MESSAGE FROM ADVISORY BOARD CHAIRPERSON 2022 (VOLUNTEER)
CARMELAMANCINI
DUNK has succeeded in touching the hearts of many through its persistent and courageous efforts Starting from humble beginnings, the organization has invested in capacity building for its staff, taking each step with determination.
Dunk's long-term vision is grounded in serving the most disadvantaged communities, which remains its programs' core focus The upcoming year, 2022, represents a decade of hard work, dedication, and love. Being associated with the DUNK family and having served as the Board chair is an honour
The next generation will shape the future and must have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to create positive change. DUNK is about giving young people the skills, knowledge, and support they need to take control of their lives and shape their communities When young people are empowered, they are more likely to be engaged in their communities, take on leadership roles, and create positive change. Additionally, youth empowerment can help to break the cycle of poverty and inequality by providing young people with the tools they need to succeed.
PROGRAMMES
01
EQUALACCESSTOSPORTS
Providing equal opportunities for boys and girls to access sports is crucial. Sports participation offers various advantages for children, such as enhanced physical fitness, boosted self-confidence, and improved socialization abilities. DUNK promotes gender equality by ensuring that everyone has equal access to sports, arts and culture, thus aiding in dismantling gender stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive society
02
EDUCATION
DUNK's after-school education program offers students additional learning opportunities beyond conventional school hours. Its purpose is to supplement and enrich the knowledge and skills students acquire during regular school hours This program is particularly advantageous for students who need access to these resources in their homes or familiar school environment. Overall, DUNK's after-school education program is a crucial resource for students from diverse backgrounds and ages, ensuring they have equal access to the educational resources necessary for their academic success.
03
YOUTHEMPOWERMENT
The Playmaker education program, or the youth empowerment program, relies on a peer-topeer learning approach. It draws inspiration from the empowerment model established by our partner GAME in Denmark, which is based on the core life skills defined by the World Health Organization. This model tackles significant societal challenges and operates across three levels - Individual, Group, and Community - to facilitate the comprehensive development of Ghanaian youth.
04 LIVELIHOOD
The program aims to empower at-risk youth and single mothers in Jamestown through vocational training and personal development courses. Their goal is to provide not only economic independence but emotional and intellectual independence as well. DUNK believes that women's empowerment and the well-being of children depend on raising awareness of their capabilities and achieving balance free from conditioning
