crescendo/decrescendo without any mention of the final dynamic level ––> pochissimo crescendo/decrescendo [these signs are thus to be understood as musical indications, not primarily as instructions regarding the dynamics]

c. l. batt.
col legno battuto:
mit der Bogenstange auf die Saite(n) schlagen / hit the string(s) with the stick of the bow
ord.

Flageolett / harmonic
Pizzicato der linken Hand / pizzicato with the left hand
"pizzicato iridescente" ("in Regenbogenfarben schillerndes Pizzicato"): Die Spannschraube des Bogens teilt die Saite (beim Steg); dann Pizzicato mit der linken Hand. Die Tonhöhe wird durch die Bogenspannschraube (und nicht durch die linke Hand) bestimmt und klingt wie notiert. Anschliessendes Glissando. / 'pizzicato iridescente' ('iridescent pizzicato'): The screw of the bow is used to divide the string (near the bridge); then play pizzicato with the left hand. The pitch is determined by the screw of the bow (not by the left hand) and sounds as notated. Then glissando.
"pizzicato sibilante" (zischendes Pizzicato): Die Spitze der Bogenstange ohne Druck auf die entsprechende Saite legen; Pizzicato mit der linken Hand; die vibrierende Saite berührt die Bogenstange und lässt ein Zischen entstehen. / 'pizzicato sibilante' ('hissing' pizzicato): place the point of the bow stick on the string in question, without applying any pressure; play pizzicato with the left hand; the vibrating string touches the stick of the bow and creates a 'hissing' sound.
natürliches Flageolett / natural harmonic
"Sternschnuppen": Der anfängliche Flageoletgriff bleibt während des ganzen Glissandos unverändert; es resultieren mehrere aufeinanderfolgende Glissandi. / 'Falling stars': The harmonic fingering at the beginning is kept the same, unchanged, throughout the glissando. The result is a number of different glissandi, one after the other (the 'seagull effect').
"Doppel-Sternschnuppen": Dasselbe auf zwei Saiten / 'Double falling stars': The same as above, but on two strings
zu viel Bogendruck; ratterndes Geräusch praktisch ohne Ton / too much bow pressure; a rattling sound almost without a discernible note
mit Fingerknöchel auf Zargen schlagen oder klopfen / hit or knock the knuckles on the rib of the instrument
mit Fingerknöchel auf Korpus schlagen oder klopfen / hit or knock the knuckles on the body of the instrument
mit flacher Hand aufs Griffbrett schlagen / hit the fingerboard with the flat of the hand
