Rare premium grade 1930 Penny!

A spectacularly rare opportunity, we are delighted to present the iconic 1930 Penny in premium grade about Very Fine!

Although it was once thought that no pennies were struck in 1930, it is accepted that perhaps 3,000 were produced in die testing. With these coins released into circulation with a later penny issue, the 1930 Penny is usually well-worn, with most graded Fine or lower.

Likely to be in the top 10% of the 1,500 known examples, the chance to own a premium grade 1930 Penny must not be missed.

Series

The rarest Australian halfpenny date, the 1923 Halfpenny is desirable in any quality – and highly sought after in premium grade.

Due to problems with the dies, the mintage of the 1923 Halfpenny is believed to be just 15,000. With the halfpenny the lowest predecimal denomination, subject to a high circulation rate, it’s no shock most surviving examples are in well-worn condition.

WWII Medal Group – awarded to one of the Rats of Tobruk!

A genuine artefact of Australia’s WWII history, and representing a close link to one of our most famous engagements – the Siege of Tobruk – we are proud to present the original WWII Medal Group of Australian soldier Private Leslie James Clare.

Clare served with the 2/12 Australian Infantry Battalion in North Africa during the Siege of Tobruk in 1941. It is believed he was taken prisoner during the Battle of the Salient in early May, when Italian and German forces under Rommel were thwarted in their ferocious attempts to capture

Tobruk. Clare was interned at Derna (Libya), before being moved to camps in Italy, including the hellish Camp Gruppignamo, before finally imprisoned at Stalag 8-A in Germany. After surviving four years as a POW, Clare was liberated by Allied forces and made it to Britain in May 1945.

Forming a powerful link with this remarkable story, and with Australia’s iconic Rats of Tobruk, Clare’s Medal Group comprises the 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War & Australia Service Medals (both bearing Clare’s name) and Africa Star, plus an Infantry Front Line

The ultimate keepsake of the march to decimalisation, this official RBA set comprises ten Specimen notes – two examples of each of the first $1, $2, $5, $10 & $20. Featuring the First Prefix of its denomination, ‘000000’ serial numbers and a unique Specimen overprint, each of the notes is lightly glued into an official RBA cloth-covered album. A ‘presentation

piece’, the set was bestowed upon dignitaries, banks, public institutions and those involved with the design and production of our first decimal notes.
