I was 3yrs old when we moved from Gowanda, NY to Eden. My grandfather and grandmother lived with us, and I think he is the one who bought the 2 family unfinished home for $3,500. FALL CAR MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

Each season, there are specific maintenance items that should be on your list for your next visit. The Fall begins to ring in the colder temperatures, which means fall maintenance checklist there are certain things you need to be preparing for in order to be er safeguard your car against the harsher weather to come. Let's go over some of the most important areas you should pay the greatest a ention to:

Visually Inspect Your Tires

Once the Fall season begins, and the weather begins to turn slightly colder, tires become very vulnerable. The autumn leaves on the ground also become a safety hazard by causing low tread tires to become slippery, especially when it rains. Inspect your tires to be sure the tread is not below 2/32 of inches and use a tire gauge for the most accurate reading. Ensuring that your tires are rotated also gives you the optimal advantage to grip the road. Additionally, check the air pressure of each tire for the proper PSIs (pounds per square inch).

Assess the Engine Oil Quality and Level

Use the oil dipstick to check the engine oil level and make any necessary adjustments by topping o the fluid. Assess the quality of the oil to make sure it appears in good condition. One way to know if your engine oil has su cient quality remaining is by looking at the color. New oil is always amber in color, and generally, it's see-through. Although it typically becomes darker over time, if the oil is extremely black, it's an indication that contaminants may be present. Compare your oil to the color of a Coca-Cola. If the color is similar, more likely than not, you're due for an oil change.

Check the Exterior Car Lights

Do you ever check your exterior car lights, or do you wait to get pulled over and be issued a citation? If you're in the second category, then consider yourself among most drivers in Philly. Get into a routine of checking your front and rear lights more often, especially during the Fall season as kids go back to school and tra c pa erns change. Remember, the Fall changes the natural sunlight pa ern, so it's an imperative safety check for early morning and late-evening commuting.

Additional Checklist Items

Check your roadside emergency kit for essential items, such as jumper cables, flares, a flashlight, and basic tools.

Check the windshield washer fluid reservoir and refill as needed. Check your spare tire to ensure that it is in place and properly inflated. Check your heating system by turning it on briefly to ensure that it blows warm air.

It was a beautiful summer day on July 1st when our Angola Public Library and Library Board of Trustees hosted our Annual Hot Dog Sale and corresponding Book Sale. The sales were most successful with combined proceeds exceeding $800.00! The entire community came out in full force as they always do to support the Library. Our cooks were Village of Angola Officials and included: Tom Whelan, John Wilson, John Dybowski, and Val Stonitsch. Val is also the village liaison to the Library Board. Also supporting us that day were members of the Central Library, which is located in Buffalo, N.Y. The bake sale was also a popular stop and people were very generous either by donating the baked goods or purchasing them. We also had tickets available for the Afghan Raffle for those interested; the winner will be drawn and announced at an upcoming Harvest Dinner in fall of this year. The gorgeous afghan was handmade by Jackie Haderer (Angola Library Trustee Emeritus) who paid us a surprise visit that day! Aprons were designed, made, and provided to “the help” through the generosity of Jack Keubler. It was a great day all around! 2023 Erie County Fair Display“Vietnam – the Impact on Our Community”

Each year the Erie County Fair suggests themes for the local Historical Societies to use when creating their displays. This year, the recommended theme was “Vietnam – the Impact on Your Community”. We have to believe that anyone who visited the Historical Building at the Erie County Fair this summer and viewed each of the displays, left the building with not only a sense of sadness, loss, and heaviness of heart, but also an extreme appreciation and awe for our brave soldiers who had the responsibility of carrying out what their country required of them. Those of us “stateside” can never know what our soldiers have been through no matter how many books we read or stories we hear about the tragedies of war.

Under guidance of Mr. Gifford Swyers, our historical societies were able secure the third-place award in this year’s competition. In early June, Mr. Swyers presented a detailed idea to the team with his model of a “mini display”. A tweak here and there and together were able to create an emotion packed exhibit that visually conveyed the war’s impact on our own community. Evans Historical Society once again graciously invited the Brant-Farnham Historical Society to join them with this endeavor.

Our display was made up of five sections or panels. The first section listed the Vietnam Veterans of Evans and Brant who had lost their lives while serving in Vietnam. “Our Fallen Heroes” – those courageous souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our country and our freedoms. The second section showed a person searching the VIETNAM WALL for a name of loved one; possibly a relative, friend or fellow soldier. Placed at the base of sections one and two, were three sets of weathered, yet shined combat boots. Framing section three were both the United States and POW MIA Flags. Section three contained sentiments entitled “WE REMEMBER” extending heartfelt thoughts concerning the memories of this war. In front of this section, we see the banner of the “Gold Star Mothers” and alongside the banner were red roses - a universal symbol of LOVE. The fourth section depicts a woman sitting beside an empty chair. The empty chair emphasizing the void left by the loved one who is never to return. The fifth and final section listed the names of our soldiers who physically served in Vietnam, and by the grace of God, returned home to our community. After having served our country in a faraway and unfamiliar land, once home they put their lives back together as best they could. Try as we might to gather the names of all our Veterans, at the time of the display we knew that we may not have a complete listing of everyone from our community who served. Therefore, to continue our search, upon a pedestal we had a notebook and pen available, encouraging visitors to include additional names not listed in the display.

We are proud of all who have served our country and we are proud that our display was able to capture the impact of the Vietnam War on our communities, our homes, our lives, and our hearts. The display is currently on exhibit at the Evans Town Hall and will be exhibited until Veteran

September is Passport Awareness Month

If you are making travel plans make sure you have proper and valid travel documents

Erie County, NY- The Erie County Clerk’s Office is celebrating National Passport Awareness Month by reminding the traveling public that my office is an official Passport Application Acceptance Agent of the United States Passport Service for first-time customers and children. Further, I would like to remind current passport holders to ensure that their document is valid prior to traveling.

Most tourists know they need a passport to travel internationally to foreign lands, however many are unaware that in a number of foreign countries, your passport must be valid for six months beyond your date of return. If your travel document expires before that, you may be denied boarding your flight or entry to your destination and be sent back home immediately upon your arrival.

This information is hardly ever mentioned by airlines upon making your international flight reservations. As a first step in planning any trip abroad, check to see what identifying documents are required for your intended destination and verify that your passport is valid for at least six months. If the expiration date is less than that of the cutoff, take steps to renew your passport right away.

So how much will a passport cost you in total? There are a number of factors that go into the cost calculation, including the type of passport you want, whether you're renewing or getting your first one, and how fast you need to obtain your travel document. With the new fee, the cost of a first-time adult passport book comes out to $165, comprised of a $130 application fee and a $35 acceptance fee. The price for renewing an adult passport book now totals $130. The price for a minor passport book for those under age 16 is now $135, consisting of a $100 application fee and a $35 acceptance fee. According to the State Department, the turnaround time for routine service, including passport renewals, currently can take 7 to 10 weeks. For $60 more, an expedited renewal application can take 4 to 6 weeks. Processing times can change at any time, so it is important that you check the status of your passport application online at travel.state.gov/passports.

Payment for the passport or passport card must be in the form of check or money order. No cash or credit cards can be accepted. A certified copy of your birth certificate and proof of identity, such as a valid New York State driver’s license or non-driver identification card, is required in order for any application to be accepted. Those looking to obtain a passport or passport card for any children under the age of 16 need to make sure both parents are present in order to sign the application.

The Erie County Clerk’s Office is open to the public and applicants can apply for a passport card and /or passport book at Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo, Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm or at the County Clerk’s Outreach Center, 1088 Union Road, West Seneca next to the Auto Bureau in the Southgate Plaza, Monday- Friday from 9am to 5:00pm and on Thursday till 7:00pm. Passport photos can be taken at either office for a fee of $10. No appointments are necessary.

Current passport holders with less than 6 months validity remaining on their travel document(s) must submit the renewal application directly to the Passport Agency by mail. Such renewals cannot be completed through the County Clerk’s Office. A complete list of instructions on how to renew a passport by mail can be found at travel.state.gov/ passports. However, the passport agents in my office will be happy to assist in making sure your renewal application is completed properly and also take your passport photo.

Additionally, U.S. travelers must meet the REAL ID compliance standard in order to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. A valid U.S. passport book, a passport card, a state-issued enhanced (EDL) driver license or enhanced non-driver identification card all meet the new security standard that goes into effect May 7, 2025.

Passport applications, a list of all required documents, and detailed breakdown of the new fee schedule are available by visiting erie.gov/passports or by contacting the Erie County Clerk’s Outreach Center at (716) 858-8864.

These scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. This allows our patients to be fitted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

Darrin Gabel of Lawtons, NY passed away suddenly Sept. 16, 2023 at the age of 52 years. Husband of Michele (Jakubowicz) Gabel. Fall Hydrant Flushing Notice

The North Collins Department of Public Works will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the village during the week of October 2nd, 2023.

Please be advised that flushing may cause some discoloration of water. This does not represent a health hazard. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing) as staining may occur. We recommend, because the flushing may occur over several days, to check your cold-water system for any discolorations prior to starting any hot water use. If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes. It is best to refrain from hot water use, to protect your hot water system, until the cold water runs clear.

The DPW regrets any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both firefighting and domestic consumption. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Contact the Village Office with any questions. 716-337-3160.
