DTLR Community hosted the first Homecoming Weekend for LSU Basketball Champion, Freshman of the Year and Savannah native Flau’jae Johnson. We were able to host a series of homecoming and back to school initiatives, beginning with a welcome home champion parade that started at the Savannah Civic Center to 38th Street Park. Her fans came out in droves to welcome Flau’Jae and help kick off the weekend events.

On Saturday we hosted an in-store meet at our Garden Groove location. 400 fans waited anxiously for her arrival and received her with so much love. Flau’Jae made sure she took pictures with and signed autographs each and every one, while her newly released album played in the store.

We closed the weekend with a huge Back to School festival, where partnered with the Puma Brand to give away 500 pairs of shoes along with our donation of 500 bookbags and school uniform shirts. In partnership with the city of Savannah, and other sponsors the homecoming weekend closed with a vibrant celebration, including a 3v3 basketball tournament, an outdoor obstacle course, skate park, bounce houses, face painting and more.

We look forward to partnering with and watching Flau’jae grow into the biggest superstar, with the biggest heart for giving back to all the communities she’s a part of.

The latest collaborative release is a sequel to one of our favorite projects from last year – the DTLR-exclusive New Balance 990v4 “Wild Style 2.0.”

The upper is dressed primarily in lush black suede, which appears on the mudguards, quarter panels, eyestays, and heel panels. “Shadow Grey” mesh underlays run throughout, providing breathability for those warm days on the playground. The two-toned look is broken up by light “Sky Blue,” “Electric Red,” and “Chloro Green” leather panels that arrive on the forefoot, midfoot, and heel sections. “Pineapple”–colored “N” overlays are displayed on the lateral and medial sides, and “990” is printed on the lateral heels in “Sky Blue.”

Down below, ENCAP foam midsole units are done in a split “Sky Blue,” “Cosmic Grape,” and white color scheme. Semi-translucent TPU heel clips offer structural support, while “Hot Marigold”–colored rubber outsoles provide traction.

FOOTBALL CAMP WITH CHASE YOUNG

Our Community Team teamed up with New Balance and Klutch Athletics to host a youth football clinic with the Washington Commanders’ very own Chase Young. We hosted 50 grade school players from local football teams and organizations to participate in the event, where Chase Young provided encouragement, demonstrations, and pointers from his professional experience. The event was held at the Ferebee Hope Recreation Centers state-of-the-art sports facility.

The youth ended its drills with some one-on-one competitions and a series of 7 on 7 flag football games. Klutch Athletics by New Balance gifted their new collection where the youth were able to try out the new line during the clinic, ending the event with a meet and greet and Autograph session with Chase.

New Balance recently announced their coauthorship with Klutch Athletics, a Black-owned sportswear brand created by Rich Paul. The brand will support and serve all athletes throughout their athletic journey, including youth, collegiate and professional sports. The launch collection for Klutch Athletics will deliver high-quality training apparel meant to uplift and empower all athletes, regardless of gender or sport. DTLR’s Community and Sports departments look forward to future collaborations with the new brand.

MORGAN’S MORGAN’S GOT GOT TALENT TALENT

It’s almost that time of year where school’s starting back up, the weather breaks and everyone’s suddenly back to the grind. Even before that time officially hits, that energy can already be felt. Especially at this year’s Morgan’s Got Talent showcase taking place once again at Morgan State University. Students had the chance to sign up and perform their various talents. Powered by DTLR and Nike, Morgan alumni and DTLR Radio’s own King Flexxa hosted this year’s show. You already know it’s a party when The Massive Host is involved.

MEET & GREET

On Saturday, July 17th we teamed up with Angel Reese, LSU basketball champion and ESPY award winner, for an instore meet and greet. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Angel in person and also purchase T-shirts featuring Bayou Barbie. All sales from the T-shirts went toward Angel Reese’s foundation to support women’s basketball at her local alma mater, St. Francis High School in Baltimore. DTLR also matched the donation of all sales from the T-shirts to the foundation. Needless to say, everyone was excited to welcome her home and celebrate her success.

On Monday, July 19th we also partnered with Angel Reese for a basketball camp at St. Frances Academy, her alma mater. WNBA player and fellow Baltimore native, Angel McCoughtry also joined the event to co-teach at the clinic. Angel Reese and Angel McCoughtry both provided tips and pointers from their personal experience.

DTLR presented a check to the Angel Reese Foundation. Both athletes were gifted custom collectibles crafted by the artist, Cierra Lynn.

The DTLR squad was in the building for the annual festival that always features an amazing lineup mixed with amazing energy. This year, the 2-day festival returned to the RFK Stadium grounds where fans were anxious to see the likes of Chloe Bailey, Ice Spice, and many others.

In addition to broadcasting live on DTLR Radio, interviewing the artists, etc., we also set up a pop-up shop where we sold our exclusive (and highly anticipated) NB9060 GLOWS that had the entire festival rushing to check ‘em out and cop a pair. In between performances, our area was packed. Expectations were met!

Hoka footwear is now available in select DTLR stores and we’re hyped about it! To close out July, we hosted a “Hooked On Hoka” weekend where at select stores we set up a Hoka try-on station where customers could try on pairs of Hoka and win free prizes. DTLR Radio’s own Kyle On The Mic handled the hosting duties in Maryland alongside DJ’s Twisted and Scottie B. The customers were excited to try on the (extremely) comfy new kicks and leave with some fresh gear and cool giveaways.
