The autumn/winter fashion season is almost upon us so it’s time to sort through your closets and drawers and switch over your space from summer to winter. Hina Pervaiz Butt a renowned fashion designer, an entrepreneur and a member of Punjab national assembly, is undoubtedly a woman of substance and utmost candor. She has an excellent ability to succeed in every field of life.

Hina Pervaiz Butt a renowned fashion designer, an entrepreneur and a member of Punjab national assembly, is undoubtedly a woman of substance and utmost candor. She has an excellent ability to succeed in every field of life. Since her earlier days in LUMS she was always popular and appreciated by her mates. Due to her unique fashion sense, her friends and colleges used to look up to her. She had a good business mindset due to which she wanted to be an entrepreneur which seemed possible after she completed her MBA. With her Lums degree and acute business acumen she started her own brand “Teena by Hina Butt” in 2010, which turned into one of the most profitable fashion brand over time.

Here Ebuzz catches up with the chirpy designer for an inside look of her world.

Hina started her career as a fashion designer with few pieces which were sold off like hot buns out of the oven.

She took a start on a small level where she launched her brand with one rack, one tailor and a collection of 30 to 35 pieces. They had a EBUZZ

reasonable prices of the collection and the quality was exceptional.

The outstanding response they got for the first collection was in itself a great motivation. “At first we did off the rack clothes which were usually very casual as there was no concept of luxury prêt that time. But gradually we started doing a little bit of semi-formal because many times when the customer wants something formal for a wedding they had to go to the designer and place the order to get the dress which was very inconvenient. We were the pioneers to start off the rack semi-formal concept.” Hina said while telling us about her journey.

Hina revealed the secret to the way she manages to create a new collection for her rack every season.

“We have developed a system where we first start with a small collection of 30 dresses and keep a check on most demanding pieces and then send those in production to have more. Usually a collection is made only for two to three months and within that time the old collection is replaced with the new one.

Most designers don’t have a good collection on their racks as they keep their masterpieces in the studio,

which is only for branding. But at Teena by Hina Butt, the product which is available on racks will not be available in studio.

Talking about her couture work, Hina described couture as something that is designed with a lot of effort and time. “It is a garment that is constructed by hand so it usually takes effort and requires a lot of designing,” explained Hina.

When we asked about prices and quality thing that every designer swears by every season, Hina was of the view that they never compromises on the quality of the product and always gives fair prices.

“We challenge the trend of charging 300 percent set by other designers because we believes in giving the costumer good quality of product in good price.”

The talented designer talked about her designing process also which usually starts with anything that inspires her. “I get an idea and the whole team sits and researches the theme and works on the colour board and sketching so it involves a long process.”

I want to work for woman rights. I believe if we get a more educated lot into the parliament it would make a huge difference. And as far as fashion designing is concerned I don’t call myself a fashion designer I call myself a business woman.

As we get to know her better we find Hina to be a nature lover she told us about her inspiration which comes EBUZZ

from flowers, butterflies and other forms of nature. She said (pointing to her beautiful dress), “I am wearing a piece from my Eid collection and it has a flower with hexagon.” She further explained that they also did a collection named Rukne Alam which was inspired by blue pottery of Multan. So usually for her the inspiration can come from anywhere, a culture or a country or even nature etc.

When it comes to the bridal collection no one can guide you better than this proficient designer.

“We are always here to guide the costumers and give them good advice e.g. if someone is chubby we would never advise them to wear short shirts. We give individual appointments to customers and set one on one detailed sessions with them to give them a life changing advice.”

Further on she suggested golden colours for winter brides. According to her velvet and jewel shades would be in trending this winters.

Her main focus in BCW this year will be on a modern collection with a crystalline theme. Most of it would be pistol shades and cut work.

Hina gets her inspiration from her father in the field of business while in politics she looks up to Maryam Nawaz because she has a very magnetic personality and is doing a lot for youth right now.

When we asked her that how does she deal with the criticism and what would she advice the young fashion designers to deal with it she said, “ I live in a bubble I do not compete with other designers; I compete with myself. So when you engage in self-competition and live in your own world the criticism of others doesn’t bother you. Also I think that the people who criticize you think of you as being better than them so I would advise people to make their mind strong and push the toxic people away so they can no longer

lower you.”

When asked her about politics and her role as a simple woman she said that politics is her passion. “As a Politician I think of myself as an anchor person for a lot of younger crowd and woman. I want to work for woman rights. I believe if we get a more educated lot into the parliament it would make a huge difference. And as far as fashion designing is concerned I don’t call myself a fashion designer I call myself a business woman. This brand gives me a lot of happiness to be perusing it as a career. I am also a wife and a mother to an eight year old son so it’s a full time job. It’s like juggling with a lot of things but at the end of the day you are a simple person who is there for her family.”

Finally she spills the beans by talking about her husband saying that he is a very loving and caring person who goes out of the way and does a lot for her. Further she said that he is broad minded and very progressive and they travel a lot.

Hina Butt is a source of inspiration for all young fashion designers who want to achieve something in life. The way she manages her professional and personal life is rather astonishing.

Ali always comes on the ramp with dramatic collection. He played with bold colours and loud embellishments. The collection employed the latest techniques of laser cutting and makes use of new materials such as leather. Lustrous gold roses were also been integrated into the fabric to achieve a refined and glorious impact. The two super girls, Meesha Shafi and Sohai Ali Abroo walked the ramp. We loved the dress which Meesha wore.

Karma Red was about intense luminous colour, traditional handicraft, modern application, gota and gold embellishments. The collection consisted of two capsules titled “Shehzadi Rang Aur Samarkand Ki Rani”. Shehzadi Rang was bold, bright, beautiful, firecracker sexy, for the desi diva whereas Samarkand Ki Rani was romantic, pure glamour and quintessential in essence.

“Rosa” collection featured Madeleine Vionnet’s unique draping technique creating flowing and voluminous silhouettes with the right amount of flare. The colour palette featured muted golds, silvers and shimmering pastels. There was much use of embroidery in the form of ribbon work and fabric-based embroidery in the collection.

Elan showcased ‘The Jasmine Court’.

It was a breath taking collection.

The designer opted for a demure sensual silhouette steeped in tradition this time. The collection featured voluminous lehnags, floor length gown, gilded kurtas, kalidar angrakhas, voluminous peshwas, cut work jackets and gota hand work shawals and chaddars. Over all it was a coherent collection and very elegant.

The collection was very wearable. We loved each piece from the collection.

The silhouettes and cuts were inspired by the classic elegance of a bygone era, twisted to meet the modernity of the ever evolving Pakistani woman. The focus was on the overall silhouette that has been updated and kept on trend with the addition of peplum cuts and long jackets.

Nickie Nina “Neh Shikar� incorporated the signature style of designer duo, the versatility of which weaves into the workmanship. This year they came up with a good collection. .

A vast range of techniques, fabrics and colours were all aligned. Silk, jamawar, organza and velvets were joined with thread and zardozi to depict picturesque scenery from the natural habitats. Mira Sethi walked the ramp and her dress was impeccable.

The collection was the biggest hit of day two featuring short shirts, peshwas and jackets to ball gown skirts and farshi ghararas, moving into cropped, skinny, cutwork and flared pants. The ensemble had a lot of gold on the colours. There was a diversity of silhouettes, all of which come together to reinvent the classic bride of modern era.

Inspired from the fragrance itself and encapsulated in a bright and festive allure of colours, Nomi showcased an exquisite collection. Filling the collection with cholis and lehngas mixed with capes and corsets, the outfits were a treat to the eyes of any Pakistani bride-to-be. Each piece was incredibly detailed with motifs and embroidery and vibrant prints. Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat entertained the audiences as showstoppers.

The couture king stole the show. The collection was intricately detailed and extraordinarily feminine, which marked a return to a demure and softer color palette and silhouette. With a strong focus on the use of fabrics both timeless and pure, HSY celebrated his true passion for embroideries and surface embellishment with this collection.

I really enjoyed Nomi Ansari’s collection as it was full of colour and life. Blend of various festive colours just like our weddings and I also think that Shameel was very original as her collection was outstanding in terms of creative revolution..

I loved the collection presented by the talented trio Rehan Bashir, Kamiar Rokni and Tia Noon of ‘The House of Kamiar Rokni’. Their collection was beautiful, structurally sound and most important refreshing. They truly managed to reinvent the traditional bridal look showcasing how the design house has evolved over time while maintaining a signature style.

The House of Kamiar Rokni had the most outstanding collection. Each outfit was a work of art, a study in how to emerge traditional fabrics and techniques with modern silhouettes. The play on colour was gorgeous.

It was not too long ago, eleven months to be precise, when I first visited my favorite city Tokyo. They’re many aspects about this extraordinarily fascinating city that keeps pulling you towards it. Unlike my first trip that was purely a business trip with no time to wander on the streets to explore the city better, this time around my trip to Tokyo involved shooting a documentary that made me fall in love with the city all over again with memories that will always remain an important part of my life.

This is a city that lives, breathes and eats fashion; quite literally if you ask me! My six day stay in Tokyo made me realize that you can never spot an unstylishly dressed Japanese walking on the streets or shopping inside a mall especially the youth. Culottes pants coupled with a short top and high heels was very much in trend amongst young women while young men preferred a cool pair of faded jeans with a bright shirt and runners. What was common between both men and women when it came to street style was a cool headgear to finish the look; usually a big hat for women and baseball cap for men. And while on the subject of fashion it wouldn’t be wrong to mention that sale is definitely one of the most awaited times of the year that brings people from different parts of Japan under one roof in some fancy mall of Tokyo.

While walking on the streets of central Tokyo one can’t help but notice girls dressed in mismatched colored outfits with oversized boots, perky accessories, edgy wigs; trust me if you’re walking around the Harajuku area you can’t help but notice the famous Harajuku girls!

It is the center of Japan's most extreme teenage cultures and fashion styles, but also offers shopping for adults and some historic sights.

to Tokyo and not take a walk across the famous intersection outside Shibuya Station. The surrounding areas are always packed with shoppers, students, young couples and commuters.

When the lights turn red at this busy junction, they all turn red at the same time in every direction. Traffic stops completely and pedestrians surge into the intersection from all sides, like marbles spilling out of a box.

I usually observe this moment of organized chaos from the second-story window of the Starbucks in the Tsutaya building on the crossing's north side.

While walking on the bustling streets of Tokyo it felt sometimes that the locals took to graffiti to express their views; the walls drenched in different colors, creative visuals and random words truly projected the creative side of this unique city.

What striked me most about the city was the fact that even though English was not widely

spoken the locals would never leave you alone stranded on the streets if you had lost your way.

In-fact they would try helping you out by explaining it through a GPS device or seek help from someone on the streets who speaks in English; rare quality that you may hardly find in other countries.

No matter what time of the day it is the person at the counter will always treat your money with respect and gratitude; they would politely request you to place the money on a small tray for payment and would return the change, if any, in the same fashion.

In Tokyo you have to stand in a queue; you can’t just stop a taxi or walk into an ice cream parlor if there is a queue piling outside. You just have to stand in the queue and wait for your turn; tough task for a Pakistani who is alien to such a social behavior.

because youngsters use them even in the shower, there is a Cat Cafe where you can go to drink coffee and hang out with cats for hours, sleeping on the job is acceptable in Japan, as it's viewed as exhaustion from working hard, around 24 billion pairs of chopsticks are used in Japan each year, black cats are considered to bring good luck in Japan and Burger King has an all-black burger.

As my trip to Tokyo came to an end I couldn’t wait to visit this amazing city again. From the great hospitality to the respect they give to tourists, Tokyo is indeed a memorable city that stays in your heart forever!

London, Pakistan Fashion Week 8 was held at Central Hall Westminster, the 17th century architectural gem in London. It was a successful event highlighting some of Pakistan’s premier fashion labels.

The two day colourful event was attended by a large number of fashion following ladies of England who were delighted to see an array of fashionable clothes from Pakistan, being displayed on the ramp constructed in the huge halls of the historical building.

The two-day event focused on latest trends in Asian designer-wear including contemporary and formal/bridal selections, showcased by renowned designers including Sonya Batla, Arshad Tareen, Sara Rohail Asghar, Lajwanti by Ana Ali, Aisha Naheed, Black n White, Bombay Stores, Chic n Kari, Erum Khan, Hassan Riaz, Hamna Amir, Javandi, Khadija & Ubaid, Mashaal Moazzam, Moazzam Abbasi, Nadia and Sahar, Nafeesa collection, Ahsan’s menswear, Novaira’s Collection, Rana Noman, Rani Eman, Refat Naz , Romana Rani Minahil, Sadaf Amir USA, Saira Shakira, Shazia Kiyani, Somal Halepota, Stussh, Tania’s Collections, Umshah and Warda Prints.

My experience in Hum Tv was unbelievably nice. I joined it 11 years before when the channel was new and it was my first Job. Sultana Appa offered me that job. I meet her for an interview for star weekend and after that interview she offered me a job in journalism related firm because I had journalism background there she asked me to write a newsletter and then she offered me a job in Hum Tv. At that time I had no idea about PR. What are your new ventures?

Everything which I have been doing from last 2-3 decades, basically I am a lot into social work and from long time I wanted to connect both CSR and Co-operate work together which was not possible there and now I feel it’s the time to give back our country which we have got from it.

My company name is Star Link. Our aim is to promote our client in best possible way but in two forms, objective is to formed not just to assist our client but to build our image and serve our country. We are going to work for everyone which was not possible before.

Ehtesham Ansari is famous for styling an endless list of the biggest names. Becoming a stylist was always something he dreamt about. Based in Karachi and Dubai, he has been working since 2006. He has not only styled the people from fashion industry also he had a major contributions in Lollywood, sports and others.

In an exclusive interview with Ebuzz, we asked Ehtesham to share few words about how his career took off and what are his experiences in the fashion industry.

Brings out the beauty in you Tell us about your approach to styling.

Styling is something spiritual, it comes from within, and it’s an expression. I feel like an artist who paints blank canvas or a writer who takes a reader on a visual journey.

Were there ever any doubts in pursuing fashion and styling? Did you have a plan B or was this the only option?

No doubts ever! Life is too short for regrets and Plan B. I always followed my instincts and believed in them I opted for an art school over medical college, I got opportunity to work in the UK during and after my masters, Dubai folder has added new dimension in my credits. Journey was not a piece of cake I still remember, I was advised by someone to pack my bags and go back to the UK as I will not survive in the industry but I took it as a challenge work hard and stayed focus It has been almost a decade. Now I work as a celebrity stylist and looking forward to explore, learn, grow, contribute and make memories of living my dream.

INTERVIEW Styling is all about ideas and fashion sense, what are some of the personal style philosophies you swear by for all of your clients?

One can be anything but Vulgar Tacky or Tasteless!

What is the most important element a stylist should keep in mind while dressing any one?

Stylists add oomph to the garments in a unique manner. They suppose to enhance the personality. One should know where to stop be it OTT or less is more strategy.

Dressing celebrities must be a dream career for many stylists. How did you get started?

Your work should speak for your self. God has been kind enough to provide me with the opportunities and I followed basic strategy work hard and stay focus. It helped me to improve and perform better. Celebrities got to know me through my work and they started approaching me for various projects. My dedication loyalty and focus towards my passion helped me and still helping me to explore new avenues.

How do you choose what looks work for each individual client?

It comes naturally (laugh). On a serious note its takes lot of effort. Understanding your client vision and requirement. Developing the look and execute it by keeping body type and body language in mind. Since I am focusing more now on feature films I read script understand the character and then start working on the looks.

What trends are you loving right now?

Men: I am glad men locally has started experimenting with their looks. They are willing to add color in their daily wear and has started exploring footwear.

torn and washed out Denim, return of 70’s , Khaki burgundy and browns colour pallet.

Women: High percentage of our women is lawn addicted. It’s kind of lazy approach however it impresses me if I find aesthetically put together a different take on lawn three piece.

Career highlights so far?

I have lost the count (laugh) • Styling Manchester City Foot ball club for airline Endorsement and IPL KKR for Retail Brand.

• Coke Studio seasons 7 & 8 • Fashion Shows LFW – Fashion TV Middle East –ME Fashion week.

• Feature Films – Zinda Bhaag & Jalaibee.

• Styled almost all the A-List celebrities from Pakistan and few from Bollywood.

What’s the average day like in your world?

My world is very simple. An average day includes productive discussions healthy food a good read and good laugh.

Best and worst things about your job?

My work is an absolute passion.

And when you are passionate about anything you always enjoy it.

What’s the best style advice you’ve received?

No one can go wrong if the fit is right and knows how to carry.

Who are your fashion icons?

It keeps on changing. These days I am following Amal Clooney.

Upcoming projects I have announced the very first style studio of Pakistan. The studio will open its door in January 2016. It’s going to be a place where style is translated in to looks and actions.

That’s actually funny because right now all my hand bags are empty because as soon as I get home I take everything out of my bag and put it in my cupboard. Usually what I carry in my hand bag is my wallet, a gloss, my credit card and my car keys.

5. Most precious thing in your wardrobe?

Everything is precious I love everything in my wardrobe but one thing which I never mind repeating is my Jimmy Choo bag.

6. One thing you can’t live without?

My mom and my family.

7. Most embarrassing thing you have ever done?

Recently I was in Lahore for a shoot and I went out for a dinner with my friend and there I forgot to take my wallet. After dinner my friend asked me if I could give 200bucks and I was like sorry I forgot my wallet. But otherwise I’m really particular about everything.

8. Biggest shopping mistake you’ve ever made?

I am a shopaholic. I shop crazily. It’s never a mistake and whatever you shop can wear somewhere.

9. What’s your favorite place on earth?

London, Belgium, Maldives.

10. What’s best about modeling?

It depends on person to person, but for me I love travelling, I get to travel with my friends for shoots. They give you pretty looks and that makes you feel like a princess; I just love that feeling.

11. What’s worst?

It depends on you how you treat. Some people are ready to do anything for the sake of fame to reach that point but as I told you I am not here for this. So I really don’t feel anything wrong or negative about modeling.

12. What do you dream about?

Right now I wish about a holiday to London with my friends.

Because I have been dying for a holiday from last four months I have been working 24/7 and no travelling.

13. Your makeup essentials?

If you see my wardrobe which I am doing right now you’ll find Mac and Chanel because I can’t trust any random brand and I think Mac really suits Asian skin. I have been using these brands since childhood.

14. What do you like else modeling?

I love to spend time with my family; whenever I get time I go to my sister’s place and spend time with my nephews because you can get that pure love from your family only.

EXPRESSION OF SELF: A journey from wedding dance to pure classical form of dance kathak, Adnan Jahangir is one of those who broke all the barriers of society to pursue his passion. Graduated in communication design from National College of Arts, he is a talented dancer and choreographer from Pakistan who started learning Kathak from Bina Jawwad in 1999 and since then performed nationally and internationally. His performance shows that dance is an expression of self which initiates the journey of love.

A great chance of meeting him and having a conversation with him allowed us to know a little more about our artist.

What made you interested in doing Kathak Dance?

I was never interested in dance beyond dancing at weddings but I always saw myself pursuing what I was passionate about. It was when I saw Sheema kirmani (Odissi dancer), Nahid Siddiqui, Fasih ur Rehman & Nighat Choudhry (Kathak dancers) and from there I decided to practice dance professionally. I tried to approach Sheema Jee and Nighat Choudhry but they were based in Karachi. Then I met Mrs Bina Jawwad. She taught me classical dance and she really groomed me for the performing arts. Then I got chance to groom myself more with Nahid Siddiqui. Then I had various opportunities to attend short dance workshop with Kumudini Lakhia jee (Kathak Maestro, India) & finally from 2011 to onwards I was instructed by Guru Rajendra Gangani jee. He played a very positive role in my life as Guru.

You are well known Kathak dancer- What exactly is the reason which provoked you to pursue a career in dance?

I never thought that it would become my career. It’s the dance which chose me otherwise there were many times in the last decade that I would have quit.

Acceptance by the public of Pakistan is something hard to come by in this field. My Guru jee (Rajendra Gangani, India) advised me once, “It is your destiny and you have to face the reality; you may suffer but maybe your art will help inspire the youth as well as your audience.”

What percentage of the young generation, in your opinion, still prefer to go for traditional dance form , in place of western dance form?

I have experienced that mostly serious young people are interested in classical as an audience but a much smaller percentage decides to adopt it as profession. Mostly young men do not want to be perceived as feminine. To become a classical vocalist or instrumentalist is more considerable than a dancer. But overall the rate of individuals pursuing this art as career is quite low.

Does the perception of Kathak as an art form

differ in different parts of the country?

The perception of kathak is either that of a dance belonging to prepartition India or as something else is understood. People are mostly unaware of Kathak and the world of classical dance at large.

Their understanding of dance as an art form does not go beyond depictions or interpretations of classical dance in films with ‘ghoongroo’ etc. In many cases the perception is limited to ‘Kothey wali/ Bazari’ dance. After the partition there have only few people who took dance as an art form and worked for its development. But unfortunately many of them also had different perceptions. They were too busy doing their own programs or establishing their own careers and had no vision to educate the audience as well. The only few names promoting this craft were Ammi Minwala, Indu Mitha and Bina Jawwad.

Do you believe that an Artist has a certain special responsibility towards the society?

Absolutely, an artist always played a very important role in inspiring society. However, most artists do not uphold this responsibility with www.ebuzztoday.com

much seriousness. I always work/ choreograph or dance to promote the integrity of the arts and to deliver the message that dance is not something you can label with morality but it’s the people who have used dance as a tool for showcasing the wrong things with wrong intentions.

I have performed in USA, UK, (in a dance production as dancer/ assistant instructor) and also did solo shows in Italy, India, Turkey and China.

You have performed internationally too. How was the response of the audience there? How much did they like this form of art?

I have performed in USA, UK and did solo shows in Italy, India, Turkey and China. Although we had a language barrier but people are able to interpret your body language and it’s the only movement which connects them with you and whatever you are trying to communicate. When I receive appreciation from foreign audiences I am proud to represent a positive side of Pakistan.

What according to you should be the basic qualities of a good dancer?

The most important thing is to feel the power of the ‘Rhythm’ beneath the ‘Surtaal’. Dance is a movement, not just of the body, but of the soul. As the spiritual energy flows www.ebuzztoday.com

through the body the spirit itself gazes upon the universe, breaking through all limits and boundaries.

So, feel the ground beneath your feet and gaze on to the spiritual energy pulsing through you and give it back to the world through vibrations of music & dance and this only happens when a dancer

feels it or experience this energy so then the dancer catches the audience in his/her spell.

Have you faced any criticism or opposition for choosing to be a dancer?

Yes, firstly from my family because they were unaware of this kind of activity and then from the artists who actually think that everything is under their control; they often let their egos get in the way of including others; it’s a competitive field. I believe if I always treat my work as priority and deliver with sincerity and hard work I will flourish. Usually the people who write about you don’t have the technical knowledge associated with this profession. The write opinion pieces based on their own liking or disliking and it’s really something which kills the essence of the craft. I always those such as my teachers or anybody who really knows about this craft as providers of healthy criticism.

What are your other passions in life apart from dance?

Watching movies and eating; like any Pakistani. I also choreograph and also perform for corporate and private entertainment events.

Travel diary

From where did you shop? What you like to buy?

I shopped from Old Medina of Casablanca which is located in the old part of the city with narrow paths and twists magically filled with delicious aromas of street food. I love shopping at these authentic and lively spots to buy Arabic items. The jewellery and home decorations were beautiful and there were handmade morrocon handicrafts. I bought some morrocon dresses and skirts and beautiful hand bangles and handmade Bags and also few authentic morrocon things which are not available elsewhere.

What do you love most about travelling?

I love exploring different cultures; trying out there traditional foods, meeting new people exploring the city shopping for authentic stuff. Travelling gives me a chance to try out different local food shop at streets walk around.

What different things you explored their?

In Casablanca it was Hassan 2 mosque Anfaplace Shopping Center and Museum of morrocon Judaism. I also went to ‘Marrakech’ which is known as the Red City and Morocco’s secondlargest city. It had a vast marketplace of selling herbs and potions, carpets and candles, jewelry, spices, meat and metalwork. Last but not the least it was ‘Agadir’. If interested to soak up the sun must check out the well maintained beaches of Agadir.

In the recently held Red Bull Thre3style World Finals in Tokyo Pakistani DJ Shah Munir was invited by the organisers of the event to experience the largest, most awaited DJ competitions in the world. While Shah Munir took this opportunity to interact with promising DJ talents from different countries participating in the competition and DJ legends such as Z-Trip, Jazzy Jeff, he even spent some time exploring the vibrant city. An exclusive documentary was also shot by Pakistani filmmaker Bilal Khan from Moving Images capturing Shah Munir’s experience both at the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals and his time spent in learning more about the city that is indeed one of the best cities in the world!
