Eden Community Foundation Grant Supports Eden Farmers Market

The Eden Community Foundation was pleased to provide a recent grant to the Eden Farmers Market to assist in the market's growth by helping promote this great community feature and enhancing visitor and vendor participation. The Tuesdays of June and July were filled with fun and interesting vendors and activities, concluding with last week's "Christmas in July" event. "We had a great 2023 season," said Eden Farmers Market President Michelle Gonter. "New vendors, new set-up and new schedule. We look forward to Fall Fest and what's to come in our 2024 season."

One of our members graciously allowed us to borrow and scan this photo postcard for our archives. The photo is captioned “Going through Farnham at 60mi per hour” and also has the comment “Walters photo”, which tells us it was most likely taken by Lynn Walters of Brant, N.Y. In the background we know that the street is Railroad Avenue and we can faintly see a white sign that seems to be advertising “Berns House” or “Berns Hotel”.

The postmark is dated Sept 24, 1909, out of the Farnham, NY post office. Addressed to Ethel Cogswell of Silver Creek, N.Y. the card includes a personal note from “Ed & Elena” that reads as follows: “We

are just taking this train for the fairgrounds. Did you miss me today dear. Oh Sheesh!”

Have you noticed the new Siding on the Eat'sa-Pizza. This building is older then it looks, and is shown on a 1866 Map The Henry Eckhardt Family owned it. My brother-in-Law Howard Clark was born there in 1920, being the son of Marie Eckhardt. He flew 30 missions over Germany during WW2 by the way. The front part of the house was used by Mrs Eckhardt as a millinery shop, was later Eden Coiffures Beauty Shop, I think owned by Tom Guenthers wife. I remember in my pre teen's getting a haircut there by

EDEN RESIDENTS:

The heavy winds that came through Eden during the night on Thursday, July 20th destroyed over 50 of the American Flags and poles that line Main Street. Some can be salvaged and repaired, but many cannot be saved and will need to be replaced.

Back in 2019 we asked for donations from the residents of Eden, and you came through for us so we need to ask for your help once again. We are seeking donations to purchase replacement flags and poles and brackets where needed to be put up along Main Street in Eden once again. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. For reference, replacement flags cost $25-$30 each and the flag/pole/bracket kit is about $70.
