole energy shift when they finally love their smile,” she says.
Her second venture, Defy of Indiana, grew out of her own pursuit of change. “I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired,” she shares. “Once I found functional medicine, everything changed—and I wanted to bring that experience to others.” Opened in 2023, Defy specializes in functional medicine, hormone optimization, and weight management for both women and men.
Balancing two thriving businesses takes intention, but Dr. Amy credits her longevity to surrounding herself with the right people. “I’ve been lucky to work with many of the same team members since day one,” she says. “That kind of trust and connection carries through to our patients, who truly feel like family.” For Dr. Amy, modern entrepreneurship is about more than growth—it’s about genuine care. “Helping people feel good, inside and out, is what lights me up,” she says.

Jean Easter
Easter Conservation Services, Owner
At Easter Conservation Services, every project begins with a simple question: how can a treasured piece be honored, protected and enjoyed for years to come? Jean Easter has built her studio around that philosophy, offering museum-quality conservation along with archival matting, custom framing, art placement and consulting services. From conserving damaged heirlooms to sourcing fine European antique frames, her team approaches each object with equal parts expertise and care.
For Jean, running a business in 2025 means adapting to shifting expectations while staying true to timeless values. “Being an entrepreneur in today’s market, while challenging, is also an exciting time for redevelopment and pushing the envelope,” she says. “We’ve become much more attuned to clients’ needs and wishes, often anticipating the next service they may need before they realize it.” That intuition and focus on connection shapes the client experience every step of the way. She explains that a visit to the shop is like a step back to a time when relationships take precedence over fast retail. “We cater to each person and make sure the ‘awe’ factor is incorporated into each design,” she says.
Attention to detail has always defined her craft, but Jean believes it matters now more than ever. “Working harder, with greater focus on detail and service, is at the heart of what we do,” she adds. It’s a modern perspective rooted in old-world artistry, ensuring every client leaves with not only a finished piece, but a renewed sense of connection to the art they love.
Visit Easter Conservation Services at 1134 East 54th Street in Indianapolis for art conservation, framing services and more. For more information, find easterconservation.com online and follow @easter_conservation on Instagram.
Elizabeth Lechleiter 8FIFTEEN, Owner
For Elizabeth Lechleiter, the heart of 8FIFTEEN is as much about people as it is about clothes. Raised with the values of hard work and perseverance, she brings that same focus to her boutique in Broad Ripple— balancing the bottom line with a passion for helping women express themselves through style. “I’ve always been an empath,” she shares. “Fashion gives me a way to connect with people on a deeper level. It’s a marriage of creativity and care that I never expected, but absolutely love.”
Owning a boutique in today’s environment means navigating both competition and constant change. While national retailers and online shopping present daily challenges, Elizabeth views them as opportunities to refine her vision. “Competition isn’t a bad thing,” she says. “It pushes us to be better and reminds me to stay true to what makes 8FIFTEEN unique.” That individuality shines through in her carefully edited mix of wardrobe staples and statement pieces— looks that feel effortless yet encourage women to step just outside their comfort zones.
Equally important to Elizabeth is creating experiences that go beyond shopping. From pop-ups with fellow local entrepreneurs to private in-store events, she continues to foster community and loyalty around the boutique. And with the support of her store manager, Claire Lechleiter, and a dedicated team, Elizabeth has grown 8FIFTEEN into a destination that thrives on connection, creativity, and confidence.

Shelby Dempsey
The Sixpence, Westwood Vowery & Estate, and Foundations, Founder
For Shelby Dempsey, hospitality is about more than planning weddings or hosting events— it’s about creating spaces where life’s most meaningful moments unfold with intention and style. As founder of The Sixpence, she has built a reputation for curating experiences that balance thoughtful detail with effortless elegance. Now, she is bringing that same vision to her newest endeavor, Westwood | Vowery & Estate, a purpose-built event venue opening in spring 2026. Set on 10 beautiful acres, the estate features a clean, modern design base with European architectural influence. Designed and built completely from scratch, Westwood is for couples and clients seeking events defined by both beauty and ease.
Dempsey attributes her growth as an entrepreneur to three guiding principles: do your research, take action, and remain curious. While taking action may be the most important step in kick-starting the journey, Shelby believes it’s remaining curious that helps her companies stay relevant and adapt in the market. “In 2025, being an industry leader requires a certain humility and curiosity that I don’t feel is always championed in today’s culture,” she explains, adding, “I hope to always be an entrepreneur and leader who remains joyfully curious in the face of a changing world, an ever-expanding client list, and a growing team.”
Those principles are reflected in every corner of her businesses. At The Sixpence, her team continually curates new offerings in response to couples’ needs, while Westwood is being shaped with the same heart for excellence and adaptability. Through Foundations, her in-house planning and design arm, Shelby extends that standard of service even further, ensuring couples at both venues experience seamless, personalized care from first vision to final toast.
Westwood is now accepting reservations for 2026 and beyond, with a grand opening celebration planned for April 2026. Plan to attend the Fall Party at Westwood on October 18, 2025, to meet the team and learn more about the venue. For more information, visit westwoodvenue.com, thesixpence.com, and foundationswp.com.

Shallan Hazlewood
Lunch Money Boutique, Owner
When Shallan Hazlewood opened Lunch Money Boutique, she quickly discovered that running a luxury children’s retail store required more than just a love for fashion and family. “I had to face the fact that passion alone wouldn’t be enough, and the smartest move I made was asking for help,” she reflects. What once felt like a weakness became her strength, as she built a team whose expertise shapes everything from buying to customer service.
With a focus on refinement, Shallan has leaned into clarity—both of brand and customer. “You can’t be everything to everyone,” she says. Instead, Lunch Money curates high-quality children’s clothing from brands rarely found in the Midwest. Guests often remark how much more impressive the quality, construction, and design are when experienced in person, making the boutique a true destination for families who value craftsmanship and style.
Beyond fashion, Shallan emphasizes that Lunch Money is also about community. The boutique has become a gathering place where parents discover not only unique clothing, but also toys, accessories, and the joy of shopping in a welcoming environment. She encourages customers to slow down and savor the boutique experience—a refreshing contrast to fast fashion or anonymous online shopping.
For Shallan, the mission extends beyond her own shop. She champions the Broad Ripple and Butler-Tarkington neighborhoods as shopping gems, encouraging families to explore local boutiques as well as restaurants. “Shopping locally not only strengthens our home economy, it fuels the small businesses that give Indy and its neighborhoods such color and unique character,” she says.

Korie Lance
The Mae Salon & Spa, Owner, Stylist & Life Coach
Korie Lance, owner of The Mae Salon & Spa in Indianapolis, is redefining beauty with a philosophy that blends outer style with inner wellness. As the visionary behind Indiana’s first benefit corporation salon, she has created more than a destination for cuts and color— it’s a community rooted in empowerment, self-discovery, and care.
From her early days giving makeovers to friends, Korie recognized her calling to uplift others through beauty. That passion inspired The Mae, where her mantra “look good, feel good, do good” shapes every service— from expert haircare and spa treatments to personalized coaching programs that nurture the whole person. Under her leadership, The Mae has earned recognition among the Top 200 Salons in the Nation and Salon of the Year, but accolades aren’t the measure of success for Korie and her team. What matters most is helping clients rediscover their confidence and embrace their authentic selves. “Beauty doesn’t look one way,” Korie emphasizes. “It’s about celebrating diversity and reminding people that they’re already enough.”
Korie also brings a modern perspective to an industry often defined by trends and surfacelevel change. By focusing on authenticity, wellness, and sustainability, she and her team are shaping what the future of beauty can look like. “We try to stand out by going against the status quo—encouraging women to honor their natural beauty and cultivate it from the inside out,” she says. Dr. Tara Emerick Emerick Orthodontics, Founder and Board-Certified Orthodontist
For Dr. Tara Emerick, orthodontics is about far more than straight teeth—it’s about building confidence that lasts a lifetime.
“I believe everyone deserves a smile they feel proud of,” she says. That philosophy drives the personalized options at Emerick Orthodontics, from complimentary consultations to flexible treatments that fit seamlessly into each patient’s lifestyle. She even offers a 10-week affordable “tune-up” designed for parents and adults who stopped wearing their retainers years ago but want to restore their perfect smile.

Patients today seek more than clinical expertise; they value connection, transparency, and convenience. At her boutique practice in Carmel’s Village of West Clay, innovation is central. Gabrielle McDougle
The Modern Collective Salon, Founder
For Gabrielle McDougle, founder of The Modern Collective Salon, hair extensions are about more than appearances—they’re about confidence. “I’ve always loved the instant gratification of transforming someone’s look and helping them leave feeling better than when they first walked in,” she says. That feeling inspired her to create a salon where guests experience both transformation and genuine care.
At The Modern Collective, Gabbie ensures every detail feels safe, welcoming, and personal. “Extensions can be such a vulnerable subject,” she explains. “When someone walks through our doors, I want them to feel at ease—never judged, but truly seen and celebrated.” Beyond great results, she prioritizes communication and education, guiding each guest through the process while keeping their hair health at the center. This philosophy extends to her team, where kindness, positivity, and support shape the salon’s culture, creating an environment where stylists and clients alike feel part of a community. “My value system shapes everything—from how I lead to how we care for every guest—always with the goal of helping people leave feeling better than when they arrived.”
Being an entrepreneur today, Gabbie notes, looks very different than even five years ago. Social media, fast-moving education, and ever-changing trends mean that leadership is about more than artistry. “It’s no longer just about running a salon—it’s about creating a brand, building relationships, and focusing on the overall experience,” she says. With that mindset, The Modern Collective continues to set the standard for luxury that feels approachable and inclusive.

October is National Pizza Month, and there’s no better excuse to savor the flavors of Indy’s favorite locally owned pizzerias. These restaurants have built loyal followings by combining tradition, creativity and community—one slice at a time.
At Arni’s, a Hoosier institution celebrating 60 years, thin-crust, party-cut pies continue to bring generations of families together. Bazbeaux Pizza, with its Carmel Arts & Design District outpost, is known for inventive combinations and a vibrant neighborhood vibe. Pizzology blends scratch-made quality with seasonal flair, firing pizzas that balance bold flavors with a strong sense of place. And at I Tre Mori, a gleaming hand-tiled oven anchors a menu rooted in true Neapolitan tradition, offering both timeless favorites and fall-perfect specialties.
Together, these four restaurants showcase the best of Indianapolis’s local pizza scene—deliciously diverse, deeply connected to the community and always ready to welcome you back for another slice.
(promotional content)
At I Tre Mori, authenticity starts with flavor. The heart of the restaurant is its wood-burning oven, imported from Modena, Italy, in over a hundred pieces of natural stone and painstakingly built by hand. Outside, its gleaming green mosaic makes the oven a centerpiece—a work of art as strikingly beautiful as the pizzas it creates are delicious. Inside, the 1,000-degree fire blisters each crust in under a minute, lending that distinctive smoky flavor of true Neapolitan tradition.
The menu balances classics with seasonal creations, from the year-round Napoletana with San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella and basil to the fall-perfect Pizza Delicata topped with gorgonzola, pears, arugula, walnuts and fig chutney. Gluten-free crusts ensure everyone can enjoy a slice. Beyond pizza, the menu highlights time-honored Italian recipes, from handmade pastas to housemade gelato, paired with seasonal entrées and rotating drink specials. This fall, half-price wine bottles on Tuesdays, half-price cocktails on Wednesdays, and a lively live music series make it easy to turn dinner into an evening out. The bar is a favorite for catching a Colts or college football game, while the patio is ideal for crisp autumn nights.
“Although we didn’t grow up in Indianapolis, this community has embraced us and the restaurant from the very beginning,” the owners share. “It’s amazing to see familiar faces alongside new ones each night.” With welcoming service, a passion for tradition and unforgettable flavors, I Tre Mori has become a gathering place to savor food, friendship and a true taste of Italy.
Find I Tre Mori at 38220 E. 106th St., Ste. 200, Indianapolis. Explore the menu at itremorifishers.com and follow @i_tre_mori on Instagram.
Since opening in 1986, Bazbeaux Pizza has been a true Indianapolis original— an independent pizzeria that helped shape the city’s pizza scene with its inventive combinations and unwavering focus on quality. With locations in Broad Ripple, Mass Ave and Carmel’s Arts & Design District, it’s a destination for both casual weeknights and special outings.
“The local pizza scene has changed a lot in the last 40 years—Detroit style, Chicago style, New York style, wood-fired—but we’ve stayed true to our roots,” says owner Jeff Berman. “We make our dough fresh daily, use abundant high-quality toppings, and serve it all with great service and atmosphere. That’s what keeps us relevant.” He adds that quality extends across the menu, from Chicago-sourced pepperoni to vegan toppings, gluten-free crusts and generous salads. Even delivery is kept in-house, ensuring pizzas arrive hot and handled by Bazbeaux’s own friendly drivers. Over the years, Bazbeaux has inspired other pizzerias across the city, but none quite capture the atmosphere and originality of the first.
Fall brings seasonal favorites, including the Quattro Formaggio with bacon, mushrooms and four cheeses, as well as the newly instated “pizza of the month” offering. This October, try the End of Summer pizza, with layers of caramelized onion, blue cheese, fresh rosemary and maple syrup for a distinctly autumn bite. Pair one with a bountiful salad, hearty sandwich, craft beer or glass from their wine list (with weekly drink specials to add to the appeal).
Find Bazbeaux at 111 W. Main Street, Carmel, offering a trailside patio perfect for enjoying on crisp fall days. Additional locations are found in Broad Ripple and downtown Indianapolis. View the menu at bazbeaux.com and follow @bazbeaux on Instagram.
This year marks 60 years since Arnold “Arni” Cohen opened the doors of his first pizza shop in Lafayette, launching a Hoosier tradition that has only grown stronger with time. Today, his sons Kurt and Brad Cohen carry on the family legacy with 17 locations across Indiana, including the 96th Street restaurant closest to Carmel. With its welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, Arni’s remains a go-to gathering place for families, teams and neighbors alike.
At Arni’s, the dining room is always full of energy—whether it’s kids celebrating after a big game, co-workers unwinding at happy hour, or longtime regulars catching up over a Junior Salad. Every Arni’s carries a sense of history while embracing the needs of today’s diners. Guests know they’ll find consistency in the classics, but they’re also surprised by thoughtful touches, from seasonal specials to expanded bar offerings that keep the menu fresh.
Famous for its thin-crust, party-cut pizzas, Arni’s still serves the classics that built its reputation—pepperoni, Rustica and Maui Zowie among them. This fall, try the staff favorite, Buffalo Chicken, with just the right kick. Beyond pizza, the menu extends to strombolis, hearty sandwiches and signature salads, all served with the kind of hospitality that has made Arni’s a household name. “We have multi-generations of loyal customers, and our core menu can’t change—people know it too well,” says Kurt Cohen. “But it’s important to innovate around it with new items that keep us current.” That balance of tradition and relevance ensures Arni’s stays a favorite for every generation.

To its loyal guests, Pizzology is more than a restaurant—it’s a place where families and friends gather, celebrate and grow together. Regulars have made it part of their routines, whether stopping in for a weeknight dinner, enjoying craft cocktails at the marble bar, or bringing out-of-town visitors for a true Carmel experience. “As a locally owned business, being a part of the Carmel community means everything to us,” says head chef Paul Robinson. “Without the community’s support we wouldn’t be here at all. Since 2009 we’ve been building relationships with loyal guests. We’ve seen families grow up in our restaurant and I feel like we’ve grown with them.”
The fall menu highlights the kitchen’s seasonal creativity with standout pies. The Roman Fig layers house-made porchetta, arugula, mozzarella and a sweet-spicy fig and fresno jam, while the Sausage & Squash combines fennel sausage, roasted butternut squash and caramelized onions with mozzarella and oregano. They join year-round favorites like the Bee Keeper, where honey drizzles over spicy soppressata for a bold, memorable bite.
At the heart of Pizzology is the wood-fired oven, delivering pizzas with perfectly blistered crusts and a depth of flavor only flame can achieve. Balanced by scratch-made pastas, Italian mussels in “magic broth,” and an atmosphere that hums with warmth and connection, Pizzology continues to define the communal spirit of Carmel dining. Every dish reflects the restaurant’s commitment to quality, from dough made fresh daily to sauces crafted in-house and ingredients sourced with care. It’s that dedication to detail that has kept guests coming back season after season, eager to discover both timeless favorites and inventive new creations.
