New Balance is on the rise and there’s no slowing down in sight. This month, we partnered up with our good friends at NB to create a moment celebrating one of NB’s most iconic court shoes, the NB480s.
Gathering up a handful of DMV’s finest artists and influencers, we hosted a private dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Maryland with a goal to celebrate the shoe in a unique way. We called upon the iconic sneaker designer Sneaker Fan Dan to customize a pair of NB480s for each of our invitees.
Each shoe was different from the next, truly representing each artists’ personality and aura. Our guests included the likes of Big G, DJ Quicksilva, Andrew “Buggs” Combs, Bunkey Jr., TSU Terry, Jaycee, 3ohBlack, Pinky The Rapper, Money Jake and more. The joyous evening was filled with fresh kicks, great food, and most importantly a sense of “togetherness”.
In partnership with David Kemp the CEO & Founder of Family, Fun, Fitness nonprofit organization DTLR outreach was on hand to sponsor their Annual Easter Holiday Event.
This organization works with the community to create opportunities for the youth and families and to also develop an understanding of being healthy in mind and body. They have a big brother big sister mentorship program that we support with resources and incentives.
This event was a huge success; thanks to the vendors that donated their time; giving boys free haircuts, braids for the girls, arts & crafts, face painting for the younger children, and easter baskets for all!
Our first post-covid community event at our State Street location in East St. Louis was well attended and full of joy for our youth! We were able to give 35 young men fresh haircuts. Our community received free food for the kids, easter baskets, and participated in a small easter egg hunt.
The mayor of East St. Louis even stopped by to speak to his residents and give us kudos. We look forward to getting fully active this year, with the assistance of our amazing staff and community stakeholders of the city of East St. Louis.
300 Ent.’s own BreezyLyn has been on a roll as of late. The talented starin-the-making recently came by the DTLR HQ for a variety of things.
We had the songbird first stop at our photo studio where she did a full blown photoshoot in some fresh new Nike gear. Shot by DTLR’s own John Johnson III, Breezy showed her skillset is beyond just the mic. That said, what she does on the mic is beyond impressive. She swung past the DTLR Production studio and joined our guy DJ Quicksilva for his new freestyle series “Spit That Fire”. Coming from NY, Breezy ripped a part a classic 50 Cent instrumental and did it justice.
Afterwards, she made her way over to the DTLR Radio studio and sat down with Fadam Got Da Juice for a full blown interview. Stay up to date on Breezy as she’s truly just getting started!
DTLR partnered with Montebello School in Baltimore to kick off Earth Day 2023.
The school gathered the 7th graders, as DTLR staff awaited them outside of the school building with soil, planters, seeds, watering cans, shovels, and of course lunch!
Students were tasked with two assignments for the day, first being cleaning up the westside of the Montebello reservoir, as its’s fenced in sidewalks share space with the school. They grabbed their trash bags and pickup sticks and cleared the area of debris.
The second task was starting their school garden. Students learned about simple small-space gardening and were given the opportunity to plant their own veggies to nurture to growth. Students could choose from cucumber, string beans, wax beans, tomatoes, and marigolds and learned how to properly plant and care for each seed to maturity.
Grow Captains were assigned to track each student’s plant growth over the next 6 weeks and to make sure plants are properly being cared for during germination.
The students at Montebello School were excited to spend the day playing in the dirt and just being kids, spending a moment away from the noise just feet away on the business Harford Rd. intersection. With picnic blankets laid out, trays of pretzel bun deli sandwiches, and some studentmade specialty desserts, it’s safe to say a time was had!
Benny The Butcher is looking to make 2023 a memorable one.
As he kicked off his tour in Baltimore, Benny swung past the DTLR Radio studios for an exciting new interview with Fadam Got Da Juice. During the interview, Benny announced the release date for his new album Everybody Can’t Go for the first time ever.
In addition to this new album, Benny spoke on his career comeup, being from Buffalo, his work with Drake, how he’s changed as an artist, the BSF team and who’s on the come-up, and much more. In the end, our friends at New Balance gifted Benny a pair of the all-new 990V6s — being in the Baltimore/DMV area, it was only right!
RVA Fashion Week was a huge success for Girls For A Change, and this is a partnership we love to support. With over 200 people in attendance at Show Up, TJ, and Secure the Bag Fashion Show and 500 students at Meadowbrook High School Students engaged in the Fashion Symposium, these fantastic events were a success.
The Meadowbrook High School Girl Action Team put on a Fashion Symposium that included a panel of Richmond-based Fashion designers, followed by workshops from creative professionals. DTLR Community and Merchandising teams served as panelists, and workshop facilitators during this exploration of Fashion!
We love the work that GFAC does in their communities and beyond. This organization will always get our, time, resources, and product to ensure their events are a success. Dare To Live Right will always help to create meaningful experiences for our communities.
We started our partnership with the founders of the Politicking app two years ago, with the plan to educate our communities through promotion of their one-of-akind app, and collaborative events in various markets. In anticipation of our next collaboration, we sat down with the founders to discuss culture and politics. We are looking forward to hosting the biggest Voting Awareness event of the YEAR and certainly the biggest event of Congressional Black Caucus season, this coming September. As Politicking prepares to host its first annual conference “The Road to 2024” on the illustrious Howard University campus, DTLR Community Outreach will be by their side.
As African Americans it is particularly important that we are acutely aware of the political ramifications surrounding the 2024 elections and that we begin the preparation for those elections even today.
To do so, Politicking has decided to help demystify the political conversation and cut through the partisan noise through this conference, which will provide a safe space for discussion amongst our community and a breeding ground for innovation within the political sector.

culture and politics is not even a choice; as much as it is second nature.
JORDAN WILSON - CO-FOUNDER
Albee Al, a buzzing and emerging artist from Jersey, recently stopped past the DTLR Radio headquarters for the first time. Upon his arrival, the hard-nosed lyricist sat down for a new interview with DTLR Radio’s own Fadam Got Da Juice.
During their thoughtful conversation, Albee spoke on his new music, his plans for 2023, what he’s looking to do long term with his career, Jersey’s hip-hop history and where he fits in, and much more.
Our Community Outreach department partnered with Morgan State University and Baltimore City Schools to host our annual Summit for College Bound Seniors. The day was full of resources and information for our young scholars that are starting their college journey.
Panel discussions and breakout sessions on understanding financial aid, navigating a first year, and testimonials from current college students were well attended. Over 150 High School seniors left the summit celebrated and well informed! We wish them well and pledge them all to Dare To Live Right!
DTLR & Urban Fetes rolled into the month full steam continuing our partnership with Chicago Public Schools and our Silent Party Takeover.
This month took us to BOGAN High School, Horace Mann Prep, Mireles
Elementary & Robert Black Magnet School throwing a surprise silent party for students with perfect attendance and excellent grades. DTLR gift cards and other prizes were raffled off to students at each stop while the DJ’s provided the vibes and soundtrack.
For the first time since 2019, DTLR is bringing back our legendary Fashion Show!
This year’s theme – eXceL – pays homage to the fact it’s DTLR’s 40th (XL) year anniversary, but also highlights the fact that we’re on to bigger and better things.
To get us ready for the big show, we hosted a Model Call at our Cumberland Mall location in ATL and the turnout was incredible.
Over a hundred models strutted through the store, showing off their runway skills for the DTLR Fashion Show Committee. From this model call alone, we’re in for a huge treat. The show takes place on June 11th at the Georgia Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta. We have a ton of exciting announcements on the way, so stay tuned for that!

BRO TIMES is a series that navigates the experience of Black men through the journey of identifying and understanding mental health. It gives attendees the comfort of being open to healing and growth through self-care and mental wellness.
Attendees received counsel and advice from Dr. Raven Curling and licensed therapist Corderius Cowans. We will continue to assemble as a simulated group with resources from some amazing black therapists within the Chicago area specializing in black males and trauma.
