Our St Brigid’s Day Fair will be on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 February 2024 Our next fair will take place Saturday and Sunday 3 and 4 February 2024 and will be all about celebrating the creativity of women, Spring, Brigit and St Brigid’s Day. Visitors are invited to stop by and shop from artists, designers, and makers, attend a family-friendly creative workshop, indulge in some locally sourced food and enjoy entertainment in our garden.

These quarterly fairs showcase the talents of creatives and social entrepreneurs whilst providing genuine gifting options, as well as promoting culture, creativity and conversation.

Try out something new in 2024! Join us for workshops, talks, tours and classes as part of Culture Connects @ Richmond Barracks. Culture Connects is our year-round programme that invites people in Dublin to try out new things.

You are welcome to visit us Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, with regular late opening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can take part in one of our many workshops, talks and tours, or simply drop by to visit this historic building, browse in Inchicore Library (also open on Mondays) or enjoy our peaceful garden space.

Goldenbridge Cemetery tour

€10 full / €8 concession ✔ Join us for a guided walking tour of Ireland’s first garden cemetery, founded by Daniel O’Connell almost 200 years ago, as Ireland’s non-denominational burial ground for any and all religions. The tour is approximately 75 minutes.

Dance Delights Join Richmond Barracks dance artists in residence Philippa Donnellan and Mia DiChiaro to try out different dance styles in ✔ a relaxed and friendly environment. It is a great chance to enjoy moving your body, meet new people and have some fun.

No prior experience of dance is needed and you can move at your own pace.

Sing for Fun

Our drop-in singing workshop continues in 2024. Sing for Fun is for anyone who is interested in singing as part of a group to feel good. Learn to sing different songs and do fun vocal warm-ups and exercises. No singing experience needed, just a willingness to take part and enjoy yourself.

Felt Dancing - dance and textile art workshops Felt Dancing is a series of taster workshops that combine dance and felt making. The workshops are led by Richmond Barracks craft artist in residence Niki Collier and dance artist ✔ in residence Philippa Donnellan. Join Niki and Philippa to explore different fabrics, fibres and textiles. Together they will sculpt parts of the body through the ancient craft of felt making and respond through movement to create fibre-inspired dances.

Introduction to watercolour painting

Join visual artist Michele Hetherington to explore the exciting possibilities of watercolour painting from sketch to finished work.The workshops will give an introduction to materials, paper and the basics of colour theory. Each week you will learn through ✔ different colour experiments and compositions drawn from landscape, still life and abstract forms. These workshops are suitable for complete beginners or artists wishing to explore a new technique.

Smartphone film-making

Join filmmaker Robert Fitzhugh to learn how to make films on your smartphone. These practical workshops will give you experience of the whole process from story generation and storyboarding to filming, editing and showing your work.

Please note you must be able to attend all four of these workshops as you will be making your own film over the four weeks. These workshops are for adults.

African drumming workshops

Start the new year with a bang! Join Nico Severin from the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm for this weekly African drumming workshop. Over the course of six weeks you will learn basic rhythm and drumming techniques. No experience is required and you can book to come to one session or come to them all.

Sustainable Saturdays: Reuse and repair social Upcycle your old clothes into new treasures! Use your creativity to keep textiles out of landfill, chat and meet new people. ✔ This monthly clothes upcycling workshop is led by Change Clothes Crumlin, a community based clothing reuse hub.

Saturday 10 February at 10 am

Make a salve

During this three hour workshop you will learn how to make your very own healing ointment. Using plants from the Richmond Barracks garden, you will learn about ethical harvesting, methods of drying and infusing plant materials to create your own simple herbal remedy. All materials provided and participants will take a sample home with them. This workshop will be run by Maggie O’Keefe of Dublin Herb Bike.

Martenitsa are traditional Bulgarian decorations made to welcome in the springtime. They are gifted to loved ones to bring good luck and good health. Join craft artist in residence Niki Collier to make your own Martenitsa and learn about the origins of this tradition.

Monthly community dinners at Richmond Barracks Wednesday 6 March and Wednesday 3 April from 5 pm to 7 pm Join us for a community dinner on the first Wednesday of March and April. A perfect opportunity to enjoy some wholesome hot food before attending one of our workshops or talks, or to drop in for some food and a chat if you’re in the area.

FoodCloud Kitchen will be serving a menu of seasonal food which will include a drink, a main course and a dessert, all for €10!

Bígí linn le haghaidh oíche ceoil, rince agus spraoi chun Seachtain na Gaeilge a cheiliúradh. Join us for a night of music, dance and fun to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. Led by céilí ✔ caller and sean nós dancer Louise O’Connor. Louise will be calling out the dance steps, so this céilí is ideal for novices and less experienced dancers. Be prepared to make use of your cúpla focail and have a lot of fun! Comfortable shoes essential. This is an alcohol-free event for adults/over 18s.

Street art camp

Join local street artist Miguel Vergara to create your own street art and learn about what it is, where it comes from and who it’s for. Fancy learning how to create your own character or work on your own tag? During this camp you will get to experiment with various mediums, including spray paint. The Street Art camp is for ages 15 to 18 and ideally you should be able to come to all three sessions. There will be a nominal charge of €10 for the three days towards the cost of materials and refreshments.

Our Biodiversity Worksheet Pick up our biodiversity worksheet for Children Learn about the importance of biodiversity and protecting the natural environment with games, drawing some fun facts too.

Available in Richmond Barracks and also to download online at richmondbarracks.ie/visit/garden, this self guided worksheet about biodiversity and honey bees, was created by children who took part in a 4-day biodiversity workshop led by Richmond Barracks eco-gardener in residence Polly Rowley-Sams.

Inchicore Library at Richmond Barracks Since August 2020 Richmond Barracks has been home to the Inchicore Library, operated by Dublin City Libraries. The library offers a range of adult fiction and non-fiction material, a selection of young adult material and a junior library. A range of books on Dublin are also available in the library’s Dublin Collection. Items can be reserved online and collected at Inchicore Library. Printing and photocopying facilities are also available.

Join in!

Each month Inchicore Library runs a number of groups that are open for anyone to join.

The Toddler Group meets Wednesday mornings from 10 am - 11 am.

Due to its popularity booking is recommended at inchicorelibrary@dublincity.ie.

The Knitting Club meets on Thursdays from 3 pm - 4.30 pm and both experienced knitters and beginners are welcome to join in. It is a drop in event, no booking needed.

The Movie and Book Club meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2.15 pm to discuss a book and its film adaptation.

Library Opening Times In January 2024 Inchicore Library will have extended self-service opening hours in place. This means the library will be accessible to the public from Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm each week.

Library staff will be in the library from 10 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm from Monday to Thursday every week and on alternative Fridays and Saturdays. If you have any questions about this please enquire with library staff or email inchicorelibrary@dublincity.ie.

Every Friday enjoy delicious food at Richmond Barracks, Inchicore.

Visit the FoodCloud Kitchen café from 10 am to 3 pm.

FoodCloud Kitchen showcases how surplus food can be spectacular. They serve hot drinks, tasty snacks and delicious lunch options. Menus are created using seasonal ingredients sourced from FoodCloud’s suppliers and change weekly.

Your Friday meal will greatly benefit vulnerable communities. All profits generated are reinvested into FoodCloud’s core activities, redistributing surplus food to over 600 community and voluntary organisations nationwide.

Cultural Spaces Hire at Richmond Barracks Richmond Barracks is a beautiful building with a rich historical background. Its many spaces and distinctive design make it a versatile and interesting venue for your event.

Our building has six spaces available for hire, which can be taken separately or combined for a bigger event: • A large hall space called The Gymnasium • Two sizeable spaces for large meetings or workshops • A café / kitchen space for meetings • A large garden space • A tent in the garden space suitable for performances Our building and spaces are frequently used for a wide array of events - launches, conferences, training days, meetings, productions and exhibitions.
