So they try in their zeal to establish their own righteousness.

When asked, "What are you trusting in to get you to Heaven"? They may respond with some of the following: baptism, good works, communion, catechism, confirmation, sacraments, prayers, giving, sincerity, doing the best they can, etc. What are they doing? Trying to "establish their own righteousness."

The text above says they are ignorant of God's Righteousness where He demands perfection of us. They have not submitted unto the righteousness (perfection) of God. Those who do submit to God realize they need help. They need a Saviour. They believe. They find out that "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness." Stop making up your own standards for salvation--that's religion. Trust in Christ, not yourself--that's relationship. Believe on Christ and be saved.

Lisa Staby Rakiecki entered into rest October 20, 2017. Lisa was a proud lifetime resident of Eden, NY. She was born July 7, 1961 and grew up in a lovely family-oriented neighborhood with her brother Scott and sister Kristen, where she made many good childhood friends. She enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid skier at the local Ski Club.

She especially loved riding her horse, Judd, through the ďŹ elds in the country. She was active in many high school organizations throughout her years there, including wind ensemble, orchestra, chorus, national honor society, and she especially enjoyed being a member of the Embers yearbook club. Lisa graduated from Eden Jr./Sr. High School in 1979. She went on to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology from the State University of New York at Bualo.

She earned accreditation into the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Soon after embarking on her career, she acquired a position as a medical technologist with Catholic Health Systems, where she worked for over 27 years. She went on to work in blood banking and hematology at Mercy Hospital of Bualo. There, she had the privilege of working with some amazing co-workers turned lifelong friends. Lisa had a strong passion to help others and that was fulďŹ lled in her work. In her personal life, Lisa was a loving and caring wife and mother. Her ďŹ ve children were the center of her universe, and her weeknights and weekends were packed watching their sporting events, meets, musicals, concerts, and ceremonies. She tirelessly volunteered for their programs, decorating and baking for parties, working snack stands, and chaperoning the band tour several times. She was also a devoted ‘cat mom’ to her four cats. She was a committed Bualo Sabres fan and loved nothing more than to catch a game at home with her family. She loved to travel, and enjoyed several camping trips, road trips, vacations to Anna Maria Island, FL, and especially to the Adirondacks. This a special place to her, and she hiked, kayaked, swam, and even climbed Cascade Mountain. She was truly an incredibly caring, seless, positive, loving woman, and she will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

She was the daughter of Joan (late Dick) Staby, wife of Michael J. Rakiecki; mother of Lauren (Chris) Williams, John, Michael, Andrew and Adam Rakiecki. Sister of Kristen (Christopher) Rembold and Scott (Amy) Staby.

Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to all of Lisa’s many wonderful friends, coworkers and sta at Eden Central School; also to Father Water Grabowski and the parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church. Thank you for your love and support during Lisa’s long battle with ovarian cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 24th in Immaculate Conception Church, Eden. Leroy Winters, Sr. of Angola, NY entered into rest Saturday October 21, 2017 at age 76. Leroy retired from the Village of Hamburg Public Works Department. He loved spending time with friends at Camp Wilhelm (Clarksmills, PA), where many called him “the mayorâ€?. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Francis and his wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Leroy and Amy (Stelmach) Winters, Jr. and his grandchildren Michael and Brianna. He is also survived by his sister Doris Jean and several nieces and nephews. What Is the Warm the Children program?

Warm the Children is neighbors helping neighbors. Sponsored and coordinated by the Rotary Club of Hamburg for the past 11 years, the program provides funds for local families in need to purchase new, warm winter clothing and footwear for their children. All tax-deductible donations are used to purchase clothing at Sears in the McKinley Mall. Rotary Club of Hamburg pays all administrative costs, with assistance from Evans Bank and Town of Hamburg Lions Club.

How Are Needy Families Identified?

Hamburg, Frontier, Lake Shore, Eden and North Collins School Districts, along with local churches and social service agencies identify families and pass their information onto the Warm the Children coordinator.

How Is Children’s Clothing Purchased?

The Warm the Children coordinator pairs families with volunteer shoppers who meet them at Sears in the McKinley Mall, assisting them with clothing selection. No money changes hands, as Sears bills Rotary Club of Hamburg for all purchases.

Even if we can’t understand, wouldn’t it be a good idea to try not to judge too quickly? We need to try to understand and learn as much as possible about the feelings and point of view of the other person.

It’s not an easy thing to do. In fact, sometimes differing thoughts will never be understood. But attempting to understand can prevent differences in viewpoint from being needlessly distorted and, at the very least, it would be a worthy start toward better understanding.
