EXPO 2015

THE CENTRAL DECUMANO AND THE CLUSTERS

The main street, the Decumano, crosses the whole site from east to west. One and a half kilometres long, it symbolically joins the place where food is eaten (the city) with the place where it’s produced (the countryside). On both sides of the Decumano stand the national pavilions of the guest countries: many of them will have their own self-built structure, while the others will be grouped together in Clusters. The Clusters are one of the new ideas at Expo Milano 2015: for the first time, countries aren’t grouped in collective pavilions according to their geographical area but on the basis of shared themes and foods. In this way, the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is applied in its broadest sense, giving a tangible form to the spirit of sharing, dialogue and interaction. The Clusters have communal areas that develop the food supply chain via practical zones (market, exhibition, events, tasting sessions). Each country present in a Cluster has its own display area, where it can show its own interpretation of the theme of Expo 2015.

THE CARDO AND ITALY

The Decumano will intersect with the 350-metre long Cardo, that runs from north to south and houses the showcase area of the host country, Italy. In Palazzo Italia, the country’s culture, culinary traditions and typical products will highlight the very best of its food and cultural habits. In the point where the two roads meet, the big central square of the Expo 2015 - Piazza Italia - will symbolise Italy’s meeting with the rest of the world. At the four ends of the Cardo and Decumano stand four of the most important structures of Expo Milano 2015: the Lake Arena, the Open Air Theatre, the Mediterranean Hill and the Expo Centre - fundamental points of reference for helping visitors find their way around the site, but also acting as venues for the biggest Expo 2015 events. In addition, they’ll remain as a priceless legacy for the events industry in coming years.

How to get there The Expo site lies at the crossroads of the A8-A9 ComoVarese-Milan and the A4 Turin-Milan-Venice motorways. It’s served by Line 1 of the Milan underground, the Milan Passante railway, local and regional trains, and high-speed trains. It’s also less than one hour from the three main airports of northern Italy (Linate, Malpensa and Orio al Serio). Visitors can enjoy the many areas of environmental interest nearby, including Parco delle Groane, the Vanzago Wwf sanctuary,

Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, Parco delle Cave, Parco Aldo Aniasi (previously Parco di Trenno), not to mention numerous historical residences and places. And the magnificent worldrenowned lakes Maggiore, Como, Lugano and Varese are within easy reach too.
