On October 15th, DTLR Radio, Motown Records, and Quality Control Music partnered up to host a jam-packed album signing event with superstar artist Lil Baby! Celebrating the release of his brand-new album It’s Only Me, we had hundreds of fans anxiously waiting outside of our Camp Creek location in ATL to meet their favorite artist. Rapping his music bar for bar and getting hyped about what they’re going to say to him, the excited fans couldn’t wait to get started. Hosted by DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice, Baby hung out for hours as he took pictures with his fans, signed copies of his new album, and effectively shut down the A for another memorable in-store event.
Breast Cancer Support Services (BCSS) of Berks County was the beneficiary of the Breast Cancer Awareness Color Run fundraiser on October 2nd in downtown Reading, PA. The event, which raised $10,000 for the group, was organized by Paul Redford Jr., a Manager at DTLR with an immense passion for his community.
The day’s activities to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month began with the seventh annual Pink Passion for Fashion Show, followed by the Color Run, hosted by Nemesis Fitness.
Event sponsors included Trulieve, The Michael Palm Foundation, Brentwood Industries, DTLR Inc., and Melissa Jamula. Redford donated the difference between the sponsorships and donations to ensure that the proceeds from the event totaled $10,000 for BCSS.
We held the 2022 Managers’ Meeting at the Live! Casino & Hotel in Baltimore, MD. What an amazing event! We did a complete takeover of the casino and hotel and there could not have been a better presentation of DTLR and our Brand Partners.
The event’s theme was “HOMECOMING”, as we celebrated with the same exceptional spirit as our annual Cultural HBCU Homecomings.
As the employees entered the lavish PreFunction area, they were greeted by the Morgan State University Marching Band, a gifting suite filled with Jordan bookbags containing items provided by the vendors, snacks, gift cards, and a leatherback notebook with a stylus pen. And for the first time ever, each manager had their own hotel room.
The purpose of this meeting was to get our store managers pumped up for the new products coming for the holiday selling season and to extend a “BIG THANK-YOU” for all their extraordinary efforts over the previous twelve months.
There is no doubt that everyone came away with a deeper respect for how we do our business, represent the culture, and respect that we show to our employees. Thanks to our vendor partners, we were able to brand every breakfast and lunch hosted by DTLR Radio. This gave us the opportunity to engage with our managers and leadership teams.
This year’s HOMECOMING GALA kicked off with a confetti bang! For the first time ever, we offered our audience a unique experience to see their favorite headliner Moneybagg Yo. The performance took place on THE HALL’s built-in performance stage, with state-of-the-art sound and light equipment. The performance was amazing.
As always, our goal is to continue the excitement and retain retention value with our Brand Partners and Store Managers.
We announced the launch of the brand-new Community Storefront at the Baltimore City Public Schools Headquarters’ Re-Engagement Center. The Community Storefront will assist students and their families as they start the process of re-enrolling in schools, with any shoes or apparel they might need. To celebrate the new Community Storefront, we used our donation of 500 pairs of new sneakers from our brand partner Nike to open the space up fully stocked. DTLR will continue to stock the inventory at the Community Storefront year-round with shoes and apparel for Baltimore City students in need.
The Re-Engagement Center helps young people get back on the path to graduation. Students leave school for different reasons and have different goals, so the Center works to create personalized student plans for success. They strive to match returning students with the right school program and tailored support. With assistance from a local nonprofit, The Movement Team, the Center also helps families with various needs like rental and housing assistance, food insecurity, and essential household items – all equally important factors to a child’s education.
“We are grateful for the partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools and The Movement Team to support students and families in the community,” said Tremayne Lipscomb Sr., DTLR Community Outreach Director. “The resources from this type of partnership provide hope and inspiration for students and their families.”
The DTLR Inaugural NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) Invitational was held Sunday, October 9th at Southern Regional Technology Recreational Complex in Oxon Hill, MD. As studentathletes are now able to monetize their personal brands while in college, there is a major need for marketing, branding, and selling guidance. Many athletes and their families want to take advantage of this opportunity but don’t know where to start or how to package their talent.
The DTLR NIL invitational is a celebration of athletes, coaches, and teams who have shown the highest examples of strong brand power while providing a series of workshops giving information and tools to attendees. Angie Ange along with other industry professionals spent the day educating student-athletes on the business of sports.
Nike and DTLR are celebrating 40 years of AF1 in Baltimore by paying homage to the cultural heritage of the shoe and the icons who wore it.
The AF1 sneaker speaks to the entire genre of our culture and together we are introducing the AF1 to the new street style enthusiasts of today. JOINED Forces by joining the right voices. Together we are telling the generational story of the AF1 and why it’s still the heat that joins forces.
“It’s one of the shoes where you might not know the heritage, but you know its heat on your feet when you wear the AF1.” ---- RASHAD FLOYD, HEART & HUSTLE PRODUCTIONSMAYOR BRANDON M. SCOTT TYLER “HYPE” JACKSON
Not only is October about bringing awareness to Breast Cancer, but it is also Black Running Month. Baltimore-based running organization B.R.O –Black Running Organization -- serves to organize, educate, and condition the Black community through running as a practical demonstration of unity.
Their slogan is LETSGROW, which simply means collective development. With the support of DTLR, BRO went to Atlanta to participate in the only Black-owned and operated 5K! The 2022 DTLR HBCU Culture Tour is officially in the history books and what another incredible run we had! This homecoming season, DTLR and our amazing brand and label partners took over some of the top HBCUs including Norfolk State University, Howard University, and North Carolina Central University. Homecoming season is always one to remember and, per usual, DTLR left its mark this season.
Alongside our amazing brand partners including Nike, Jordan, Puma, and Levi’s, the students showed up in packs and made sure to celebrate the most exciting time of the school year with us. During each stop, we had a slew of major artists take over the stage. This includes star singer and dancer King Combs, the beautiful Kali, viral star Sleazyworld, and a ton of others including Girll Codee, Lay Bankz, Philly Goats, Tyahna Maray, Jourdin Pauline, Rico Da Don, and a bunch more. We also brought back our Barz on the Yard series where we chose emerging artists in each region to perform at the show and win a slew of other prizes, courtesy of Fadam Got Da Juice.
Another major hit during this year’s HBCU Culture Tour was our Fresh Fit station where, upon RSVPing in advance, hundreds of students at each school were able to get some slick new gear courtesy of our various partners.
At NSU, Nike and Jordan held the kids down with some fresh new slides. At Howard, Levi’s crew joined us and provided customized jackets for the students – it’s safe to say that was the highlight of the day! During our final stop at NCCU, Levi’s and Puma once again joined us and gave out some awesome giveaways to the student body. On top of that, we had a 360-photo booth, our friends at the Army hosting activations, DTLR Radio broadcasting at each show, and so much more.
With DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice, Kyle On The Mic, and CDK On The Mic handling hosting duties, the main stage was jumping from start to finish at each show. When talking with the students, it’s clear our Homecoming takeover was appreciated and well-needed this year.
As we know, most of our stores are in communities that are deemed food deserts. We have a mission to educate our communities on the importance of healthy eating, as well as providing them with those healthy options when we can.
Our Dare To Live Right initiative encourages our communities to be more health-conscious. To thrive is to prosper and flourish; and we want all our community members to truly do just that – starting by helping them develop and maintain healthy eating habits, and providing resources to give some relief to residents.
We will continue to donate and partner with hyperlocal nonprofits to provide fresh produce and nonperishables in our communities.
