Legislator Mills names Glenn Nellis as December 2016 Citizen of the Month

BUYING TIMBER Erie County Legislator John J. Mills is proud to name Glenn Nellis as the Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month for 2016. Perhaps best known for his service as Town of Eden Supervisor, Mr. Nellis has been at the center of many boards and efforts, doing so much for the community.

“I have known Glenn for many years now, and just when I think we can’t possibly add more to his plate, he finds new ways to help our community.

Glenn sets an incredible example, and is a true leader. His dedication to the entire community can be seen in so many groups, projects and initiatives,” said Legislator Mills. “Congratulations to Glenn and thank you for all you do.”

Mr. Nellis was honored at the Dec. 15, 2016 Legislative session where he was presented with a proclamation recognizing him as the Citizen of the Month. He was joined by his wife, Linda.

Former Supervisor Nellis was the longest serving supervisor of the Town of Eden, serving for 18 years, from 1998 through 2015. During his tenure he noted that the town saw improved job growth, opportunity and needed services.

He is a founder of the Boys and Girls Club of Eden and currently serves as a board member, focused on inspiring and enabling children from Eden and surrounding communities to become productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Mr. Nellis is also a former president of the Association of Erie County Governments, and founder and current member of the South Towns Coalition for Community Enhancement.

In addition, Mr. Nellis is a founder of the Eden Regional Farm Museum and has been a member since 2006, and was named the 2015 Eden Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year for his unprecedented dedication to improving the community.

The Legislature honors and thanks Mr. Nellis, a Vietnam veteran, for his service with the United States Air Force as a member of the Strategic Air Command for the intelligence group, Lucky Dragon. He is currently a member of the American Legion, Post 880.

Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Why not start something new this year? Why not attend church regularly in 2017? Try one of our churches for a year. This is a resolution worth keeping. One that will produce a different result. We are studying what "LOVE" in its many facets really means this year.

We use the Bible as our manual. We can even get you a Bible when you come. For many of us a new life in Christ has been the greatest discovery we have made. We can help you find it as others once helped us. No one have ever regretted coming to know the Lord.

In our churches gather old and young, rich and poor, married and single, divorced, widowed, widowers, different ethnic groups, educated, non-educated. etc. The key is - give it a good try. Hope to see you Sunday. Happy New Year.

The program is designed for freshman and sophomores to learn and develop skills in challenging topics including: leadership ethics, conflict resolution, public speaking, and inclusive excellence. Students are then encouraged to apply what they have learned to their daily life so that they can successfully lead by example in their community. __________

Just try to imagine having nearly a foot of snow on 1000 ft. of driveway plus another 400ft. that needs to be plowed to make ready for a live nativity.... and your beloved tractor snow thrower is out of service. What a dilemma! Mike Bolo shared this with neigbor Bill Sam and asked if Billâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s son could use their tractor to do the plowing fairly soon and for pay. Bill excitedly told about their new super truck, plow, blower combination and said that he would have Will come over to do the job that very afternoon and not for pay!

Bob was a bus driver at Eden Central from 1998 - 2011. The students and parents called him Mr. Bob. The transportation drivers and staff called him Bob or Bobby Boy. Bob was a great driver with a wonderful sense of humor, a true gentleman and someone you would want as a friend.

She just celebrated her 88th birthday! She grew up with her mother, father and two brothers in an Irish-Catholic home on the east side of Buffalo, and was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. Her faith, her family, and her Irish heritage were the most important things in her life. Oh, and hockey! She was a big Sabres fan. She was married to John Blatner, the father of her six children, for 29 years, and to her second husband, Emil Laco, for 23 years.

Dorothy was loved by family and friends!

Visitation at Laing Funeral Home Inc., 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY on Friday, December 30 between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church in Eden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that mass be said in her memory.
