Family Ties

The “Family Ties” experience -- inspired by the release of the Air Jordan XI “ Varsity Red” -- gave selected families the opportunity to receive a pair of the popular shoe and participate in a holiday-themed photo shoot.

On Friday, Dec. 9, DTLR partnered with Jordan Brand to celebrate the Air Jordan XI ‘Varsity Red’ holiday release through the lens of families. We joined together to spread a little sneakerhead cheer to select DTLR Trendsetters.

Eleven Chicago area families were selected to participate in a unique holiday experience, inspired by the Air Jordan Retro 11 “Varsity Red.” The selected families not only received

a pair of the shoes for each family member, but also participated in a professional holiday-themed family photo shoot with Grizel Preciado -- an official photographer from the Jordan Brand Women’s Collective. Each family was able to take home a print of their favorite shot in a custom holiday frame. The experience was held at the DTLR store on 87th and Dan Ryan in the DTLR Radio Studio and Greenroom, which was transformed for the day into a photo studio. The families were selected via in-store reference and an online contest that was held for DTLR Trendsetters, our loyalty program.

In addition, we continued to make the release available to our true consumers

in the communities we serve, by implementing our annual holiday toy drive. Leading up to launch weekend, customers were invited to bring a toy to the store in exchange for their reservation ticket to make a hassle-free purchase during this festive season.

On release day, several consumers lined up to pick up their reserved pair.

T.I. SHOPPING SPREE AND

The season of giving back is in full effect! For the third year in a row, DTLR teamed up with platinumselling recording artist T.I. to host a Christmas shopping spree extravaganza for the young men at the Next Level Boys Academy! The 2022 event, which took place at our DTLR Camp Creek location in the ATL, was yet another meaningful and unforgettable experience. Hosted by DTLR Radio’s own Ferrari Simmons, the Grammy-winning star said it’s these types of moments and opportunities that mean more to him than anything else. With the city of Atlanta behind him, T.I.’s mark is being left in real-time.

DTLR Radio once again partnered up with Atlantic Records to host a series of meet-and-greet events. This time around, we teamed up with one of the label’s star acts, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, who just dropped his brand-new album, “Me Vs. Myself.” From Dec. 9-12, we hosted back-to-back in-store events at the following DTLR locations: Rhode Island Plaza (D.C.), Liberty City (Miami), 52nd + Market (Philly), and Dixwell Avenue (Hamden, CT). The events were hosted by DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice, DJ RL, and CDK On The Mic.

SILENT SCHOOL PARTIES

DTLR and Urban Fetes are continuing our commitment to Chicago Public Schools and students in the city’s South and West Sides through our “Silent Party School Invasion.”

This campaign promotes perfect attendance and good grades for students. In December, DTLR invaded Langford Academy, Courtney Elementary, Darwin, Claremont, and Fulton Prep. Each party featured two DJs, a 360 photo booth, food, a dance contest, and DTLR gift card giveaways. Each month for the remainder of the school year, DTLR and Urban Fetes will host at least four Silent Parties at selected Chicago Public Schools.

DTLR stores across the nation participated in a holiday-giving campaign to bring joy and cheer to local children in need this season. The drive was created to maximize the charitable giving of our customers during the holiday season across all DTLR stores nationwide. We informed the customers that their donation will benefit the youth of their local community, making our annual effort a truly Better Together. Through the hard work of our store staff, we were able to collect 30,000 toys! Stores then identified hundreds of local organizations that could help distribute toys to the local community, bringing much-needed smiles to the faces of thousands of children this holiday season. We were proud to have donated to more than 150 local nonprofits, schools, and community centers.

We were able to add toys to any resources for other foundations’ events and drives, like Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers and National Recording Artist French Montana.Tyrese collected toys to benefit residents of the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and French brought out some of his celebrity friends to distribute Toys in the Miami Gardens Neighborhood.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who donated toys during our annual drive this year, which allows us to continue our mission to give back to the communities in which our stores reside,” said Tremayne Lipscomb Sr., Director of Community Outreach at DTLR. “Through partnerships with local nonprofits and organizations, these generous donations will help bring smiles to thousands of children and families in need this holiday season.”

YOUNG DYLAN

Whether he’s on the big screen or on your airwaves, chances are you’ve heard of Young Dylan. The young star-in-the-making is an actor, music artist, and a kid with a ton of contagious energy. He recently came through the DTLR Radio headquarters for a new interview with Tiara LaNiece on “Pretty Girl Radio.” He talked about his success as a young actor, working with Tyler Perry, his focus on his music career, what motivates him, and so much more. At the end of the interview, Dylan kicked a few bars and freestyled live. Not only did he kill it, but this was the first-ever live freestyle on Tiara’s “Pretty Girl Radio!”

ALBUM SIGNING

Coming off the release of his new (and now number 1!) album, “Superheroes & Villains,” Grammy-nominated producer/artist Metro Boomin is the current talk of the town. On the day his album was officially released (Dec. 2), DTLR Radio hosted Metro and his crew at our DTLR Camp Creek location for his official album signing and meet and greet for his fans! The line was forming down the shopping center hours before Metro arrived, as the energetic fans couldn’t wait much longer. Once the platinum-selling producer/artist officially pulled up, the celebration commenced. Fans from all walks of life were there to meet Metro, and some were even aspiring artists themselves. One fan told us this entire event was not only a ton of fun but a direct inspiration for him and his music career. That’s what it’s all about!

SPRING ‘23 PHOTOSHOOT

In preparation for what will be an exciting and busy 2023, the DTLR Spring Photo Shoot took place in downtown Baltimore at the top of the month on Dec. 1. Surrounded by the city’s culture and street-inspired vibe, our models showcased clothing for the upcoming spring season. Clothing and apparel from NIKE, PUMA, NEW BALANCE, SERGIO TACCHINI, and more lit up the streets for this highly anticipated new shoot.

Traffic came to a halt as “street fans” admired the looks and the aesthetic of the shoot. Our photographer for this shoot, Khalil Clash, captured the detail and style of each model and fashion item, which will come to life in ‘23. The photos and imagery from the Spring Photo Shoot will certainly tell the story from his lens when placed in our stores.

FASHION CHALLENGE

On Dec. 3 and 4, DTLR partnered up with our friends at McDonald’s and Coca-Cola to host a variety of fashion challenges at three of our DTLR locations in Washington, D.C., Greater Baltimore, and the Eastern Shore. With the release of McDonald’s new Frozen Coca-Cola beverages, we chose about 20 kids, who live in at-risk areas, to participate in our challenge: take a $350 DTLR gift card and purchase any clothing they wanted in the store. The goal was for the clothing they selected to be inspired by the colors of McDonald’s new frozen beverages (blue, red, and brown).

These challenges took place at our Rhode Island Avenue location in D.C., our brand-new store at Northwood Commons in Baltimore, and our Salisbury, Md., store location at The Centre. Each group of participants absolutely crushed their designs! The pride of these future fashion designers was truly unmatched. Check out some recap videos and photos. Thanks again to McDonald’s and Coca-Cola for this meaningful partnership.

FINESSE 2 TYMES

ALBUM SIGNING

Atlantic Records’ own Finesse 2 Tymes took the industry by storm in 2022. Closing his successful year off with a bang, the Memphis rapper released his new album, “90 Days,” on Dec. 3 and was quickly met with a great response. A few days later, DTLR Radio and Atlantic kicked off our album signing events hosted at various DTLR locations in Raleigh, N.C., Richmond, Va., Baltimore, Md., and Columbus, Ohio.

Despite being “new to the scene,” Finesse’s fans were plentiful as we had guests lining up early and often for each event. Each stop provided something unique and something memorable as Finesse got to connect on a personal level with some of his biggest supporters. We even got the southern hitmaker hip to the Baltimore dance culture, as local dancers Bunkey Jr. and TSU Terry taught the southern rap star some moves during the meet and greet at our new Northwood Commons location.

WANMOR

Made up of four young and exuberantly talented young teenagers, WanMor came through the DTLR Radio headquarters this month for an impromptu interview with Tiara LaNiece. There was a lot to catch up on, most notably their new hit single, “Every Pretty Girl in the City,” as well as their new label partnership with 300 Entertainment and Mary J. Blige. Big Boy, Chulo, Tyvas, and Rocco all bring something

fresh and unique to the mic, which makes their group connection seamless. For those who don’t know, the young singers are the sons of Boyz II Men’s Wanya Morris, however, they’re already quickly making a name for themselves.
