What Is the Warm the Children program?

Warm the Children is neighbors helping neighbors. Run by the Rotary Club of Hamburg, the program purchases new, warm winter clothing and footwear for needy area children. All tax-deductible donations are used to buy new clothing, as Rotary and the Town of Hamburg Lions Club pay for administrative and advertising costs with assistance from Evans Bank in Hamburg.

The Eden Boys Soccer Team finished their season on a good note. At their awards banquet they were honored with the ECIC Division 4 Team Sportsmanship Award. Individuals were also honored: Jason Porter (Team Co-Captain)- ECIC 1st Team; Tyler Jacobs (Team Co-Captian)- Team MVP and ECIC 1st Team; Jacob Schupp- Team MIP; Henry Young- ECIC 2nd Team, ECIC Division 4 Sportmanship Player of the Year and Team_______________________ Best Effort; Brandon Gregoire- ECIC 1st Team.

Area public school staff, local social service agencies and churches identify families and pass on contact information to the Rotary Club of Hamburg volunteer coordinator.

How Is Children’s Clothing Purchased?

The Rotary Club’s coordinator pairs families with volunteer shoppers who meet their families at Sears in the McKinley Mall and assist in selecting clothing for their youngsters. No money changes hands, as Sears bills Rotary Club of Hamburg for all purchases.

Eden Scout Troop 603 went on a 70+ mile bike excursion from Novemeber 11 to the 12th. First they rode 12 1/2 miles at Maurice Goddard State Park. Then they went to Franklin, Pennsylvania and rode 10 miles on Friday. They rode through Oil City on this bike ride. After a good night sleep in their tents in 30 degree temperatures, they rode 40 mile round trip with a turn around at Rockland, PA. This bike ride included long tunnels through the PA mountains. This is a Track to Trail path. The troop does this bike ride once or twice a year in Spring and/or Fall. _______________________

On November 17, 18 & 19 the Eden Elementary Drama Club presented A Charlie Brown Christmas. The show was a huge hit with the audience! Many students participated in the performance, either on stage or in the Chorus. Before the show, there was a spectacular elementary art show and music showcase that everyone enjoyed! Several adults also helped make the show a success by helping to build and paint sets, create costumes, process and distribute T-shirt orders, organize a cast party, distribute and take tickets, organize lobby sales and help with supervision.

It was great to see so many parents and community members working to help our students create such a great memory!

The Town of Hamburg Lions Club recently celebrated the organization’s 75th anniversary with an awards and recognition dinner for members and guests.

The club has members from various communities, including Hamburg, Lake View and Eden. Among those who participated in the ceremonial portion of the evening was George Spengler, a Lions Club member who resides in the Town of Eden with his wife, Alice, who is also a member of the club. Spengler, who was recently appointed as the club’s treasurer, served as the emcee for the event, which was held at Michael’s Banquet Facility in the Town of Hamburg. Eden Jr/Sr High School Drama Club is a Kenny’s Finalist!

This year, the Eden Jr/Sr High School drama club, has been selected to be one of 10 schools competing in the Kenny Awards. The selection process took place in October. First, a lengthy application had to be completed. The team spent hours gathering all the needed information to complete the application. As soon as the Kenny committee received the application, an interview was scheduled. This interview was conducted by a panel of about 10 judges, and lasted about an hour. Several of the adults who put the show together, including Mandy Bova (director/ choreographer), Jackie Gould (vocals/choreographer), Karen Pszonak (costume director), Susan Schnaufer (producer/stage manager), along with senior, Kristen Pszonak, were questioned for almost an hour on the creative and financial aspects of putting this year’s show together.

We are proud to announce that Shrek the Musical will be put on March 9, 10, 11 &12, 2017 at the Eden HS auditorium. Kenny Judges will be present at each show to judge the technical design & excellence, performance and choose the overall outstanding musical production of the 10 finalists! Each of the 10 finalists will go to Shea’s on May 13, 2017 for a day of theatrical workshops and will perform on Shea’s stage during the Award ceremony! This is an exciting opportunity to showcase our Eden talent and to grow as a drama program.

Correction officers are responsible for the custody, security, safety and well-being of criminal offenders and must supervise their movement and activities while maintaining order within the correctional facility. A correction officer Trainee’s starting salary is currently $40,590 per year. After six months, the salary increases to $42,695. After successful completion of the one-year traineeship, the salary increases to $48,889 per year.
