EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Q: Q: Q:

A: A: A:

What has led to your motivation and consistency at DTLR for over two decades, and how has your role evolved since you first joined the company?

I have stayed motivated by being a part of a well-run organization with motivated leaders that keep me going. With seeing how warehouse automation has evolved over the last 2 decades and knowing where we can still get to and hopefully being part of that. When I started, we had maybe 50 stores and had to manually tag pack and ship everything to now having 245 stores and overseeing all warehouse operations.

Throughout your time at DTLR, what accomplishments or contributions are you most proud of, both in terms of your personal growth and your impact on the company?

Being an instrumental part of the growth of the DTLR warehouse’s speed to market.

With such extensive experience, what advice would you give to newer employees looking to thrive and make a lasting impact within the DTLR organization?

The easiest thing to do is just show up on time and be ready to work!

GIVEBACK BACK TO SCHOOL

DTLR Community partnered with Champion Boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis to launch First Annual Back to School Backpack and supply giveaway. The professional boxer and his newly founded GTD Cares Foundation created a space in west Baltimore to support children in need ahead of the first day of school.

The giveaway took place at the Robert C. Marshall Rec Center, in the neighborhood where he grew up. Along with the 500 book bags and school supplies, we were able to provide new underclothes for the youth. We know it’s not a true DTLR Community partnership unless we bring the energy. Our store volunteers were ready to receive the youth and their parents; helping to distribute the food, prizes, and host the activities. We look forward to supporting Tank’s GTD Cares Foundation and their mission to empower the youth of Baltimore and cities alike.

This month, our DTLR Community partnered with Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) for the third consecutive year to facilitate educational growth this upcoming school year. We donated hundreds of school uniforms to 130 incoming freshman students at JRLA.

In addition to the uniforms, we also provided students with volunteer opportunities and scholarships. Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is an open-enrollment, tuition-free public charter school in northwest Detroit. JRLA provides a leadership-focused education to more than 400 ninth through twelfth-grade students. It was important for us to be able to aide the incoming freshmen with the tools they need to be successful.

This month, we hosted the 40th Annual National Night Out Celebration at a local Elementary School near one of our store locations. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. We always have a great time with tons of free food, games, and family resources to promote positive community relationships. A great community-building initiative that promotes community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. We were able to provide voter registration, job opportunities, and even some special visits from the Baltimore Ravens and The Mayor.

DARE TO EDUCATE

BACK TO SCHOOL 2023

Since the end of July, the DTLR outreach team has been focused on the education pillar of our mission by joining with our community partners to help alleviate some of the stress placed on parents for back to school.

In Baltimore, we distributed uniforms, school supplies, and fresh produce to our communities alongside our partners at Sandtowne Outreach Center and Tunnel Vision.

In Florida, Dallas, Chicago, Cleveland, and Pennsylvania, we opened our stores to give free haircuts to students and school supplies to get them ready for the upcoming school year.

With the help of our stores and community partners, we were able to prepare over 1,500 students for the 2023 school year.

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to our store managers and staff for their continued support in our ongoing outreach efforts!

CHECK PRESENTATION

In partnership with New Balance, we presented the donation to nonprofit B-360, which uses dirt bike culture to educate youth and build a safer community, at the Frank C. Bocek Park

B-360, is a local organization that aims to utilize dirt bike culture to end the cycle of poverty, disrupt the prison pipeline, and build safer communities. The proceeds for the donation came from sales of New Balance’s DTLR-exclusive shoe, “GLOW,” which the nonprofit will use to help further their mission.

DTLR and B-360 aim to help end the cycle of poverty by educating individuals on dirt bike culture, increasing public safety through advocacy, and building a safe community. B-360’s work shifts street riders out of traffic into programming, safe spaces, and opportunities around their love of dirt bikes and skills. They work with stakeholders, including students, riders, communities, policy makers/ government officials, and law enforcement to create equitable solutions and voices that work for all. Their mission is in line with our mission and motto – Better Together and Dare To Live Right!

The 2023/2024 school year is officially underway, which means the return of our annual DTLR HBCU Tour. Alongside our partners at Jordan, McDonald’s and the U.S. Army, we traveled to four different HBCUs this month and put on an energetic, celebratory event to kickstart the year ahead. Our tour ran through Howard University, Morgan State University, Delaware State University and Bowie State University.

In addition to the epic concert we put together at each school, there was a lot more going on during the tour. At each school we had a ton of DTLR giveaways including towels, t-shirts, and more. We allowed our entrepreneurial HBCU students to take over our Vendor Row where they showcased their various businesses, products and services. It was beautiful to see the future leaders of our country getting a head start.

We had a unique and highly-decked out Jordan photobooth station that was a hit at each stop; we had the McDonald’s lounge – an area where the students could take a breather in between the fun. We had several food trucks at each location as well.

As the doors opened at each school, the hundreds and hundreds of excited students poured in anxiously awaiting to see our many performers. Headlining our tour was NY’s own Lola Brooke, who’s energy was unmatched. We also had Rob49, Luh Tyler, BreezyLyn, Money Jake, RunItUp Jordan, Anaya Perry, Anna Mvze, Kenya Vaun and many others. Our hosts throughout the tour were DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice, Kyle On The Mic and CDK On The Mic. We also had our very own King Flexxa hold down his alma mater at Morgan State, with our guy DJ Quicksilva joining us at Morgan and Bowie as well.

A special moment occurred during our stop at Delaware State University, where we proudly announced our partnership with the U.S. Army Partnership for Your Success (PaYS) program. PaYS provides an opportunity for soldiers to serve their country while preparing for their future by partnering with a crosssection of corporations, companies, and public sector agencies and DTLR is thankful to now be involved in such a meaningful program.

Starting each show was our Greek Stroll, which, by far, was a memorable moment at every school. The orgs showed up and showed out as they set the tone for the event ahead. We then gave opportunities to different emerging artists through our On The Mic Spotlight and Bars On The Yard contests hosted by Kyle on the Mic and Fadam Got da Juice respectively. We definitely saw some future stars-in-the-making.
