When in my pre teens visiting the Grandmothers house was a treat, especially because she lived on a farm. She and grandpa had about 8 cows, some red and white some black and white. Barns had a different smell in those days, like new cut hay in the hay mow. I remember my grandmother walking from the barn with two pails of milk, which had to be put in the milk house to cool. She made her meals on a stove which I think was kept hot with wood and a pump at the sink for water. The entire house was kept warm with wood stoves. She always had toys for us to play with. As I got older she would give out Christmas presents, mine was a box of handkerchief's with the initial F on them. The long trip home sometimes wasn't the best, I usually got car sick.. The picture is not the farm but used to be the Cleveland Colvin Farm who was Grandma's brother. Many family reunion's were held here on Route 39 Collins, NY

North Collins Basketball News

On Friday night, North Collins hosted Franklinville in the Quarterfinal Section VI Playoff Game. The Eagles came away with the victory by the score of 73-64. Matt Sweet lead all scorers in the game with 23 points. He also grabbed 8 rebounds, had 2 assists and 2 steals. Derek Ebersole scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Asher Parnitzke had his best game of the season at just the right time scoring 17 points, 9 rebounds and 1 steal. Walter Ebersole scored 10 points, getting 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Daniel Downes had 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Zach Quiter scored 3 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Jimmy Pagan had 2 rebounds and 1 assist while brother Alex had 2 rebounds in the game. Congratulations to the entire Eagles team. Now the team moves on to the Semi-Finals vs. Clymer on Monday, February 27 at 7:45 pm at Jamestown Community College.

GLP's Kings and Queens of Integrity

Southtowns Catholic School Girls Varsity Basketball

Each month Eden GLP students demonstrating good character are welcomed into the kingdom of character. The GLP focuses on a different character trait each month. The following students were crowned as the kings and queens of integrity. They were invited to a special after school program to celebrate their accomplishments. Students received a crown, a certificate and a free ice cream cone from Eden Dairy Queen.

What an amazing game our varsity girls basketball team had recently. The girls played Saint Peter and Paul of Hamburg and added another win to their season. We are grateful to our wonderful coaches, Mr. Swinarski and Mr. Fish for their dedication and time. Great season girls!

Is March coming in like a lion or a lamb? Was the groundhog right or wrong? What is going on with this weather?? Things seem to have been a little unsettled this year, but spring always comes and that’s what we’re waiting for.

There are subtle signs that the season is getting ready to change. There are new birds in our yards, a snowdrop or crocus may be popping up, and if you look closely at the trees their leaves are starting to be buds. And best of all the days stay light far longer than they did.

We may be a long time away from outdoor picnics and barbecues, but make no mistake, spring is coming!
