GEDEBE RETURNS TO SURPRISE WITH AN EXQUISITE COLLECTION THAT INTERPRETS THE THOUSAND FACADES OF MIAMI White beaches and the turquoise ocean, delicate colours and wonderful excesses: Miami, the city of contrasts, is the muse inspiring the Gedebe collection for summer 2020. Giuseppe Dalla Badia uses it as a starting point in creating footwear and accessories that range from streamlined shapes to the sinuous opulence of appliqués, from delicate tones to the flashes of neon touches.

The result is a surprising collection, which dazzles through jewelled sandals on vertiginous stiletto heels, elegant mules in satin with jewel buckles, pumps in strass mesh, sandals that play around with transparencies and precious boule… proposals that accompany clutches with prints inspired by the tropical jungle or by psychedelic fantasies in neon tones, with extremely rich clips, in a triumph of stones and crystals.

Bags and clutches are also proposed in satin or rush, always renewing that play of contrasts serving as a backdrop to the collection.

Dalla Badia continues with his search for equilibrium between modernity and richness, working on the geometry of lines and on a lightweight and contemporary look.

GEDEBE TORNA A SORPRENDERE CON UNA COLLEZIONE PREZIOSA, CHE SI FA INTERPRETE DEI MILLE VOLTI DI MIAMI Le spiagge bianche e l’oceano turchese, le palette tenui e gli stupendi eccessi: Miami, la città dei contrasti, è la musa ispiratrice della collezione Gedebe per la prossima estate 2020. Giuseppe Dalla Badia ne fa il punto di partenza per creare calzature e accessori dalle forme lineari alla sinuosa opulenza delle applicazioni, dai colori tenui ai bagliori dei tocchi fluo.

Il risultato è una collezione sorprendente, che abbaglia tra sandali gioiello svettanti su tacchi a spillo, eleganti mules in raso con fibbia gioiello, decolleté in rete di strass, sandali che giocano tra trasparenze e boule preziose… proposte che si accompagnano a clutch con print ispirate alla giungla tropicale o a fantasie psichedeliche nelle tonalità fluo, con fermagli ricchissimi, in un tripudio di pietre e cristalli.

Borse e clutch sono anche in raso o in midollino, sempre rinnovando quel gioco di contrasti di sottofondo alla collezione.

“55” for the birthday of Fabi

SAME DNA, BUT WITH A BOLDER SILHOUETTE: WITH “55”, THE FABI MAN CELEBRATES THE BRAND’S 55 YEARS OF LIFE BY ENTERING THE WORLD OF VOLUME SNEAKERS The stage chosen for launching the new “55” sneaker is Pitti Uomo 97: this is how Fabi celebrates the anniversary of the brand, while introducing it for the first time into the world of volume sneakers. With a bold outline, “55” has an upper in exquisite calfskin with neoprene inserts that take their inspiration from the brand’s sophisticated DNA, while the XL Extralight sole introduces volume and dynamic lines that strongly characterise the sneaker’s silhouette. The result is a perfect combination between origins and new formal, a concept that brand manager Emanuele Fabi has been exploring for some time now.

Same philosophy, but with more moderate tones for the “Emil” running shoe: characterised by a tapered shape and bold tread, it is proposed in hand dabbed calfskin and features a maxi logo lasered onto the upper and a robust lugged outsole. This mix of style and elegance finds a contemporary outlet in the silhouette characterised by a large outsole.

Dalla linea audace, la “55” ha tomaia in vitello pregiato con inserti di neoprene che si rifà al dna sofisticato del marchio, mentre il fondo XL Extralight introduce un elemento di spessore e dalle linee dinamiche che caratterizza in modo importante la silhouette della sneaker. Il risultato è un perfetto connubio tra origini e nuovo formale, concetto che il brand manager Emanuele Fabi sta esplorando da tempo.

Stessa filosofia, ma con toni più misurati, per la running “Emil”: caratterizzata da una linea affusolata e dal battistrada grintoso, è declinata in vitello tamponato a mano e presenta il maxilogo laserato sulla tomaia che poggia sul robusto fondo dentellato. Un concentrato di stile ed eleganza che trova una declinazione contemporanea nella silhouette caratterizzata dal fondo importante.

A global footwear product safety guide

To celebrate the opening of its boutique at the Palais Royale in Paris, legendary shoe designer Manolo Blahnik held a gala dinner at Lapérouse, a 1766 cultural institution located on the Rive Gauche, frequented by illustrious figures like Emile Zola, Victor Hugo, Ernest Hemingway, Kate Moss and many other VIPs. On the occasion, the chairs of the restaurant were covered in pillows featuring Parisian brocades that inspired the SS20 collection of the Spanish designer. A range of styles that span from slippers, to sandals with bejeweled bands, from mules with frills to pumps… all expressed with floral brocades in a palette that recalls the pastel tones of the extremely popular macaroons. A heartfelt tribute of Maestro Blahnik to the ville lumière.

On Instagram, her shoes have become viral: made from badminton shuttlecocks, Nikon camera straps, soccer balls, Levi’s jeans labels, and Haribo gummy wrappers… they have an unconventional style midway between pop and Dadaism. Nicole McLaughlin, graphic designer for the Reebok team and creative talent in her free time who, starting from this shoe project, then went on to extend the range of her creations to also include apparel and designer objects, has always adhered to the same philosophy of reuse and recognizing the merit of discarded materials. A personal and independent project that interprets the culture of DIY Do-it-Yourself and speaks the language of sustainability. The striking and bizarre result of the creativity of Nicole McLaughlin shows an affinity for streetwear culture, which can also be seen in the work she does for Reebok and Vetements.

In the attempt to shine a light on the increasingly complex labyrinth of requirements governing footwear product safety and sustainability, along with the relative safety standards, FDRA Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America and Tüv Süd, one of the most famous certification bodies in the world, have updated the global footwear product safety guide, which covers both physical and chemical testing requirements, as well as the proposed protocols for footwear.

“This tool offers companies of all sizes the ability to bring clarity to their safety strategies – declares Josue Solano, President and COO of BBC International and President of the Product Safety Committee for FDRA - It provides clear direction on how to manage testing standards that comply with global legislation all the way down to the state level”.

• Per festeggiare l’apertura della sua boutique a Palais Royale a Parigi, il leggendario designer di scarpe Manolo Blahnik ha tenuto un gala dinner presso il ristorante Lapérouse, una istituzione culturale della Rive Gauche che data 1766 e annovera tra i suoi frequentatori Emile Zola, Victor Hugo, Ernest Hemingway, Kate Moss e tante altre celebrità. Per l’occasione le sedute del ristorante sono state rivestite con cuscini che riproducevano i broccati parigini che hanno ispirato al designer spagnolo la collezione SS20. Una gamma di stili che vanno dalle pantofoline, ai sandali con fascette gioiello, dalle mules con ruches, alle decolleté… tutte declinate con broccati floreali in una palette che richiama le tinte pastello dei celebri macarones. Un sentito omaggio del maestro Blahnik alla ville lumière.

Un progetto personale e indipendente che traduce la cultura del DIY Do-it-Yourself e parla il linguaggio della sostenibilità. L’affascinante e bizzarro risultato della creatività di Nicole McLaughlin mostra la propensione alla cultura streetwear, anche per riflesso al suo lavoro con Reebok e Vetements.

Since 2004, the year it debuted with its first shoe in Dacron (the material used for sails), the philosophy of the brand has always been that of giving the most demanding consumers an original and unconventional shoe, which however is characterised by quality workmanship and materials. Remaining loyal to this mission, Voile Blanche presents itself at Pitti Uomo with a Winter 2020/21 collection that matches a meticulous design with the very best quality. One example is the boat shoe for Him in waxed calfskin with a chunky sole, where craft workmanship and the tailoring typical of English footwear come together with the volumes typical of contemporary sneakers.

The concept store in Milan created by Carla Sozzani and the brand of Adidas join together for a revamping of the Aztrek Double sneaker.

The result is an elegant version of the sneaker in chalk white leather, with light grey mudguard and pony hair inserts. The midsole has a chunky texture and is fitted with a Reebok DMX cushioning system for guaranteeing maximum comfort.

Thus, 10 Corso Como X Reebok Aztrek Double takes on a contemporary silhouette that remains faithful however to the original.

The sneaker is available from select retailers like Sneakersnstuff.

For the first time in Florence, the protagonists will be models that revamp the cult styles of the women’s lines, re-proposing them in a men’s version, like the SR1 moccasin-slipper.

Sergio Rossi ended 2018 with a revenue of 58 million, a number that should increase to 70 million this year, with 50% generated in Asia. It is precisely Asia, after the opening of the first store dedicated to the men’s line in Tokyo at the Hankyu Men’s department store, where the brand will reinforce its presence with other openings in Singapore and Macao.

Ne è un esempio il modello da barca per Lui in vitello ingrassato con suola chunchy, dove l’artigianalità e la tailorship tipici delle calzature inglesi si fondono ai volumi caratteristici delle sneaker contemporanee.

Il risultato è una elegante versione della sneaker in pelle bianco gesso, con parafango in grigio chiaro e inserti in cavallino. L’intersuola ha una texture chunky ed è dotata del caratteristico sistema di ammortizzazione Reebok DMX che garantisce il massimo confort.

E così 10 Corso Como X Reebok Aztrek Double assume una silhouette contemporanea che però non tradisce l’originale.

About two years after the introduction on the market of the new technology ‘PLUS2’ (a Stemma patent), a double-ring moulding system for soles with three densities/materials injected directly onto the upper, there are already 12 production plants that use or will soon be in production with this technology .

For Stemma, a result far beyond expectations, due in particular to the possibilities that PLUS2 offers to expand the product range that can be produced by direct injection on the upper, in particular in the sport and leisure shoe sector.

LA MACCHINA DI STEMMA PERMETTE PRODUZIONI SEMPRE PIÙ AUTOMATIZZATE E DALLA QUALITÀ CONTROLLATA, SENZA LIMITARE LA FLESSIBILITÀ PRODUTTIVA E IL RANGE DI PRODOTTI

The PLUS2 system - available on the new rotary machine FORMULA - allows producing footwear with rubber or TPU soles and midsoles with two different densities of polyurethane, without loss of productivity compared to a normal injection cycle on the upper.

The advantages of such a system are: • possibility of creating areas of graduated density to improve the comfort and performance of the product; • possibility of overmould the upper with polyurethane, thus reducing the risk of imperfections; • possibility of expanding the range and design of the products injected onto the upper.

In short, PLUS2 allows the implementation of increasingly automated productions with controlled quality, without placing limits on production flexibility and the ranged offered.

A circa due anni dal lancio sul mercato della nuova tecnologia ‘PLUS2’ (brevetto Stemma) di stampaggio diretto su tomaia in doppio anello di suole a tre densità/materiali, sono già 12 gli impianti produttivi che utilizzano o saranno presto in produzione con questa tecnologia.

Per Stemma un risultato ben oltre le aspettative, dovuto in particolare alle possibilità che PLUS2 offre per ampliare la gamma di prodotti realizzabili mediante iniezione diretta su tomaia, in particolare per i settori delle calzature sportive e tempo libero.

Il sistema PLUS2 - disponibile sulla nuova macchina rotativa FORMULA - consente, senza perdita di produttività rispetto a un normale ciclo di iniezione su tomaia, la produzione di calzature con suole in gomma o TPU e un’intersuola a due diverse densità di Poliuretano.

The leather sustainability campaign kicked off UNIC ILLUSTRATES THE CONCEPT OF THE MESSAGE THAT WILL SOON BE DISCLOSED THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AND NOT ONLY. IN THE MEANTIME, THE SECTOR ENDS 2019 WITH A DECREASE IN PRODUCTION OF 7.8% Two out of three consumers are still convinced that animals must be killed to use their skin. By the discouriging results of a survey involving 1,200 people in four countries (Italy, Germany, France and the United States), at the beginning of the year a great communication campaign focused on the sustainability of the skin will start at the initiative of UNIC – Italian Tanneries. The presentation took place during the assembly of Italian tanners on December 3 in Milan where a video lasting 45 seconds (and one reduced lasting 7.5’’) and some sample photos were anticipated.

The concept of the campaign - entitled “Don’t say Greenwashing” and developed by the international agency Spring Studios - focuses on considering leather as a sustainable material, combining all the adjectives of virtuous products: green, organic, bio, recyclable, plastic free. To counter the fake news on the skin even more effectively, some slogans have also been coined to accompany the images, for example “the truth is that if it is made of leather it is plastic free” and also “the truth is that your jacket/belt/bag did not kill anyone”. «We wanted this campaign as there is too much ignorance about our product, which instead is natural, circular and 100% sustainable», said Gianni Russo, president of Unic. The campaign will be carried out through the distribution of photos and videos mainly by means of social networks, but it will also include adevertising posters and billboards in the big fashion cities during important events, primarily Fashion Weeks. “We will be very active in cities like London, Copenhagen and Helsinki, when organisations hostile to leather usually launch their strongest attacks”, explained Fulvia Bacchi, general manager of Unic

and CEO of Lineapelle. The UNIC assembly - held in Europe’s highest meeting room, on the 47th floor of the Allianz tower in the futuristic CityLife district - was an opportunity to provide some data on the health of the Italian tanning sector that ends a rather difficult 2019 with a decrease in production value of 7.8% and of 12.5% in volume. Exports were also negative: -8.8%. “But the last quarter of the year gave better results that we hope will lead to a recovery in 2020”, commented president Russo, who also noted the UNIC’S good state of health, which saw an increase in members from 148 in 2016 to 172 in 2019 thanks to the entry of new and important tanning groups.

For that reason also the association of tanners renewed and expanded the board which is increased from 18 to 27 members, while it had to postpone to the next year the nomination of the new president due to waiver (for personal reasons) of the candidate that had previously been identified (Piero Rosati).

On the occasion of the assembly, UNIC also presented the 2019 Sustainability Report which tells the 12 objectives of the Italian leather that follows now the ambitious guidelines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN to promote human well-being and protect the environment.

Finally, always in Milan, UNIC rewarded the 23 Italian tanneries that obtained the Certification of Sustainability which requires a 360° commitment not only in reducing the environmental impact but also in economic, social and ethical terms.

attacchi più forti” ha spiegato Fulvia Bacchi, direttore generale di Unic e AD di Lineapelle. Sustainable soles The buzzword of the last edition of Lineapelle was sustainability: it extended to include many of the sole manufacturers present at the fair who interpreted projects that are fruit of intense research onto natural materials, blends with vegetable fibers and rubber, and recycled and biodegradable materials. A trend that replies to the growing demand in a market that is increasingly aware of environmental issues, with an offering characterised by a ‘green’ orientation that does not sacrifice the technical performance or look.

The other leading theme is the sports shoe in its many different versions: from dad shoes with chunky soles that for a number of seasons have embraced the leading trends, to the sporty athleisure shoe, which has become the accessory of choice for daily wear. Here, leading the way are important constructions, often two-tone/dual materials, with dynamic trim, colour blocks, and designer grips. Even court sneakers with their city orientation are reconfirmed as protagonists with new tones, transparencies, and natural and sustainable materials.

The must of the season is the boot, in a combat version with characteristic full-grain grip or in other versions with a focus on an anti-freeze and anti-slip tread, along with solutions that conform to even the strictest directives in the world of safety.

Traditional, but not overly so, the classic world for her and him is alternated with laminated flashes, vintage highlights, and a designer grip on lightweight Thunit or leather soles.

THE NATURAL RUBBER OF GEA GOMMA INSPIRES THE CREATIVITY OF STUDENTS FROM THE ARSUTORIA SCHOOL

Natural rubber produced by Gea Gomma – an absolutely sustainable and versatile material with excellent qualities – has once again stimulated the creativity of designers who this year were faced with a particular theme: the Chelsea boot with no crimping.

The results achieved by the students in the ARS SHOE LAB – the laboratory inside the Arsutoria School where finished footwear prototypes can be created – turned out to be small works of art, capable of making the most of the soles with coloured islands proposed

by Gea Gomma.

Stefano Grivel, co-owner of the Pavia-based company, awarded the young participants after showing them the many characteristics and advantages of natural rubber.

“Para rubber,” stressed Grivel, “has zero environmental impact. The natural element of vegetable origin is not transformed by a chemical process, but by a mechanical process that in addition to being environmentally friendly, also preserves the natural characteristics of the raw material. Moreover, the same processing residues are reused in the next production cycle.” The quality of the material offered

by Gea Gomma is also guaranteed by the long tradition that has seen Europe’s No. 1 producer of calendered natural rubber as a protagonist since 1952.

The most interesting proposals selected by the editorial staff of the Edizioni AF magazines included those of the winner, Sean Stockton (USA), and the 2nd runner up Kyoko Irokawa (Japan), as well as those submitted by Farida Eid (Egypt), Giulia Iannaccone (Italy) and Nawinee Suwansawang (Thailand).

Stefano Grivel, co-titolare dell’azienda pavese, ha premiato i giovani partecipanti dopo aver illustrato loro le molteplici caratteristiche e i vantaggi della gomma naturale.

“La para – ha sottolineato Grivel – ha, di fatto, un impatto ambientale ad effetto zero. L’elemento naturale, di origine vegetale, non è trasformato da un processo chimico, ma solo da un processo meccanico che oltre ad essere perfettamente eco-compatibile preserva le caratteristiche naturali della materia prima. Inoltre, gli stessi residui della lavorazione vengono riutilizzati nel ciclo di produzione successivo”. La qualità del materiale proposto da Gea Gomma è garantita anche dalla lunga tradizione che vede protagonista il principale produttore in Europa di gomma naturale calandrata, fin dal 1952.

Tra le proposte più interessanti, selezionate dalla redazione delle riviste di Edizioni AF, si segnalano, oltre al vincitore, quelle del secondo classificato Kyoko Irokawa (Giappone), di Farida Eid (Egitto) che si è aggiudicata il terzo gradino podio, e di Giulia Iannaccone (Italia) e Nawinee Suwansawang (Tailandia).

Figures from European Outdoor Group The latest research released by the European Outdoor Group (EOG) indicates that the climbing category grew in 2018, while the overall outdoor market flattened out. The EOG has unveiled top line results from its comprehensive State of Trade project, using data from 115 brands in Europe to analyze sell-in information for seven main categories and 48 separate sub-categories. In line with expectations, sell-in during the year was generally flat compared to the previous year, returning to a picture of the market that is similar to what was experienced in 2015 and 2016. The wholesale market in 2018 was worth € 5.81bn*, 1% down in value and 0.5% down in volume on the previous year. However, the outdoor market continues to be resilient, in the context of challenging market conditions, increasing competition from non-core outdoor entrants, and turbulent social and political times.

Countries and regions Countries and regions generally performed in line with the overall figures, recording growth or decline ranging from +1% to -1%. The year was slightly more difficult in Austria and Switzerland, a view supported by feedback from EOG members. Once again, the largest three individual country markets were Germany, France and the UK, which together represent 50% of the sector, and therefore heavily influence the development figures.

Category development The data for 2018 reveals that climbing grew strongly, by 5.7% in value and 6.1% in volume. Elsewhere, figures again reflected the overall picture, though there was more of a decline in sleeping bags (-4.7% in value and -4.9% in volume).

L'EOG ha svelato i risultati del suo ampio progetto statistico, utilizzando i dati di 115 marchi in Europa per analizzare le informazioni sul sell-in per sette categorie principali e 48 sottocategorie più dettagliate. In linea con le aspettative, il sell-in durante l'anno è stato generalmente piatto rispetto all'anno precedente, tornando a un quadro di mercato simile a quello del 2015 e 2016.

Lights and shadows on the first half of 2019 According to data released by Confindustria Moda’s Research Centre, Italian textiles (which includes wool, cotton, linen, silk and knitted fabrics) recorded a decrease in both domestic manufacturing and foreign trade, even if with some exceptions in line with the trend of the last quarter of 2018.

2018 closed with overall sales of 7.95 billion euros (+0.8 over the previous year), outperforming the expectations of the beginning of the year (-0.3%). The most important segment, both in terms of overall sales and exports, has always been wool, which accounts for 42.7% of total sales for the sector. This is followed by cotton at 18.5%, knits at 17.5%, silk at 17.3%, and then linen which accounts for 3.9%. According to ISTAT manufacturing data for the first quarter of 2019 (January to March), Italian textiles fell by -3.5%. A similar negative performance was also recorded in exports (-2.3%) and imports (-2.4%).

However, the trend was not homogeneous in terms of both outlet markets and product segments. In comparison, for instance, exports to the US grew considerably by 15.5%, thanks to most of the fabrics included in the analysis, but China also performed well (+3.2%) especially with regard to wool products. Despite the fact that Germany experienced a marked reduction of -18.0%, it still remains Italy’s most important export market, together with China and Hong Kong. The same contradictory trends were recorded in the rest of Europe, with France limiting the fall to -0.5%, while Romania fell by -7.9%.

Conversely, direct sales to Spain increased (+11.1%), along with Portugal (+18.5%) and the United Kingdom (+13.7%). With regard to non-EU areas, Japan recorded an increase of +5.6%, Vietnam (albeit for more limited quantities) of +28.5%, while Hong Kong decreased by -9.2% and Tunisia and Turkey both recorded decreases of around -15.0%. As for imports, China and Turkey, the first and second largest suppliers, recorded +2.8% and -12.2% respectively. Chinese textile exports to Italy accounted for 27.2%, and Turkey 18.8%. In third place, even if far behind, was Pakistan (+12.6%). There are also divergent trends in the various product categories. Exports of wool fabrics bucked the trend, falling by -2.4%, in line with the average for the sector. More specifically, however, carded wools increased by +4.1%, while worsted wool fabrics decreased by -4.7%. Cotton fabrics fell by -4.2% and knits by -2.6%. On the other hand, exports of pure silk fabrics grew slightly by +0.8%, while exports of linen increased by +9.5% outside of Italy.

Luci e ombre della prima metà del 2019 Secondo i dati elaborati dal Centro Studi di Confindustria Moda, la tessitura made in Italy (che comprende i comparti: laniero, cotoniero, liniero, serico e a maglia) ha fatto registrare una flessione sia dell’attività produttiva interna sia del commercio con l’estero, pur con qualche eccezione, in linea con l’andamento dell’ultimo trimestre del 2018. È ormai archiviato il 2018 con un fatturato complessivo di 7,95 miliardi di euro (+0,8 sull’anno precedente), migliorando le stime di inizio anno (-0,3%): comparto preponderante, sia dal punto di vista del fatturato complessivo che delle esportazioni è sempre costituito dalla produzione laniera, che concorre per il 42,7% del fatturato settoriale.

Seguono la tessitura cotoniera a quota 18,5%, quindi quella a maglia a quota 17,5%, poi la serica, che incide per il 17,3%, e infine la tessitura liniera con una quota pari al 3,9%. Secondo quanto diffuso da ISTAT relativamente alla produzione industriale nel trimestre gennaio-marzo 2019, la tessitura italiana ha fatto segnare un calo del -3,5%. Un trend negativo simile a quello delle esportazioni (-2,3%) e delle importazioni (-2,4%). Un andamento, tuttavia, non omogeneo sia per quanto riguarda i mercati di sbocco, che i comparti merceologici. A fronte, ad esempio, di una crescita sostenuta dell’export verso gli USA (+15,5%), grazie alla maggior parte dei tessuti presi in considerazione dalla rilevazione, e di un buon risultato delle vendite in Cina (+3,2%) soprattutto di prodotti lanieri, la Germania accusa un calo particolarmente accentuato, nella misura del -18,0%. Ciò nonostante la Germania si conferma, assieme a Cina e Hong Kong, il nostro più importante mercato di sbocco. Andamenti altrettanto contraddittori si registrano nel resto dell’Europa, con la Francia che contiene la flessione al -0,5%, mentre la Romania cede il -7,9%, di contro aumentano le vendite dirette in Spagna (+11,1%), Portogallo (+18,5%) e Regno Unito (+13,7%). Relativamente alle aree extra-UE, il Giappone registra un aumento del +5,6%, il Vietnam (pur su quantità contenute) del +28,5%. Mentre Hong Kong perde il -9,2% e Tunisia e Turchia presentano entrambi riduzioni del -15,0% circa. Passando all’analisi dell’import, Cina e Turchia, primo e secondo fornitore, fanno segnare rispettivamente un +2,8% e un -12,2%. In calo risultano i tessuti di cotone (-4,2%) e in maglia (-2,6%). Timida crescita interessa, invece, le vendite estere dei tessuti in pura seta (+0,8%), mentre i tessuti in lino si incrementano del +9,5% oltreconfine.

Pitti Filati increasingly focuses on research M HALL OF THE FAIR, THE SPAZIO RICERCA (RESEARCH SPACE) IS THE HUB OF CREATIVITY AND THE EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATORY WHERE FUTURE TRENDS ARE BORN Autumn/Winter 2020-21 talks about HERITAGE and how the tradition of knowledge, experience and know-how evolves towards new interpretations that can intercept the tastes of designers, who transform lifestyle trends into real products.

A new trend in the supply chain is emerging, coming from the need for clarity and linearity in shapes and surfaces capable of transmitting concepts of identity combined with the requirements of genuine wearability. Everything is finer and more classic, even sportswear, while comfort is a certainty in combination with a certain elegance. A more defined and sculpted image of men and women but also a new luxury, inspired by the fashion system between the 1950s and 1980s. An exhibition and experimental project that never ceases to surprise, with the artistic direction of fashion designer Angelo Figus and knitwear expert Nicola Miller, and layout by Alessandro Moradei.

The research is based on six guiding principles, ingredients for creating an entire collection or simply a well-made clothing item. Material is the starting point, it will be sublimated by clothes that highlight the quality of the yarn and of the knit, enhancing the textile concepts offered by the materials. The structures are rich, but visibly tone-on-tone, making even the most ordinary clothes precious and extremely special. The patterns evoke knitwear in a traditional sense, reinterpreting in a minimal and very sophisticated way the traditional patterns and motifs associated with the history and places of the most recognisable knitwear, from diamond patterns to houndstooth, which also in this case are tone-on-tone or glossy-matte.

The volumes alternate, defining the knits through layering, transparencies and opaque effects. The shades are nuanced, degradè and correspond to the need to soften the tones and soothe the soul. Colour becomes a true stylistic feature,

Illuminated by the sun and blown by the wind, they will transform primary colours into new solar tones that are less sharp, but in constant interaction with each other. The concept of shading and scaling will be confirmed as the most suitable chromatic approach for the coming season, which will not only soften the colours but also include them without fractures. Six themes will playfully and elegantly develop the most interesting visual aspects of the flags raised against the backdrop of a summer sky: ORIENT, WAVE, TWINNING, ARALDICA, THE MOON AND THE STARS, ONG.

IT HAS ALSO MADE A COMMITMENT TO REDUCE ITS CARBON EMISSIONS BY 30% BY THE YEAR 2030 Salomon Sports, a world leader in running shoes and equipment for winter sports, announces details of its new Play Minded Program, which addresses the company’s immediate and long-term commitment to operate its business in a more sustainable way. As part of this program, the brand unveils the concept for a new running show that can be fully recycled into a ski boot shell. The result of more than 18 months of research and development, this new shoe was presented during the grand opening of Salomon’s newest and largest Experience Store in Munich, Germany (200 square metres, a meeting place for the outdoor community hosting numerous seminars and courses).

By 2025, 70% of the waste created by Salomon’s production cycles will be recycled or reused and the environmental performance of every Salomon product will be visible to the consumer.

THE RECYCLABLE SHOE The concept for a fully recyclable running shoe is the first step in Salomon’s commitment to have 100% of its new products designed according to the principles of the company’s circular economy, all by 2025. The new recyclable concept shoe is made entirely of TPU, which can be ground down at the end of its life, then combined with original material and used to construct the shell of a new alpine ski boot.

Bioveg, is instead a line of articles characterized by its supports realized with recycled and vegetable origin raw materials. Furthermore, the energy employed during the coating process comes from renewable sources.

In this project, the back gets a hand-painted leather belt, a symbol widely used by À La Garçonne.

The characteristic surface implies the design’s secret. What we perceive as an imprint is the functional core of the concept. Le funzionalità avanzate sono discretamente nascoste al centro delle fibre o all’interno dei prodotti per dare spazio creativo alla fantasia o all’eleganza. Un incrocio di generi e stili - tra uomo e donna, tra la città e l’abbigliamento outdoor – dona risalto ai tessuti che uniscono autenticità e tecnologia, fascino e funzionalità, facendo eco a prodotti naturali realizzati dall’uomo. Mentre i prodotti eco-responsabili diventano sempre più il nuovo standard, questo nuovo settore d’avanguardia sta esplorando nuove strade. Le fibre riciclate aumentano la loro invasione sul mercato nelle categorie dei prodotti sportivi e tecnologici. L’offerta del riciclato riguarda tutte le poliammidi, è ben consolidata nel poliestere, sta progredendo nell’elastan e procedendo bene nelle membrane. I biopolimeri sono ora proposti per la maglieria e i tessuti e hanno proprietà e qualità identiche ai sintetici a base petrolio. Il fine vita dei prodotti ora comporta grandi miglioramenti nella biodegradabilità che il riciclaggio di elementi e fibre. La tracciabilità dei prodotti si sta semplificando grazie all’incremento di fibre certificate e alla nuova tecnologia nonché alla maggiore trasparenza della catena di approvvigionamento.

Vibram launches the latest addition to its compounds for climbing: Vibram XS Flash 2.

The Vibram R&D team has worked hard to design and develop a new solution capable of optimally balancing grip performance and durability, both indoors and outdoors. A versatile compound that maintains a stable behaviour on climbing surfaces, even in winter and at very low temperatures.

The real innovation is represented by the use of a polymer that has allowed to add colour to the compound, while maintaining grip performance in various conditions and good durability of the rubber, even after significant use.

Il team di R&D Vibram ha lavorato per progettare e sviluppare una nuova soluzione in grado di bilanciare in modo ottimale le prestazioni di grip e di durata, sia in ambiente indoor che outdoor. Una mescola versatile che mantiene un comportamento stabile sulle superfici di arrampicata, anche in inverno e a bassissime temperature.

La vera innovazione è rappresentata dall’utilizzo di un polimero che ha permesso di aggiungere alla mescola il colore, conservando le performance di grip in varie condizioni e una buona durata della gomma, anche dopo un utilizzo significativo.

Naglev launches Unico Women Built following the same principles of UNICO, it combines the strength of a hiking boot with the agility of a trail running shoe. UNICO WOMEN is hand-lasted and it is produced in limited volumes to guarantee high quality standards. The main idea was to build a shoe with a Kevlar outer shell and a wool inner sock, with a single piece of material, no seams and the foot exclusively in contact with natural materials.

UNICO WOMEN’s aesthetics is at the service of function: every single detail has been designed for a specific aim. The one-piece upper and the TPU rand enhance the shoe’s strength, while the seamless construction avoids weak spots. Not-to-be missed appointment for leading fashion brands and knitwear producers in the world An edition beyond expectations is being prepared for January 22nd to 24th 2020, with a very high level of research in the collections of the best yarns in the world. Flags will be the theme of the next edition of Pitti Filati. Rectangles of fabrics, lines intarsia, colours, drawings and geometric patterns will choregraph the Florence-based fair, a theme inspired by fabrics in motion, like the clothes we wear. Both a research laboratory and an observatory for new global lifestyle trends, Pitti Filati will present the excellence in yarns on an international scale to its audience of buyers from all over the world and designers from the most important fashion brands, who come to Florence looking for new creative ideas.

A project by Angelo Figus that has reached its third edition and has now become an established appointment linked with the Spazio Ricerca is “CustomEasy”, the customisation concept applied to the luxury world in which the different players of Pitti Filati, in synergy with each other, give life to a unique knitwear collection resulting from a genuine integration of the knitted yarn production chain. Premium yarns are transformed into knitted garments by knitwear manufacturers in the KnitClub and are curated by sector specialist Maurizio Brocchetto of Intex.

More than 3,000 exhibitors from 65 countries offer the opportunity to appreciate the best innovations. Heimtextil’s renewal process never stops and is increasingly oriented (rightly so) to generating business opportunities and business meetups, also providing information to thousands of international textile operators.

The “Trend Space” has always been one of the highlights of Heimtextil. It is located in Hall 3.0 and is very close to international textile designers, CAD/CAM suppliers and manufacturers of digital printers. This creates an exhibition and designing area that organisers hope will be dominated by inspiration and future technologies.

Sustainability and creativity at the highest level Great expectations for the next edition from February 11th to 13th 2020 after the important numbers, albeit with a slight decrease in visitors, of last September’s edition, which welcomed 56,154 people from all over the world. 2,056 exhibitors, 230 of them at their first experience with the Parisian fair, a growth of 2.5% compared to the year before, is the figure from which PV starts again after a lacklustre February not only for the fair but for the entire textile sector. 74% of visitors came from outside France and the 1.89% drop compared to September 2018 was attributed to a variety of factors such as the fluctuating economic outlook and a calendar clogged up with fairs and fashion weeks in conjunction. Milano Unica means trends, meetings and cross-pollination. A real reference point for the textile and accessories sector, an exclusive twice-yearly event attended by the leading and most important Italian and European manufacturers, as well as manufacturers from the Observatories of Japan and Korea.

Also at the next edition, the Trends Area will represent the culmination of the path that begins with the presentation events. In each season it manages to create inspiration and suggestions through its careful interpretations of contemporary society. Thanks to the painstaking research work of the style commission, it always manages to propose current and engaging creative explorations.

The Sustainability Project, now a cornerstone of the fair, will focus on one of the most important challenges for the future of the industry, stimulating dialogue and increasing the visibility of companies engaged in the implementation of major process innovations oriented to reducing environmental impact. The numerous areas planned will offer new insights and knowledge on each aspect of the complex fashion industry and particular attention will be paid to projects involving young talents and students of fashion schools.

• Sostenibilità e creatività ai massimi livelli Grande attesa per la prossima edizione dall’11 al 13 febbraio 2020 dopo i numeri importanti, sia pure in leggero calo nel caso dei visitatori, dell’edizione di settembre scorso, che ha dato il benvenuto a 56.154 persone arrivate da tutto il mondo.

2.056 gli espositori, 230 dei quali alla prima esperienza con la fiera parigina, la cui crescita del 2,5% rispetto ad un anno fa è il dato da cui PV riparte dopo un febbraio non esaltante, non solo per la fiera quanto per tutto il settore tessile. Il 74% dei visitatori è arrivato dall’estero ed il calo dell’1,89% rispetto a settembre 2018 è stata attribuita a fattori come il clima economico altalenante e a un calendario congestionato da fiere e settimane della moda in concomitanza. Anche per la prossima edizione, la sostenibilità sarà il fil rouge a Paris-Nord Villepinte, le aziende nel “green” investono e credono: lo dimostra l’affollato spazio Smart Creations, sempre più il cuore della Hall 3, e lo dimostrano i tanti dibattiti e incontri a tema che saranno organizzati nei tre giorni di salone. THE AUTUMN-WINTER 20-21 SEASON IS CHARACTERIZED BY A DENSE AND GENEROUS DECORATION: NATURE SERVES AS A GUIDING LIGHT, GIVING BLOOM TO ENCHANTED NIGHT FORESTS AND JUNGLES, POPULATED BY A PLAYFUL FAUNA The autumn-winter 20-21 season is characterized by a dense and generous decoration: nature serves as a guiding light, giving bloom to enchanted night forests and jungles, populated by a playful fauna. Florals gleam with a strange light and graphic foliage is inspired by animal motifs, becoming more abstract and marked by clashing waves. Colour palettes are carefully studied, playing with very dark tone-on-tones or contrasting shades featuring a charming dissonance.

MAGICAL NIGHTS A strange atmosphere between dusk, dawn and south american nights sublimates landscapes, creating a magical imaginary world where trees are tinged with mystical blues and intoxicating purples, where contours blur and the moon illuminates the vegetal world with an enchanting glow.

STRIDENT FLOWERS Paranormal, hybrid and very bright – the season’s flowers leave no one indifferent. They radiate a sinister shine, look strangely unrealistic, are inverted, solarized, stylishly deformed, without losing an inch of their allure.

STYLISED FOLIAGE Precise branchesand dense foliage mark the season. Veinings are highlighted, contours are crisp and arranged, and sometimes an entire tree emerges as the main subject.

Boundaries between plant and animal motifs blur, hybrid forms of foliage, animal, insect as well as layered graphics confuse the eye. This gives rise to a clever mimicry, creating deft graphic interference and camouflage.

INHABITED FORESTS Cockatoo, parrots, humming birds and fabulous long-tailed birds populate exotic nocturnal jungles. Monkeys, rabbits and other domestic animals hide in forests drawn with clarity and coloured imaginatively.

COLOURFUL WAVES The season’s abstracts tend essentially to marbling and its pigmented waves.

Colours are vivid, sometimes jarring, their motion varying from a slight water-coloured effect to more neatly drawn and full flat tints. Proposals are inventive, very alluring in their optical plays and colourful harmonies.

Irradiano un sinistro splendore, sembrano stranamente irrealistici, sono invertiti, solarizzati, elegantemente deformati, senza perdere un grammo del loro fascino.

FOGLIAME STILIZZATO Ramage preciso e fitto fogliame contraddistinguono la stagione. Le venature sono evidenziate, i contorni sono nitidi e ben disposti, e talvolta un intero albero emerge come soggetto principale.

I confini tra la sfocatura di motivi vegetali e animali, le forme ibride di fogliame, animale, insetto nonchè la grafica stratificata confondono l'occhio. Questo dà origine ad un intelligente mimetismo, creando abili interferenze grafiche e camouflage.

Green tech products drive growth COMFORT, ELEGANCE AND SUSTAINABILITY NOW GO HAND IN HAND. AND THERE’S NO TURNING BACK According to the wealth of data from the latest Première Vision Paris, Pitti Filati and Milano Unica among others, fashion is responding to economic downturns and international uncertainties with openness and commitment. Weavers face a broad spectrum of insecurity. The slowdown in Chinese growth, the slowdown in demand in Europe and protectionist tensions have undeniable consequences on the business climate.”But amidst the gloom, bright factors are perceived.

Now brands are committed to sustainable fashion.

This green wave is impacting all sectors. Topping the list of mobilized countries: France, then Germany and Scandinavia, according to reports from several exhibitors including Italy’s Omniapiega. This pleat specialist struck an immediate chord with a certified biodegradable recycled polyester. At Italy’s Achille Pinto and Lisa, as well as France’s Philea, the talk is now about the reality of recycled and sustainable materials. “Visitors are informed and determined,” adds Sara Canobbio. The company’s coordinator is presenting an exclusive collection of viscose fabrics labelled Fsc and Ecovero, polyester stamped GRS and REPREVE, and GOTS or BCI guaranteed cotton, and noted that: “The interest felt during the launch was clearly reflected at the fairs in the high-end French and Italian markets.” For Portugal’s Sampaïo, the shift is clear: “Some 30% to 40% of the requests we received are for environmentally friendly products. It’s a real groundswell,” says José António Silva from the company’s sales department.

Sports specialists are also catching the green wave and riding it. In the fast-growing Sport & Tech sector, companies were delighted with the welcome given to new products. “The results are exceeding our expectations,” says Giorgio Gallino, sales manager at Spain’s Sportwear Argentona. Its interlock knit in recycled polyester and Lycra headed up their orders. “Very positive moment”, said Italy’s Pontetorto Sportsystem, whose Biopile process (which doesn’t release plastic micro-particles in the water) was very popular. The same enthusiasm was expressed at Miti: “The meetings with buyers are very constructive and the attention given to our recycled nylon, polyester and elastane interlock is very gratifying” said Laura Gambarini, Marketing Director. Overall, recycled high-activity knits are in high demand, whether bi-stretch (Fieratex), fast drying (Tianhai, Miti) or made from water-repellent nylon (Hitop & Zentex).

Le aziende tessili stanno affrontando un’ampia gamma di insicurezze. Il rallentamento della crescita cinese, il rallentamento della richiesta in Europa e le tensioni protezioniste hanno innegabili conseguenze sul contesto del settore. Nel bel mezzo dell’oscurità si scorgono però elementi luminosi. I marchi sono ora impegnati nella moda sostenibile.

Questa ondata ecologica sta avendo un impatto su tutti i settori. E in cima alla lista si trovano i Paesi più mobilitati: Francia, poi Germania e Scandinavia, secondo i rapporti di vari espositori tra cui l’italiana Omniapiega. Questi specialisti delle pieghe hanno colto immediatamente nel segno con un poliestere certificato, riciclato e biodegradabile. Nell’italiana Achille Pinto e Lisa, e nella francese Philea, si discute ora sulla realtà dei materiali riciclati e sostenibili. “I visitatori sono informati e determinati”, aggiunge Sara Canobbio. La coordinatrice dell’azienda sta presentando una collezione esclusiva in tessuto di viscosa marchiato Fsc e Ecovero, poliestere marcato GRS e REPREVE e cotone garantito GOTS o BCI, sottolineando che “l’interesse percepito durante il lancio si è chiaramente riflesso nelle fiere dei mercati francesi e italiani di fascia alta”. Per la portoghese Sampaïo la svolta è evidente: “Circa il 30-40% delle richieste ricevute ha a che fare con prodotti rispettosi dell’ambiente. E’ un vero e proprio tsunami”, ha affermato José António Silva dell’ufficio vendite.

Anche gli specialisti dello sport stanno cavalcando l’ondata ecologica. Nel settore in rapida crescita Sport & Tech, le aziende sono rimaste soddisfatte dell’accoglienza riservata ai nuovi prodotti. “I risultati superano le nostre aspettative” afferma Giorgio Gallino, direttore delle vendite della spagnola Sportwear Argentona. La loro maglia interlock in poliestere riciclato e Lycra è un best seller. “Un momento molto positivo”, ha commentato l’italiana Pontetorto Sportsystem, il cui procedimento Biopile (che non rilascia microparticelle di plastica nell’acqua) è diventato molto famoso. Il medesimo entusiasmo è stato espresso in Miti: “Gli incontri con i buyer sono molto proficui e l’attenzione riservata al nostro nylon riciclato, al poliestere e all’interlock in elastan è davvero gratificante” ha affermato Laura Gambarini, direttore marketing. Nel complesso, i tessuti riciclati a maglia ad elevata attività sono molto richiesti, che siano bi-stretch (Fieratex), a rapida asciugatura (Tianhai, Miti) o realizzati in nylon idrorepellente (Hitop & Zentex).

HANWAG - Evorado Designed for fast-paced, sporty hiking, it offers flexible roll-off, but good torsional stability. The stand-out technical feature of the Evorado is its upper, which features particularly lightweight fabrics in a seamless construction. This is done by high frequency (HF) welding, based on molecular friction, which uses electrodes to cause the connecting TPU sections to rub until they get hot and soft and can be welded together. This process has three distinct benefits: there is no need for classic seams that can potentially cause pressure points and weak spots; overall weight is reduced; and the HF-welded sections are as hard-wearing as the material itself.

The upper, built using sturdy and protective suede, is equipped with a modern collar, which has technical fabric inserts and polyurethane applications that reinforce the entire structure of the shoe, without however weighing it down. The innovative Vibram Multiverse Hike sole, born from the collaboration between Kayland and Vibram, has a higher and spaced tessellation for better discharge of debris and dirt, while the toe and heel areas are wide to increase grip on dirt roads and during descent.

During the summer of 2019 we celebrated the desire of mankind to conquer space, to live beyond gravity, to reach those goals of which today Artificial Intelligence is probably an icon.

The theme inspired the creation of the materials of ARSUTORIA’s VISION LAB, developed following the key concepts of the coming Spring/Summer 2021, embodied with creative genius by the collaboration between Arsutoria and some of the most important companies of the sector. They gave rise to completely innovative proposals, capable of bringing forth new ideas.

Seamless materials (the only ones allowed in space) float in zero gravity thanks to soft and whimsical three-dimensional surfaces. Classic items are revitalised through coupling and laser processing, customising them carefully through applications, new pleats and contemporary material mixes.

Increasingly more attention is dedicated to sustainability, referring to both the ecological issue (heat-sealing, water-based adhesives, natural colours), and productivity (reuse of archive materials, film applications that save resources compared to wet finishing…).

Nell’estate 2019 abbiamo festeggiato il desiderio dell’uomo di conquistare lo spazio, di vivere aldilà della gravità, di conquistare quei traguardi di cui oggi l’Intelligenza Artificiale è probabilmente icona.

Il tema ha ispirato la creazione dei materiali del VISION LAB by ARSUTORIA, sviluppati seguendo i concetti chiave per la prossima Primavera/Estate 2021, incarnati con genialità creativa dalla collaborazione fra Arsutoria e alcune delle più importanti aziende del settore. Ne sono scaturite proposte assolutamente inedite, capaci di instillare semi di novità.

Materiali senza cuciture (nello spazio non sono concesse), che fluttuano privi di gravità grazie a superfici tridimensionali morbide ed estrose. Si rivitalizzano i classici accoppiando e laserando; personalizzando con cura attraverso applicazioni, nuove plissettature e mix materici contemporanei.

Sempre più attenzione si dedica alla sostenibilità, riferendosi sia alla questione ecologica (termosaldature, collanti a base acqua, colori naturali), che produttiva (riutilizzo di materiali d’archivio, applicazioni di film che permettono risparmi di risorse rispetto a finissaggi umidi…).
