Kevin Neubeck Joins The Evans Agency, LLC

Kevin Neubeck has joined The Evans Agency Insurance as a Personal Lines Business Development Specialist, responsible for serving Western New York’s personal property and casualty insurance needs, including home, auto, life, and umbrella.

Most recently, Neubeck served as a personal banker for Evans Bank’s Hamburg location, where he assisted bank customers with banking and lending solutions. He joined Evans in 2014 after working in similar roles at HSBC and First Niagara.

County Investment Into Schoolhouse #8

Erie County Legislator John Mills has secured $10,000 for Schoolhouse #8 History Center & Museum, located in North Collins, to support this historically significant museum. Legislator Mills prioritized the funding in the 2017 Erie County budget, which was approved at the annual budget meeting on Dec. 6, 2016.

“After taking a tour of the Schoolhouse and meeting with members of the organization, I knew it was important that the county find a way to support its efforts at this time. I was incredibly impressed with the work being done and I believe this is a good investment, especially for a section of Erie County that is too often forgotten by the administration,” said Legislator Mills.

“We are extremely pleased and appreciative of this $10,000 grant to the Schoolhouse #8 History Center & Museum. These monies will allow for further preservation of an important part of our Country’s history, one room schoolhouses, where our education system originated. More specifically, this money will allow for the creation of a professionally generated DVD, for viewing by visitors to the Museum, that documents what it was like to be a student and/or teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. This DVD will include descriptions and experiences, as extracted from raw footage of videotaped interviews, conducted with a number of people who lived in the era of one-room schoolhouses. Having this video will truly enhance a visit to the Schoolhouse #8 History Center & Museum in North Collins,” said June Karbowski, President of Schoolhouse #8 History Center & Museum.

The funding was added into the 2017 budget without raising the bottom line, in fact the Legislature lowered the property tax rate. The Legislators encourage the County Executive to support the funding.

To avoid any misunderstanding or confusion, please be advised that the Town of Eden policy for replacement of a mailbox damaged beyond repair by a Town snowplow is the following: As a courtesy, the Town of Eden Highway Department will replace damaged mailboxes with a standard post and standard U.S. mailbox.

It is recommended that decorative mailboxes and those having sentimental value be temporarily replaced over the winter months by the homeowners. This policy applies only on roadways plowed by the Town of Eden Highway Department. Please have a safe winter motoring season. Thank you!

Obituaries

Clara H. Griffin

Clara H. Griffin, 92, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Friday afternoon December 9, 2016 at the TLC Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, NY surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born on April 25, 1924 in Fredonia, NY the daughter of the late Ralph and Leah (Stone) Hubbard. A lifelong area resident she grew up in a lovely old home on Route 20 with kind and loving parents, grandparents, sister and a brother. She was a graduate of Fredonia High School Class of 1941. During high school she played the violin, the piano and was in the orchestra. Clara attended Dunkirk Business School graduating in August 1942.

She worked for Citizen’s Bank from August ’42 until February ’46. On March 23, 1946 Clara married “her love” at the Fredonia Presbyterian Church.

Her life revolved around her family, they enjoyed countless wonderful picnics,

birthday celebrations and trips over the years.

There are many activities and hobbies she enjoyed.

Refinishing furniture, caning, baking and cooking, listening to music classical, country and hymns to name a few. Clara got a lot of satisfaction serving others, church duties, food pantry, grape festival lunches, Farm Bureau Women’s Group, 4H, P.T.A. and the church clothing center.

Boating was fun when her 3 kids waterskied.

In her younger years she did some downhill skiing also crosscountry skiing.

Ice skating was one of her favorites. Sewing was her favorite hobby for relaxing.

She liked to make kids quilts, pillows, pot holders, and knit scarves.

Clara’s memberships included the First United Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with Deborah Circle, very active with the Silver Creek Senior Center, the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Sheridan Senior Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna ( Lloyd) Nagel of Angola, NY, and Janet (Robert) Mays of Silver Creek, a son David (Wayne Lee) Griffin of Nunda, NY, four grandchildren, Jennifer League, Emily (Justin Miller) Azzarella, Bradley (Amanda) Mays and Ronald (Mary Ann) Straub, nine great grandchildren, Lily, Daisy, and Dean League, Rocco and Meadow Azzarella, Conrad Miller, Nathaniel and Leah Mays, and Olivia Straub, also a

brother John (Virginia) Hubbard of Cumming, Ga. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 62 years James Griffin, and a sister Elinor Armour.

Relatives and friends called at the HoleParker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave. Silver Creek. A Funeral Service took place at the First United Presbyterian Church at 35 Park Place in Silver Creek. Interment was in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Silver Creek.

Frederick C. Ressel

Frederick C. Ressel passed peacefully on Dec. 12, 2016 surrounded by family.

Born from Irish & Austrian parents, he was 85. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith Stephens, his four children Pam (Jeffrey) Shannon, Chip (Theresa Mullet), Susan (Paul) Kumleben, Woody (Lisa Kerl), 10 grandchildren, and his 93 year old brother, Ronald Ressel of Punta Gorda, FL. Fred was a Marine in the Korean War, General Manager of Fantasy Island, President of Charles Management Co. and proudly orchestrated the building of the UB Anderson Art Gallery. An avid sailor, he participated in the Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club Wednesday Night races, the Erie-Dover Race and numerous Hobie-Cat races. A professional ski instructor at both Kissing Bridge & Holiday Valley until the age of 80+, he taught his children and grandchildren to ski & sail at an early age.

Bicycling was more than a passion. After breaking his neck in a cycling accident, several short months later he hopped back on his bike!

A memorial service was held at Fox Run Retirement Community, One Fox Run Lane, Orchard Park, N.Y. ith extraordinary humanity. In lieu of flowers, Fred & his family wish you pay an act of kindness forward, just like Fred did every day!

On behalf of the Town of Eden and the Town Board I would like to wish all of our residents a safe and happy holiday season. We truly believe this has been a very exciting year for our Town and I wanted to share some of our news and accomplishments.

Exciting news for Eden…

*Eden was named the safest town in WNY and 15th safest town in the state of New York *Partnered with the WNY Land Conservancy, Eden participated in a grant application to protect two farms and are very excited to learn both farms were selected *Approved Kelly’s Place Apartments, 18 units are dedicated to senior housing *National filming company filmed a commercial in Eden, which led to donations to local businesses as well as to the Eden Police Reserves, Eden Emergency Squad and Eden Fire *Secured an additional $50,000 of grant funding from Senator Gallivan for the Eden Fire Hall Roof

Making our town more efficient…

*The town received an A1 credit rating (first time Eden was rated) *We refinanced our Rural Development Debt and saved the town $942,423.11 over the next 30 years *Reduced overall insurance costs to the town

Helping our local businesses and planning for our future…

*Secured the Erie County Commercial Center Improvements Grant, which assists local businesses in revitalizing the façade of their business *Received the New York Main Street Technical Grant to work with local businesses with design improvements to their building which will be completed with anticipated matching grant funding *Erie County has dedicated $45,000 to assist with our consultant cost for the town’s Comprehensive/Master Plan update
