Dr. Amy Marckese, founder of DentalSpa, brings a fresh, calm approach to modern dentistry with spa-like amenities and cutting-edge technology.

With an eye for comfort and a heart for healing, Dr. Amy Marckese has spent the last two decades elevating the way we care for ourselves. Now, with a stunning new DentalSpa location and a thriving wellness brand, she’s blending beauty, balance and science into every experience.
(promotional content)
For most people, a trip to the dentist is something to be endured—not enjoyed. But for patients at DentalSpa, stepping through the doors feels more like entering a boutique retreat rather than a clinical office. That’s entirely by design, says Dr. Amy Marckese, now celebrating 21 years in her local practice. “We try not to feel like a dental office—because nobody likes going to the dentist,” says Dr. Amy, founder and lead dentist. “From the very beginning, I wanted to create an experience that made people feel comfortable, relaxed and even pampered.”
Launched in 2004, DentalSpa was among the first of its kind in the area, blending high-end clinical care with spa-inspired touches that calm the senses. Over the years, Dr. Amy and her team have built a fiercely loyal following thanks to thoughtful design (treatment rooms with TVs on the ceiling, calm music and soothing lighting), wellness-forward amenities (postappointment smoothies, complimentary hand and foot massages), and a genuine focus on relationships and trust.
That commitment to comfort and care is more vibrant than ever in the spa’s new location, which opened in May 2025 near Keystone at the Crossing after two decades in the original space. Designed to be even more welcoming and serene, the new office includes beautifully updated interiors and the latest in dental technology—from 3D printing and digital X-rays to same-day crowns and cosmetic treatments like Botox and lip filler. “We’re thrilled about the new space,” Dr. Amy
says. “It’s an extension of everything we believe in—high-quality dentistry delivered with heart, warmth and a little bit of luxury.” Though the environment is relaxing, the care is deeply results-driven. Dr. Amy is known for transformative cosmetic work and smile makeovers, often helping patients find the confidence they’ve long been missing. “There’s nothing better than seeing someone’s whole energy change when they finally love their smile,” she says. “You can tell when someone has been hiding behind it for years—and then suddenly, there they are.”
Even with 25 years of experience, Dr. Amy is still learning. She far exceeds the required amount of continuing education, regularly attending trainings and collaborating with specialists. “Most of the technology I use today didn’t even exist when I was in dental school,” says the Indiana University School of Dentistry alum. “I’m always evolving. I love it.”
That drive for growth is part of what led her to open a second business in 2023: Defy of Indiana, a wellness practice rooted in functional medicine, weight loss and hormone optimization. And like DentalSpa, it began with a personal spark. “I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired,” she recalls. “I was gaining weight, exhausted, unmotivated—just not myself. A patient told me about functional medicine, and once I tried it, everything changed.” After losing 100 pounds and rediscovering her sense of energy and joy, Dr. Amy found herself talking about hormones as often as dental care. She quickly realized she wasn’t alone. “Every woman over 40 I spoke to was feeling the same way. The more candid I was
Known for her warmth, energy and artistic eye, Dr. Amy Marckese specializes in cosmetic treatments that help patients smile with confidence.
As both a dentist and entrepreneur, Dr. Amy Marckese has redefined self-care in Carmel with the launch of Defy of Indiana, her wellness-focused second business.
about my journey, the more people opened up, too,” she explains. “I came to find out many men over 40 also need testosterone replacement to be the best versions of themselves. It isn’t only women who struggle with hormones—we just talk about it more!”
With the help of trusted friend and medical collaborator Dr. Tina Harrison, Defy of Indiana was born in Carmel. While Dr. Amy doesn’t treat patients directly there, she oversees the experience and works closely with the team to ensure it matches her high standards. And though her own story centered on perimenopause and hormone imbalance, Defy’s services support both women and men on their journey to optimal health. “At both places, it’s about helping people feel like the best version of themselves,” she says. “Whether that’s with their smile, balancing their hormones or losing weight.”
Running two successful businesses takes careful planning and plenty of passion. Dr. Amy splits her time between both locations, carving out Mondays for Defy and Tuesday through Friday for DentalSpa. She still writes every new patient and referral a personal note, makes time for daily workouts and spends weekends recharging with her family.
“It’s a lot, but I’ve learned to surround myself with the best and lean on my team,” she says. “I’ve been lucky to work with the same people since day one. Team longevity is a huge part of our culture.” That sense of connection carries over to her patients, many of whom she’s treated for years. “We’ve grown with our patients. I’ve watched kids go from their first dental visit
to college to weddings,” she says. “They’re like family.”
At both DentalSpa and Defy of Indiana, patient referrals remain the number-one driver of growth. And as the practices expand, Dr. Amy’s commitment to care, innovation and personal connection remains as strong as ever. “Helping people feel good—truly good—on the inside and out is what lights me up,” she says. “That’s what keeps me going.”
An open house is planned this summer to celebrate DentalSpa’s beautiful new home. Exact details will be announced on social media and the website, so be sure to follow along for updates, inspiration and a behind-the-scenes look at both businesses in action.

SAVOR The Summer
By SuSan Salaz | artwork By Eduardo PEña | PhotograPhy By JEs NiJJEr
This summer the flavors are bold, the patios are buzzing, and local dining has never looked better. Josephine brings Parisian-inspired elegance to downtown Carmel, while Juniper on Main serves up Southern coastal charm with every bite. At Lone Pine, thoughtful technique and modern steakhouse style take center stage, and Verde spices things up with vibrant dishes and a brandnew location in Greenwood. Grindstone on the Monon celebrates an expanded patio with seasonal flavors and a spirited Tito’s Bartender Battle. Whether you’re brunching, bar-hopping or dining under the stars, these local favorites make it easy to savor the season.

Josephine
Parisian Charm
Romantic yet approachable, Josephine blends the elegance of a Parisian bistro with the charm of a contemporary tavern. Tucked in the heart of the Carmel Arts & Design District, this inviting new concept from Ambrosia Hospitality Group is inspired by the art, culture and culinary traditions of France.
Owners Dan and Anna Cage spent the first three months of their marriage living in Paris, just minutes from the Arc de Triomphe. "We always appreciated how much food and wine was a part of French culture," Dan explains. With that inspiration, the ambitious team at Ambrosia Hospitality Group set to work bringing a Frenchinspired food and wine operation to Carmel.
Dan believes that details create unique and wonderful experiences for guests. From the candlelit patio to the curated wine list, every element has been thoughtfully considered. “We’ve tried to be intentional with the design choices, our steps of service, the wine list and, of course, our food,” he adds. Executive Chef Andrew Popp reimagines classic French dishes with contemporary flair for each season. The current menu features ricotta-stuffed pasta with truffle shavings and tomato confit, coq au vin with pan au jus and roasted potatoes, and a stunning bouillabaisse blanc with mussels, shrimp and crab in a white wine absinthe cream. Seasonal standouts like le beau citron salad and rich potato aligoté round out the meal.
Summer desserts are simple and elegant—while the cocktail program leans French and fun. Happy Hour runs daily from 5–6 p.m. and features a curated selection of escargot, mussels, martinis and champagne—ideal for enjoying the season on the patio.
Plan your summer rendezvous at Josephine, located at 110 W. Main Street, Suite 100, in the Carmel Arts & Design District. Visit josephinecarmel.com or follow @eatjosephine_ carmel for menus, reservations and updates.
Lone Pine
Modern American Steakhouse
Elevated yet approachable, Lone Pine is a modern American steakhouse that blends culinary precision with warm, down-to-earth hospitality. Located in Carmel City Center, this inspired concept from sommelier and restaurateur Josh Mazanowski brings together artfully crafted food, world-class wine and a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. "The food should lead, and it should be excellent," says Mazanowski, who also co-owns Beholder in downtown Indianapolis, a James Beard semifinalist for its outstanding wine program.
The restaurant takes its name from Lonepine, Montana, where Josh's in-laws raise Red Angus and Wagyu hybrids—a nod to the values of craftsmanship, quality and unpretentious beauty that shape the experience here. Local artist Casey Roberts’s natureinspired work throughout the dining room reinforces this connection to the land, creating a space that feels both refined and grounded.
"We want to surprise people with how good the food is—especially those who might not expect it," notes Josh. That commitment to excellence starts with ingredients. Steaks are sourced from boutique farms and aged to perfection, while seasonal produce arrives fresh from local Indiana growers. But the menu goes well beyond steak. Executive Chef Aaron Hansen brings thoughtful creativity to every dish. Highlights include Ōra King Salmon, Lamb Ragù, and Japanese-inspired Tuna Crudo—all crafted with French culinary techniques and plated with precision.
This summer marks the debut of weekend brunch and outdoor seating, with a shaded mezzanine patio perfect for warm-weather dining. The bar program elevates the experience with expertly crafted cocktails, while the wine list—meticulously curated by Mazanowski—features expressive, vintage-driven bottles that he says "punch above their pay grade."
Experience Carmel’s modern American steakhouse at Lone Pine, located at 710 S. Rangeline Road in Carmel City Center. For menus, hours and reservations, visit lonepinecarmel.com and follow @lonepinecarmel on Instagram.
Verde Flavors of Mexico
From signature cocktails to chef-crafted specials, Verde Flavors of Mexico delivers a vibrant culinary experience that captures the essence of modern Mexican cuisine, blurring the lines between dining and destination. This season, the familyowned restaurant group is celebrating big—with the debut of its fifth location in Greenwood. “We want our guests to step into a space crafted with flavor, soul and style,” says owner Paul Aréchiga. “From beautifully designed corners to the unforgettable essence of Mexico—this is more than a restaurant, it’s an experience.”
Each location offers a lush indoor-outdoor feel, but the Zionsville patio continues to be a summer favorite. With garage-style doors that open to let the sunshine in and stylish décor that feels more like a resort than a restaurant, it’s an ideal setting for everything from weeknight dinners to celebratory nights out.
The menu features elevated interpretations of regional dishes. “Our menu is fun and festive, with constant chef specials rotating all year long,” says Aréchiga. Highlights include the showstopping Molcajete, served bubbling hot in a lava rock vessel and loaded with grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, ranchera salsa, cactus, panela and more. Or try the Alambres, a guest favorite, featuring a flavorful mix of grilled shrimp, steak and chicken, layered with cheese and served hanging dramatically over arugula and rice. The bar program is equally noteworthy, with a dynamic lineup of craft margaritas and smoky, inventive mezcal cocktails designed to complement every dish. For those looking to bring the fiesta home,
Verde also offers full-service catering for private parties, weddings and summer gatherings. Verde Flavors of Mexico now serves five locations—Zionsville, Carmel, Fishers, Ironworks and the newest in Greenwood. Visit verdeflavorsofmexico.com for menus and updates, and follow @verde_flavorsofmexico on Instagram for the latest news and events.
Grindstone
On the Monon
Grindstone on the Monon is turning up the heat this summer with the debut of an expanded patio, securing its spot as one of the northside's top destinations for al fresco dining. Located just off the Monon Trail in Westfield, this locally loved hangout is known for its scratch-made comfort food and laid-back atmosphere. "Executive Chef Kene Young will have a new menu launching this July with seasonal items such as hummus, pork chops and ahi tuna lettuce wraps," shares Blake Fogelsong, owner and director of operations for Clancy's Hospitality, a third-generation family-owned restaurant business established in Noblesville by Indiana Restaurant Hall of Fame member and Blake's grandfather, Carl Fogelsong.
To celebrate the new patio in style, Clancy's Hospitality is hosting a Tito's Bartender Battle on June 26, where talented mixologists from across their restaurant portfolio will compete in a spirited showdown of creativity and skill. Guests can enjoy appetizer favorites while sampling specialty cocktails and casting their votes for the winning creation. Proceeds benefit Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, and the champion cocktail will earn a permanent spot on all restaurant menus later this year.
Meanwhile, Grindstone keeps the good times flowing all summer long with their current refreshing drink lineup. Signature cocktails like the Georgia Peach and Pink Paloma pair perfectly with happy hour specials, while spirit-free options including the Phony Negroni and Dry Mai Tai ensure everyone can join the fun. Whether you're biking in for happy hour, gathering with friends for cocktails under the stars or planning a private celebration, Grindstone's expanded patio offers the perfect mix of space, comfort and summer energy.
Visit Grindstone on the Monon at 17470 Wheeler Road in Westfield. Find more information, the menu, and a link to purchase tickets for the Tito’s Bartender Battle on June 26 at grindstoneonthemonon.com. Follow @ grindstoneonthemonon on Instagram.
Juniper
On Main
Charming, coastal and full of flavor, Juniper on Main brings the warmth of the southern shore to the heart of Carmel. Set in a historic white cottage along Main Street, this local favorite transports diners to the beaches of Georgia and the Carolinas with every bite. Step inside and be immediately swept away to the Lowcountry—from the weathered wood accents to the coastal-inspired décor that whispers of salt air and sandy shores. The patio, with its lush greenery, pergola and glowing string lights, offers a breezy summer escape that feels miles away from the Midwest. "The new menu just arrived with some incredible offerings," says co-owner Diane Cannon.
Juniper has cultivated a devoted following of repeat diners who return again and again, all agreeing that the food is consistently delicious and authentically Southern. Here, the summer lineup features soulful classics with a touch of island flair. One standout is the new Jekyll Island Shrimp & Scallops—pan-seared jumbo shrimp and scallops served over crispy heirloom grit cakes with kiwi coconut crème and pineapple salsa. Another newcomer, the Southern Short Rib Manhattan, combines stoutbraised short rib, grilled buttermilk cornbread, heirloom cheese grits and pimento cheese gravy in a bold, satisfying Southern mash-up.
Fan favorites like Magnolia Mac, Shrimp & Grits and the ever-popular Crab Rangoon Tacos remain menu staples, joined this season by new taco options like Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Folly Beach Fried Fish. While indoor seating is now available by reservation through OpenTable, patio tables remain first come, first serve—perfect for spontaneous date nights or leisurely weekend dinners under the stars.
Juniper on Main is located at 110 E. Main Street in Carmel. To view the full menu or make a reservation, visit juniperonmain.com and follow @juniper_on_main on Instagram.

TECHNOLOGY MEETS LUXURY
The Premier GrouP's ovaTion exPerience cenTer Provides desiGn insPiraTion and luxury TechnoloGy inTeGraTion
The Premier Group's Ovation Experience Center in Carmel brings high-end audio, lighting and smart home technology together in a stunning 7,000-square-foot showroom that makes cutting-edge technology accessible and appealing to luxury homeowners.
In 1995, Jason Barth found himself at Ovation in Castleton, purchasing his first laser disc player—a moment that would foreshadow a future connection between two Indiana technology institutions. Fast forward to today, and Barth, now founder and CEO of The Premier Group, has transformed that nostalgic relationship with the Ovation brand into something extraordinary in the heart of Carmel.
Ovation has been a familiar name across the state for 46 years, known for high-quality audio and video equipment. When Bob Poynter acquired the brand some time after original founder Gary McCormick passed away, he reached out to The Premier Group about joining forces, recognizing the complementary expertise in automation and lighting that would enhance what Ovation offered clients.
The partnership evolved naturally, with The Premier Group eventually taking over the management of the Ovation brand. Last January, they began an ambitious project to completely reinvent the Ovation space. "We tore their showroom apart—we gutted it and rebuilt 7,000 square feet as more of

an experience center," says Barth. The result is what they now call the Ovation Experience Center, which retains the trusted Ovation name while showcasing the full spectrum of Premier's technological capabilities.
The Premier Group, now celebrating 26 years in business, has established itself as a leader in integrated home and commercial technology. With 53 fulltime staff members, they stand out in an industry where over 90% of companies have fewer than seven employees. For 22 consecutive years, they've been ranked among the top 100 integration companies in the United States— the only company in North America to maintain that distinction without interruption. "Our veteran team has been consistently doing great work for a long time," reflects Barth on this achievement. "We've consistently continued year over year to grow our business and to serve more and more clients—and are proud to do it really well."
The company's expertise spans four major divisions: networks and Wi-Fi ("the foundation of the house"), security systems, lighting and shades, and audio/ video entertainment for both residential and commercial applications. In each area, they focus on creating turnkey solutions that enhance how people experience their spaces. At the Ovation Experience Center, this philosophy comes to life. Visitors can explore during regular retail hours or schedule personalized consultations.
The design-forward approach is evident throughout the space. "Design matters," emphasizes Barth. "We're going to implement technology that looks amazing." This attention to aesthetics alongside functionality reflects their understanding of what luxury clients seek. Perhaps the most telling testament
to Premier's approach comes from client feedback. Barth notes that their biggest compliment is when clients tell him they're the first people who made technology less complicated—taking something clients didn't understand and explaining it clearly so they can get excited about it.
The Premier Group works collaboratively with homeowners, interior designers, architects and builders to create customized technology solutions. This agnostic approach allows them to integrate seamlessly with any design team while staying in their lane as technology experts. Their extensive client base throughout Indianapolis and the Midwest includes both residential homeowners and commercial clients, ranging from restaurants and sports venues to corporate centers and conference rooms.
What truly sets The Premier Group apart is their commitment to service after installation. They provide comprehensive support including 24/7/365 remote system monitoring, regular software updates and ongoing maintenance. "The service after the sale in our industry is as important, or more important," Barth explains. Their support ensures systems continue to perform optimally for years—sometimes decades—after installation, with high-quality components often lasting for many years with proper maintenance.
Visit The Ovation Experience Center at 12345 Old Meridian Street in Carmel, or schedule a personalized consultation to learn more about how The Premier Group can enhance your home or business.
