Eagle Scout Nathan Henry

Boy Scout Troop 506 is proud to announce that Nathan Henry is our newest Eagle Scout. Nathan recently passed his Eagle Scout board of review and will receive his award at a court of honor on June 17, 2017. Nathan's Eagle Scout project was to build a BBQ pit for Trinity Episcopal Church in Hamburg, our charter organization.

Nathan had to plan, raise funds, purchase materials and supervise his fellow scouts in the construction of this structure, raising over $600 and accumulating 106 work hours. Nathan has earned 41 merit badges, a 50 miler award, and his religious emblem award. He is a sophomore at Hamburg High School. Proud parents are Dave & Cindy Henry of Eden. __________

Legislator Mills announces Funding for Blossom Garden Friends School, Cradle Beach, Boys and Girls Club Erie County Legislator John Mills announces that organizations in his district have received 2017 Summer Primetime funding to support summer programming.

The funding was included in a $500,000 package that was approved unanimously by the Legislature at its May 25, 2017 session. The Blossom Garden Friends School received $5,000, the Boys and Girls Club of Eden received $7,500 and Cradle Beach received $10,000.

“I am proud to support the Primetime Funding request for organizations not only in my district but throughout Erie County as they work to support at-risk youth during the summer break. The Blossom Garden Friends School, Cradle Beach, and the local Boys and Girls Clubs all do a great job serving our community,” said Legislator Mills.

Determination of Summer Primetime funding is coordinated through the Department of Social Services and the final proposal is requested by the County Executive’s Office. __________

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE June 6, 7, 8 & 9, 2017

The Eden Vol. Fire Dept. will be calling door to door on June 6, 7, 8 & 9, 2017 between 6:30-9:00 p.m.

If you will not be at home, please feel free to mail your donation.

The protection of your family, friends, home and property against fire and other emergencies is provided by trained people. We differ in but one critical respect from members of City Fire Departments - We are all VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS. No one is salaried. Participation in required training is all accomplished during the volunteer’s time away from work and family. Each year our firefighters raise funds through our annual fund drive and at the annual Corn Festival. This money helps to enhance services and equipment utilized to provide even better protection to our community.

We will remain a no Fee service.

The Angel And The Hurricane Just In Time For Graduation!

As the hurricane reaches full strength, Josh is troubled. Driving the Philips’ vehicle for the first time he has faithfully followed the directions provided by Mr. Philips. Now it seems the man’s poor night vision may be the least of his problems. Mr. Philips is disoriented. He has no idea where they are. Even so he is directing as if he knows the roads like the back of his hand. Josh realizes they are going in circles as he reaches a point where there are two options.

He takes the only one that he hasn’t tried twice before as the storm makes it increasingly difficult to control the car. Josh tries valiantly to protect Mr. Philips, his daughter Amy and her two friends Ruth and Paula from the storm. His responsibilities increase when an EMT sends his passenger with them away from a crash site. Their story of how they cope with the hurricane is an inspirational tale for teens and suitable for all ages.

On Friday, May 19th the Eden Central School District held its annual day of community service known as Raiders Respond Day. All students in grades K-6 participated in a project with a goal of giving back to our community. Some of the projects at GLP Primary included a car wash, a visit to Eden Heights, and a 1.5 mile Fun Run and bake sale to benefit the Eden Food Pantry! Classrooms at the Elementary School also had a wide variety of projects including a donation drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Club, creating centerpieces for Absolut Care, and volunteering at the library and Schwartz Field.

Groups of students and teachers from the Jr./Sr. High School participated around town and on campus by adding mulch to community spaces, planting flowers, and adding soffit to the reading shelter in front of the elementary school. Providing our students with opportunities to give back helps them to better understand our civic responsibility to be a productive, responsible, and caring society. Working together on such a positive mission helps us all to take great pride in the wonderful community we live in. __________

Fried Micheline Ann Fried (nee: Kasper) of Eden, formerly of Orchard Park, died peacefully Tuesday at her home with her children by her side following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in BuďŹ&#x20AC;alo in 1947, Ms. Fried taught at BuďŹ&#x20AC;alo public schools for many years. Mickey was the daughter of the late Thaddeus F. Kasper and Virginia S. (Arendt) and the cherished wife of the late Floyd F. Fried. She is survived by three children: Jill (Mark Antinore), Jessica (Gavin) Lankford and Andrew (Melissa Debayle) and ďŹ ve grandchildren: Elizabeth, Edward and Evelyn Lankford and Charlotte and Sienna Fried. Mickey is also survived by nine loving brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her.
